I had such a lovely experience at Salon Gatto! Everyone working here is so kind & welcoming - especially Karelyne, who went above & beyond to make sure I felt comfortable, heard, & that she understood the exact look I was trying to achieve. Couldn't recommend this salon more!

I must admit that I've been instagram stalking Salon Gatto for a few months now. Trying to get an appointment to cut my insanely long hair. From all the local salons I've been to over the years and ones I've watched on social media, Salon Gatto actually lives up to their image! I came in and met with Molly. A super cute, blonde woman that's friendly and very talented. She made me feel instantly comfortable. She totally understood what I wanted and my hair turned out amazing! The price was actually a little more than I expected, but since I get my hair cut about once a year, it's totally worth it. When I was done, I set up an appointment with her for December so that I'll already be on the books when I need a refresher. But, now the real kicker, I just found out that I will be losing all my hair in a few months, so I may not need that appointment in December.

After 8 hours on day 2 (13 hours in total it was orange)

If you have blonde hair or a blonde balayage and want to go dark- do not come here. The owner informed me after a botched appointment at Salon Gatto with Alana, that it is not possible to do that (which is interesting because blondes go darker all the time). After second opinions, other salons have said it is possible so I'd advise going there where they are confident in their hair coloring abilities. Initially, I went in to Salon Gatto with a blonde balayage on naturally mid/dark brown hair wanting to go back to my natural hair color. I made an appointment with Alana who was very sweet but an appointment that should have been easy (I've gotten second and third opinions on this) to go back to my natural hair color turned into a nightmare. The one specification that I gave upon arrival is that I wanted absolutely NO red or warmth in my hair as I only look good in cool tones. Somehow I ended up with exactly what I had not wanted- maroonish hair (or mahogany hair as a second opinion called it). This was after 5 hours and multiple attempts to fix my hair. I ended up leaving after 5 hours with horrible hair, dissatisfied and had still paid for the service. In poor judgement, in hindsight, I would up giving them a second chance to fix things the next day. This resulted in an 8 hour appointment inclusive of dark permanent hair color at the roots, a bleached balayage (ie. Whole head was bleached to remove the demi permanent hair dye), highlights AND low lights. This time I left exhausted, annoyed and still with the wrong hair color. Eddie was patient and tried his best to fix the mess that was made by the other hair stylist and the owner also stepped in to help on her day off which I did truly appreciate since my hair was a mess. However, while I was thanked for my time an patience. I was never offered a refund (only a deep conditioning treatment to fix my hair that was now overprocessed) or truly apologized to. Additionally, there was never acknowledgement of wrongdoing from the owner on behalf of one of her staff. Over the next few washes my hair proceeded to turn orange. I had to schedule another hair appointment elsewhere to fix my hair where I was informed that my hair was fried, overprocessed and would take a long time (likely a year or more) to recover. I was also informed that from the getgo if the first stylist had just gone a shade darker than my hair color (or a toner all over) it would have been fine but that she likely went lighter which is what turned me red. Additionally, when I went to my second opinion she informed me that my hair was orange and yellow and didn't have any brown in it whatsoever. What should have been a simple appointment, left me with months to years of recovery. While I appreciate them trying to rectify my hair (while in turn actually making things worse) a sincere apology and a refund would have gone a long way here. Neither of which were received.

I found Salon Gatto almost three years ago when I was looking for a hair change. I was white blonde, tired of the maintenance and was wanting to try balayage. From the moment I called the salon, they were welcoming and lovely, and recommended Piera as my hair stylist. Piera took my bleached locks and turned them into healthy, beautiful, and multi-dimensional balayage from the first visit. Piera has continued to be a part of my hair journey and has helped meet my hair goals even for important moments in my life such as my engagement shoot and my upcoming wedding! Her kind demeanor, ability to listen to your vision, and advice make her a pleasure to work with, and she truly can bring your hair vision to life. I am so excited for more balayage sessions to come leading up to my wedding. Work with Piera and she will make your hair dreams come true!

my hair has never looked so good! gatto is the best salon in Hoboken by far. The entire team is so accommodating, they present you with a great drinks menu as soon as you arrive, and the Silas are amazing. RaffI somehow cuts my hair into an amazing style without seeming like he's taken off anything and Melissa is amazing at blonde highlights. I come out looking like a mermaid.

Since I…read morecouldn't leave my own phone number cause it wasn't an American one I left hotel information and it was not a problem at all 2) finding the place : this woulda been tricky because it is kinda hidden / private but I got messaged on the day of my appointment with very clear instructions on how to get there. With that it was easy. Nice service to get those clear instructions as well. 3) atmosphere : coming in to the shop I was greeted heartedly. As mentioned before it is kind of a private place and you get that feeling as well when you come in. It really is a nice place with an amazing atmosphere. The people working there seem like a family to one another. Very pleasant feeling all around being there. 4) the service / cut itself : without any doubt my favourite barber experience of all time. Before getting started we talked about what we wanna do in detail and I really felt understood. Besides that the consultation was extraordinary. You immediately could tell that she is an expert in what she does. The end result was simply amazing. Throughout the cut she always made sure that we were going the right direction and that I was satisfied. That is haircut and beard trim btw. 5) extras : I've already praised the actual things you are looking for in a barber shop but what stood out for me as well was the personality. Often times when you go to a barber I feel like they are just focussed on getting the job done and only talk to you about the cut or with their coworkers. That was not the case whatsoever here. We had a really nice conversation the entire time talking about basically anything. Time just flew past. I honestly wished it would've gone on for longer simply because I had such a great time. Furthermore I received valued advice on what products to use with the structure of my hair. I also bought a product she used to style my hair after the cut was done, but I didn't get the impression that she was trying hard to sell me the product. She simply adviced me to use it or something similar if it wasn't available in my country. After buying the actual product she also told me that if I ever had any questions I could always message her and ask away. So I really have nothing bad to say about this place. If you are in New York and looking for a high quality haircut and / or beard trim I highly recommend checking this place out. You will not be disappointed. If I ever visit New York again I'll be sure to come back. Thanks again so much for a wonderful all around service and the great time I had with you Cassie. All the best to you and your business. Best regards, Basti

Well played ol' Chaps! (& Co)…read more I just had a great grooming experience at Chaps & Co this past weekend. If you follow my reviews, you know every 3 months I come into NYC on a Saturday so my wife can get a haircut. To pass the time, I usually walk around Chelsea Market with an espresso in hand and window shop. This particular weekend, I decided to drop her off and then zoom to midtown for a 90 minute hot shave / scissor cut. Walking into Chaps & Co has a more 21st century modern feel. You won't find a barber pole inside, instead there is a coffee bar. I was introduced to Brian, my barber for the session and sat in the large barber chair. If you've never had a hot towel shave, I suggest you treat yourself. Your face is your biggest asset. The barber uses exfoliating products to revitalize your skin. Then wraps a hot towel to let the products work their magic. Look at my picture, can you believe I'm 77 years old? Haha After my relaxing hot towel shave, he starts to cut my hair. As with any good barber, they have to be a good conversationalist. It seems like I struck gold, this guy was a car guy! We start talking about his car and I mention my old Chevy. The conversation kept going for over an hour. The end result? A fantastic shave & haircut. After I get up to pay, the front desk made me a latte to go. I've been to high end hair places like bumble & bumble. Chaps & Co has the process down, it's a great spot for a gentleman to get a hot towel shave and a haircut. I just made my next appointment with Brian again. It aligns with my wife's appointment. I have a battle rhythm now, Chaps & Co is now my go to NYC barber. Treat yourself and make an appointment!

A GEM OF A COIFFURE TUCKED ATOP FIFTH AVENUE:…read more I came across the SCK Salon during this summer. It's a little beauty gem tucked away on Fifth Avenue close to Saks. The salon interior is lovely and an experience in of itself: a pristine white loft on the fourth floor. It's well-designed, minimalist and sun kissed, making for a bright and lovely experience. The salon staff are efficient and so pleasant making the overall experience a boost to your day. I had a single process (with Tam) and cut (with Chen). Both were done professionally. Tam is such a pleasant and kind coiffure. Chen does an amazing blow dry and is a very talented hairdresser. He does good haircuts too. I cannot recommend both of them enough after the pleasant experience I had, right down to the thoughtfully prepared cappuccino and biscotti for their clients. The one thing that places this salon in my favourites list is the fact that they use Kerastase products which are really so agreeable with my hair type and have been a product that I have used since my 20's at hairdressers around the world. The Kerstase shampoos and conditioners brought back such nice and happy memories ... The prices range from USD 165-200 dollars for a single process. About USD 155- 258 dollars for a cut and USD 67-150 dollars for a blow dry. The only thing I would change or ask more of at this salon would be music, music, MUSIC! It's always great to have some tunes playing in the background as you get pretty or prettier, as the case maybe. Enjoy your time at Salon SCK. It's a dream to have your hair in their good hands.

I'm not clear anymore if they're going to refund me or not. I was left with a haircut that does not reflect what I asked for and was not resolved after multiple attempts. The only solution ultimately offered was to cut it even shorter into a pixie, which I had been clear from the beginning I did not want. When I pushed back on that and requested compensation for the $105.45 I've already spent on hair products/tools to fix the haircut errors, I was asked to reconsider leaving a negative review and was offered compensation "for the next cut", which sounded to me like a quid pro quo. After declining, the final responses I received from the owner included "anything we seem to do or say you turn around to be something horrible so I am done talking" which speaks for itself in terms of professionalism. I came in with clear references for a micro bob/longer bixie with a piecey, directional finish. The initial result was a pixie in the back disconnected from a micro-bob shape in the front. My bangs were barely trimmed but left uneven, and the overall shape did not reflect the references provided. The cut was then "corrected" by the owner. She significantly improved the back by removing weight and creating the appearance of more length without cutting it shorter. However, the front was taken much shorter in the process. My bangs went from hanging over my eyes to sitting roughly an inch off my forehead, and the overall balance of the cut was not resolved. The sideburns also remained visibly uneven in length even after this second pass. These problems are structural, not styling-related: * the sideburns are visibly uneven in length (even after being addressed, and these areas do not change with parting or styling) * excess weight through the crown creates a dense, rounded "helmet" shape * the transition between the very short back and longer front lacks cohesion * the fringe remains blunt rather than broken up and textured I raised these concerns during the appointment, and multiple stylists, including the owner, were involved. I asked another more trusted stylist for directions on how to fix it and sent the owner this explicit step by step guide. Still, you can see the result. I was told by a 3rd stylist brought in that the result was a dead-on match my reference, which is difficult to reconcile with the visible inconsistencies. The cut was styled in a way that temporarily masked these issues, and the pace of the appointment made it difficult to fully assess what was happening. I felt rushed to wrap up despite actively pointing out uneven areas. After following up, I was issued a refund, which I appreciate. However, I was also told the cut was correct and simply intended to be worn differently, which does not align with what is visibly present. This has also had a real impact beyond the haircut itself. I now have my sister's wedding this summer and may need to rely on temporary solutions like wigs just to make this feel wearable while it grows out. I will be including photos, both haircuts, my before and after plus the inspo with this review so others can judge the result for themselves. If you're looking for a more classic or controlled short cut, this salon may be a fit. But if you want a precise micro bob or similarly structured short shape, I would proceed with caution and make sure your stylist is aligned on execution, not just general aesthetic.

This was their "best advice for me" and that I should come back and get both together. I only needed a haircut and this was the only chance I got (I am a SAHM with 2 kids and minimal backup except this day) so I said I would consider it but I need a cut now. It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I could have done it myself.
