Do NOT come here if you love your hair. I asked for a TRIM just clean up the ends. She verified with me held up just my ends and the proceeded to cut 3 inches off. To make matters worse one side of my hair is shorter than the other. The first photo is my hair before. Now I'm going to have to pay upwards of 1000 to get extensions to cover this up. And after speaking to the owners they did nothing to help or fix the situation. read more

I used the online portal to schedule an appointment for 2:40p in the evening for a cut, a shave, & my first time coloring my hair. It automatically scheduled for my hair to be dyed first, and cut/shave after, and I couldn't change the order of this through their portal. I was called and asked to email photos of the style & color of the cut I wanted. So I did. The next day I was called again & patronized that I messed up the appointment, and that I would need to do this in reverse order, and to change my appointment to an earlier time (1p) to make sure that the right staff was in house for my needs. I took off work earlier so that I could make the appointment. My hair-cut was ok, my shave left pretty intense razor burn on my neck, and I had to advocate for myself several times to the colorist that I wanted lavender color, not blue. Without my consent the colorist tested a lock of my hair with blue anyway, showed me a picture and attempted to gaslight me into accepting blue hair instead because "purple is in the blue family." When I calmly expressed frustration and said that if they do not have the color I requested, it's no problem I can go somewhere else, the colorist told me that I was having a big reaction. I waved over the hostess and she was able to take the colorist into the back and return with a $10 semi-permanent hair dye of the color I requested. When I got to the counter, I was told that I would get a 10% discount for the trouble, then I was told that my card was already charged, and that they could not apply a discount, and instead gave me an inexpensive bottle of shampoo as a consolation prize. They further attempted to gaslight me, telling me that they're just glad that I am leaving happy directly after I told them that I am leaving frustrated. The same barber & colorist was present and available during my exit, proving that they would have been able to hold my originally scheduled time in the first place. As bisexual non-binary who has PTSD from growing up in oppressive religious MidWest being told their favorite color was blue because "it's a boy color"... this experience was disappointing at its very best, and mortifying at its worst considering I can't look in the mirror without reliving a traumatic childhood. Will advocate against anyone visiting this place unless they take steps to make this right. read more

I went in for a shampoo only because I'd spent a week in the hospital and my hair was extremely matted up in the back, which I couldn't fix at home. On the phone I stressed that I needed someone to just take their time to tease out all of the tangles, because it was a huge knotted mess but my hair had been previously healthy and I think it could be worked out with some TLC. The lady I got basically mauled me with a big brush and acted condescending and mean when I asked her repeatedly to stop tearing through my hair. She was brushing it hard and fast and I could HEAR AND FEEL IT BREAKING and I kept asking her to work through it slowly, since that's the only reason I came in. She was dismissive and impatient and didn't listen to me at all so I got up to leave with my hair barely half done. The other lady who had been working the front desk stopped me from leaving and had me sit down and actually worked through the tangles gently. She was wonderful, unfortunately I do not remember her name, but I hope she sees this and knows that she's a great person. I wasn't sure what rating to give since if it was FOR that first woman it would be 1/5 but the second woman who spent time and was gentle was 5/5. Just remember, if someone is ripping at your hair and undoing years of growing it out, don't just let it happen! Get out of that salon chair and find someone who will listen to you. The salon was clean. Please checkout their website for a wide range of services they offer. I went for a make over. I had shoulder length hair. Thanks to Refine Salons, I now have really cute short hair. I was nervous how it would turn out. Antonio worked on my hair. He has 43 years of experience in the industry. Right off the bat, he analyzed my hair and suggested ways I could improve texture, walked me through some of the crucial aspects where I could be mishandling my hair and suggested great tips, including styling tips I could implement. Do yourself a favor and did not come here! The place is a disaster. I arrived for my appointment with Tiffany upstairs who when I went upstairs was sprawled out on the couch talking to a colleague. She puts me sitting on a chair that is covered with cut hair all around the floor around it. There was lots of hair on the chair itself. Also I had to kick the hair away from around the chair on the floor. I had never seen a salon as dirty in my life. She made zero attempt to clean her work area. I have rarely seen somebody as lazy as this in the service industry. I was getting a color and she told me she would leave it in 40/45 mins for it to set. She came back 15 minutes later to wash out the color. She did not leave the color in long enough and none of the color stayed in. What a joke she was! Then when she was was washing out the color, her colleague who was there when I walked in was constantly talking to her while she was washing it out and they would not stop talking the whole time. As she was yapping she was putting the water down my back as she kept looking at her colleague as she was talking to her. A lot of the color was left on my forehead and the back of my ears. She said 'you can get apple cider vinegar tonight to wash the hair color from my forehead and ears'. What a complete and utter amateur who had zero interest in her job. She was the most incompetent hair stylist I have ever come across. People, please keep away from this salon. To say it's bad is an understatement! read more

The price was very reasonable for NYC metro area, actually one of the "cheaper" professional options in JC area. My only feedback is the salon itself is a bit "boring". All I can say is WOW! Elva Ortiz did a fantastic job on my hair! She listened to everything I wanted and made it better than I had imagined :) and she was just so gentle with my hair and took her time and checked with me about the length and I could not be happier! I've finalllly found my hair place in jersey city!! I also got my eyebrows done and they turned out great! Not thin and just clean! Also, the salon has been designed for social distancing during these covid times! Everyone was wearing masks, there was hand sanitizer at the front desk, you get your own stall with its own sink to wash your hair.
