I just moved to NYC a few months ago and needed to find a hair stylist! Two people recommended this salon in a FB group so I made an appointment. Misora was clearly knowledgeable about hair, was so fun to talk with, and always made sure i was comfortable plus did a great job on my hair! As far as NYC pricing goes, this is pretty decent as this is what I paid in Florida! So thrilled and excited to come back!

Incredible subtle balayage by Hisae!!! The best!!!
    Chelsea C.

Here for my yearly update: Hisae is incredible, my hair always looks and feel so much better. Even when I can't verbalize exactly what I want, she listens, gives input and then makes absolute magic - you need to come see her!!! Update: Hisae is literally a color magician- after being traumatized many times with other people trying to go lighter, I finally LOVE my hair!!! Not only is it dynamic and beautifully done, but somehow it's still so healthy! I'm constantly complimented and asked where I got my color Love her so much and highly suggest you see her if you're looking for cut/color!!! Had the most wonderful experience with Hisae! After the conditioning treatment and cut my hair feels and looks incredible. She took her time and kept me informed on everything she was doing. I was unsure of exactly what style cut I wanted but Hisae gave great input and I'm so happy with the result. The decor was lovely and the atmosphere in the salon was so friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend :)

First time here yesterday, and was referred by a friend to ask for Misora. I was hesitant since I hadn't dyed my hair in about 5 years maybe more. Misora was extremely knowledgeable, explained what would be the best process and what colors would work best for my hair while still giving me what I wanted (a balayage and a cut) and made me feel less nervous about such a big change, for me. she was professional, friendly, and walked me through every step of the process, explaining what she was doing and why it was important. She gave me tips on how to maintain my hair to keep it from fading. Finally when it came for my cut she was quick and I got EXACTLY what I wanted. And so affordable considering all the work I got done and being in the city. I definitely found my new salon.

    Haircut by Shohei (Shawn)

I am so sorry for the low lighting which doesn't do it justice, but I got my hair cut by Shohei (Shawn), who did a great job. I think like many women with long hair, I am very protective of mine. It was 8 months since my last haircut, so I knew I really needed to take off some inches--I just told Shohei to do what he thought was best and try to keep it long. He was really careful and did not take off more than necessary. I have thick, frizzy hair, and I usually just wash it and go. The cut falls great and looks nice even without the blowout. Also, as others have mentioned, the staff here is really nice in general, plus there's tea and a nice head massage when they wash your hair. And the price is probably the best in NYC (I paid about $70 before tip which makes sense for the length/thickness of my hair). Thank you SO much to Shohei for being respectful of the length I requested and following the reference photos that I brought in, and thank you to Dlala for offering affordable haircuts in this very expensive city. I will be back here for sure!

This is a long overdue review, as I've been going to Dlala for years - but this was after years of trying to find a good and affordable salon in NYC and failing miserably. Dlala is truly a treasure. I normally see Yutaka, who is a really awesome person on top of being a great stylist. My hair is thin and fine and flat and boring, but he always makes it look chic and luxurious. Recently I saw Mariko and she was phenomenal as well, and really engaging. And the haircuts are only $60! In NYC! Go to Dlala, don't hesitate.

I go to Misora for double process for Asian hair and she's great. Great attitude, attention to detail, and always on time and informative. She listens to what you are looking for. And prices are extremely reasonable.

    Hair by Junya's magical touch!
    Esther T.

What a breath of fresh air and relief... to find a salon.. in NYC that knows how to work magic on my HAIR! I'm half puerto-rican and korean with naturally wavy + THICK hair. Not only did JUNYA know how to layer my hair but he thinned it out so it wasn't as top heavy. There are SO many salons in NYC with so many rave reviews that don't deliver. I can tell you whole heartedly that Junya is AMAZING x100. I posted a picture... and proof is in the pudding ladies and gents. Don't waste your time on these fu-fu salons that are $150+ a cut! Go see Junya and let him use his magical hands of perfection. **Cash tip only**

    Junya's amazing work!

After my stylist at Cutler Salon left NYC for LA...1 year ago, I finally...finally was emotionally ready for a new stylist to cut my hair. After much research, toiling over yelp reviews for different salons I was looking to combine value with talent! I realized quickly that most salons would charge over $100 for a haircut for my super long hair...then I stumbled upon Dlala reviews. THANK YOU FELLOW YELPERS! For posting pictures and with such great reviews - I knew that I was making the right choice. On a bright sunny Tuesday morning I met Junya! A talented artist who worked his magic in my hair by first dry cutting my hair and being so meticulous all the while listening to all my concerns regarding the texture and styling of my hair. He then washed my hair with an amazing scalp massage and then blow dried and styled my hair, double, triple checking his work....all for a total of $73!! One of my biggest issues as always been keeping the length of my hair while updating my layers, to most stylist that translates taking off a lot of length - but that was NOT the case with Junya! He preserved the length of my hair while updating my look and giving me styling tips and tricks along the way. As I was sitting there admiring my updated cut, I looked around and saw the work of other stylists as well and everyone just looked phenomenal! I highly recommend this neighborhood treasure!

Excellent haircut from Mariko. Anyone who can get this kind of texture out of my fine hair (& this is air-dried!) is a magician.
    Anna D.

I saw Mariko Osanai for haircuts and color faithfully for more than two years, and even though her current schedule (weekends only) doesn't mesh with mine, I have nothing but good things to say about her--and about Dlala on the whole. The first time I went to Mariko it was to get a drastic haircut the involved partial head-shaving. I'm pretty fearless when it comes to hair, but I knew I needed to see someone who understood the look I was going for, and knew what to do with my fine, soft hair in order to give it the texture it needed to carry off the cut. Mariko was recommended to me by a friend of a friend, and I am forever grateful. Mariko has given me lots of different looks, and has always nailed exactly what I was going for. Same goes for color--whether it's a simple dark brown or high-contrast ombre, she always hits the mark. She is careful and precise, but doesn't hold back when drama is needed. Aside from the amazing haircuts, Mariko is a great person to be around. She is so kind and so attentive, and the entire salon is totally free from pretension. I loved going to Dlala, and hope to be able to go back again someday.

Appointments became rushed, started late, and lacked even basic professionalism. You're barely greeted when you walk in, and the overall tone makes it feel like you're inconveniencing them just by being there. I told them multiple times I had a head injury from a concussion and the lack of care was very concerning how abrasively they washed and handled my head. My most recent appointment was a complete failure. I asked for a warm, golden brown and came prepared with multiple reference photos. While the color was processing, I clearly flagged that it was pulling purple. That concern was dismissed, and the product was left on longer. The result was the darkest my hair has ever been, almost black with a cool, purple hue. The exact opposite of what I requested. The color job is all mismatched, the lower part of my hair significantly darker, the roots are sloppy and uneven. When I pointed this out, the response was defensive and dismissive. At one point, I was sarcastically asked if I wanted to "bleach it," which is an inappropriate and careless suggestion for already fine hair. It was mind blowing to have this handled so poorly and then be rushed through a cut that does not look anywhere close to the quality of the past cuts. I followed up requesting a refund, given that this will take months to correct and fade, and received no response for over 48 hours. It's not even about the money - it's about the severe lack of respect. What's most surprising is that this level of defensiveness and lack of accountability was unacceptable, especially after such a grave mistake. Instead of thoughtful adjustment and ownership, the response was dismissive in the moment and silent afterward. Mistakes happen. How they're handled is what defines a business. This was not handled well. NYC has no shortage of salons that can deliver both technical skill and professionalism. This is not one of them. Updating this with a pic and additional NYC HAIR SALON SEO terms so future customers are warned since the salon has decided to block me after no satisfactory resolution. The pic at the top right was me pre-hair f*** up. Only come to this salon if you'd like to come home and cry.
