This place is ... a gem! I used Yelp to book, received a response in about ten minutes. I was able to get a saw day appt for base color, toner refresh on the bottoms of my hair and a couple of foils for face framing highlights. I was there for about 3 hours or so on a Saturday which I have to say is not bad. The place is busy! Full service - men's and women's hair salon with threading available. I mean... I'll be here for a long while ladies! I fully recommend it. The two stylists, Michael and Stefany speak hair. They can offer valuable suggestions about your requested look. They are honest about what will work or not... they will cut only what you ask! 1/2 inch means 1/2 inch trim. I have long hair and even though cutting more than the inch I asked for wouldn't have looked terrible... they still did what I requested. They clearly know what they're doing when it comes to hair. Already looking forward to a trim and touch up for spring! Highly suggest this place everyone! I'd rate 20 stars if I could. The vibe is easy in there, staff is happy and professional and they make you feel as if you're family. read more

For the price point they honestly offer a great service! Parking is difficult and inconvenient but it is a busy area. For a 1-inch dead end cut, slight face frame, blow out/straighten and shampoo/wash was $75. The head massage during the shampoo/wash was incredible! I was so impressed at the level of service given. I was not expecting much but they were excellent! I'm not sure about their coloring or other services. For a basic request and fabulous blow out they really fit the bill. Service was friendly and accomodating. I will definitely come back. read more

I came here based on a recommendation by a friend! The street is extremely busy especially if you come during the weekend so parking will be a bit difficult to find. I booked an appointment with Stephanie since my friend recommended her, but after I arrived, I saw Stephanie was still working with another client. The receptionist didn't give me an ETA on how long the wait will be - just told me to sit down and wait. I waited for about 30 minutes and saw that Stephanie was still working on her client and not close to being finished. I think this is quite disappointing especially since I booked an appointment previously and arrived on time. I get the push back if previous clients arrive later than their scheduled appointment, but it causes a domino effect for the later clients. Some people just don't have an extra hour floating around to wait for their haircut- that's why we book our haircuts in advance. As this was my first time coming here, it was quite a bad first impression in terms of timing. I eventually got my haircut done by Natalia who was amazing and super attentive. She was very detail oriented and made sure that my cut was even on both sides. I also showed her pictures for reference and she met every bit of expectations I had. I trusted her on the length of my hair and bangs based on what she thinks would look best on me, and she didn't let me down. I loved my haircut - I was going for a completely different style than I was used to so I was nervous, but Natalia did such a great job with the cut. Overall, my experience with Natalia was lovely, I was genuinely happy with her attentiveness and professionalism. I understand that weekends are busy for them, but there really is no point of an appointment if I'm not going to get my haircut on time or even within 30 minutes of waiting. If you plan on coming here, I'd recommend going on a weekday since they shouldn't be as busy. read more

I went last week on a whim because I realized my ends were pretty dead. I left with the best haircut of my LIFE. I can't believe how skilled their stylists are and the head massage was absolutely lovely too. Priced more than fairly given how fantastic the cut was. I never write reviews but I have to just shout out Venus Salon. Thank you! read more

The stylist did a great job with the hair coloring however the haircut wasn't what i wanted. I tried to explain to Mike what I wanted and he walked away and said "i wont be the one cutting your hair". He could've listened to what i wanted and translated with the older lady hair stylist but chose not to. I did also notice that he was giving more attention to the white customers and even having conversations with them. Customer service could be better. read more

I'll admit that I was never faithful to a hair salon. I just never found "The One" ya know ? Until now !! : ) Mike was amazing!! I don't know much about hair styles but I described what I wanted to him and he listened and gave me his professional opinion on what would work best for me! (He knows his stuff!) I listened and I'm glad I did because I am in love with my hair cut! I've never been this happy about a cut before ! So I recommend 100% ! My hair was dull, damaged, and dry! Now it's healthy, full, and pretty!! I'll definitely be coming here from now on! read more

Pictures say enough. Hair stylist used the scissors twice during the whole 7 minute haircut. Gashed my face up with an old blunt razor and my neck feels like it was run up with sand paper. Has me doubting the hygiene of the salon and the cleanliness of the equipment. read more

After reading the great reviews on yelp I decided to give this place a try. I called and requested some information on price, availability etc. The gentleman on the phone was very nice and answered all my questions. When I walked in a nice lady (Stephanie) greeted me and immediately took my daughter to wash her hair. My 7 year old loved how gentle she was. After the hair wash, I showed her a few pictures of how I wanted her hair to be (a long bob) wow! I was super impressed by the amazing cut she gave my daughter. She was meticulous and gave aher a great blow out. She also worked on my 3 year old's first haircut. My daughter has been adamant about NOT cutting her long locks. Stephanie was patient and gentle with her the entire time. She recommended giving her some layers and keeping her hair long. My 3 year old loved the outcome! We're from NYC, and will be returning here for their haircuts. As we were leaving my older daughter mentioned that she hopes Stephanie will always cut her hair. Thank you Venus salon for providing us such great service !!! read more

This was my first time at Venus and I cannot say enough good things about this place. The staff is super friendly, the place is clean, and it's an affordable place. It's the NYC top salon experience without having to pay a NYC rent. Mike is AMAZING! He brought my dreams to reality today. At my consultation, he listened carefully to what I wanted and made recommendations based on my hair. Asian hair is not easy to work with, let alone Asian hair that's undergone bleaching twice already. The day of, Mike accommodated everything I was requesting. He took care of my hair as if it were his own. I got a great haircut to clean up my dead ends. And my color turned out so beautifully! I'm so happy with my new look. Thanks, Mike!! read more

Had an appointment, checked in and was told to sit. Waited 30 mins, no one acknowledged me or even let me know I'd have a long wait. I walked out front and still no one came over too address me so I left. Very unprofessional, someone could've at least let me know I'd have a long wait. It was not crowded. Lesson learned. To post I had to put a star but that's underserved. First and last time there. read more

I got the worst haircut ever at this salon. I came in with long hair but wanted to get shoulder length hair and asked for some layers. The Hispanic woman in this salon cut my hair and left it looking like a disaster. I had to come back to get it "fixed" by someone else but it still looks terrible. It was very obvious to them that the cut was horrible since they saw it but didn't even offer giving a refund for such a terrible cut. Im waiting for my hair to grow long enough to get a PROPER cut elsewhere. Save your money and go to someone who you TRUST with your hair. I'm never coming back here again. My answer for the owner: Yes, it was this salon, Venus Salon, that I went to. It is not a mistake. read more

I made a same- day appointment with Michael, didn't have to wait for my turn, had a great hair wash+ massage and an excellent hair cut. Michael took time to understand what I like and what will suit my face - cut. He did the cut in steps while evaluating the outcome after every major move on my hair. The result was a cut that complemented my face and is easy to maintain. I will definitely go back. I recommend this salon ( and the hair stylist Michael). Also, the prices are very reasonable and their overall service is great. read more

Found this salon on yelp. Mike is the best! She did my mom's hair color, and it was amazing! Going back there next Saturday for a balayage. Will post pic of that once done :) Shekieta did my nails, and she's amazing as well! Looks like i have a new place to go for my nails and hair. So updated review: Had my balayage hair finally done. Took about 4 hours supposed to be 3 but i asked him to darken it some more, so took another hour to do that. Service is great, I'm satisfied with my hair. Added pics of the result. This is a great place to have hair and nails done definitely without breaking the bank. Take note tho if you have your hair blow out after coloring, it'll be an extra $25. read more

I live around the area and I usually pay no attention to the places around me. Buy I walked in at this salon to make an appointment. I wanted to to light for summer but I had pitch black hair. See, I know hair myself and just having a convo with Mike, I knew I'll be in good hands. On the day of the appointment, it was busy so Ana ended up doing my hair. She was really careful not to damage my healthy hair so I went light in 2 sessions. I love my new hair! Mike and Ana are skilled hair stylists! Whether it haircut or hair color you're going in for, they got you covered. I also got a full body each from there. Uhm, my skin is extra sensitive that my back and arm broke out. Also, the Brazilian is a pain because they do not use dry wax. They use sticky wax and cloth to pull, which isn't advised for any areas with thin skin. I've gone for a second time but this time just my legs and bikini area. She was really thorough, making sure she got all the hair! read more

Today I have come across a Barbar in Venus salon which is in JFK Blvd he literally ruined my day by giving me a useless haircut it seems like he didn't know the basics of haircut and he has finished it in 5 minutes and he was in a rush to take another person and it's all been a mess, if you don't know how to do it then don't do it or at least learn how to do it because if you wouldn't do it properly you would get your money anyway but you ruin someone's looks and you can't bring it back for a while and he needs to deal with it for a while, please don't do it if you don't know it read more

Love Venus Salon. The owner, Mike is a pleasant, really nice guy and I always have great conversation with him while he cuts my hair. The place is clean, quiet and affordable and even after I moved a little farther away, I continued going to Venus. By far one of the best decisions I made was to walk into this hair salon. The other was to chop off all my damaged hair from years of extreme dyeing from blonde to red to brown to black and even green. My hair was literally hay texture at the ends and the damage kept creeping up no matter how many treatments or frequent trims. Michael. Michael with the magic hands. Literally Mr. Edward Scissorhands. I love... no I LOVE MY NEW HAIRCUT!! Michael knew exactly what I wanted and what I needed (to save my hair from the damage) and executed it perfectly. Very professional staff. Fast service and beyond reasonable prices. Truly a wonderful experience! Can't wait to go back to continue to get my hair back into perfect shape. THANK YOU MICHAEL and THANK YOU VENUS HAIR SALON! Highly recommended!!! Bring pictures of what you want and he'll tell you exactly what will work for your face, style and needs. Second time going here for a women's haircut. I usually just do a simple trim so I can't speak on anything more complicated than that like layers etc. I'm always in and out within 30-40 minutes and happy with the trim as well as the price. I have lived in Jersey City 14 years and still go home to Canada to get my hair cut! I know it's crazy, but I had yet to find a good salon I trusted. So, when in a pinch I went to Venus salon yesterday and was extremely pleased....with everything! Firstly, Mike, the owner, is super friendly and accommodated my schedule request for an after work appointment. It was quite easy to schedule. I parked in the parking garage up the street and headed over. I was greeted with a smile and taken right back to wash my hair. Mike listened to what I wanted, asked me a few questions and got to work! The result? I love my hair! He did a beautiful job and I left confident that I have now found my go-to salon! Thank-you for a great experience! It's a challenge to find a place that understands my coarse unruly hair without breaking the bank! Look no further, this is it! read more

So good. I just happened to pick this salon because it was close to my apartment with good reviews and I am so happy to have found a spot just 5 minutes away that does awesome work. I came in for a cut so I can't speak on dye but, everyone really knew their stuff. I felt super comfortable and Mike is awesome. I've been having a lot of trouble finding a new hair stylist, and feel like I found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow over here. In less than 20 minutes, Michael gave me one of the best haircuts I've ever had. Then he had the audacity to apologize for how quickly he was going - dude, I've sat in salon chairs for hours for cuts half the quality, and paid three times as much! Meanwhile, I can't stop staring at myself in every reflection, and FaceTiming everyone I know to show them. And researching how I want to color, because I can't wait to make another appointment. HIGHLY recommended. read more

I have had about 4 haircuts here and had a previous review up which gave 5 stars so why the change? Well I do have to say that my last haircut did leave me a little concerned about the cleanliness of the equipment used. I do notice that the electric razor does not appear to be cleaned between cuts. My last haircut I think I received a small cut on the back of my neck which became very red and irritated. Now I do like the haircuts I receive here and the stylist is very personable so I will give them another chance. However I do advise them to pay more attention to the sterility of the equipment as this seems to also have been a problem for another reviewer on here so I can't see it as an isolated incident. This could lead to serious issues down the road. I do have pics of the back of my scalp which I will share if requested. read more

It seems like this place gets rave reviews for their hair styling. I didn't get my hair done but I got to witness a few clients walk in and leave with absolutely fabulous hair. I went in for a mani/pedi and decided to add on a facial! I didn't need an appointment. The facial was Everything!! She took her time and made sure she got every possible extraction. I may or may not have cried a few times but hey, Beauty is Pain. It had been quite a while since my last facial so my skin was in desperate need of attention. My face felt so clean and smooth afterwards. The mani/pedi however was disappointing. She was extremely rough around my cuticles and clipped the skin so deep that it burned. Also when polishing she didn't cover the entire nail. After she finished, it literally looked like my nails had already grown out for a week and the polish started chipping within a few hours. They offer quite a few services but I'd recommend that you find another place to get your nails done. Be sure to grab a flier at the check-in desk to receive 20% off select services read more

Went to this salon since it was near me and they accepted walk ins. The salon is clean and everyone is very nice. I wasn't too happy with my haircut. I had asked to get 8 inches cut off and layers. The lady who cut my hair was sweet but it was so uneven. The left side was two inches longer than the right side. And the layers were choppy and not blended in. read more
