I only needed a haircut and this was the only chance I got (I am a SAHM with 2 kids and minimal backup except this day) so I said I would consider it but I need a cut now. It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I could have done it myself.

I've spent a number of years looking for anyone who could cut my hair as well as the person who does it at home, and have a number of horror stories that resulted in me getting my hair fixed by the guy back home. Another hairdresser recommended Allison to me, and I made an appointment before my next trip home (just in case..). She ended up giving me one of the best haircuts I've ever had, even fixing a terrible bang trim I had 2 months earlier that I had believed was still beyond saving. Some things that make Allison/MINT better than the rest: 1. Allison takes time to understand how your hair grows and cuts your hair accordingly. I went in to her salon with a specific haircut in mind, but having sat in Allison's chair, I'd feel equally comfortable going to her with a vague description of what I was going for and just seeing what she came up with. 2. Allison really has fun doing what she does, which makes her better. 3. Allison gets how haircuts grow out - I am still receiving compliments on my cut, weeks later, even though it's the same look I've had for 6 months now. 4. Complimentary bang trims. 5. The atmosphere is modern, laid back, and inviting. Definitely check Mint out if you are looking for your go-to place...I'm happy I've finally found mine in NYC! read more

Allison Burr at Mint Salon is an artist when she's working with my hair! She cuts to style, taking time to make sure the look is right for me. Not only does my hair look great after she's finished cutting it but it grows in beautifully during the weeks in between my appointments with her. I consulted with Allison about a year ago because I was looking for someone to help me transition from years of coloring my hair to the real me. At age 61, I just felt I didn't look like myself anymore and I knew there was a beautiful silver/white natural color to my hair, waiting to come out. Because I wanted to do this "cold turkey" with no more dyes, Allison advised me to let my hair grow out naturally for four months and then come back and see her. I followed her advice and she gave me a wonderful short cut that first time, getting rid of most of the dye. I'm a loyal client now. My hair looks so super that someone even stopped me on the street recently to ask where I got my haircut. It was a real pleasure to recommend Allison at Mint. She's a gem! read more

I love this Salon ! The ladies are awesome ! I desperately needed a new stylist and was having no luck until my friend referred me to Allison. My friend saw one of Allison's customers on the bus and stopped the lady to get the name of her stylist (I love my friends lol). I was a little uncertain at first.. I didn't know if Allison could style my texture hair (African American). My hair texture is wavy, curly and has a mind of it's own. I get a relaxer once a year. The end result; I'm getting compliments left and right. My friends love my hair and my cut is still looking good weeks later. I'm hooked. . The Salon set-up is nice. Allison offers complimentary nape trims. I was floored when I mentioned to Allison that I called on their usual day off and someone answered the phone,,, and found out that's the norm.. The customer is VALUED! Even on their day off... I'm HAPPY! read more

Mark Perez has been my stylist for many years. He is innovative, yet patient and listens to your ideas for new styles, he's a master at cutting hair - but checks in with you along the way. This is important for me as I'm a bit OCD when it comes to my hair cuts. Mark is also such a relaxed and easy going guy - and worth mentioning, hilariously funny. I've been recommending him to both women and men friends over the years, and everyone has stuck with him and loves him! I was skeptical when he told me his new salon location, but it is well worth the trek to the little oasis in the garment district. The loft like space with sleek decor, and corner windows with open views give the salon a peaceful & airy feel. The staff there are all friendly and hospitable and make you feel very well taken care of. I look forward to each visit! read more

This is the best salon I've ever been to. Having just moved here from California I was so nervous to have to go to a new place to get my hair done. I went searching online and found that this place had amazing reviews and now I see why. It was so relaxing and tranquil inside. It makes you feel like you are in an entirely different city. The staff there are so kind too. My hair needed some serious help. It was severely dry and damaged from the climate change and I am pleased to say that thanks to Mark who did my cut Charlene who did my conditioning treatment and highlights and Brittney who did my shampooing. I have been to almost every high-end salon in the city but for the last ten years I only let Mark Perez, the senior stylist at Mint, cut and style my hair. I have coarse Asian hair with a little natural wave to it and he always knows how to work with the texture of my hair and make me look my best. I always get compliments on my straight, shiny hair and little do they know Mark is my secret weapon. Regardless of being one of Mark's long standing clients, he always sits me down for a consultation before he cuts and styles to get a sense of any changes in my career, lifestyle or aspirations. He makes recommendations based on our chat and it makes me feel special and cared for. Mark has such a great eye for what cut will flatter a person's face the most and I consider him to be one of NYC's best. read more

The best thing about her is that she is honest with recommendations and truly cares about your hair. Overall, they use top of the line products and my hair always has a finished / polished look. I have been going to Mark Perez for over 6 years and was his client at his former salon. My only hesitation in writing this review is for selfish reasons- and that is that more people will find out about him and there will be less openings for me! I travel down from Boston four times a year to have Mark cut my hair. He is amazing!! He is intuitive, listens and I always leave feeling great about my hair style. I once tried someone in Boston as I was in a fix and the cut I got was nothing like Mark's cut. In fact, I called Mark three days later, confessed to him, went down to NYC and he fixed it. I typically grow out my hair and then donate it so I have done this several times in my life but…read moresince I have moved so much (Seattle to Hawaii to SF to NY) I have tried several places and this was one of the best hair donation experiences. First I love that they created their own non-profit when Pantene Beautiful Lengths was not accepting anymore hair donations. The wigs are created locally as well. I really respect that the salon has gone out of its way to provide this service. If you plan on donating, you will need to send an email with photos of your current length and a photo of what kind of haircut you are looking to get. They will not be able to use the ends of your hair so you will need to cut off about 10 inches in order to donate. Danielle did an amazing job. She took the time to put my hair into about 8 little ponytails (I have thicker hair) and I have never experienced that before. The shampoo and scalp massage was incredible and felt I was put into a dream state. I love the cut she did; it is fun and the length was perfect for me. I let her know that I usually just grow it all out and then chop it off to donate so she took the time to make sure the cut would grow out nicely. The hair donation price is $75 plus tax. I had an amazing experience and would recommend this place for anyone looking to donate their hair!

That individual have no idea what is professional customer service! Yelling at the customers is not part of it ! I am suggesting to Mark ,owner of this salon pay close attention how his staff communicate with his clients!! To learn the prices of hairstylists who are working in this salon not such a bad idea before giving wrong information to the client or raising prices in 5 min ! With dramatic comments " nothing written in blood" . That's just stupid and UNPROFESSIONAL!
