10/10 experience. Victoria did my color and Vanessa did my cut and style. My hair feels SO healthy, the best I've ever experienced with a stylist. The color is everything I could ask for, Victoria is the girl to go to if you're ready for your dream hair. I've gotten so much attention/so many questions about my hair since getting my hair done. They served coffee, tea, Diet Pepsi, and wine as you can see in the picture. The experience was super professional/friendly/fun. Loved chit chatting with both of these girls. I love love love this place. I've been coming here for a decade and every time its an amazing experience, great service, incredible hair cuts and color. In the past decade everything has changed in my life but this salon has been a mainstay and I'm not leaving ever. The stylists and colorists work magic, my hair looks so spectacular, every time i come i leave feeling completely reinvigorated and fabulous and need to go out on the town to celebrate life. They're also amazingly nice people and the relationships I've built over the years are closer to friendships than just client service. Jen the colorist is a magician, i don't know how she does it but i only do my color twice a year and my greys are covered and it looks amazing growing out. I'm really disappointed with the experience I've been having at this salon recently. I've been a loyal client for the past 2.5 years, regularly visiting every 3-4 weeks for a single-process hair color. The entire service typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours and includes: * Root touch-up (20 minutes) * Color processing (40 minutes) * Hair wash (10 minutes) * Gloss application (20 minutes) * Second wash and conditioning (15 minutes) * Air dry (15 minutes) I always book my appointments with stylist Mimi, who charges $142 (plus tax) for a single-process color. Naturally, when I pay that amount for a specific stylist, I expect her to carry out the entire service. However, Mimi only applies the color and then hands me off to a trainee--often a very young, inexperienced assistant. Meanwhile, she moves on to other clients within 45 mins. I initially stayed quiet out of politeness, but over time it became clear that the quality of service from the trainees was lacking. It made me question why I was paying a senior stylist rate if most of the work was being done by someone without experience. Eventually, I voiced my concerns to the front desk, asking that my stylist perform the entire service going forward. They apologized and assured me that a note had been made. For the next two appointments, Mimi did complete the process from start to finish, and I appreciated that. However, during my third visit, she once again colored my hair and then left me with a trainee after 45 minutes to tend to another client. I refused to continue under those conditions. If the full service is known to take up to two hours, why would another client be booked during my scheduled time? When I told front desk about it they requested Mimi to complete the process, after washing my hair she had the audacity to say "I have another client so I won't be able to air dry your hair. If you want you can do it yourself." And this is not just my stylist doing it. All other stylists are doing the same thing as my sister who's been visiting the salon for a really long time faces the same issue with other stylists. It's not acceptable to charge clients a premium price for a senior stylist while handing off most of the work to trainees--especially without asking for consent. I'm not opposed to salons training new talent, but clients should be asked first and given the option to decline. Simply informing me that "she'll finish the rest" is not respectful of my time or money. read more

I've been going to Sam Brocato for a few years now and have been seeing the same hair colorist Ashley Moore! Only great things to say, I could write an entire essay on it but here are a few 1) The salon itself is always clean and everyone is so friendly and kind. I don't feel intimidated or like I'm not cool enough to be there (which can DEFINITELY happen at certain downtown hair salons, and something I've experienced before coming here!) 2) Ashley is so talented and great at what she does. I feel so much better whenever I leave her chair because I know my hair looks good and it's also healthy. She gives you the right color and maintains hair integrity. Also she sets your hair up for success so it will grow out nicely which I appreciate as someone who gets blonde highlights and has dark roots. 3) If you wfh, they are also super down and accommodating so you can clack away on your laptop and get your hair done. and lastly, GO TO ASHLEY (ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE BLONDE!!) read more

I had color with Diana and a cut by Sam- they took a lot of time to understand what I wanted and I finally got both the cut and color I've been trying to get for years. It is probably the best haircut I've ever had. the salon itself is unique-it's very low key, very relaxed and comfortable and everyone is incredibly friendly. I was introduced to Damien by my boyfriend (who was introduced by 3 of his friends who also go to Damien, lol) and we love him soooo much. I used to get anxious before haircuts because I was always uncertain if I'd get what I wanted or if I'd be happy when I left, but now I'm so excited when it's time for a cut! The first time I went to Damien I wanted layers with curtain bangs, and he gave me a really beautiful cut - posted pictures for reference :) I've been to him a few times now and I trust him to give me a perfect cut every time I go. I think If Damien moved I would have to follow him because I've been wanting a reliable hair stylist for forever and I'm so glad I finally found him!!! I appreciate that every time I go they bring me a tea and make me feel so excited for my hair transformation. I had my hair colored by the lovely Jade and she perfectly matched my Inspo picture to my hair. She has colored my hair from a deep brown to a firey red and then to a golden brown and she just nails it every time. She somehow created the most perfectly subtle/blended warm (and somehow still the right amount of ashey!) blonde highlight that I didn't even think was possible with my shade of dark brown hair....not only that, but she managed to achieve my dream color when I had walked in that same day with the brassiest, most uneven, patchy base (I am getting married in 4 months and made the mistake of letting a friend box dye my hair with drugstore products). Diana BAKSH is my hair dresser and has been for the last 15 years. I first met Diana at another salon BEFORE I had even moved to New York. I have always had short hair styled in a pixie. Each time I came to NY I would look at women and their haircuts. Finally, I found a lovely woman with exactly what I needed and asked here where she got it cut. That was 15 years ago. Over the 15 years we have become dear friends. She can cut and style short hair perfectly, which in my opinion is the most difficult. In short haircuts any mistake shows. In fact, even a small mistake will jump out at you. This is what she has perfected and I never worry about how my hair will look. She is, quite frankly, the best. Her other strong suit is color. She has the unique ability to make the color you choose look as if you were born with it. Her eye for color is unbeatable. Leah did my extensions last year before a trip I had planned to Australia. I was nervous about such a big change, but once I met with Leah, my nerves turned only to excitement! She walked me through the process and what to expect in our consultation and thoroughly (and patiently!) answered all of my questions. She was able to make room for me in her busy schedule to do the application right before my trip and I am so happy we were able to, because I absolutely adored the result!! She is truly an artist (magician!) and completely transformed me into having the hair of my dreams! I will most certainly be retuning to her for my next venture into long hair! The salon itself is great: friendly front desk staff and lovely ambiance. I booked an appointment for a $120 haircut hoping to get a bouncy bob tailored to my hair density and my face shape. The stylist, after asking me a couple of questions, just did a quick blunt cut, which looked ok right after the appointment: voluminous and bouncy. However, as I washed and styled my hair at home, I realized that there was no volume on the crown and my hair just looked flat while flaring out at the bottom. For haircuts, PENELOPE IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST. She has handled my hair through all different lengths and phases. I have been going to the salon since Covid. My hairdresser had retired and a friend recommended the salon and Yasue for the cut (who is fantastic)! I researched yelp for a colorist. I'm a dark brunette and saw a Yelp review mentioning Michelle was great for blondes and brunettes. She's amazing!! She was able to match my color perfectly! In the last year she has lightened my very dark hair to lighter brown and added in highlights.
