I had my hair colored by Vincent and although it was a great Hair lighting job, it was not the color i wanted. I asked and asked for golden highlights with a much lighter streak in the front. When it was finished I was disappointed and let him know it. He argued with me, basically telling me i was wrong that the ashy color was not ashy! I left thinking maybe there was some wrong with my eyes. However, just returned from a friend who also said "your highlights and hair looks "Ashy". Vincent does not believe he could be wrong and when i asked him if i was not happy in a few days would he fix it; he ignored me and told me it is golden. It Is NOT! So I went to Techni on a recommendation from a friend & I'm very happy with the results! I was paired up with Vincent. I explained that I had never dyed my hair (virgin hair) and adamantly refused to use bleach. He was a bit hesitant at first about getting the color I wanted without it, but he obliged. I explained that I felt like my sisters hair (similar texture) had totally changed texture & colors after bleaching & I needed it to be low maintenance. He seemed to understand well off my description and the one photo I showed him - he suggested "warm colors" & I was on board with a half head bayalage - he also, kept mentioning that the color would not be as bright without bleach - to make sure I was on board. He also stated my layers were too dramatic, so in order for the length to be better matched, he suggested a trim & thinning out my hair. I trusted his opinions on length & colors. I am super happy with how things turned out. I think this salon was efficiently run as well. Coloring your hair takes time, but there was always someone working with me, sometimes two. read more

The place was a disaster. The hair stylist was busy running around and taking calls and has his assistant that mixed the color and now my roots are red. I've mentioned that's not a hat we talked about. I wanted dark brown color. Huge mistake please don't listen to the reviews. This salon is chasing for getting as many clients and not caring about and listening to what I was telling him which I have mentioned it several times I wanted dark brown. I would give this place 6 stars if I could! I felt more comfortable with Jason than I have with any stylist since I moved to New York and that's saying a lot because it was my first time ever getting color! He did a thorough consultation, gave honest feedback on some of the pictures I had brought in, and his transparency and calm demeanor immediately calmed by nerves. The process was as enjoyable as sitting in a chair for three hours can be. Jason explained every step as he worked. Jason is the best. I followed him to his new salon from Tease. I was happy to find out that he and a few of the stylists from the old place opened their own salon. It's a cute, modern space with a cool relaxed vibe. I am VERY picky about my hair and I have been going to Jason for years. Once I find a great hair stylist I am very loyal. Jason always does a great job. He spends time discussing what you want, listening and giving suggestions on what he thinks will work for you (always a good idea to bring pics of styles you like). He does not let you leave until you are happy with your hair (he'll keep tweaking it till you love it, he is meticulous). He does amazing hilights. Affordable pricing. Hilights (partial) and cut $148. (I think a cut is $37, and cut with blowout $50). What a great group of people at Techni! Though Jason is my stylist, I have watched Carman, Kit, and Vincent working on other people for years and the finished product is always great. Everyone walks out looking awesome! She asked a good number of questions to get a sense of the history of my hair and when I showed her a picture of a blonde balayage I wanted she was honest (but hopeful) when explaining that my really dark hair might not turn out how I wanted it. But we were both pleased with how my hair turned out!!!! $160, no cut or initial shampoo and conditioner, and I tipped $30. I started here with Jason, but he moved to the new location. Full review on that page! My sister recommended me this place and it's the best. Good pricing, easygoing yet professional staff. Not a large space, but it's pleasant! Vincent is my sister's regular stylist, I see him when Jason is unavailable or when I really want to get my bangs trimmed and he's available sooner. Thorough, friendly, and very skilled. He can be a bit anxious (about cutting too much off, but not often, I'm sure someone from his old salon asked for too much off and got upset.) A friend of mine has started going there since she came in with me for a bang trim. I followed Vincent here from Tease Group down the street. A wash and cut, paid for with cash, comes in at $39 and change every time, startlingly affordable for Manhattan and for the quality. Vincent is quiet but pleasant and very, very attentive, always asking questions about the cut to make sure he gets it right. Sometimes I'm in the mood for a shorter cut and he's very careful, I really had to insist the first few times that I was trying to have short hair - he will not cut your hair too short, I know this is a big fear for people switching hairdresssers. I'm always out of the salon sooner than expected and very happy with my 'do. I've been offered free bang trims but never taken them up on it. Sometimes it takes them a bit to answer the phone but I've always been able to book and appointment for when I want it, sometimes even with very little notice. My sister and one of my best friends go here too. :) I'd really suggest this place to anyone, especially NYU students as the salon is right behind the Palladium building. read more

Great haircut and experience. Needing a new stylist I researched best in the area and realized this salon was very close to my apartment. The pictures of previous cuts are beautiful and I called to make a last minute appointment with Carman and they took me same day. (Very grateful as I was also considering a tragic home cut!) I have straight hair, but a lot of hair, and as it gets longer, it loses a lot of its movement and gets very heavy. Jason was able to cut within the hair and make my hair feel lighter while giving me subtle layers and didn't take much from the length. The movement was beautiful. I didn't got for an "extreme" hair cut the first time, but now that I had such a great experience, I can't wait to go back and get something a little bit more edgy! I am somewhere in the middle. Because my hair gets lengthy very quickly, I decided I wanted to do something different beyond the trim and long layers. My sister was due for a cut and color as well, so I took to today's source of inspiration: Instagram. I wanted something shorter and easier to maintain, but not a bob. Do you understand? When we learned that Jason had departed Tease and ventured to start up a new salon with others, I was very excited to check Techni Salon out. The fact that the world according to Yelp shows how much of a following Jason has is a good sign. The salon's vibe inside is very hip, but down to earth. The space is a little cozy, but the design behind this newly renovated space speaks to how much they invest in making sure you have an overall good experience. You feel like you're hanging out with cousins or something while you're getting just what you wished for in a coif. I showed Jason some of the aforementioned Instagram pictures and he told me exactly what he was going to do to achieve the look. While he's giving a cut, he's just a very easy person to talk to (but don't get too animated lest you move your head and your cut gets messed up). After the cut, he dried and styled my hair and IT LOOKED JUST LIKE THE PICTURES! If I could, I would come here every day to have my hair look the way it did after its cut and blowout. Okay, I'm exaggerating. And kind of not. Highly recommended obvi. They are very careful and precise with what your needs are, and are not shy about offering recommendations and advice. Yes, on hair. I asked several times if they knew how to do hair donations and offered to let them read the specific steps. Long story short, my WET hair donation (first rule to donating hair - it can't be wet or it will mold) was unusable after being cut, and I walked away with a hysterically lopsided bob. One side is half an inch shorter than the other, and my right side is cut straight across while the left side has layers that look like it was chopped with a chain saw. And I was so disappointed that my hair was been ruined after I had grown it out to donate it. If only they had just taken time to read the steps. I went back a few weeks later after my hair grew out a little longer, but they said they were going to charge me to fix the mistake they made. This is the worst haircut I have ever gotten. read more
