Just had such a great experience here. I'm not the kind of person who gets hair work very often, and when I do, I try to be frugal about it. I came in for a consultation with Eddie (through a friend's recommendation) knowing that my hair color concept was unusual enough that I'd want to fully trust whoever was doing it. Eddie was immediately calm, funny and honest, and seemed to light up at my less conventional ideas. The fact that he gets genuinely excited about doing more unusual coloring jobs was a good sign, so I followed through. Anyway, he worked diligently, spoke me through his plan, and the results are awesome. He did a color block of half of my bangs in a very bright blonde, and added in complimentary highlights to bring it all together. The photo I'm posting is of right after the service, but even when my hair air dries and takes it's natural form, it looks so good. Unfortunately I had to rush out near the end of the service (and though I don't wish that pressure on him) he was super graceful about finishing up quickly while not sacrificing the end result. If you are looking to do something a little out of the ordinary or out of your comfort zone, definitely go to Eddie. He will not only do an amazing job, but also nudge you to be bold if you start to chicken out midway through the process like I always do. As for the salon, it was my first time so I don't have much to say, but everyone there seemed quite chill and friendly. I love this salon. I moved from California and was nervous about finding a new colorist, but I found Eddie! Eddie is a godsend, and a true artist. Not only is he extremely talented and has a great eye for design, but he's also kind and accommodating. Tom is also a sweetheart. I recently got dirty blonde hair extensions, and Eddie colored every other strand to make sure it matched my color. I was super impressed he went through the tedious process to make sure I was happy. Very happy to write this review as this was a truly superior experience. Where to begin?! I called for balayage highlights & a trim, Tom fit me in that evening (yes, a mere few hours from the time that I called!) The salon itself is super pretty... all reclaimed wood & a beautiful chandelier hanging in the middle. It's very clean & cool, without trying too hard. The fact that it's a boutique salon definitely adds to its charm & homeyness, but that is truly created by Tom & Monika who are absolute dolls. They are both talented yet unpretentious. they don't have that whole "I'm a NYC stylist" 'tude that is often found in Manhattan. They are both so sweet! Tom understood exactly what I wanted & then some. I didn't walk out feeling uncertain or insecure, I walked out feeling confident & happy. Loving my new hair color done by Eddie Wunderlich. I went in excited to try out a double process blonde hair color. I left Allure13 feeling and looking like a super hero! My experience at Allure was nothing less then fabulous! I have never done a color service like this before, so Eddie took his time to sit with me and explain all the details and the up keep. While processing I sipped on Prosecco and we ordered some light bites while conversing with the other stylists and their clients. The salon is so inviting, the staff at Allure runs the salon seamlessly. I will def be going back! As far as the Hair Color, it's the best blonde I have ever had. It's definitely a bold hair color with violet, grey and cool blonde tones complimenting each other. He sent me home with a conditioning treatment to follow up with the Milbon post color treatment we did, and I have to say it feels so smooth. This is a review for my talented and clever stylist Ritchie. It was my first time at Allure 13, and being a somewhat conservative person due to my field of work, I hardly changed my hairstyle in the past 3 years. However, due to my many premature graying hairs, I was no virgin to hairdye and coloring every 2 months. Leaving my hair dry, brittle and uneven in colors. Ritchie was off the bat, a great listener. He learned about my personality, asked about my history and preferences, what I liked and disliked about my hair. His intuition provided me with a consultation that was thorough and something we both were excited about! My original hair color was a brassy, monotoned orange/brown - due to a quick and simple dye job from another location - with a dark line of root hair starting to grow out. Ritchie was clever and honest. He wanted to keep the warmth of my hair because it matched my complexion, while softening the transition between roots and the rest of the color. The end result was a blend of rich, cinnamon brown with warm undertones from my previous color, revealed when the sun shone on it. Exactly what I wanted, a natural multifaceted color that was beautiful in all its subtle details. I definitely felt very comfortable and trusted his opinion to give me a cute and clean medium cut and along with the color, resulting in a polished finish in which many of my patients have complimented since then! Getting your hair did... I've been going to Monika for over 2 years and she is amazing! In my search for an awesome hair dresser and someone who knew color. Not only is she amazing at color but she's amazing at blondes!!! (a miracle to find in NYC). She really listens to what you want and she does a good evaluation of what your hair can handle. My highlights always look so natural and they grow out beautifully. I've never had a hair dresser do such a good job with color --typically you are forced back in right away because of roots, but this is not the case when you have an expert. She also does great cuts and trims, she knows how to make the cut flatter your face. I can't say enough good things --just don't take up all her time so I can get an apt! The salon --She just moved into this brand new salon so that's why the reviews are fresh. It's very 'swanky yet boutique' . Beautiflully decorated --a very calm / bambo / spa feeling. Every time I go within hours strangers come up to me complimenting me on my hair. In my most recent visit I underwent a huge transformation from strawberry blond to what can be described as lavender, grey and blonde. He is meticulous and a perfectionist in every way. Tom is kind, smart, and hysterical, but best of all, he wants to make your hair beautiful and healthy, and he is so so skilled at his craft. I cannot say enough about the color work he has done on my hair, just that no one on any other continent has gotten it to look as amazing as he does. Tom is a wonderful stylist. He listened to me, looked at my pictures, and spent time figuring out what I wanted. From there, he suggested somethings based on my hair. He then explained what he was going to do before he did it. I was super nervous because I was getting bangs; however, Tom made me feel comfortable and secure with my decision. Loved Allure13! I was visiting New York and had time to kill, figured I would do something I've been meaning to do forever and turn my Lob rose gold or pink blond. Tom set me up with Daniel to do my cut and dye. Daniel and I discussed how I wanted it to be subtle enough for interviews and meetings but pink enough to make people question the color. He aced it. He started more sheer with the color but we mutually decided to amp it up more pink. The cut was also great. The entire staff was so friendly and attentive offering me water tea or coffee several times and taking my coat and bag for me. I'm writing this review to sing the praises of Averil Hull who recently joined Allure 13 Salon. I literally created this Yelp account just to compliment her on the internet and will likely never use it again. Like any woman or person who cares about their appearance, I am hugely picky about who I allow to cut my hair. When I first moved to New York 3 years ago I tried out multiple stylists at 7 different salons before finding her former salon, Laura Braunstein, on Yelp. The first appointment I had with her was probably really stressful for her since I had decided the night before that I wanted a side-shave haircut. Regardless, I walked in the next day and she did a great job consulting with me on how far back on my hairline to shave, how short to shave it, and how to style the rest of my chin-length hair to make it look natural but cool. I absolutely loved the cut and have been loyal to her ever since. Averil is the only reason I didn't start taking Megabuses back to Philly to see my old stylist (I wasn't kidding when I said I was loyal). Because I tend to take a really laid-back approach to the rest of my appearance, I am especially critical of my hair. Averil always listens to what I want and gives me exactly what I ask for, while also offering up her sage advice when something I say sounds a little too crazy. (She keeps me from looking like a troll.) She is fun to talk to but will also let you sit and quietly stew in your own head. And because I am poor graduate student living on a fixed income, I think it should speak volumes that I'm willing to pay to get all my cuts and trims with her because she is worth the money, and worth the trip down from Columbia's campus now that she has moved. Averil is a total pro. She's really fluid with her scissors/tools and will make the extra effort to go back and clip that one hair that is out of place when she has finished the cut. Found them on Yelp, and the great reviews do not lie! Not only were they able to squeeze me in for a same-day appointment, but they stayed late to finish my haircut. I had Daniel, who was an absolute gem - funny, warm, smart and knowledgeable. He listened to my concerns and goals, and we collaborated perfectly to create a haircut that fit me very well and was enough of a change without altering the essentials of my image (yeah, I'm a bit conservative :) We also chatted about history, politics, culture and food, and it was a perfect end to my day. The place is tiny (the bathroom is minuscule - I'm rather tall, and could hardly move in there), but the warmth and professionalism of the people more than make up for it! Plus, it's spotless. I have been going to Tom for the last three years. I inherited him from my close friend from college who has been his client for over 10 years and flys back from the West Coast to have him trim her bangs. No joke! I have long blonde hair and until meeting Tom have never really trusted anyone with highlights. I can literally fall asleep in his chair and wake up with amazing hair. Furthermore, he does the highlights and cut in such a way that I only have them done every 3-4 months which is incredible and so hard to pull off. In all seriousness -- Tom and the team at Allure 13 are not only skilled artisans, proudly representing their craft, but they're amazing people. Tom had me booked for a consultation -- which means 15 mins. to evaluate state of hair play and then schedule a follow up appt. for a later date. I had blatantly mis-understood the lingo, and actually needed a FULL FIX which meant him squeezing me into/around his existing schedule to accommodate my hair situation. Tom not only gracefully managed to squeeze me in, but he treated me like a person, and not a pain in the ass whiny client (which I probably was at that point, let's be honest). There are rare times in your life when you get that perfect hairstyle and everything in the world just falls into place. I'll be honest with you, I was a drab blonde who you wouldn't look at twice if I was walking down the street. But I was tired of being average, and I knew it was time to step up my game. So, on a friend's recommendation, I went to Allure 13 Salon. I was greeted by the owner, Monica. I said "I want a change. A big change!" She was Intrigued. I told her I want RED. Not just any red, I want Sharon-Friggin'-Osbourne-Red! She perked up but rightfully so, a bit hesitant. She sat me down and we stared at my reflection in the mirror. Red. Hmmm. After what felt like a few minutes, she finally said YES, Let's Do It! OMG! She said YES! I was freaking out, but also super excited. Can I even pull this off!? OMG! OMG! OMG! There was so much enthusiasm in the room - you just knew this was going to be magical. Even as the dye was sitting on my head, we knew this was the right choice. I have no idea how long I sat there - we were having so much fun - but as I was sitting at the sink getting rinsed out, I could feel her relishing in her work, like a doctor who just performed a successful brain surgery. This was going to be good! Well it wasn't good. It was insane! INSANELY AMAZING!! There was so much depth - highs and low tones. Hot and cold. It was everything I wanted and more. It.was.perfect! So now we tackled the cut which I left up to her. We knew what I had wasn't working and I was open to anything. I have to be honest, the woman's a genius with scissors. It's the most flattering cut I've ever had and that comes with experience, which she obviously possesses in spades. So as all fairy tales end on a happy note, I have finally found my forever salon.
