I had a great experience here! I'm not 100% sure if I'll return here in the future, but I was very satisfied with my haircut. My stylist took everything I said and executed perfectly. I have thin, fine hair and I feel whenever I show photos of a haircut I'm not satisfied. Instead I explained my issues and she was able to deliver without any photos! The wash, haircut and stylist was about 45 minutes and $150. In NYC, this is typical but I was actually happy with how it came out for once. The salon is small, but there wasn't anyone waiting and it didn't feel cramped. read more

Sho did an incredible job on my hair. I have a lot of long thick hair and his patience and attention to detail was amazing!

My first time visiting this salon was absolutely amazing! I got a haircut with sho, and he did an incredible job cutting and styling my hair. Due to a haircut that didn't go well at a different salon, I was a bit nervous but he was very kind and patient. Definitely recommend visiting this salon :) read more

Got an amazing haircut and blowout from Sho! He was very thorough and achieved exactly what I was looking for. Also really liked the products he used. Will definitely be my go to spot now! read more

The salon is bright and clean. I get my hair cut by Kako, who is a master of all types of hair, cuts, and styles. I followed her from her previous salon and she's well worth the longer trip. She always gives me the best cut. Kako's an interesting and fun person as well! Be sure to plan something nice to do after you get a cut from her - you'll want to show it off! read more

Sho just gave me the best haircut of my life. He's incredibly talented and kind, a true artist. I showed him a few photos and we worked out what would look best for me - nailed it, Sho!!! read more

They MIRACULOUSLY helped me get my mother-in-law in for a blow-out walk-in on a Saturday morning, when everyone else was fully booked. The staff were so sweet; they gave my MIL the scalp massage she NEEDED after we found out another salon had I booked us, and, of course, they made her gorgeous in time for our matinee show. The salon is quiet, clean, classy, well-priced--and everyone seemed to be walking out looking like the best version of themselves (not some generic version of what stylists know, like at some blowout bars). A+++++! read more

I came to this salon because I bought a deal on bloomspot.com. The deal included Balayage highlights, gloss, and blow dry. I also purchased a haircut separately. The salon is clean, quiet and calm. Everyone there is courteous and friendly. My hair looks pretty good. I left feeling beautiful and could tell that Allyn (balayage highlights and gloss) and Naoka (haircut) really cared about how my hair came out. They each approached me with a calm, and inquisitive demeanor, asking me questions about what I wanted in my hair, my lifestyle, etc, trying to get a full picture of me in order to figure out what would work best for me. My hair can be tricky because I have had many different colors in it. Allyn was patient and honest about what she was thinking the direction my hair color would go and what would work best. When my hair was being stubborn and the red would not come out, Allyn applied multiple coats of gloss, until she got the highlights to come out a golden color, instead of a brassy copper/ orange. I was not charged extra for all the extra gloss she used. Love her for that! While waiting with a pound of cotton and saran wrap on my head (balayage highlights), I looked around at the clientele. Each client that came in looked like they were upper-class, but not snooty. Heads up, there is a Dallas BBQ across the street from this location :-) I would definitely come back to lighten my hair (I trust Allyn knows what she is doing) and plan to eat some BBQ after my appointment!!! read more

I got a hair cut with Michelle and I absolutely loved it!! She did exactly what I asked for!! She gave me a great blow out, also the shampoo and conditioner she used was great!! Will definitely come back! read more

A lovely newfound spot courtesy of my amazing hair stylist and colorist who has found a chair here. The staff is incredibly helpful, patient and accommodating and the space is simple, beautiful, and super clean. Prices vary based on what you are in for, but reasonably priced in comparison to other salons I've been to. read more

This salon is a hidden gem in nyc! Seems to have very talented stylists and the owner, Takashi, is very meticulous when cutting your hair. He did an amazing job and keeps the haircut entertaining with a good conversation and gives tips at the end with how to style and take care of your hair. The staff is very friendly and attentive if you ever need anything. The pricing is a bit above average but worth it for the great service; nothing you'll regret at the end. Overall a great experience and i will definitely be back! read more

Just had my color done by Ana at Le Mino Salon. I must say I was incredibly impressed with the results! Ana did my color using Balayage technique which is different from using foils, and it has left my hair looking great. I did not get a cut, but I will definitely return to get one next time. Overall the atmosphere in the salon is very tranquil, and I was treated great. Also got a discount coupon for future services which is always a big plus! Highly recommend - you wont be disappointed! read more

I've had a few haircuts now from Takashi and I have to say they've been great. The Salon is affordable (rare in New York), low key and good. Its kinda nice to be in a place in New York that isn't too cool for school and isn't trying to force their style on you. At least Takashi (and I can't speak for other stylists) is great at his craft. Really recommend it. read more

Walked in with 2 photos of exactly what I wanted, walked out with a pretty boring haircut that looks nothing like the photos. This is at least 50% my fault because even though I was clear on what I wanted, I accepted the stylist's suggestions.. I assumed maybe he knew better than I did, or that he was about to perform some hair magic for me.. pretty sure he just simplified what I asked for and made me look 5 years older. I will not return. read more

The summer has not been kind to my processed hair. What started out as a rich auburn/chocolate base with subtle blonde highlights had turned into an awkward ombre mess after way too much sun and not-so-awesome upkeep on my part. Basically, my hair was black at the roots (my natural color), brownish in the middle, and brassy blond at the ends. Cue Allyn at Le Mino. She took about 5-10 minutes to talk to me about the color I wanted, and she was super patient while I talked myself in circles. Absolutely no condescension or attitude on her part despite the fact that it was painfully obvious that I had no idea what I was talking about. She then gave me her ideas on what she thought would look best and broke it down step by step. She never tried to push additional services or products. I had originally anticipated spending a ton on re-doing a single process and adding in highlights, but Allyn convinced me that it would be much cheaper and less upkeep to do some highlights, lowlights, and gloss. The results are really nothing short of transformative. I've gotten a bunch of complements on it just in the last day or so, and I absolutely LOVE it (the hair color more so than the complements). I will definitely keep coming back to see Allyn! read more

People keep asking so I'ma keep saying: GO TO NIKI AT LE MINO. Or go to Mino. Or go to Akiko. Or just wander in and point to your hair and say "help," because this is the spot. If Niki can make my chemically-abused hair grow into perfect pink mermaid waves, she can do right by anyone. And I've seen her work her magic on like 5 of my friends with completely different styles, so I KNOW SHE IS A GENIUS. I feel like I've been here enough times that I can attest for everyone who works here as being so friendly and talented and wonderful and I want to hug them all. Especially Naoko. MOST IMPORTANTLY, NIKI IS AWESOME!!! And this salon is the spot and the entire staff is so lovely and friendly. You should go and then you can send me a thank you fruit basket later. You're welcome. read more

I didn't know anything about this salon until I purchased a Buy With Me deal. Since my first trip (about two weeks ago), I've already been back! Allyn gave me a GREAT gloss. I had horrible, grown-out blonde highlights that started about halfway down my head. My natural hair color, which is auburn-y, is hard to reproduce. But she nailed the color and gave me a beautiful gloss that made the yucky old highlights disappear. I'm a redhead again! I also got a haircut from Tommy - he was very sweet, very thorough, and did a great job. I think their services (even without a deal) are affordable, relative to what other salons in the area charge. I will definitely be back again. read more

Came in as a model for Naoko. My haircuts are typically long layers- I came in with a curved shape for my length and angle layers. She listened to what I wanted- just a touch up, length taken off, and some face framing layers. Added lots of shape and movement to my hair while still keeping it fairly simple. Naoko is very friendly and very inquisitive- she pays attention to detail and is very precise about her work. As a model the haircut took about two hours and I'm well aware of this and have received several other model haircuts in the NYC area that take just as long if not longer. I walked out with a fantastic cut and blowout. Mino oversaw the entire cut and added in helping suggestions as needed. read more

I came here as a hair model for Naoko. I showed her a picture of what I want and she explained to me that my hair type is different but she'll do something similar. The haircut was very meticulous and she was very careful at every step. Needless to say, there was a ton of attention to detail. The end result was fantastic and I was more than happy with my haircut. I came here several times and every time left with a fantastic result. The salon is very clean, quiet, and the experience is an extremely relaxing one. I was treated very well and everyone was exceptionally nice. I recommended my sister come in as a model as well and her result was unbelievable. This was the first salon to tell her the hairstyle she's been getting doesn't work with her hair type. Overall, I think the staff here is professional and definitely know what they're doing. read more

Booked "baliyage & cut" TWO MONTHS IN ADVANCE. in less than 24 hours they let me know that the colorist quit. Two weeks before my scheduled appointment. I would not be as pissed off if only I: a) planned in advance b) intended to that before I leave for vacation c) anyone would care to let me know 2 weeks in advance. read more

Great Buy With Me featured business! I recently took a gamble on getting half highlights for the first time at a new salon and am beyond happy with the results and the great job Allyn and Sam did with color and blowout (not an easy job as I have thick, curly hair), not to mention the salon's ability to accommodate me within one day and take me immediately after I walked through their doors. I will be back for highlights again and contemplating the Brazilian Keratin treatment in the near future, even it means paying their regular prices. It's worth the splurge. Definitely a well kept secret and so happy I found them. Thank you Le Mino! read more

Takashi was at a top salon, but I followed him here: he is a very talented hair stylist. I have been going for years to top salons here in the city, and he ranks up there as one of the best. And a nice, very kind and gentle person as well. read more

Amazing cut from takashi - gave me exactly what I asked for. Nice salon and great location. Will definitely be going back. 10/10

I got a deal for this place. It felt very nice to be the only customer. I went there on Monday and it turns out to be their day for dealing with papers. But they very nicely took me. My main request was to cut my hair so that I get rid of split ends. His work seemed very thorough. An hour and a half long - impressive. So I was very disappointed when back at home I saw that half the split ends were still there. I guess he should nave cut my hair shorter. But generally it's a very nice place. read more

Always walk out of there feeling like a million bucks! I like that it takes time, there is no rush.....he could really focus and carefully design my cut! (I get long layers) Tommy is top notch! I highly recommend him as a stylist. I have travelled to NYC just to see him since I moved to Dallas and then Seattle. I will keep coming back! People literally stop and ask me on the streets where I got my haircut!? :) That's a good sign, no? read more

Takashi is the best!! Such a talented artist, he puts a lot of thought and passion into whatever he's doing not to mention his vision about hair is in another level, the staff is wonderful, the salon is beautiful with a very peaceful environment, their hair treatments are a must ! My second haircut since moving to New York. The first, at another establishment, was a complete disaster and made me look like I did back in the 6th grade - one of the Hanson brothers. Thankfully, Tommy meticulously cut strand after strand, framing my face and giving me a haircut I love. Along the way, he would ask about my hair routine and offered up advice that did not involve any up-selling, just useful information. I went here based on a deal I bought through Refinery 29's Reserve, but will be back regardless. So glad I found my salon in the city and it only took one bad haircut! read more

I followed Gabriella here from her last salon, Christiano Cora. I first found her through a friend's referral last Spring, and am so happy with her cuts, and ESPECIALLY color! I had been coloring my own hair with professional products (roots, balayage) for a few years, but with my % of grey increasing, I wasn't able to lift my dark brown hair anymore the same way, and was very unhappy with my too dark, flat color..which used to be really pretty! I needed a FULL color correct/overhaul, which involved many steps. Before we began Gabriella carefully listened and understood my vision (I am an Artist, and VERY particular), and it came out better than I could have imagined! She recommended a new, lighter root touch up color that works so much better for my skin tone. She cleaned up my ends/shaped my long layers back to the style I had before a few hairdressers cut them in ways which did not work for my hair texture. Since then, I have seen her 2x, once for a trim and a few highlights to brighten around my face (LOVED it, again!), and more recently for the first time at Le Mino-which is a cute little salon in a great location in the West Village. I was terrified to make a change for years, had long hair since High School (20+ years), and decided to go for a "Lob"- the long bob. That's about 7" off the back, and about 4" off the front! I was so nervous I actually got sick on the way there!! Gabriella immediately calmed me down and I felt confident I would be happy with the results-and again-she knocked it out of the park! Also, my much lighter color, perfection! She's excellent at placing the appropriate highlights to flatter the style, and the tones are so warm, and varied. I also did a one of their Japanese hair treatments (Milbon, Nigelle HY or Inphenome), I forget which..but it really changed my dry dull hair texture and they send you off with 4 treatments to take home. Affordable (for NYC), and excellent, thank you Gabriella and Le Mino! read more

matono salon - Gabriella's lob, chopped about 7" and awesome new bayalage! - Hair Salons Near Me - New York, New York

So, let me first start off by saying that I take 50% responsibility for my bad experience at Le Mino. First, I got completely and totally tricked, of my own volition. I was coming off working a night shift and feeling harassed as I picked up some vegetables and some dude in the middle of Union Square convinced me to buy a pseudo-groupon to Le Mino salon. I was so desperate for a haircut, sleep deprived and insane feeling, I thought this was a good idea and gave him my credit card to swipe on his Square. Yes, I know I'm an idiot. I show up to the salon and am informed that because I did not bring my physical pseudo-groupon, I cannot use it. Fine. That's on me. I tell them I just want to get a regular haircut instead; Naoko is my stylist. Let me preface this by saying that she is incredibly nice and a sweetheart of a person. In fact, I'm consumed with guilt writing this review. But still sad enough about my haircut to write it. We talk specifically about what I want -- long lob, layers but nothing too crazy and texture. I show her pictures. We get started. She washes my hair and no complaints there. Then she starts cutting and I can tell this is going terrible places fast. You know how you marvel at how stylists can maneuver hair super deftly and it feels like they have seven hands? This was the opposite of that. She awkwardly held up pieces of my hair and snipped a little and then dropped some hair and then put a clip on that didn't actually hold any hair up. An hour later, I have a little girl bob, with a face framing in the front and my hair is hanging limply around my face, despite getting blown out. So basically the opposite of what I wanted. In fact, I'm so disappointed by my haircut I'm forfeiting my groupon that I couldn't use because I just don't want to go back despite having paid for it already. Sunk costs. I can't reiterate enough that everyone was so nice to me there and maybe it's just me and I am a neurotic human being when it comes to my hair. Maybe I should stop buying groupons in Union Square from strangers. read more

I went to Allyn. She was warm, talented, a great listener, and caring stylist. The salon is cute and quiet. The only thing their missing is the complimentary coffee or wine! Loved my experience here and will certainly return. UPDATE: So, I went a second time and Allyn did a great job with my highlights again. THis time I also got a cut from Tommy and I loved him almost as much as I love my cut. He's got a great ear and a great eye. Great salon witrh talented stylists. A1! read more

Got a Bloomspot coupon for cut and amino treatment and went on a Saturday afternoon asking for an angled bob. The amino treatment took 20 minutes and later that day people definitely commented on how shiny my hair looked! My hairdresser Joseph then spent 2 hours on my hair cut getting it exactly how I wanted. He was meticulous about getting information from me to make sure he knew what I had in mind, letting me know what he was doing and why throughout the cut, and being really precise about perfecting the shape of the bob. Will definitely go back! read more

This was perhaps the best haircut I've received in New York City in over a decade. Naoka Hasegawa cut my hair and despite the fact that I was there with a BLOOMSPOT promotion ($55 dollars for a cut and nano treatment) she treated me as if I were a client paying full price for her care and expertise. I have a short bob and she transformed my cut and repaired the sloppy cut that I had received a month before which I was convinced was doomed to "grow out on it own". Excellent customer service, very relaxed space, professional stylists. I walked out of Le Mino feeling like a rockstar. Go with confidence that they will make sure you love the way you look. They know how to cut hair with a scissor, not a razor or flashy hand movements which are so popular at other salons where they just enjoy seeing your hair on the floor. Wow. Everyone noticed my haircut. Everyone. read more

It was my second time there. I'm giving this place 3 stars because the first time was amazing. I got a haircut and partial highlights which turned out great. So I went there the second time to lighten and even my hair color. Allyn took her time talking to me about different options. At the end we agreed to do two glosses to even out the color. She said it would solve the problem. When the two glosses were done I was very disappointed as it did not do anything at all! So she did partial highlights afterwards that gave me a little bit warmer look here and there but again did not even out the tone and she did not touch my black roots either. So at the end of the procedure I felt very disappointed spending $250 on something that left my hair looking absolutely the same as before... read more

I really love this salon. I live in the West Village and I stopped by for a blow out before an event once and now I always come here. I wish I had wrote about it after the first time. Tommy and Sam give the best blow outs!!!! They are both so sweet and fun and I leave feeling like I have really hot hair! The prices are great and I'm a student, so I get a student discount. I try to book my appointments but I trust everybody there so sometimes I'll just walk in and it's always perfect. Love! read more

I love this place! Very reasonable spot in NYC with the highest quality service! Allyn does my color (blond) and she is awesome! Listened to exactly what I wanted (low-upkeep highlights/ color) and did a perfect job! I've been back 3 times since... and everyone compliments my hair... The cuts are AMAZING! Both Tommy and Sam are great. They take such care with each snip... they definitely take their time with the haircut to make it perfect. Just a heads up- the salon is very low-key and minimalistic. Don't go looking for a beautiful spa retreat... but that's what keeps the prices reasonable! I'm a huge fan! read more

Luiz is the best and does magic with hair! would highly recommend this salon and seeing him!!

I got a deal for a haircut and NanoAmino treatment at this place. I desperately needed a haircut since it's summer and my hair is long. My hair came out looking great and the treatment really made my hair smooth, soft, and silky. Usually after a haircut my hair is on the poufy side since it was just washed, but this time I walked out with my hair beautifully sleek. It's been a week since my visit and my hair is still smooth and fabulous. read more

I have received three amazing haircuts here from Tommy - I can't recommend him enough. I have fine, not particularly thick hair, and he managed to give me a beautiful bob with lots of volume and movement. I've been getting compliments from strangers on the street, asking me who my hair dresser is. He listens carefully to what you want and cuts your hair meticulously. He really understands how different people's hair grows and how to work with it to get it to do what you want. Plus he's lovely! I'm leaving New York and am very sad to have to find a new hair stylist. Thanks for the great cuts Tommy! read more
