- Still Obsessed After 8 Years! Okay, listen up, people--if you haven't gotten your hair done at Davida's Salon with Melba yet, WHAT are you even doing with your life?! I've been coming here for over 8 yrs and Melba has NEVER disappointed. I'm talking about flawless balayage, cut, blow dry, and the curls that make me feel like I just stepped off a runway. ‍ Every time I leave, I feel like I just walked out of a shampoo commercial. Seriously, if you want hair that gets compliments from strangers this is the place. Melba listens to exactly what I want, and then somehow pulls off the impossible--transforming my hair into something that always looks better than I imagined. And the best part? It's like hanging out with your best friend while you're getting your hair done. Melba's energy is top-tier--chill, friendly, funny, and always full of great convo. You leave feeling refreshed not just because of your hair, but because of the entire experience. I'm pretty sure I could go in with a mop on my head and Melba would work some magic to make it look amazing. If you haven't booked your appointment yet, go ahead, treat yourself. You deserve it. Gabby did a great job fixing up my hair! I had a grown out balayage and was looking to transition to a rich brown for the fall season. I'm OBSESSEDDDD with my balayage! Miriana is such a gem of a person and the most talented hairdresser ive had I literally waited until she got back from maternity leave to get my hair done. And I'll just keep coming back she's so patient and kind and worked her magic to give me an even better look than I was envisioning!!!

Suzana is the best! She has done my babylights twice now and they grew out beautifully in the 6 months between coloring. When I was in last week she listened to exactly what I wanted to change from the first session and gave me exactly what I needed. I ended up getting engaged the day after the session and am so happy that I had been in the day before! She is also so kind and funny 10/10.

Rue did such an amazing job on my balayage last week! She really paid attention to the details and listened to exactly what I wanted. I showed her a photo from this salons instagram of the look/color I was going for, and she matched it perfectly. She recommended that I should blend everything (my dark roots) with a root melt (extra 55) and it made such a difference! The color flows so seamlessly and nothing looks too harsh or jarring, especially since I wanted to go as light as possible without the upkeep or maintenance of doing a full head bleach. Rue and her team were super gentle the whole time, especially during the bleaching and wash. When they brushed my hair out, I barely felt anything. I've had appointments at other places where it was painful getting my hair brushed after shampooing, but this was the opposite. I really love the money pieces she did, and the way she toned and styled everything. I have more hair than she expected so we ended up going over time, but she still made it work. She gave me her full attention throughout the 5+ hour appointment. She cared about making sure everything was right. I had mentioned my side bangs and the specific way I wanted my hair to be cut early on, and she remembered and made sure to cut my hair exactly how I like it! I also reached out to Rue on instagram with a couple of questions afterwards, and she responded to my DM and helped me out. It felt like the appointment didn't just end when I left the salon. You can tell she's really dedicated to her work and to making sure her clients are happy.

First off, the people at the front are always so kind and get you settled in nicely, asking if you need anything hung up or a drink (they offer bevs like water, coffee, even wine!) I see Mariana for my blonde + she is a MIRACLE WORKER. She understood exactly what I wanted and executed beyond what I had even envisioned! She's my new go-to, for sure. I can't say enough great things about Mariana and for the Davida salon as well. Mariana is a true hair artist and she really cares about the clients hair. I have almost black hair and how she gets the color so blonde is magic!! My last hair dresser moved back to Lebanon after me seeing him for 23 years and I was freaked out and did tons of research before coming to Davida. Everyone from Juanita at the front desk to all the stylists are professional and excellent... I see the others work their magic and client who leaves looks like a movie star. I have seen Mariana 3 times and not only does she listen to what you want, she really care about the quality of your hair and wants it to be healthy. I want to be practically bleach blonde but she says my hair will break and I trust and respect everything she says and I don't know how she does it: She takes such time doing meticulous weaving of the hair (and mines pretty thick) and she works fast which is another thing I love. She gave me a haircut this time which came out exactly the way I wanted it to. I really can't say enough good things about her. My only concern is that she's so good, i'm afraid i won't be able to get an appointment with her!!! The salon is also excellent about giving you a reminder text which I love and the prices are very fair for the neighborhood. If you go to Davida and book with anyone you will NOT be disappointed!!! read more

Hi, we offer ammonia free color, but most clients we have to use bleach in order to lift the hair. Our bleach has peroxide in it , unfortunately. Hope this helps! Thank you :-)

My most recent appointment was a complete failure. I asked for a warm, golden brown and came prepared with multiple reference photos. While the color was processing, I clearly flagged that it was pulling purple. That concern was dismissed, and the product was left on longer. The result was the darkest my hair has ever been, almost black with a cool, purple hue. The exact opposite of what I requested. The color job is all mismatched, the lower part of my hair significantly darker, the roots are sloppy and uneven. When I pointed this out, the response was defensive and dismissive. At one point, I was sarcastically asked if I wanted to "bleach it," which is an inappropriate and careless suggestion for already fine hair. It was mind blowing to have this handled so poorly and then be rushed through a cut that does not look anywhere close to the quality of the past cuts. I followed up requesting a refund, given that this will take months to correct and fade, and received no response for over 48 hours. It's not even about the money - it's about the severe lack of respect. What's most surprising is that this level of defensiveness and lack of accountability was unacceptable, especially after such a grave mistake. Instead of thoughtful adjustment and ownership, the response was dismissive in the moment and silent afterward. Mistakes happen. How they're handled is what defines a business. This was not handled well. NYC has no shortage of salons that can deliver both technical skill and professionalism. This is not one of them. The whole appointment (wash, cut, dry and style) took about an hour and cost $95 (I have relatively long hair, I believe they quote a price range to account for length). The salon itself was busy and a bit loud. It is very bright (likely because they do hair and makeup) and felt more like a party rather than a relaxing place/spa. They have a ton of staff so I was taken back right away. When I went, both men and women were there for haircuts and someone was getting their makeup done. I would absolutely go back and go to Senait again.

Let me tell you my story about my blonde ombré failure done by my previous stylist. I really wanted an ombré look from dark to light blonde and my previous stylist decided to bleach my whole head (I had chocolate brown hair with red undertones) and after bleaching my whole head, he decided to give me HIGHLIGHTS which I did not request. The whole trip ended up being a huge large waste of money and he FRIED my entire hair. Completely killed everything. My hair started to fall out every time I washed it; chunks came out and the ends were ripping apart like strands of thin thread. I was extremely upset and wanted to fix this problem right away. So I began my hunt for a new salon and stylist and that's when I came across DAVIDA SALON. I called and told them what I wanted and I was referred to ***JENISE***. I've looked at her portfolio online and decided I liked her work and went with her. Upon arrival, she was very sweet and cool and I got a really good vibe from her. As soon as she asked me what I wanted to get done (which was blonde balayage), she looked me straight in the face and told me up front, that whoever did my hair completely killed it and if I wanted to go to a different artist and have them steal money from me, then I was welcome to do so; but she WAS NOT going to destroy my hair any further and told me that I had to go dark and cut off all the dead hair (which I wanted too anyway cuz I wanted a bob cut). And so... almost 3 hours later, she did a PHENOMENAL job!!! Took her time to fix everything, make sure everything is symmetrical and color was on point!! Also any questions I had, she answered very straight up and politely. Also when she was washing my hair she was very gentle and did not hurt me and even massaged my head which felt really good and relaxing. Today was my second visit to Davida and I am as THRILLED and GRATEFUL as I was the first time I wandered in (in a terrible panic) a few days before Christmas!!!! In December I had purchased a "deal" online with a salon on the UWS and it was beyond a nightmare. My hair was orange streaked with bleach bleeding on the top and grey/ash on the bottom after a toner was tossed on as a fix. Crying and beyond devastated I walked into Davida as they were closing. In fact they were putting their coats on to leave. They asked if 1) I had done this to my hair? 2) If I could come back in the morning? Unfortunately I was leaving on a flight home to Ohio early the next morning. They did not hesitate. Without even knowing me... they all took their coats off and said that they would stay to fix it!!!!! 3.5 hours later I walked out with a miracle. My hair was gorgeous and I received endless compliments during the holidays. I was told I looked the best that I have ever looked. Being in the Beauty Industry... that is a pretty huge compliment. Today I went back for regrowth maintenance and had a super warm welcome and same level of detail paid to the results. They were determined to make sure the color was even better (I am very blonde now but very dark naturally- not easy to get a perfect blonde). This was my first visit to the salon. I purchased a deal through Living Social for partial highlights, haircut, blow dry, and moroconoil conditioner treatment. I had an appointment and arrived on time, waited to be seen by the stylist for about 20 min. Finally Russel introduced himself (seemed nice) I brought a picture of what i wanted done and he advised me to color my roots first (due to my grey hair) also i had a few brassy highlights mixed with my light brown base, to fix it all Russel advised me to do half a head highlights instead of partial. Basically i had 2 people working on me,the girl who washed my hair did my roots and Russel did my highlights (took him a while) thought it would come out nice since it took so long but it came out not what i wanted. When i came home my boyfriend was shocked and pointed out that my highlights were too far from my roots (about 1/2 an inch) and the color was horrible. I was embarrassed and went to a different salon and fix it all even my haircut was uneven! I was so upset cuz my hair was so dry i have no clue what kind of conditioner treatment they used, because i didn't see any difference in my hair texture. Therefore i was afraid to do anything else to my hair and ended up coloring it one color. Also i ended up paying extra for the half head of highlights and my roots!! TLDR; Trust your stylist, the balayage is amazing, and Bebe rocked my hair. I am a hair color virgin and was super nervous about making a change, but I knew I wanted to do a natural-looking balayage. I perused many, many reviews for salons in the UES and Davida seemed to be the best and most consistent with balayage, with a big team of stylists that all seemed skilled. I called the desk and told them what I was looking for, and they directed me to come in for a consult (and offered a digital option if I was busy or not in the area) so that they could ensure the hair was attainable. I went in a few days later for a consult, and spoke with Bebe to make a plan of action for my color the following week. I had wanted a honey blonde balayage on my light brown hair (natural color), but Bebe felt it would be better to use a more ash toned color for my skin tone and to balance out my warm toned hair, so we got something more neutral. She was the expert, I said let's do it. The actual color and cut went for a little over 3 hours. Conversation was light, and I felt very well cared for as Bebe and her assistant (never got her name!) checked in on my hair every 10 min as it was processing and toning, talking me through each step. Final cut and style was simple and relatively quick. Overall I LOVE how my hair turned out. Great experience, transparent pricing, friendly staff. Miriana is absolutely amazing. I had seen her twice before for haircuts, and during those times, we discussed the health of my hair and potential colors for my next balayage. I had been doing blonde highlights for about 2-3 years, resulting in dryness so Miriana suggested I do caramel to achieve that lightness I wanted, but without all the damage from going blonde. She was absolutely right but I completely forgot to consider how different my face would look compared to my previous blonde. At first I was... worried - but this was at NO fault of Miriana's. She told me what it would look like, but the adjustment to the color change took a minute. Regardless, Miriana stayed wonderful through it all. She took me outside to see the color in different lightings, she dried and styled the rest of my hair to better accentuate the dimensions, offered to tone it down a shade, or come back after a few washes. She made sure that I knew I had options. After she showed my hair a couple of different ways, in different lights, I realized that I loved it, and needed this change. I felt terrible because my hair was absolutely beautiful, but my initial reaction had her so concerned. I met Danielle almost ten years ago and I have not looked back. I was walking with a friend of mine and I just walked into the salon she was at (at the time) and I just wanted a regular wash and dry. I had a little longer hair then, she noticed under my hair I had broken pieces from over bleaching that my ex hair stylist did. Which by the way, wasn't growing back and my hair is very healthy and strong and usually grows very fast. She told me what they did wrong and that she would take care of me (she didn't have to obviously) let me tell you. I continued to go with her and my hair grew back. Almost four years ago I stumbled into Davida Hair design by chance. That was my lucky day! I had been getting highlights since I was 15 years old in my native country but never managed to find the right color in NY....When I met Russel for the first time, I had a duck yellow kind of color, after a brief assessment he knew right away what was needed: highlights, low lights, a gloss to harmonize it all, a cut to give it the right edges... Magic Sleek is AMAZING. I came here several weeks ago to get Magic Sleek done by Janice and it was the best decision I have ever made for my hair. First off, Janice is extremely kind and she put in so much time and effort into my hair, which i greatly appreciated. My hair reaches passed my lower back so I know it was a lot of work, but she took her time and was so careful. Before getting the treatment done my hair took a lot of time to dry, let alone straighten. Now my hair dries PIN STRAIGHT. It is amazing. After I wash my hair I simply blow dry it and it's totally straight. On top of that, my hair has never felt softer or been more shiny. There are a few things to note. One would be that it stripped all the black hair color out, making my hair it's natural brown. I was not too upset about this considering it was time for a touch up anyways, but it is something to keep in mind. Also, there is a lot of pulling throughout the process so mentally prepare for a sore scalp. Lastly, it's a long and tedious process for those with long hair for obvious reasons. I recently discovered Davida Hair Design on a whim. I was walking in my neighborhood and I noticed a new salon. I was a little shaggy at the time so I decided to give it a try. I walked in and was immediately greeted with a friendly "Hello" I mentioned I wanted to get a cut and color and within minutes was swept away into "shampoo land" Their sinks are actually comfortable to sit at and they do a nice job shampooing and conditioning your hair; even a little head massage to go with it! After that I sat in the chair and my cut began. From the moment the clippers touched my head, I knew this cut would be different. Unlike most places that just speed plow through my hair,my stylist (and owner) Russell took prestine care as he guided his clippers around. You can tell he takes great pride in his profession. Russell did a phenomenal job with my color and cut! I had gotten a balayage years back that had really damaged my hair and I was hesitant to try again - I have really dark hair naturally and a lot of it. I felt incredibly comfortable after we had an extended consultation to make sure he understood what I was looking for and believed it could be achieved without sacrificing the health of my hair. He also recommended adding in an Olaplex treatment which I happily took him up on. As for the coloring process, he was thoughtful in his color placement and reached a really gorgeous color that didn't wash out my fair skin tone (one of my bigger concerns!) For the cut, I had gotten curtain bangs a month or two ago and they were uneven and blunt and he added the dimension I wanted and fixed the mess I had while adding really beautiful long layers through the rest. GUYS. I never leave Yelp reviews. Ever. After never dying my hair my whole life (yes, I was blessed as a natural blonde), I wanted to go lighter. So naturally, I grabbed a shitty box of hair dye, and made a huge mistake. Cut to the next morning - I'm frantically calling all of my friends with amazing hair asking about their salons, and one tells me about Davida, so I call. First of all, Nicole, the woman who answered the phone, was so sweet and helpful, and even had me text her photos of the damage I had done to my hair to get a better idea of how to help me (and remembered me when I came in, AND when I called back for my next appointment)! Chelly was the one who actually did my hair, and after taking almost 3 hours, not only was everything COMPLETELY fixed, but I absolutely LOVED my new platinum color, which is what I was going for in the first place! She even stayed late on a Sunday to finish what was a long process. I just wanted to say thank you so kindly to all of the staff at Davida, but Chelly - you saved me!!!! GO HERE! TRY THIS PLACE NOW! This review is long overdue but I finally have the chance from my busy schedule to write it. A couple months back I had blonde hair with highlights. My hair was damaged due to the fact that the salon I previously went to did not dye my hair correctly. I wanted to go back to my natural hair color and my friends mother recommended for me to go see Russell. When I walked in the staff and environment was super friendly and relaxed. Russell listened carefully to what I wanted and within hours my hair was transformed from being dead and damaged to vibrant with volume and the color was amazing. I was also having trouble with my hair growing but ever since I started going to Davida Salon and getting my ends trimmed regularly it has grown so much and is extremely healthy. I fully trust Russell so much that I go in and just let him do his magic because I know he wouldn't let me leave without looking great and feeling confident. If you want a hair stylist that will take his time, listen, and deliver then Russell is definitely the person to go to. I started going to Davida NYC about a year and a half ago, after researching salons and stylists experienced with different hair types. I have long Indian hair that was seriously damaged from heat styling, and since going to Suleyman, it now feels and looks healthier than it's been in years. Honestly, it's like he worked magic on my hair! I'm also someone that wants to trust my stylist to guide me on what will look best on me, and Suleyman has completely earned that trust. I've only gotten my roots done so far, but I consistently get compliments about how great the color looks, even as it grows out. And the way he cuts and styles my hair? I walk out of the salon feeling confident every single time! My last visit was at their new salon in Union Square, and it's a VIBE! The space looks great - it's bigger and more open than the UES location - and the entire team is friendly and welcoming, from the front desk to the person prepping and washing my hair. I highly recommend the salon (both locations), and I can't say enough great things about my experience with Suleyman. He's the only person who's touched my hair since December 2024. read more

I stumbled upon Davida Salon in March while researching different salons around the city in hopes of finding the perfect place to get a balayge. I am very particular about color and hate brassy/orangey tones in my hair so I was super skeptical to try a new hair colorist. I booked my first appointment with Russell judging from the reviews and photos here on yelp. Once in the salon, I explained to him what I wanted and expressed my greatest fear - brassy hair. He gave me exactly what I wanted - a perfectly blended balayge and NO brassy tones. He was also great about explaining what he would be doing to achieve the look. I didn't notice breakage on my hair at all. I went back last week to add even more blonder pieces to my hair and this time with little direction, Russell knew exactly what to do. I love my balayge even more now. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. They work as a team to maximize their clients' experiences. I've also had Luz and Adriana work on my hair for blowouts and a keratin treatment... needless to say that they were great as well. I went to this beauty salon because of the reviews I saw on Google, but I was surprised that the stylist I chose, whose name is Lucy, did a terrible job. I decided on this stylist after watching the video of a chocolate-colored balayage. On the day of my appointment, I spoke with Lucy. She could see and feel my hair and said she could do it as long as I trusted her words and professionalism. When Lucy finished her work, I realized that what I chose was far from the chocolate balayage selected. Disgusted, I immediately told Lucy I wasn't comfortable, which surprised me. Lucy got upset and demanded and said that it was pretty, which it wasn't. When I went to pay, I told the cashier my displeasure and my displeasure with Lucy, who affirmed and wanted me to declare that it looked pretty and that I was uncomfortable. The cashier immediately charged $500, which I refused to pay because that was not Lucy's agreement. After a long conversation, stating my rights as a consumer, they agreed that I would spend $380 for Lucy's poorly done job. I am extraordinarily dissatisfied with this place's lack of professionalism and ethics. read more

It was my first time coloring my hair and I looked at many hair salons and hairstylists before deciding to book with Davida Salon. I liked that their Instagram page has portfolio highlights for all of the stylists' work. I loved everyone's results so I didn't book my appointment with any particular stylist. Their online booking allowed me to book an appointment for any available stylist; the process was easy and convenient for me. I also appreciated all of the reminder texts and calls as I have a pretty busy schedule. When I came to the salon, I did not have to wait long for my turn. The salon is kept clean and has adequate spacing between seats. The stylists wear masks and also encourage customers to wear masks to ensure covid precautions. The staff at the salon are friendly and have good teamwork. Bianca was my hairstylist and she was very nice and professional. I explained to her that it's my first time coloring my hair and she patiently explained everything she was doing and what it means. She worked with me to get the results I wanted. I never write reviews, but purposely signed up to yelp just to write this one to put everyone on to my new favorite salon. I couldn't be more grateful!!! Danny is one of the best colorists and stylists that I am to ever come across, and I've been through close to 100 hair dressers. I came across Davida salon after going to 2 colorists trying to do "color correction" to my hair after the first colorist (who was highly recommended to me) turned my hair from blonde, just having to do my roots, to orange. Not one colorist could fix my color. Danny not only fixed my color, but did any incredible job. I went to him twice after and am due for my color soon again. He also styled my hair, blow drying then making my whole head in beautiful curls which lasted me the whole night and for the next two days. The staff is incredibly friendly and very nice. They play great music, which is a big plus as well. They are also so attentive; asking me if I wanted water, tea, coffee, magazines, etc several times. I am so happy and lucky to have found this salon and Danny as my new hairdresser. read more

My overall experience is amazing!!! From the beginning to the end . Booking a appointment via yelp was easy, stress free. I was immediately greeted when I came in & helped out. I'm always nervous when I go to a new salon, since I usually have colored hair . I usually have to get my hair color corrected, bleached & dyed. If someone doesn't know what they're doing , they can really damage your hair . I have gone to many high end salons across nyc . I have to say hands down this salon is now my favorite. From the customer service to the artist . I was assigned to Suleyman & Rob they're so talented it's astonishing!!! I could tell that they were skilled from their technics patience & overall ethics. I have almost jet black hair and have always wanted to dye my hair silver . My hair was pretty damaged and had around 3 different colors in it . They salvaged my hair and somehow made it even more healthier .They made that possible in one sitting!!! I usually don't write reviews but I'm beyond blown away at my results. I very rarely write reviews but Davida is such a gem that it's worth writing a whole book of reviews! This is my second time going to Jenise for highlights and she is a god damn magician. I have very thick curly long hair and went in for full highlights. She is very diligent and took the time to highlight the entirety of my head to perfection without any complaints. I often times feel guilty going to salons because I know I have so much hair but Jenise easily puts me at ease with a can do, 'you have beautiful hair' attitude. She takes the time to listen to what her clients want while also considering skin tone, face complexion and the season. This is the second time I've gotten my hair done and the second time I've left feeling like the most beautiful girl in the world. Everyone at the salon is so nice and you can guarantee that you will leave with hair that you love. Everyone is so fun, real, and nice from the stylists to the assistants to the receptionists, there is no ego in this place, they just want to create a great atmosphere and beautiful hair. read more
