It is so hard to find a new salon. Once you trust someone with your hair, especially for color, you start to believe that no one else exists who could ever match what you had. Thank goodness Sorella Mia proved me wrong! After 5 years of driving an hour to my hometown to get my hair done, enough was enough. I always told myself that color in Jersey City is simply too expensive. AND IT IS. However, if done right, it's worth it. My first time in, I had a haircut with Dana. The place was lovely and she couldn't have been nicer! I told her I didn't want to lose a lot of length but to just get it healthy and she did just that--wasn't pushy and gave great tips on how to style and blow dry without being pretentious. I knew then I had found my new salon. My second visit, Leah did my color. What a shame that she is only in a couple days a week! She is a truly talented colorist. I despise stripey, unnatural foil highlights but have found that balyage means different things to different people. I have been going to Dana since 2016. I had been there prior to and after treatment for breast cancer. Dana was amazing with listening about how my hair felt and was acting weird after treatment. She gave great tips about clarifying shampoo and biotin. (both of which helped incredibly) I will now be following Dana to her new forever home in INSTYLE the salon at JC Penny at Newport Mall. You know what they say- when you find a great stylist - you keep her or in my case follow her. lol She has done great cuts on me. I heard about Sorella Mia through friends and FB and gave it a try since it was close to where I was staying. Being a stylist myself Im a bit hyper critical. First of all the salon is gorgeous. A mix of upscale elegance and Boho Chic....Big windows, airy and clean, I really wished there was a place back home like this where I could work. Dana was amazing, kind, professional, warm and funny is how she comes off when you first meet her. But half way through the service, its like you have been friends forever. But most of all her technique is spot on, she knew exactly what I wanted and how to achieve it. I would definitely recommend Sorella Mia to my friends in New York and New Jersey. If I could give this salon 6 stars, I would! I had a bad haircut from a different salon and was desperate to fix it ASAP! I saw all the positive reviews on Yelp for Sorella Mia and decided to give this place a shot. I am so glad I did! As soon as I walked in, salon owner Dana made me feel like a regular customer and immediately asked if I wanted coffee, water, or tea. Her dog Mia was the sweetest companion, keeping me company while I waited for my turn for my haircut. I felt so comfortable! When it was my turn, I explained to Dana the hair trouble I got into and she really listened to me and understood what I wanted. For this being my first visit, I was super impressed that she nailed exactly what I wanted my hair cut to look like. That's a gift! Dana is such a wonderful stylist. I started off with blowout treatments, due to advantage of salon's proximity to my home, but my experience here turned out to be the best ever!! I have extremely frizzy hair and Dana suggested relaxation treatment. Dana is down to earth, clearly takes a great deal of pride in her work, and does a fabulous job. I always walk out of this place feeling like a million bucks. It's not the cheapest place in town (although it's not the most expensive either), but I think it's worth it. I wasn't seen until an hour after my scheduled appt. which completely ruined my plans for the remainder of the afternoon, I know things come up, but as a respectable business owner, you pick up the phone and call your clients to give them a heads up so you're not wasting their time. I asked for swooping bangs and walked out w. one inch bangs that I have to pin back until they grow out which is an awful hair style for me. I was looking for a new hair salon for two reasons 1) closer to home and 2) I really wanted to find someone who takes their time trying to understand what I want and give me their honest opinion about it. I hit the jackpot! I ended up being scheduled with Tayra and it turned out great. She really listened to me, gave me her honest opinion, and walked me through everything she was doing. I came in for a trim and layer refresh. After she "examined" my hair she told me I had a lot of split ends and showed me how my previous cut wasn't the best for my hair type and why. I ended cutting off more than I thought I would but boy am i happy I did. I can really feel the difference in my hair. My goal is to grow out my hair (but in a healthy shiny way). Tayra proceeded to give me recommendations on treatments and shampoos and put me on a "hair clean up" schedule. Not only was she professional and knowledgeable- she is very personable. It was like talking to a friend! I can't wait to go back! I also had the opportunity to speak to Dana, the owner, and she is really great. She's humble, down to earth and you can really tell she cares about her clients. The team seems to take their time with everyone that walks through the door. I never write reviews, but after my experience with this AMAZING hair salon I was compelled to write one! Sorella Mia is a classy and clean hair salon that has a ton of charm to it. As soon as I walked in Marissa the receptionist greeted me, checked me in and asked if I would like a beverage (so nice). I get very bored with my hair and after having it long for over 8 years I was so done with it. As soon as I sat down in Dana chair I was so relaxed and ready to do some snipping, even though it was my first time there. Dana listened, paid close attention to what I had in mind and BLEW my mind away with the finished results- an edgy bob with an undercut. Dana (the owner) did a fantastic job with my haircut, and I've been getting compliments on the cut ever since. I got an inverted bob cut, which isn't the easiest style to get right, but Dana painstakingly made sure to get every detail right. This place is fairly new (didn't find a lot of reviews for it) and they have competitive prices ($45 for my haircut! - amazing!). So, I took the risk given my tight budget. The owner, Dona, did my hair. She was very friendly and listened to what I wanted. I was very pleased with the result. This haircut would have cost me upwards of $70 anywhere else in downtown JC. I loved my visit to Sorella Mia! I was treated with such professionalism and care that it is hard to compare. The salon has a great feel to it from the moment you walk in. Greeted with a cup of tea and a big smile, I felt welcomed instantly. The large windows let in lots of light, allowing you to see yourself in natural lighting. The artificial lighting in most salons is a big downer for me since I look different in each light. Dana, the owner, was a great host, sharing stories about her life and experiences. Ewa, who was attaching my eye lash extensions, was very careful to explain the process to me and all of the products used. I mentioned my skin's sensitivity and was assured they use medical grade glue to attach lashes. Ewa also gave me detailed after care instructions and made sure I'd be far away from steam or any other factors that might affect the staying power of my new extensions. I hated my experience. Had a 12PM appointment and Dana made me wait coz she was attending to another customer who clearly just got there. Wasn't she supposed to tell him she has an appointment and can't take him. Anyways, even after 35 minutes of waiting she was still not done with the other customer. I live in the complex that is adjacent to Dana's salon. I decided to walk-in and give her a try after she had been open for a few months. When I first met her, I couldn't believe how friendly and open she was, what a relief after dealing with an overwhelming amount of snooty salon personnel in the City. We ended up chatting away through the appointment as she worked wonders with my hair. By the time I left, I felt like I had made a new friend. Dana is not only a talented hair stylist, but just a great person to be around. I was in desperate need of a haircut but didn't have time to get one at home, so I found Sorella Mia online and thought I would give it a try based on Dana's resume and reasonable prices in comparison to other Jersey City Salons. I have to say I was a little skeptical at first (due to the fact that I'm very fussy about my hair) but I was pleasantly surprised by not only the best haircut that I have ever had in my life (and that's the truth) as well as Dana's very inviting personality. She made me feel like I had know her for years. I booked the appointment online, which made me a little nervous at first but those fears were put to rest when my phone rang immediately to confirm my appointment.
