This is such a fabulous hair salon. From the moment I walked in I was greeted with a smile and offered a beverage. The salon was clean and well kept. ALL the staff were friendly. There's a secure place to keep your bags and coat. My clothes were not stained when I left. The towels they use are washed often. The studio is located in a lively area. The music that was being played was calming and trending. I was directed to Lisa, who did two consultations about a single process treatment. Lisa throughly looked at my requests and offered me exquisite advice and suggestions. She even did her "homework" and showed me women with my hair texture and length. We settled on a color and omg, AMAZING! She was fun, listened to all my stories, and knowledgeable. I'm thrilled with my color! I got the color rinsed out by another stylist whose name I don't know but she has silver blue hair. I'm embarrassed to say it but that's the most RELAXED I've been in a while, so much that I fell asleep. The temperature was perfect. She took her time and washed all the shampoo and conditioner out my hair. I was blow dried, pressed and cut by Davide who's literally did God's work with my hair. My hair grows in a weird way, I have some longer pieces, I have some really short pieces but when I got out that chair I felt like the prettiest woman in the world. He informed me of the products he put in my hair which I'm about to go buy! He took his time and offered great service. I went for a Cezanne Express treatment (for anyone unfamiliar, Cezanne is a smoothing treatment similar to Keratin though it's formaldehyde-free and safe to use!) Davide instantly made me feel comfortable and talked me through exactly what my experience would be in the salon and how to properly care for it so it lasted. In addition to the excellent treatment and service by Davide, this atmosphere at this place is 5-star. While you wouldn't know it existed from the street (it's up a flight of stairs), once you enter you instantly feel as though you are in a homey New York loft apartment - it's cozy and has lots of light. You didn't come here to listen to me fawn, so let's get down to the brass tax: Location: conveniently located on Park Ave, his studio has beautiful large windows that take advantage of the natural light - perfect for photos and allows you to see your hair color without harsh overhead lighting. Booking: can be done online, you're able to select your stylist and services and get a quote immediately. No surprises! Never really had a hard time getting an appointment, outside of super peak times like the holidays. Staff: everyone that has ever assisted Dav during my services has been amazing. Friendly, courteous and most of all, knowledgeable. I like to learn about every step of the way, even though I'd never do it at home on my own . Although I only see Davide, I love the other stylists as well - you can tell they know what they're doing. Shoutout to René and Kelsey! Hair: Davide has never disappointed me. Even during instances where I haven't quite settled on a style I want, Dav is able to translate my current hair biology (new mom ) with my desired maintenance level. His balayage skills are unmatched, and I've been stopped on the streets several times by ladies who wished to know who did my hair. After your hair is dry, Davide has always accommodated how I want it styled, whether voluminous blowout or loose waves. Want to learn how to do it? Davide always talks through his techniques, although you can become an expert on your own through his Bubbles & Blowouts educational series (haven't been myself but plan on attending the next). Overall, while your services can add up, I consider hair to be an investment and I'd rather pay a bit more to get it done right versus having buyers remorse elsewhere. She made me a cup of coffee, we talked about what I had wanted with my hair and then she set to work, and so did I. With the wifi I was able to work while getting my hair done which was so very convenient for me. I got a balayage done, which for my hair length and dark color normally takes about 6 hours. I had a great experience upon walk-in request, Robert was lovely and staff chill and attentive. I only had their Cezanne keratin but three weeks and $350 later, my hair is the same texture but with color stripped requiring additional maintenance and cost. Not sure if they aren't using the product on hair like mine or what but despite telling them in person today and their offering to redo the same, three-hour treatment (I declined), I was not offered a refund, credit nor any other treatment to remedy anything. Three weeks later and my hair is exactly the same but multicolored, with same frizz. Do not get this treatment there or don't get it if you have curl boucle. Maybe their other services are good; I'll not be back to investigate. read more

I first started going to Davide when he worked at another salon. 5 years later, I still refuse to let anyone else cut my hair. Davide--and his entire team--are the epitome of a high class, high quality New York City salon. Nothing makes my day more than walking into the Studio and sitting down in his chair. Davide knows how to perfectly cut all types of hair (including my sometimes very straight, sometimes very curly mop that I never want to change (or even trim sometimes)). Not only are my haircuts exceptional, his care to every part of my experience is outstanding. For example, most recently, when getting my haircut for a formal wedding, Davide took the time (after a very long Friday, right at the end of his night) to show me some options for an updo/styling I could do at home. Who does that! I could go on and on, like when he takes the time to address my hair and product concerns, but you get the point. He is simply the best (my partner, who used to go to $15 hair salons, now also refuses to go to anyone but Davide). I also go to the amazing Lisa for my regular Cezanne treatments (which is a total game changer). She is so kind and patient explaining the process, the care, and the regularity in which I should have the treatment completed. Hi Davide, been at your Studio in March, I have great medium density/diameter hair, great smooth texture, Asian hair below my shoulders. And you cut me dry, I guess with the razor... I came, walked into your Studio with gorgeous hair, in 10 min I walked out with absolutely destroyed haircut lots of inconsistent layers and destroyed texture. Still trying to grow it out and still far away. Just a question: How in 5 seconds it was possible to destroy my hair so much? They saved my hair. And in a gorgeous salon. I moved to NY recently, and the pipes, water and stress absolutely ruined my hair almost overnight. I had never felt worse about my appearance when I walked into the salon - I truly had never seen my hair so lifeless. I didn't think the transformation they gave me was really possible. I was hesitant to try a new place in fear they would just do what they wanted to, and was about to just fly back to Austin to my regular stylist, but the staff here made me feel incredibly at ease that they could somehow make my stressed hair better. I had a triple whammy to work with -- thinning hair, new water and environment, and the blonde highlights were way too many colors. Before just diving in and doing what they know they can, both the colorist and the owner patiently explained everything I could do at home to make the moving adjustment (water filters, etc.) The colorist, Lisa, talked with me for 20 minutes before touching my hair. She then did a process I'd never tried, and took me three shades blonder than I was thinking would ever work - and it did. She took the time to do a much lengthier process (and no, it wasn't a dime more expensive than what I was paying for the quicker version in Texas) which showed she cares about her work. I loved the result -- it is much better for my natural growth coming in. The owner of the salon, Davide, gave me a fantastic hair cut as well. Nice people, quality work, gorgeous salon. As a man who really cares about his hair, haircare and style I can confidently say that as long as Davide is cutting & styling he will be the only one touching my hair. I first found Davide while he was working at another salon. I had just went through a year of trying 5-6 different stylists and salons around New York City and was getting very discouraged. Let me start by saying just how excited I was to visit the studio and get The Mona Cut. This review is me trying to be fair and understanding, but after talking with several people I was suggested to write this for others to know. The studio itself is accomodating and the people were nice, apart from my stylist. The Short: First, I was charged more money than what was quoted online when you book. Be aware and make sure you determine your cost before you go. It said $160 and I was charged $180+. Second, as for the haircut, Mona cut off more than half of my curly hair without telling me her intentions or she did not speak to me about cutting it that much. When I showed her multiple photos of what I liked, she shook her head and said those girls have different hair and more volume, I told her about my recent miscarriage and how my hair has been affected. She said my hair is growing in straighter and that the ends need to be cut for sure, I said yes I agree that the damaged ends need to be cut. I then explained I wanted to grow my hair out. She proceeded to cut off more than half of my hair, I had about 13 inches of hair, 7 inches was cut off. I'm too old to cry about hair, but I will write a review of this negative experience. The Long: I hesitated writing this review, because the stylist who cut my hair is very popular and situated within the "curly community," insofar that I feel improper writing that this has happened. But, its the truth and I think other curly girls should know. I booked the "The Mona Cut," by Mona Baltazar because of Stylefeen's rave about her and unfortunately, it was NOT what instagram raves about. I'm either really surprised and shocked that I received the cut and treatment that I did or I am really surprised and shocked at how good her business must be after linking with a select few people in the curly community. She has really good marketing, please be wary! Maybe she does well with others, but this experience was one of the coldest and most non engaged I've ever had at a NYC salon and I have been here for 12 years. I couldn't tell you what Mona's voice sounds like really. Perhaps she didn't feel like cutting hair that day? The one star is because as a master stylist, which I assume for $200 that is supposed to be what Mona is, she didnt listen to me or ask me more questions. The biggest reason for this one star is that Mona did not tell me what she intended to do with my hair, but I really trusted her because *instagram said so* and she cut off 7 inches of my curls. 7 inches! That is a little more than half of my hair, she cut off half of my hair. I have a layered short bob that is at my shoulders that I can hardly put in a bun. Afterwards, I showed other stylists I know and some curly girls on social media and they were shocked and they say my photo looks like a "before picture." Be wary to go here for your first curly cut if you are NOT an influencer or just someone she likes, because I was SO EXCITED FOR THIS 2nd time curly cut - its been years. I was SO LET DOWN. My hair does not grow quickly, I believe I will be maybe 36 by the time it grows out to the length it was at. I am 31. This is not an exaggeration of time, this is an estimate suggested from the history of how long it has taken my hair to grow in the past. Years. Please note (because I am Sure the salon will comment underneath this in Mona's defense) but I understand the need for damage to be cut off, however I have never been to a Hair Salon where they specialize in hair, but does not discuss how much is being taken off in the stylists opinion, or if the client is even comfortable with that. Stylists take some off and ask how you feel, stylists suggest what they are thinking, stylists are paid that much money for a reason because they are usually the bomb! Not the case....It honestly looks like a supercuts hair style. I guess I'll post photos but im sincerely embarrassed. Maybe color can save me but I dont have the funds for that right now. :( read more
