A GEM OF A COIFFURE TUCKED ATOP FIFTH AVENUE: I came across the SCK Salon during this summer. It's a little beauty gem tucked away on Fifth Avenue close to Saks. The salon interior is lovely and an experience in of itself: a pristine white loft on the fourth floor. It's well-designed, minimalist and sun kissed, making for a bright and lovely experience. The salon staff are efficient and so pleasant making the overall experience a boost to your day. I had a single process (with Tam) and cut (with Chen). Both were done professionally. Tam is such a pleasant and kind coiffure. Chen does an amazing blow dry and is a very talented hairdresser. He does good haircuts too. I cannot recommend both of them enough after the pleasant experience I had, right down to the thoughtfully prepared cappuccino and biscotti for their clients. The one thing that places this salon in my favourites list is the fact that they use Kerastase products which are really so agreeable with my hair type and have been a product that I have used since my 20's at hairdressers around the world. The Kerstase shampoos and conditioners brought back such nice and happy memories ... The prices range from USD 165-200 dollars for a single process. About USD 155- 258 dollars for a cut and USD 67-150 dollars for a blow dry. The only thing I would change or ask more of at this salon would be music, music, MUSIC! It's always great to have some tunes playing in the background as you get pretty or prettier, as the case maybe. Enjoy your time at Salon SCK. I never write reviews, but this salon is one of my favorite places in the world. I have very thick, curly hair and have never felt as comfortable letting people touch my hair as I do with this salons- they absolutely know how to handle curly hair well. I wear my hair both curly and straight, and dye it, and Kristen and Michelle have made me fall in love with my hair again. Before my first appointment, I came in for a consultation with both Kristen (for color) and Michelle (for cut). They answered all of my questions and really took the time to get to know me and my hair, and what I needed. Both are absolute genius and I'm obsessed with their work. Kristen helped fix horrible highlights from past salons and created the multi-dimensional brunette color of my dreams. Michelle is so thoughtful and precise with her cuts- she makes a haircut as user-friendly as possible so I can do as little as possible at home and still love the way it looks. She gives great advice and product recommendations for at-home styling. Everyone at the salon is kind and brilliant, and for the amazing quality it's incredibly affordable. We visited Salon SCK in May while we were in NYC. We were walk-ins and requested a bang trims for me and my 5-year old daughter. Devin was so sweet to both of us, treating us with care and courtesy and showing genuine interest in how our trip was going. He was very experienced, instantly noticing the mixed texture of my daughter's hair, and gave great advice on top of really beautiful haircuts. I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Clint and he is one of the most genuine business owners I've ever met that truly takes how his clients feel to heart. The spacious salon overlooks Broadway and I love the natural light that flows through it. I liked how each station had ample room from the other so you didn't feel elbow-to-elbow with another client like a lot of salons in NYC. I moved from Chicago to NYC last year and I've had the same two people color and cut my hair for the last 19 years. This was a HUGE step for me to let someone I had never met cut my hair. Not everyone can cut curly hair! Clint was so reassuring and paired me with a colorist and stylist that would understand my needs. I felt like I won the hair lottery when I met Dallas and Ryan. I flew into nyc to attend a black tie event. I decided to try a new hair salon. When I called SCK I was initially impressed by how friendly the person was who set up my appointment. Carmel did my hair and I could not believe how skilled she was. She knew exactly what to do to enhance my look. I wish I could provide a before and after. I was then escorted to the nail area which was really nice! At one point Carmel had asked about my makeup which led me to Giella, Their very talented makeup artist. Omg another great result. Devin Toth taught me everything I know about hair :) I discovered this georgeous second floor gem in the heart of Columbus Circle about 5 years ago and never went anywhere else since. Devin is a wizard with scissors!! And not only that, he also took the time to show me how to completely transform my stubbornly lifeless fine hair into voluminous and beautiful locks. Seriously, my hair is difficult since it is easily weighted down or dried out by products that promise "volume", but... Devin. Just. Gets. It. I generally don't even come in with a particular style in mind. From the moment I sit in his chair, j absolutely trust his sense of style and more importantly he just understands his clients after the initial consultation. He even generously offered his time to show me a sampling of the countless techniques he knows that would be appropriate for my hair type, and the style I am hoping to achieve. Devin Toth transformed my long, dimensionless, ordinary hair into a KILLER CHIC Classic Bob à la Sassoon, and Heather Lee did a beautiful single process color to my natural color (dark brown/black) and a mask to add gloss and health to my balayage-damaged locks. 5 stars for Devin who is an absolutely skilled, wonderful, positive, and professional spirit. It is rare to see a Sassoon bob being done these days, but he was ON point! His expertise is unmatched. The countless layers in the back added the beautiful depth and volume of the signature graduated Vidal Sassoon bob. Devin made sure I was comfortable throughout the whole cut, and had me weigh in frequently on how I was liking the look to make sure it was just what I wanted! To see the precision with which Devin cuts and styles, was an experience in itself. He has a great eye for aesthetic details. Since I hadn't had a bob in 6 years and my hair has a natural wave, I was a bit curious for how I would manage it/look in the Sassoon bob. But it's been a week since my cut and I can tell you that it has been perfect!! I received so many compliments, head-turns, and jaw drops... from co-workers to strangers, and friends. Also, the way Devin cut my hair, it is super easy and fun to manage. All I've been doing is combing my hair after washing...Incredible, no? It has its sexy moments; it has its cute moments. I love Salon SCK! I used to go to Danny for blow-dry, and decided to try Devon for haircut. I like his cuts. I usually just get trims because I am growing out my hair and he does a good cut, and teaches how to style. He recommended Dallas for hair color, and I love my hair! His assistant April did a fantastic job styling it after. The salon is so so calming, it has a zen feel, everyone is super nice and friendly and pleasant. I love coming here. Everyone is so warm! I have been to name salons and stylists where you are one of many. Here, they treat you well and with warmth. The ambience itself is simple but spacious, and the overall vibe is positive. I highly recommend this place. My last experience with a name stylist elsewhere who hiked up her rates by 30%, wasn't very pleasant.
