I absolutely loved my time with all the ladies at this salon. I walked in, asked Deborah, the owner, if she was feeling creative... Her response? "Oh sweetheart, that's everyday!" I left everything in her hands, and hoped for the best, and I'm SO glad I did. The woman didn't quit until she was completely satisfied with my look, and it turned out so incredibly beautiful that I brought my husband down a few days later to see what she'd do with his mangy mane.... Same fantastic results! This salon was clean, the stylists were adorable, chatty, and sweet, and their prices were affordable, even for the amazing work they're doing. Please give them a try.... I went to Salon Amici while wedding dress shopping in NYC. Denise did an excellent job making look and feel like a bride! My updo and makeup got a lot of compliments all day.. even from complete strangers. Not only was my hair and makeup fabulous, I had so much fun hanging out with the owner and Denise. I went to this salon to get my hair and make-up done before my wedding because I saw all the great reviews on yelp and the price was reasonable. A woman, I think the owner, started working on my hair and after a few minutes, I asked what she was doing. She explained briefly, then asked what I wanted, I showed her a few pictures illustrating the style I wanted which was completely different than what she was doing, so she started again from the beginning arguing that what I wanted is not going to work. Then she asked again what I wanted. After going back and forth a few times I just told her to do whatever she wanted and she made a simple bun like she was doing at the beginning. I did not like this style particularly but it looked nice. She added small flowers in the bun which were a nice touch. Then she started doing my bridesmaids hair even though I asked that she does my make-up first as we were running out of time and I still had things to do before the wedding. she took care of my make-up last at the time when we were supposed to leave for the wedding. I told her that I like light colors, light blue for my eyes. She put a lot of dark grey above and below my eyes and some strong colored red lipstick. It is not my style at all as I tend to be very natural looking and I like soft colors. I kept saying I don't like it a all, it is too dark, and she kept arguing that it looks great, I look like a ballerina, and she asked my bridesmaids to confirm. By that time I was starting to feel very distressed and upset as we were late for the wedding, and I did not like at all how the make-up, then she turned towards her employee and told her, while being two feet away from me, that I have anger management issues. So I started crying, and we had to leave with the make-up mostly unchanged (she removed a little bit of dark below my eyes) as we were late. We had to run to the church and all our guests had to wait for us for 30 minutes. I did not have time to do anything about the make-up before the ceremony. Coming back home in the evening, I looked at myself in the mirror, and I felt sad looking in the mirror at the make-up I still did not like and that will now appear on all my wedding pictures for which we hired a wedding photographer. My husband agrees that the make-up was too dark looking especially in the church but my friends said that, even though not my style, it was well done. So overall I would say that this hairdresser knows what she is doing but I would not go there anymore and would not recommend it as I did not feel heard or my opinion taken into account. read more

I live right across the street from here and stopped in once to have my hair done and have never gone anywhere since. My mom lives in Dallas and had Denise do her Keratin treatment once and said it was better than anyone in Dallas so she now flies in every 6 months to have her do it. I volunteer at the local animal shelter and everyone at the salon always donates treats and money for me to take with me! Also, I can bring my 3lb dog with me when I get my hair done. read more

Okay, so I HAD to write about this fantastic SALON...because it is my all time FAVE! I have been to many places all over NYC and the people here and the service is by far the best I have ever had.The interior is very cozy and up to date.And It is so hard to find a salon where stylists actually listen to you and ask you questions and then actually give you a perfect end result, and I am ridiculously happy that I found it because my hair is very important to me. Not only is Denise a perfectionist but I made the mistake of dying my hair BLACK, mind you I am pretty fair skinned so I had to pull the color out. Looking for a Salon, I was quite nervous because I knew my hair would have to undergo serious stress and I wanted someone who really knew what they were doing. Long story short,Denise knew exactly what to do and in one visit my hair looked beautiful and matched my skin perfectly. Normally it takes a few visits but I was amazed with how it came out in one visit AND MY HAIR IS HEALTHY! I would recommend Denise and Alisha to anyone, they really are talented, friendly people and they know about all the hot new looks. It is really easy to schedule an appointment too, being that Cathy the receptionist is extremely nice and will find the perfect date/timeto fit your schedule. I just returned from my first hair cut with Denise after getting my gorgeous highlights last week. It's rare to find some one who is equally proficient with color and cuts but Denise is absolutely flawless at both, PLUS she does a brilliant blowout! I went in for a blow out. My stylist asked me what "kind" of blow out I wanted...which was confusing to me. When I told her I wanted a traditional blow out (straight, with volume, a little flip at the end), she responded "I'll see what I can do". I did not get a blow out. What I got was: an aggressive and uncomfortable hair wash, had to stand up and put my head upside down while my hair was blow dried (I've never had to do that at a salon), unsolicited (and rude) hair advice, curling iron AND hair curlers (since when is that part of a blow out?), my hair was teased (even more confusing), and I was told repeatedly to part my hair in a way that I never part my hair because otherwise it wouldn't look "sexy". Nothing about this experience was relaxing. I should have voiced these concerns earlier on but did not feel comfortable doing so as the tone of the stylist was not very welcoming. On top of all of this, I arrived home and 30 minutes later, whatever styling that was done to my hair, was gone. I had to redo my hair which was terribly inconvenient considering I was going out to dinner for my birthday right after. On top of all of this, the hair curlers that were used in my hair were dirty (had someone else's hair in them), as did the brush that was used in my hair. Why did I come here in the first place? Well, I was trying to find a local spot (rather than going to some big name place) and this was just blocks from my apartment. This place is no less expensive than dry bar or any other salon (it was $42 and that was with a "discount") and yes I even tipped 20% out of principle. read more

BEST Blowout... and then some! I never write reviews, but I'm compelled to because I love this place so much. I started going there for blowouts because I work around the corner - it's a small salon with only 2 chairs - but the stylists are amazing! I am very picky as I work in the fashion/magazine industry and there are SO many places to choose from these days. Alicia and Dee seriously give the best blowout ever, and it lasts for DAYS. (No joke - 4 days later and I still look like great!) They completely listen to you, and they really know what they are doing - they make you look amazing and SO natural. I only wish that I had used them for my wedding day. I've been so impressed by them that I recently had Dee cut my hair and it came out AMAZING - and SO affordable - can't remember the last time I got SUCH a GREAT haircut (or ANY haircut) for under $100. I've been going to Denise for years now, and without fail, she gives me a great haircut every time. Yes, there have been times that I go in and she says that what I want won't work, but she also explains why. Without question, she gives me an amazing hair cut every single time and I walk out of the salon feeling like a brand new woman. She tells me what products to use, what she is using on my hair, how often I should use it, and what I need to do to maintain it. I can't think of a time when I've walked out of her salon without someone complimenting me on my hair. The prices are fantastic, Denise is a great woman, and knows her stuff. WORST SALON EVER!!!!!!!!!!! I went here to get a haircut which messed up my hair. I asked the owner for a trim, instructing her not to cut off more than an inch. She went on not only to cut off four inches and make my hair into a triangle shape, but then yelled at me for complaining about what she had done. She was most unapologetic and unconcerned that I did not like what she had done, and instructed me not to. Would never, ever go back and strongly advise that you do not unless you want to look like a scarecrow! read more

I went here today hoping to reverse a bad dye job; I had tried to go from brownish auburn to dark blonde using a box of dye last week, I should have used bleach. Unfortunately placing color on top of color just does not work without bleach. My hair looked like straw; it was awful. I went for a consultation to see what they could do. I had brought in a picture of a celebrity with copper brown hair and another picture of a celeb with strawberry blonde hair; I had wanted to get one of those colors done. Denise had told me that she wouldn't be able to strip my hair to put color back in. However, she said she could make the dye job less dark, make it healthy and add a few highlights, but not a partial highlight job. I was a bit sad I couldn't get the colors done that I wanted, but Denise told me that if I hadn't dyed my hair so recently, she could have possibly stripped the hair and go with one of my choices. Her opinions were a bit intimidating to me at first, but she knew what she was talking about and really does know her stuff. I decided to go with having a few highlights done. When I saw the end result, I was quite impressed, she was able to punch up the dark blonde I tried to do and the subtle blonde highlights looks fabulous! Next time I go back I will either get strawberry blonde hair, copper brown or go for partial highlights. The receptionist was very nice too, and the prices weren't bad either compared to most salons in NYC. It is hard to find an affordable salon that does such excellent work. read more

I randomly walked into Denise's salon back in 2008 when I needed a last-minute haircut and have been a client ever since. I never thought I would have an allegiance to a hair stylist like I have now, but Denise is easily the best I have ever worked with. I don't think I'm the only one who feels this way. You'll quickly see that her clientele is made up of long-time regulars who go out of their way to go to her place. Denise is a straightforward, no-nonsense professional (and a great person as well). One piece of advice -- tell her what you are looking for and what you are trying to do, but trust her judgment! What looks good on one person doesn't always look good on someone else, and you can trust Denise to really tailor her work to you. Let me start by saying the same person had cut my hair for 13 years, and he finally retired. It was a bit nerve racking to get my haircut by someone new. Salon Amici was right in the neighborhood, I went in one day an met Denise. I told her my story and she told me we would "take it slow" and that she would keep checking if I liked it.
