I've been going to this salon and more specifically Katie Ferrell for almost two years now. I started out going in simply for a blowout after a surgery when I couldn't wash my own hair. And then went in for some blonde highlighting (which were phenomenal) after trying somewhere else that left me unhappy. Katie fixed me right away. Then when I wanted to go back to more of my natural brunette Katie didn't blink an eye. She's been giving me amazing depth and rich browns for the last year and I'm impressed every. Single. Time. She's efficient with time, offers unique and engaging conversations and makes you feel extremely welcome. The salon space itself is lovely. Great drink amenities if you need, some of the most comfortable shampooing chairs and conveniently located. I'll be a customer for many years to come. read more

I am so impressed with what Jamie did with my hair!! I had always gone for a red/brown color hair but wanted something different! I showed her a picture and just like that she knew how to do my hair. I went for highlights with blonde and it turned out so beautiful! The most important thing is that she did not fry my hair up!!! 10/10 would recommend coming here and ask for Jamie!!! read more

I found Jamie on Salon Apprentice because I was tired of paying $400+ for a mediocre balayage and I'm SO happy I found her. The price for a partial balayage, gloss, and haircut is significantly lower than many of the salons I researched around the city. The quality of work on my hair is apparent and it was exactly what I wanted. Jamie was such a pleasure to work with - she asked questions and made sure she understood what I wanted. I feel absolutely blessed to have had my hair done by Payton. He is the best thing to ever have happened to my hair. I went in to turn my dirty blonde hair pink - I ended up with a gorgeoussssss color. He meticulously applied the dye - and I even got an educational session out of it! I learned so much about caring for my hair. Clearly, he knows what he is doing. I have spent a comparable amount at other places and never received such a thorough 5-star experience. I felt pampered every step of the way. Payton even followed up with me via email to check in and see how my hair was doing after a scuba trip - and made me a personalized conditioner mix just for me. I also have to give a shout out to Jamie who checked me in and checked my temperature - she was so welcoming and made me feel like family. I even got to do a mini-photoshoot after the look was complete. Talk about feeling like a VIP! If you have hair - take it to A Grand Union. You will be glad you did. read more

A Grand Union is such an incredible salon! First, it is Japanese owned, and they carry the best of the best, Milbon. The service here is thoughtful, caring, attentive, and warm. Everyone is so kind and happy in the salon, which you immediately see and feel. I initially connected with junior stylist, Jamie, via email- and she was really accommodating considering my last minute request! I know nothing about hair, and Jamie made me feel really comfortable and listened to everything I wanted. She was so honest and that made me feel so at ease because there is an art to doing what you do and NOT making another person feel pressured or strong-armed. I've definitely been to salons before where they've been like yeah you just have to cut off 5 inches of this dead hair-- Jamie was like listen we can cut off what feels most comfortable for you this time, and then address the rest later so it's not a cold shock to the system. THAT'S what I love. I'm sure she wanted to cut off all the dead hair, but she just wants her clients to feel heard and be happy-- and she is just a happy, beautiful soul! My most recent visit entailed me saying "sunkissed hair"-- most stylists would have been like that is so vague and gotten annoyed. We spent easily 6 hours together to achieve what I wanted (I couldn't describe it- it was like a devon aoki blonde-y not orange-y sun bleached vibe)-- and Jamie did a perfect job. She explained what color processes we could do, what the maintenance and cost of that would entail, etc. I feel so open with her and like I can say oh I can't afford this but this is something I can do, and she gets creative to work with me. She is a next-level human and a life friend. Go see Jamie, your life will be exponentially better!! read more

Jamie, Jamie, Jamie! I am thrilled with the service that she did, and I love the results! I have been a blonde for quite some time, and wanted to go back to my natural hair color, which is black. Jamie spent a lot of time to get my overly processed hair to take on the dye, along with helping it look healthy and natural. She is knowledgeable, with a wealth of knowledge and experience. She is great at explaining everything that she is doing, and strives to get you what YOU want, and is honest about what you should expect with your hair. As for pricing, it was incredibly reasonable given the location and how nice everything is, and the products that are used. The salon itself is beautiful, very clean, and follows all protocols, while keeping you comfortable and relaxed. I can't recommend this salon enough! read more

I had a great experience here at A Grand Union! Jamie did an amazing job with my hair. She was able to take my light brownish hair to a perfect shade of blonde, that I'm completely obsessed with! Her knowledge and attention to detail truly shines in her work. She's great at walking you through everything she's doing and making sure you're satisfied throughout the whole process. Her genuine love and passion for what she does makes it even better! I highly recommend this salon and ask for Jamie, she's an amazing stylist! We would highly recommend this salon! My boyfriend and I went there together and are very happy with the results. Firstly, they checked all the boxes when it comes to COVID safety precautions- temp checks, hand sanitizer, social distancing, etc. Plus, the location is gorgeous and has the most comfortable salon chairs we've ever sat in. Beyond that, they did a great job on our cut/dye jobs. Katicita tackled my very difficult double process job turning my insanely grown out roots from quarantine into a beautiful platinum blonde. While Payton did a great job on my boyfriend's highlights, haircut, and styling. I've attached before and after pics so everyone can see. Definitely recommend booking yourself an appointment. The only stylist that touches my hair is Jamie! I can never give her a definite answer on what I want for my hair, but she does her best to work with me and at the end it's always magic. What makes it better is just her amazing & genuine personality. You can definitely tell she loves what she does. You can always ask her for tips & advice for hair care too. Whether I'm in the chair for one hour or five hours, I know it'll always be a good & comfortable time getting prettied up by her. Thank you Jamie for being my hairy god mother! I'm back! Last time I came here was right before quarantine started, so for 1.5 years, my hair was uncared for. I developed a lot of split ends on my ends, but my balayage color still held up (albeit still so very dry and fried)! My hair was practically at my belly button at this point and I knew I wanted to chop a good chunk of it off. So I made an appointment with Katherine again so she can fix my hair. I didn't have much of a plan coming in. All I wanted was shorter hair and for my balayage to be redone and on the warmer side. And that's exactly what Katherine did -- she chopped off all the split ends and refreshed my hair. She walked me through each step and she was such a fun conversationalist. I treated myself to the deluxe spa treatment that comes with a scalp massage and steam treatment. I highly recommend it. Lico sat me down and asked me what my concerns were and if I had any tension around my head, neck, and shoulders. I told her my eyes were tired from a lot of computer time, my neck was a bit stiff from sleeping weird, my grays were starting to show, etc. So basically, I was feeling kinda meh and needed some TLC to help me feel like the diva that I am (somewhere deep inside... ?). Blah blah. Anyways, after you tell her what your concerns are, you choose which shampoo scent you'd like as well as which essential oils for the conditioning treatment. I went with the citrus fragrance followed by ylang ylang and geranium. She then guides you to the shampoo chair which is more like a recliner on steroids. Then she gently massages your head and does all kind of magic to your scalp and hair with the fragrances you chose earlier. 90 min later you wake up with your hair super shiny, smelling really nice, and as if though you got a facelift (I'm not kidding, my cheekbones were like whoa). And then I went home and FaceTimed my sister and told her I felt super hot stuff while I picked up pizza on the way. P.S. I slept like a baby and woke up to three missed calls from an estranged lover. I guess he could sense my hotness. read more

I don't usually leave reviews but wanted to leave one for Eriko who absolutely killed it when it came to fixing my hair. I have very thick and frizzy hair and came in with a bad orange dye job. Eriko not only fixed it in one session but also had so much patience and humor when it came to the process. I came in with my confidence really shaken and came out feeling like it had been restored. BARI is the absolute BEST!! I've been going to him since last year and I have trusted him with bringing my hair from a long dark brown 'do to a shoulder length blonde. I'm Asian so you can imagine that bringing my hair from dark (with having used box dye a few months prior) to a bright blonde was going to be cumbersome. Yet he did it in one sitting. After going in a few times to have it touched up we decided to apply a darker color at the roots to give it a more natural feel when my growth shows. After two visits he was able to bring it to the perfect ashy blonde. Throughout the process, he was attentive, collaborative and so fun. Sitting hours in a chair with him just felt like hanging out with a friend. I'm so glad he was part of my hair journey. The salon is also gorgeous, clean and bright. Where do I begin? I was recommended to A Grand Union by my nail artist, who also is a client of this salon. I trust her judgement, so I had a good feeling going into the appointment. The owner of the salon, Yuki, welcomed me in, hung up my jacket and tote bag, and asked me if I wanted a drink. I went to the restroom to wash up before my appointment and was greeted by my stylist when I came out. Let me tell you, my stylist, Jamie, did not disappoint. She is a breath of fresh air, accommodating, and welcoming. I don't think I've ever met a more genuine person. She was honest about the current state of my hair, but also optimistic on what my hair journey will look like. She worked magic on my hair and the scalp massage was next level. Jamie is knowledgeable and broke down all the steps to me. I learned so much about hair during my appointment. I'll be back soon to do my color, since I was still unsure about what I wanted done, so I stuck with doing only a haircut at my first appointment. I can't wait to go back! read more

After over a year, I finally went to get my hair done. A Grand Union is a beautiful, spacious salon. The playlist is amazing and the place is incredibly clean and in line with covid-19 regulations. I felt very safe and well taken care of the entire time. My hairstylist Katicita (Katherine Farfan) is very talented and friendly. Coming in I knew I was asking for a lot (I had very long, fine hair, with longer roots). She was able to deliver on exactly what I wanted and beyond ! I'm thrilled to have found someone who can care for my hair !! Highly recommend this salon and Katherine. read more

It has now been about a month, and despite giving plenty of time for a reply, I have been ignored. I did not immediately leave reviews or make public comments because I wanted to give him the opportunity to address the situation directly. Unfortunately, that opportunity was never taken. For $480, I expected a higher standard of work and customer service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Masaki.

I was really unhappy with my hair that I went to get a hair treatment (for the dry, damaged hair) and toner at a different salon a week later. That stylist even asked "who did your hair?"

The private soak was nice but I really enjoyed the sauna. It was definitely a great experience. Came out feeling revitalized. My boyfriend really enjoyed the massage and the amenities.

Andrew from A Grand Union is the first stylist to ever do exactly what I wanted with my hair to a tee. I am completely clueless about hair and how anything hair-related works so it's usually very hard to communicate what I want, but Andrew was very patient with me and made sure I was comfortable with everything he did to my hair (trim and color). For the past few years I have tried getting my hair to a specific shade of copper brown, but at every hair salon I tried they never got it right, either making the highlights too chunky, the color too orange, or the color too yellow. I was genuinely shocked when Andrew dried my hair and the color came out to exactly what I had envisioned in my head. He could not have done a better job with both the trimming and the color and I am VERY happy with my hair. I highly recommend this place and Andrew to anyone reading this review!!! read more

I had my hair colored by Katherine and she did an amazing job. She really knows how to work all kinds of hair, but especially asian hair which I find hard to come by. The balayage color she did was absolutely beautiful, very natural and subtle. She was very attuned to what I wanted and we discussed colors before. Jamie, who is also a sweetheart, blew out and styled my hair after, and she made it look beautiful! Along with Katherine, who is my color stylist, this salon is great. I had a great visit to this salon recently. I had been there a few times pre-Covid and now back at least twice since things started reopening. I remain really impressed with the staff and overall salon experience. Everyone there is professional and know how to create an atmosphere that's friendly and relaxed. I had a "Blonde Moment"…read more It all has been leading up to this moment. The shorter hipper haircut, the light brown hair and the addition of blonde highlights. Yes. It was the dress rehearsal before the big recital. In Training Summer was coming and my monthly visit to The Little Hair Shoppe for my cut and color was here and I was ready to go blonde! I was ready. Dustin was ready. After numerous practice runs with cutting my long hair (only an inch at a time because that was all that I would allow) to chopping it short and using his skills to paint in blonde pieces. This was our moment. The Big Day A few lunges into the mixing bowl and we were ready to roll. After spending most of his Saturday on my oval head. The big reveal was here...I was blonde. WOW! I was blonde. Dustin, is a magician. He can make you look amazing no matter what your hair color. You will walk out of there looking and feeling beautiful. My new shade was an adjustment, one that I was willing to go home and fall in love with, which I did. But, my love was taking longer than I hoped. I took a few selfies and realized, "Hey, I can rock this look!" The response from those close to me were positive. I felt edgy and cool. Groundhog's Day The next morning I woke up and looked in the mirror and loved it, but, still didn't quite adjust. I texted Dustin and asked if he could tone it down a bit. He did tell me, it would get lighter and the color would look different as my roots grew in. But, without hesitation, he invited back into the shoppe. So, like a scene out of "Groundhog's Day" I was sitting in Dustin's chair and he was more than willing to help me with my "blonde moment." A few swirls and here I was a slightly toned down version of my new look. Fast-forward to today, Thursday and I still am trying to embrace my blonde. I texted him and since he didn't retire or block my number, he was more than understanding and invited be back to sit in his chair...one more time. Another lunge into the mixing bowl and several strokes of the brush, Dustin had me back to a mix of brown and blonde, which I love. I learned four things from my "blonde moment": 1) Dustin is an amazing soul, as is everyone at The Little Hair Shoppe. 2) I loved the blonde color, but I think I love a mix of both worlds. 3) No matter your physical appearance, you can rock any look. Just remember, "You do you." 4) Most important, The Little Hair Shoppe is more than a hair salon. After years of being a Client at The Little Hair Shoppe, they have become family. My friends. They are a unique group of people that will have your back no matter what the situation. I promised Dustin and the rest of the crew, they will not see me again this weekend. =). Marisa has made me into a new woman!…read more She took me up as a last minute appointment and also stole me away from Dustin--couldn't have been happier! After scouring yelp trying to find the perfect salon to go to , I settled for The Little Hair Shoppe. It had spectacular reviews and so many tips that mentioned Dustin. I immediately called in and booked an appointment with him. I had called to get a cut and color but Dustin wasn't going to have enough time for the color. I had arrived an hour before my appointment and Rob was gracious enough to connect me with Marisa. She had agreed to do both my cut and color. While I was reluctant at first , since I hadn't remembered reading much about Marisa, I am actually glad that Dustin wasn't available because Marisa has just earned herself a lifelong client. Marisa and I sat down and discussed what exactly I was looking for. It was my first time getting a color job done in a salon so I was very nervous and wasn't sure what to expect. I have a small round face and was looking to get a fringe cut with some highlights or an ombre. Marisa took a look at the pictures I had saved on my phone for reference and was instantly able to visualize the perfect cut and color style for me. Mind you, she is the only hair stylist to date that has NOT turned me down for a full on bang/fringe cut. I had asked for a fringe cut before from other stylists and they had all said that my face was too small and the cut would not look on my face. Boy, were the wrong-- I look gorgeous! ;) I ended up going with chestnutty highlights and bangs across my forehead with deep layers. Marisa was patient in explaining all my questions about the process and how to manage my hair after. Since I lack visualization skills, I heavily leaned on Marisa's expertise and skills-- I went with her choice of highlight colors. We were both on the same page. I was looking for a natural, subtle look that was definitely noticeable. 3 hours later, I came out of that salon as a new woman. I was absolutely floored by my new hairstyle and the lack of maintenance it would need. Marisa had also suggested and noted a few products I should get to keep the salon look fresh. She also had me sold on the moroccoan oil products that they had both used on my hair and sold at the salon. My hair cut was about $300. Cut is usually about $85 and coloring is $215 without tax. On a side note, I love everyone here. Everyone is so friendly and amazing. The owner Petra (?) does cuts alongside everyone else and is just a great character. Nick the guy who shampooed my hair is also a total sweetheart! Not to mention, the place is cozy and cute -- not one of those snobby, too-cool-for-school looking places that you always pass by in Manhattan. I can say with confidence that I will not be going anywhere else for my cuts and color.

My stylist Melanie who is curl specialist is now working here and I couldn't be happier. As always Melanie listens to what I want and don't and gives suggestions that I always appreciate. Literally the exact opposite of what I said I wanted. I would not recommend Taylor for a cut with anything besides just a basic shorter length. I'll also add that I was consistently pushed to publish a review by 3 different employees... felt odd.
