This low key salon does a great men's haircut for a reasonable price. I have curly hair and they did an amazing job. It might be a small interior but they do amazing work. HORRIBLE service by Colorist Diana. She dropped an entire plastic applicator of dye on me that has left a large scar on my forehead (2.5 inches long halfway down my forehead) She didn't apologize, moved to a brush method and hurriedly tried to put in Vaseline after with a Q tip! She then proceeded to remove the dye in less time than other salons and there were white hairs left everywhere and an uneven color. Lousy experience. Another colorist said she burned my scalp. Do yourself a favor and AVOID at all costs. read more

I have to give this salon a huge shoutout. I called at 6:45pm desperate because my nail broke and I couldn't wash my hair without it getting worse and they took me in right away! Was in the city for my brothers elopement. My new sister and I needed last minute here and make up and Denise did not disappoint! She was so kind and talented. It was a great way to spend a couple of hours before the big event. Neither my sister-in-law or I are good with make up and we didn't want to feel overdone. Denise gave us a beautiful and simple look as well as gorgeous here! She was welcoming and very generous, even offering for us to come back later in the day for touchups as needed for photos. WHY OH WHY did it take me so long to find this place?! Denise is truly incredible. You won't know what formula she's using, or what sorcery she's performing to make sure your hair comes out perfectly each and every time, but I suppose a true artist never reveals her secrets. Denise at Salon Amici is the best! I got over being sick with just enough time to make it to a wedding, but my hair was a mess. She fit me in last minute and gave me an amazing blow out that brought my hair back to life AND lasted for the entire wedding weekend. I also can't recommend her haircuts enough. I came to her with uneven ends and hair that had been thinned by my last hairdresser. She fixed it all and gave me long layers with great movement that grew in perfectly. Denise proceeded to cut my hair without having properly discussed the haircut. She seemed to be only concerned with the desired length, disregarding the shape and my other preferences. Several times I had to ask her what she was doing. Some of the reviews mention that she is an expert in cutting wavy/curly hair, but she doesn't know the first thing about it. She made me look like a poodle. I don't think I've ever had such a poor haircut. read more

Denise (owner/operator) is the absolute best. I've been going to salon amici for almost 10 years; even though I moved away long ago I find excuses to be in the neighborhood whenever I need a cut. Worst haircut I've had in 20 years. I asked for brown hair, I ended up with red. I asked for barely a trim and so much was cut off. I have a helmet haircut. It's terrible. It's anxiety inducing - it's that bad. The owner/receptionist seemed very nice but that's all I can say that is positive. Will never return. read more

Some people who are not new yorkers will be intimidated by how opinionated Denise is, but I'm telling you now...SHE KNOWS HER STUFF. She did my hair for my wedding (my picture is on here) and I was doubting it the whole time...until I walked down the aisle. EVERYONE said it was perfection and looking back, it was. All of the staff at Salon Amici was wonderfully kind and friendly from the day we met ! We are new to the neighborhood and needed a local salon to have my daughter's hair done with a crown for her Sweet 16 dinner. Denise was so friendly and took fantastic care of my daughter on her special day! She did her hair half pulled back with my daughters crown on her head and half down will long loose curls...it looked great and made my daughter feel like a beautiful princess for her special day! The most talented hair designer I have ever come across. I am very particular and do my best to wait for my east coast trips too see Denise. Her cut is the best I have ever had, style is amazing, I always feel gorgeous when I leave her salon. She is also expert at color and hi-lites. She is all New York and I love her personality, she has a heart of gold. I am also fond of her sister that handles the reception and appointing. I happened by her salon looking for another one four years ago and wow did I get lucky. I feel like it is now my neighborhood, I stay Mid town East to see her as much as possible. Her salon is small, but very clean and she prides herself in making it comfortable. I would highy recommend her, close to the W, Benjamin, well I would stay anywhere and NY and make it back to see her! This coming from a Santa Barbara, CA resident, so she must be good!!! She should charge more, but; tip her heavily, she is worth it and then some!!! read more

Was staying down the street at The Kimberly and happened to pop in Salon Amici on my way back to the hotel from a pub on 2nd ave. At the time my hair was so long and wild I looked like the wild man from Borneo! Denise was very direct in her recommendation and I told her to just let her rip and go for it. She is very confident and rightfully so as she does know what she's doing. The people in there are nice and friendly. She did a great job and my wife approved.I would return but alas I live on the left coast! read more

I was in town for work and desperate to get my haircut and colored. My friend did some searching and found Amici. More importantly she found Denise! She did an amazing job on my hair and we connected instantly! Like we had known each other for years. She is spiritual, kind and pulls no punches. As real and as New Yorker as they get which in this lifetime full of phony, fake and overly PC people it was a breath of fresh air. After my dinner in turtle bay, I decided to get a haircut, and went on here to see which salon is good, came across this hidden gem. Denise is absolutely one of the best hair stylist I've ever encountered. She was busy doing another girl's hair, but she asked me to leave a number, and she could contact me later when she's done. I came here because there are only 2 chairs and I thought that would be safest during Covid. Lucky for me, I got the best haircut ever! I trusted Denise so much, I came back to have my hair colored the next week - and that was great, too! I don't normally like being in a salon and making small talk but Denise felt like an old friend and I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with her as she worked her magic on my pandemic hair. In general, I 5 star this salon because they just always do - I'm now a 3 year client - such perfect work, and because when something doesn't feel, flip around quite right they're extremely easy to discuss with and make any changes or decide not to. I went to Misa for length of her time in USA and when she moved (I got last appt she had Christmas Eve, her cuts were that perfect for my long hair, long and shorter face framing layers cut) I am so happy that Takumi maintained the cut Misa had worked-cut my hair into over 2 years and he made slight adjustment so it's another version of the same perfect. To my delight, Bessy was available during my lunch break. She listened, offered appropriate suggestions and gave me a great cut in about 30 min flat. I appreciated her efficiency and pure skill, as well as her friendly attitude. I did also spend a lot of time reading reviews for each employee here and it sounds like you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who wasn't fantastic. Layla even washed my hair and that was really relaxing. I will return on my next trip.
