Janelle is so talented. I found her before I moved from LA and so glad I did. She's been working with me to color correct some damaging work I've had done in the past. She cares enough about her clients to tell them no on more bleach- thank goodness because my hair really couldn't take it. She made me a brunette which I never thought I would like and then suggested extensions. My hair is transformed! Cannot recommend her work enough! Definitely go to her for color or extensions!! And let her work her magic on you.
Never been anywhere as amazing as Hair Throne! It's everything a hair salon should be! I've seen a couple stylists here but struck gold with Mykel! I've never waked out unsatisfied or disappointed with my hair. Mykel always makes sure my hair is in its best shape and color. Never loved being blonde more than I do now.
$1008.00 not including tip. What could I have possibly done to my hair for it to cost this much? Balayage (on virgin hair) and a hair cut that didn't take more than 5 minutes. So let's start from the beginning. Making the appointment I was told I had to pay $325 (50%) of the service upfront. Day of the appointment I'm sitting in the lobby with no one in the reception area for about 20 minutes until a nice blonde girl walks in and asks if I've been helped. I tell her I have an appointment with Sakura. She lets them know and Sakura's assistant comes to get me (such a sweet girl throughout this whole process.) I meet Sakura and this is exactly when things started to go down south. Since this was my first time dying my hair I showed her inspo photos and explained to her I was very anxious since it was my first time. Her response was "if you're going to be anxious then I don't want to do your hair, it's supposed to be fun and I want to have fun.. not have you making me anxious" she then proceeded to say "if you have a bad reaction and your hair falls out or if you don't like it.. then we cut it all off.. it's not a big deal." Well, it is a big deal considering I take such good care of my hair and it has taken me years to get it to such great length. Her attitude, her eye rolls, and entire demeanor should have been the red flag waving at me to run out of that place. Also, I promise you, I was being so kind and vulnerable with her that her reaction made my eyes tear up. Sakura specified to me she likes to cut hair while it's dry. Yet, she started dying my hair first and telling me it probably be a little bit more expensive because of the length of my hair and her having to use more product. If that was the case, wouldn't the right thing to do is cut my hair first so that you use less formula when dying it? I don't have a lot of hair, I just have very long hair. But it was her way and she kept applying the dye. In yhe middle of all of this I used her fan that had a panda on it and mentioned how much I love pandas, and she tells me.. "ok you don't need to be so exaggerative about the panda" Then her and her assistant were talking to me about a song, Sakura said she forgot the lyrics.. so I played it on my phone and after 30 seconds she yells at me to turn it off. Everyone stays quiet and I'm literally so uncomfortable at this point, I don't say another word. While her assistant begins to wash my hair, the other hairdresser (blonde girl) starts talking about music and was so kind and welcoming, I started to wish she was my hairdresser instead. I feel like that's the type of relationship you should have with your hairstylist. Now it's time to cut my hair. Naturally I was nervous to cut it after so long, but I was smiling when I told Sakura "oh god here we go".. the minute I said that, she stepped back and with an angry/irritated/sarcastic tone and red face she replied " I don't have to cut your hair..you have an issue? You're too scared? I don't have to cut it." At this point she was really testing my patience. She ended up cutting my hair, but not in the way I asked her, though I was so tired of her entitled attitude towards me that I didn't say a word. She then took out the curler and started waving my hair for her tik tok account and even asked me to fix my makeup for her page. She took pictures, videos, made me pose in different positions. Then the bill: $683 on top of the $325 I had already paid. She charged for extra product which she wouldn't have used if she cut my hair first. $125 for a 5 minute hair trim. She charged me for the blow dry which I never asked for and for curling my hair that she did for her own tik tok/ instagram page. Did my hair come out nice? YES, but was it worth that price and the awful treatment I endured during the entire 6 hours that I was there? ABSOLUTELY NOT. After calling all of my friends who own salons in different states and telling them that I was charged over a thousand dollars for my hair, and realizing I was completely taken advantage of, I cried for hours. On top of it, she treated me like absolute shit.. didn't even offer me a damn cup of water. It was my first and worst experience. If you're going to come here, and you're nervous about making the change and you want a kind an empathetic hairstylist that you can enjoy the experience with.. please choose anyone but Sakura.
Very happy with my haircut and lightening session with Sakura! Her assistant Stephanie is wonderful too! Sakura works her magic on dark hair, showed her a photo and requested ash brown balayage with no orange (happens often with my dark hair) and was able to make it happen! She did set expectations for certain tones I was thinking of getting so I really appreciated that. I like the attention and personalized approach I received and that we were able to finish in 5 hours. Salon was clean and it wasn't too packed with decent spacing between others.
As much as I would love to gatekeep - this is the best salon in NYC. I've been coming here since 2019 before I moved to the city and have been consistently seeing Lizzy for my cut since I decided to try bangs in 2020. I don't even have to tell her what I want anymore - she understands my dream hair and I leave the chair with it every time. Now I can't even imagine myself without bangs and the style she graces me with and run to book an apt the second I see them growing out. She makes me feel so sexy and confident and I've never gotten more compliments by (guys & gals) on my hair. I even like to think of her as my first friend/comfort person in the city since I moved here in 2020 - whenever I'm in the area I always have to stop by for a Lizzy hug. Also started seeing Mykel for my blonde this year and the same goes... I'm obsessed with my color every time. She helped me get to the bright blonde I've always wanted but also keeps it so healthy and educates me on how to care for it. I no longer have a root - it grows out seamlessly without a line so I can go months without getting it lightened again. She's the sweetest and I'm so happy I finally found someone I can stick with and trust that I will always leave with my hair looking perfect! Bianca (the owner) is also the sweetest and so accommodating! Its been exciting to see Hair Salon grow and flourish and I couldn't recommend it more!!
Just got my hair done at Hair Throne for the first time and I love it!!! This location is so convenient for me and I'll definitely be coming back. I got a haircut and partial balayage. Got there at 2:30pm and was done a little after 6pm. Haircut is $120 and the partial was $250. Each stylist has their own rates. This rate is for Bianca! She's absolutely amazing and took care of me. She's also super friendly and has an amazing go-getter attitude. Hair throne just opened a month ago and she's killing it. The vibe is very happy - she's got an upbeat pandora playlist playing the whole time. Everyone was super nice!! See photos for how my hair turned out!
Sakura helped color correct and fully change my hair on New Years Eve. My hair was so stubborn but she worked so hard to get it to a more natural color with more dimension to it. I had gone to another salon 6 months ago during covid shutdown when some shops just reopened as I was itching to change up my hair but they ruined it :( I will always stick with Hair Throne's team from now on. Followed them from when they were Bianchi salon and everyone is so talented. i chose Sakura because her work aligned with my vision for more natural brunette coloring and she certainly delivered! She is so nice too and very detail oriented. Would highly recommend going to Sakura. The salon is also very big and socially distant, they took temperatures and sanitized. I felt very comfortable! Ok, so real talk. As a native New Yorker I never had a "salon." I'd jump to the next one after the next after a friend gave a good rec or they had a good deal. IG told me about hair Throne where I signed up for the membership and I instantly fell in love. After becoming a regular I began to follow, Bianca, the owner after eyeing her work for some time. I finally pulled the trigger to have her perform some color magic on my hair and she nailed it. I wanted to draw attention to something major that really sets hair Throne apart from the rest. You know when you get your hair done you walk out of the salon feeling like a million bucks...until you wash it and have to do it yourself! Fast forward. I'm a YEAR later from my color and I STILL get compliments all the time. I've sadly moved out of nyc, otherwise I'd be coming in ever week for a blow out/touch up -- but I can't begin to express my love for their talent + hospitality. Run, DONT walk!
I know the struggle of finding a good color specialist in NYC with such a saturated market- but I have been going to Mykel for about 5 years now and the thought of letting someone else color my hair has never even crossed my mind. She really takes the time to listen and understand what you want and look at photos together to make sure she can capture the look. She stays on top of her color/cut education and I literally get stopped on the street by strangers asking where I get my color done all the time. Mykel is honestly the BEST color specialist for blondes/balayage/hair painted looks that you will find. I can not recommend her enough! I always make plans after my visit with her :)
Let me start off by saying you can't ever go wrong booking with Marissa! I've had my hair colored by her twice now and her work is simply breathtaking! My natural hair color is dark, dark-brown, very close to black, so I am pleasantly surprised and grateful that Marissa has helped me achieve this color while still have long, healthy hair with no breakage or hair loss. Hair plays a big role in complimenting your physical appearance and I am glad to know that I can wholeheartedly trust Marissa. No joke, I can close my eyes the whole entire time she is working on my hair and open them to discover an amazing job done. She has an amazing eye for detail, genuinely listens to and addresses every single one of your concerns, pays attention to your needs, and overall has a warm, effervescent personality. You'll never feel awkward or uncomfortable sitting at her chair and station, I'm already looking forward to my next visit with her. I also felt safe visiting Hairthrone during the pandemic as the salon is neat, clean and roomy enough for you to be seated far from other clients. They have hand sanitizer available and your temperature is checked upon entering. I really like that the salon carries the Tazo Orange Herbal Tea I drink, it's complimentary which is awesome when you have an appointment that will take awhile. I love that Marissa genuinely cares about your overall hair health and the longevity of your color. She has helped me in discovering new brands and products without being pushy or making me feel like I was pressured into buying a product sold at the salon. She is also very responsive if you reach out and contact her personally which I am appreciative of. I've been to many other salons across NYC and I can honestly say when it comes to investing in your hair color, HairThrone & Marissa is worth every penny. Marissa is a hot commodity though and loved by clients, so she is often booked & busy! Make sure you make an appointment online in advance so that she can work magic on your hair as well.
I have been coming to Janelle at Hair Throne since I moved to NYC over the summer and I am obsessed! Not only does she do a great job with my hair every time, but she is so fun to chat with. Best vibes all around. The whole salon is a super enjoyable experience.
I've been going to Bianca, the owner of Hair Throne, for about 6 years. She is incredible! So passionate, knowledgeable and skilled when it comes to all things hair. Yesterday I got my hair cut and a full head lightening with her. It had been six months since I'd had a trim and toner, but Bianca is so great at what she does even my quarantine hair was still pretty beautiful. It grew out incredibly well. But so glad to have freshly done hair again! (Before and after pictures included) I spend the entire time I'm at this salon admiring every head of hair that walks out. You won't leave with anything less than gorgeous hair no matter your stylist. I'd recommend Bianca and Hair Throne to anyone!
This is my third time at Hair Throne, and my third great experience! The previous two times, I saw Amanda (who is extremely talented), but today my appointment was with Anthony, and I am thrilled with the results of my balayage. The staff here is extremely nice and professional, and take their time consulting with you before beginning the service. I recommend that you don't make plans for immediately after your appointment and expect for it to run over the allotted time (mine ran more than an hour over today), but the time commitment is absolutely worth the end result. I went to Hair Throne to see Bianca who is the owner. I showed her a picture picture of her own work and said "i want this". Couldn't be any more simple. It was her own work. When my hair was done it was a very bad foil highlight job. It looked orange and the highlights looked like fake hair extension because the blending was sooooo bad. I came back in 2 days and Bianca said "ok I'll put you back to same color as you had when you came in" ..So I spent $282 to look the same??? She was not apologetic for her horrific dye job and didn't even let me use her blow drier to blow out my own hair. "No one can use my tools she said". I left the salon in nyc winter with wet hair ! She told me that she didn't understand why I was upset because she did what I asked (I didn't ask to sit in a salon for 5 hours to have my blonde highlights look orange and come back to put it to same color as I had before I came in, bacK to square one ?) Worst of all she didn't offer anything but kicked me out when i was upset and asked me to leave !! I didn't not yell or curse and was genuinely upset how I was treated as a customer. read more

Sarah Louise is so so gifted at what she does. Not only does she make your vision come to light but she does it better than you can imagine!! From taking me dark, back to light, cutting, adding layers, and styling she truly is the full Package In hairstylist form. Apart from her talent, she truly listens to your wants/needs, is so personable, professional, funny, and kind. Truly feels like the full salon experience. Here with an extremely conflicted review-- I'm happy with how my hair looks, but I have to say that the service unexpectedly lacking in a way I've never experienced before when paying upwards of $360 for a hair appointment. I live in Boston and booked a foilayage with Bianca almost 3 months in advance. I'm obsessive about hair and after spending hours pouring over various salons in New York and deciding I wanted to make the trip, I was so excited to get my hair done at Hair Throne. Bianca was 10 minutes late, which was totally fine because the front desk let me know. Not sure if it was just a difficult early morning, but right from the beginning we had a really brisk introduction and zoomed through the consultation in less than 2 minutes. After doing the initial application, Bianca took another client and from that point didn't touch my hair again. Her assistant took over (who still did a good job), occasionally getting instructions from 10 feet away. Bianca did touch base at the end to check that I liked my hair-- I really do! The only thing I'm disappointed with hair wise is that I got a ton of breakage at the top of my head from having my hair roughly brushed through several times while wet after being bleached. read more

I absolutely love hair throne salon! I've been a client for years now and wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair. Mykel is a dream colorist & has worked to allow me live out my blonde dreams & Janelle is a whiz with extensions, giving me celebrity level length! The stylists here are professional & FUN making 4-5 hour appointments pass by quickly. I always feel refreshed and confident after my hair appointments. Highly recommend 10/10. read more

I got my hair done few weeks ago and I am in love on it ! Marissa did I great job!!!! My hair had really bad damage orange brassy texture because of previous bad bleaching as a result I was traumatized and anxious to go to any hair salons again. Marissa gave me confidence and security step by step we fixed my hair !! I am so obsessed with my hair now !! I definitely found my hair stylist . I truly recommend to you hairthrone !! Sonia is AMAZING. I waited way too long to write this! I ended up moving to California and I'm not going to lie, I wish I could fly back this weekend to get a touch up with her! I recommend this place whole heartedly. Nothing but professionalism and excellence. Unlike the below review from "Soo P" Janelle was one of the most competent stylists I've ever seen. She helped me in a pinch just days before my wedding. I put my trust in her and she delivered. During my time there I saw about 4 other customers leave happy with seamlessly blended color. Don't see Bianca, she went completely against my inspo and left my hair with yellow streaks, not the rich brunette balayage I wanted. I left dissatisfied but still tipped graciously and called the next day upset(as I had expressed the night before) about the results to see if we could schedule a touch-up/change. Bianca refused to fix my hair or see me again. $600 dollars down the drain and only to have mismatched bangs, yellow highlights, and a dull brown base. I don't think you can even call this a balayage I've gotten better highlights at a mall. read more

I have been searching and searching for someone who specializes lightening dark hair, as I've had nightmare experiences before! Finally found Sakura Ito and feel soooo happy with my hair! My hair was so grown out and brassy, and was able to lighten it and give it an ashy brown look. COVID wise, the salon takes great precaution. You call the salon/your stylist when you arrive and they meet you at the door. Felt very safe. Will definitely coming back to Sakura for any touch ups. Anthony is amazing!! Went in for a cut and toner and he gave exactly what I wanted. Told him I needed to get rid of how heavy my hair was and to darken it so that my blonde to dark wasn't such a drastic difference. Still left the length on my hair, gave it shape and a beautiful ashy brown read more

I visited Hair Throne for the first time (wanted to support black owned business) and booked an appointment with Sakura who is an absolute gem! Sakura transformed my hair and left me feeling ah-mazing. I am writing this review 6 months later and I'm still in love with my hair. I initially scheduled a full balayage and trusted her vision so much that I ended up getting a haircut and a root touchup all at once. Sakura's warm and spunky energy made the hours fly by and all worth it. I'm looking forward to our next appointment soon with her - she's a keeper! I am speechless!!! It has been years since I've had my hair lightened and I almost forgot how great it feels to have brightness on my head considering how dark my natural color is. I worked with the stylist Marissa and I CAN ONLY SAY 10/100000. She is amazingly talented, great customer service, attentive, cares about what you want to achieve and aiming to her creative perfection. I gave her a little direction and delivered beyond measure and my hair feels amazing!!! Aside from how beautiful, kind, personable soul the salon is beautiful, chic, modern, playful, clean, great music and staff is very friendly. I've never loved my hair color so much - Mykel KILLED IT. She was so professional, communicative, and PRECISE. I've been to so many salons all over NYC for balayage, but I've never had such an overall positive experience with such a great outcome. It's clear that she really knows what she is doing and is very talented. Something I have to call out after testing out so many different salons in NYC - Hair Throne's diversity and inclusivity. Being Latina, it can more often times than not be really intimidating and difficult to find a salon / stylist that makes you feel comfortable sitting in their chair (I've legit been turned away from a very notable salon in nyc for not having confidence in working with my hair type, which is soooo ridiculous). From my 2 experiences so far at Hair Throne (first was a tone with Mallorie, who was also amazing) there wasn't a second that I ever felt like I could potentially walk away unhappy with the result. Also - love how the stylists consult with each other and bounce off ideas / collaborate. Personally, hearing the stylist think out loud and explain their process makes me way more comfortable. Definitely will be going back! read more

I went back to see Sonia, this time at Hair Throne! The space is beautiful! Sometimes salons can feel stuffy, here it's open, airy and full of light! You can tell everybody loves working there. Sonia has done Magic with my hair! I've always wanted to go blonde and Sonia has been slowly getting me there. She has taught me how to properly care for my hair and how i just need to be patient and we will do it in steps in order to make sure my hair stays healthy! She did her thang once again, and my hair is absolutely glowing and doesn't look fried at all! I can't wait to come back again in a few months! read more
