Stacey came to escort me to the stylist's station. She introduced herself and told me her role. She gave me an amazing scalp massage while shampooing my hair! I thought I would fall asleep. My stylist is Rosie. We had a great conversation about what to do with my hair. I'm not a fan of giving detailed instructions. I want the stylist to give me a cut that suits me. I really felt heard. My cut is lovely and there's a detailed plan of what's next including the frequency of the salon visits. I'm looking forward to returning! read more

The salon itself is gorgeous and my hairdresser was really nice and kind and very thoughtful, I think she didn't really know how to cut my hair though. I just came in for a trim and to get the weight out of my hair. I have very thick dark Asian hair and I guess it doesn't do well to use thinning shears to take the weight out. This left my hair with very very short pieces of hair close to the roots and a very choppy cut. I had to go to another hairdresser to fix it, but even she admitted to it needing to grow out because it was kind of butchered looking. Everything else about my experience was pleasant, she styled and curled my hair so nicely that I didn't even realise the mistakes until I washed my hair the next day, I just won't be going back read more

So this place is legit. Ryan was my man, and he is the man. First of all, this place is super hip. Great space, great light, great music. You fill out a card asking you about water temp preference, drink preference - coffee, tea, filtered water, wine etc.., massage preference etc... The music is great, think indie rock, and they have a variety of mags to glance at while waiting. I entered and Ryan immediately got my hair - which is thick and coarse and said I got you girl, basically since I told him to make my hair look amazing. I was indeed looking to cut a few more inches off than my regular trim and get rid of the grown out bangs. The wash was perfect and long with a nice head massage. I told the lovely guy that my hair has been dry this summer and he told me all about this Paul Mitchell shampoo to use and he said he would use it on me to see if I liked it (which I did and bought). Back to Ryan. He cut, he layered, he did it. Hot damn, praise the lord. Ryan, we had a great conversation flowing the whole time and you made my hair look fab. Bangs perfectly trimmed so they can grow out not in a funktastic way and be brushed to the side. The blow out was awesome with two men having at me (oooh la la). So great. I felt like a million bucks. And I went to a CMYE after (VB3) and got like 1000 compliments on how smokin' I was lookin'. Oh yeah. I always wait months after a salon to review. Went to Salon Caru for the first time today and had the best experience!! I went to Michael for a haircut and it's perfection. Michael is an expert stylist, he's also so easy to talk to making the appointment fly by. If you're looking for a precision haircut, you have to visit Michael! On top of the fantastic service, the salon itself was doing so much to keep guests safe with no fear of covid risk. Appointments are limited, stations are spread apart, staff work in small teams to lower contact, everyone is fully masked (no noses poking through or low quality masks here), and hand sanitizer offered throughout your service. I booked an appointment online and PAID a $35 deposit for a partial highlight this week. I just moved to the area and needed to find a new salon, saw good reviews for this place. I get to my appointment on time and the salon is closed, no one was in there, the door is locked. I callled and didn't get a VM but instead got another message that said there was a fire or something in august at the salon but they are rebooking all appointments and to text that number. so I texted them. haven't heard anything back from them and it's been three days. huge disappointment felt like I got scammed and I needed my hair done for a wedding :( read more

Frankly I'm surprised about the rave reviews for this salon. I had my hair cut and colored here recently and while the salon is nice, the quality of both services were pretty lackluster, especially considering how expensive they were. I mean we're talking city prices = + $300 for highlights and cut without tip is pretty outrageous if you ask me... Especially considering how they turned out. Firstly I never wrote a review on yelp but use it daily for its super helpful. I found Caru on yelp after being left with a horrible green/orange dye job from my hairdresser of 8 years. I called desperately looking for any available appointment on Saturday. In my emotional state I shared my story with the receptionist in hopes she might sympathize with my embarrassing clown head. She said she couldn't fit me in last minute on a Sunday but took my number and told me she would call if their were any openings. Not even 10 mins later I got a call back. Amanda was the stylist who saved me and my hair! I could write so much about her. She listened to my sob story and told me what she could do to correct the color today. She spent over 8 hours on my hair and delivered amazing results. She talked me through the entire process. Her service goes above and beyond any stylist I ever went to. We were the last ones to leave the salon. The staff at Caru is extremely warm and helpful. One staff members went out to put money in my meter and many others jumped in during the process. I left with blonde hair and happy. Amanda is a hair saint. She dedicated to correcting my hair and making me satisfied. I have recommended three friends here and they all love it. It's a true gem. Have been coming to Caru for a few years and they never disappoint. I see Josephine and she is great! Very modern salon, clean and bright. Josephine is very patient and takes her time while cutting and styling my hair. She sits me down every time and makes recommendations on what cut will be best. Shes very laid back and personable and never tries to push products on you. She's very detailed in explaining whats shes doing and what products are being used. I liked the color, but no when may hair started breaking weeks later I was not happy. I know she works on commission, I gave her a nice tip, but how dare you try to make it seem like I am scamming to get a refund, not once did I ask for refund, I was just pointing out I was told a different price, you didn't even meet me or see my hair & burns to come at me. I did not want to talk on phone because this has been very argumentative, but if you want to I absolutely will because now you are attacking me personally, call me, we can chat. I have gotten my hair colored since and they were in shock by the broken hair all in front. And by the way I am an artist myself & give so much credit to others in the industry, but being scammed by people (which I gave you the benefit of the doubt for that wasn't on purpose, she might have just not known price, but now believe you do this to customers often) and now my hair is broken, I have every right to be dissatisfied & lower my rating. If you're looking for the perfect colorist, go to Heidi at Salon Caru. I've been going to this salon for several months and I'm so happy I found them. After moving to Jersey City I was in search of the perfect salon, and the perfect stylist to create natural looking highlights that would look good even once they've started growing out. I read every review I could find on every salon in Hoboken and Jersey City. After evaluating every colorist in the area, I decided that Heidi, "The Goddess of Gold" was my girl. I made an appointment for a consultation. My consultation appointment put all of my Libra OCD anxiety at ease. Heidi sat with me and carefully looked at my existing color and discussed what I liked and didn't like. It is apparent that she really cares about what she's doing. She's patient and down to earth, yet extremely knowledgeable about the products and techniques. She's not only a stylist, she has a degree in graphic design. Before Heidi even touched my hair I could tell that she's an artist. She sees in shapes and shades and color and angles. I made an appointment for the next day and let Heidi do her work. When she was finished, my hair looked better than it had ever looked before. The color was really pretty. My hair had beautiful, natural looking strands of sun kissed blonde. On top of the color being exactly what I had envisioned, my hair felt and looked luxuriously shiny. With highlights, Heidi uses a shine treatment with protein to perfectly blend and condition the hair. (I was weary of this at first because of the temporary color that's in the treatment but I love it now. It helps keeps me from having dreaded, horrible roots. I get a shine treatment in between highlight appointments.) I have been to Heidi three times now, and each time I have been extremely satisfied. We've changed hue's slightly (for the seasons) and each time it was carefully thought out and planned by Heidi. If you are looking for someone who truly knows what they're doing, go to Heidi. She's a true Master Colorist. She will sit down with you and spend the time to figure out what you like and what you're looking to achieve. She'll give you her expert opinion on what she recommends but she will also make sure she sees color through your eyes, which is a quality that is difficult to find in a stylist. Curtis cut my hair and did a great job. I've only been to him once so far but I loved him. He's only there during the week because he does hair for fashion and print work on weekends so he's hard to book appointments with. Aesthetically, the salon is nice. Calling is a different story though. I book my appointments while I'm there so I don't have to call and get their annoying automated answering system, or be put on hold several times by the receptionist. The prices are slightly higher than other salons in NJ but fairly reasonable compared to top notch NYC salons. Everything at Salon Caru was great with the exception of the receptionist who overcharged me at one of my appointments, and told me wrong information about one of the salon's policies. In addition to that, at two of the three appointments I've had there, the receptionist offered me a drink when I arrived, I told her I'd love one but she never followed through and gave them to me. It worked out though. Once I was in Heidi's chair, she took great care of me and made sure I had whatever I needed. read more

This review is based on a first-time experience. I had a great first-time experience here. I had Cindy who was a junior stylist but did an awesome job on my hair. I have a really basic hair cut, but she really freshened up the look and made my hair feel and look fabulous. The layers flow much better now, and overall the look feels much more young and fresh. Haircut was only $65 - which also included blow dry and style. Cindy thought beach waves would look cute so she went above and beyond and styled that for me. I love that she took the liberty in styling what she thought would work for me, and also that it wasn't an extra unexpected cost. Overall, the salon is really hip and young. The salon was bustling for a Tuesday night with customers getting a lot of fresh and cool looks (one girl was getting purple balayage that looked so professional and amazing). Even the reception was super friendly, which I find rare in "city" salons. I will be back to Cindy and I definitely recommend checking this place out! read more

I found this salon on Yelp and decided to give it a try for a bold change (from bold to red). I was booked with Brittney C by chance and I'm so happy I was! She was friendly, patient, and professional as she walked me through all my coloring options and helped me make the best decision for my lifestyle and desired color. On top of that, she matched the picture I brought in EXACTLY, and everyone kept commenting about not knowing I was a natural red head. It looked great :-) Since my visit, I've changed my color around and had some fun and Brittney has been wonderful and flexible. There's nothing like a good haircut to boost your day! When I moved to NY from Chicago, I dreaded finding a new hair stylist. I loved my stylist in Chicago. My first attempt at a salon in NY failed miserably. I hated, hated, hated my haircut. A few months later, I was visiting Chicago and had my old stylist fix it and put it back to my usual style. I lamented my new stylist search, and that's when she told me that a woman from their salon (who helped train my stylist) had moved to Hoboken and was at Caru. Could this be the answer to my new stylist search? YES!!! I just had my haircut with Randi and I love it. She was able to follow the same style of my previous cut, freshen it up, and add some much needed oomph to my hair. My hair wash rocked too. Today she styled my hair straight (at my request so I could really see the cut), but next time I'll probably have her curl it for a more fun style. On top of the great styling skills, Randi was really great to chat with and I'm looking forward to regular trips to Hoboken for my every-other-month haircuts. Added bonus: this salon is super close to the PATH and carries the full Paul Mitchell line. I can replenish my hair products here and also redo my highlights come spring. read more

I have never taken the time to write a review on Yelp, but my experience was so great I just had to! First I want to mention that I am a hairstylist that no longer practices and have been desperately looking for someone good to do my color (too hard to a highlight on myself). Needing to have a bad color job fixed, I called first thing Sunday morning and was able to get in that day with Andrea. Walking in, I was greeted right away by a very friendly receptionist offering me a beverage. She gave me a tour of the salon and then set me up in a chair making sure I had a good magazine to read. Next I met Andrea who sat down in front of me and listened to everything. We discussed the many pictures I had and what I was looking to achieve. She is very talented and did an amazing job with my hair. It looked so natural! None of those zebra stripes you see walking around Hoboken! After living here for a year and a half I have finally found my new color tech. I am going to be switching to Caru to get my haircut here as well. While I was getting my hair done, there was an assistant testing out to get a chair. I was so excited to learn they had a training program just like the salon I used to work in. He was so eager to help me with my "hair disaster" (another stylist ruined my hair) and he did everything he could to teach me tricks to lessen the impact of her 'mistakes', and to keep me thinking on the bright side of my horrible hair cut (haha). I love this place!!! I've had my hair done three times here over the past year. My first experience was with Josephine and the last two times with Ashley. They are both amazing stylists. Everyone in this salon is super nice and accommodating. The quality you receive is 100% worth the price. Parking is annoying.. obviously it's Hoboken. Just park in the garages closeby and they'll validate up to 2 hours, which means I get to my appointment right on time. Haha. Speaking of appointments, I love the email and text reminders to confirm your time. People, you need to come here!
