Now, I see Dena weekly and I would recommend anyone to Up & Out. The Salon uses R+Co and Moroccan Oil, which are both excellent high end hair products. Unfortunately I do not have my own yelp page so I'm using my husbands and I refuse to make one and make it look like all the fake pages that leave reviews. I'm very confident in all the stylists here. Never had a bad experience. Staff is extremely friendly from start to finish . Got a wash, haircut, blowout, & styling last weekend here & it surely did not disappoint! This was much needed for me as I hadn't got my hair done in over a year & my birthday was in a couple days, which I was going on vacation for. Luz truly outdid herself on my hair! She gave me layers & curtain bangs just the way I asked. Also she was super precise & took my wishes into consideration. I would give 0 stars if I could because...I was never serviced. I called ahead on Wednesday, August 14 to make an appointment for 8AM on Friday August 16. The first red flag should've been that the salon is listed to open at 8AM on Fridays, but I was told I'd have to pay a $35 early bird fee on top of the cost of a blowout. Fine, no problem. The woman took down my information and told me she'd confirm with her stylist and let me know. She called back a few hours later to confirm my 8AM appt. On Friday I show up at 8AM and there is one woman servicing her client who assures me that my stylist is just parking. 5, 10, then 15 minutes go by and she assures me that the stylist is just parking. finally at around 8:20 she lets me know that no one is answering her messages (in what i assume is a group chat) and that she was surprised I had an appointment at all because usually no one comes in early. She then proceeds to tell me that no one is coming and that she has to leave after her client. At this point its 8:30 so I've waited THIRTY MINUTES for a stylist that never showed up and am being sent home with zero explanation. The woman there let me know that the manager would call me to rectify the situation. I'm now writing this on Sunday, August 25 after calling Up & Out and getting no response. No one has reached out to me or responded to my outreach. I was literally STOOD UP by a stylist the day before my engagement party. Ultimately I wasn't even charged because no one showed up, but I don't think that validates the fact that the service was never provided on a very special day and on top of that, no one ever responded to me or reached out to me. I was in a right pickle when my hot water refused to work, and I had my first in-person event in over a year. My hair had not been washed in 3+ days and after many attempts to jump in a FREEZING cold shower, I just couldn't get myself to do it. I called UP&OUT but no one picked up. I did not think to leave a message because I figured they were fully booked. Melissa called me back in less than 5 mins and although she had a jam-packed scheduled, she squeezed me in for a flawless blowout that took less than 30 mins. Honestly saved my life! My stylist Danielle is fabulous! Super nice and friendly. Really listens to what you want to do. And when she gets to work, wow! She really knows what she's doing. I needed to do an up do with clip in extensions 20" - my own hair (fine) only goes down to the shoulders. Danielle worked her magic and even gave me tips how to clip them in myself in the future. Style came out beautiful and natural. And I'm one of those people who will visit 10 salons until I find the one I feel comfortable with. Love this place! All I wanted was a fancy French braid, and I couldn't find anywhere in Manhattan/Hudson County that would do it without charging the price of a full updo aka a 50-spot. Then, I found Up & Out. Made an appointment for noon on a Saturday, but they were able to accommodate me when I called at 11 and asked to come at 11:30. The salon was bustling. The manager was assigned to braid my hair. She did exactly what I wanted: two side French braids along the top of my head that met in a bun below my ear. I LOVED IT. Also, it only cost $25, which I think is a great price. I ended up taking out the bun at the end of the night but kept the braids for a few days. I watched all the other women as they paid and left. Every single one looked FABULOUS. These stylists really know how to work a blow dryer. I highly recommend for special occasions or even weekends. I heard one stylist say he has a client who never washes her own hair; she just comes once a week to get it fabulously blown out. If only! read more

I booked a cut and color at 9am on Sunday, the hair stylist cancelled day-of claiming "a miscommunication" with the schedule (I had called twice to make sure it worked) and that they didn't have a key. They asked to reschedule, I asked if the following day at 9am would work since the cut was for a video event for work so it was rather urgent, they said ok. Then day-of they didn't show up. Came here for an updo for my brother in laws wedding. Got there at 10:45 for my 10:45 Saturday appointment and was seen instantly. Kai (spelling?) styled me. I basically told her I want a loose updo thats textured with loose waves. She was SO GOOD! She kept checking with me if I liked how it looked and when I wAnted a small change, she did it without any huffs or puffs. I had a lot of expectations going into this appointment because of the great reviews. I went in at 8am this morning with an appointment to get a blow out. I told the stylist exactly what I wanted. It wasn't a bad blowout, but it was really limp...that's the best way I can explain it. All the other blowouts I've gotten (in Manhattan or otherwise), my hair is super voluminous and has some weight. Also the stylist never stopped to show me while I was there to make sure what she was doing was what I wanted. It didn't help that we weren't sitting right in front of a mirror. It's more a of a mirror wall but our seats are too low to get an actual view of what is going on. I feel like I could've done this at home and I'm not good at doing blowouts. I took my mom who was visiting from out of state to this salon over the weekend and they were absolutely phenomenal! It was my first time at Up & Out as well and they truly were great. The two stylists were both ready and waiting when we arrived for our appointment. They took our coats, offered us a drink, and got all the details of how we'd like our hair done. They checked in throughout the process and always asked us before putting any type of product in our hair. My mom has extraordinary thick hair and her stylist knocked it out of the park leaving my mom with a nice flat, sleek look when she was done. She is still talking about how amazing the shampooing felt in their reclining massage chairs! I purchased the February Unlimited Package and I couldn't be happier. I've been to all of the major salons in Hoboken and I haven't been so satisfied with a blowout in a very long time. I've gone to Kai 2x per week since February began and my hair hasn't looked better! My hair is a bit curly and can be hard to manage, but Kai gets it done perfectly in less than 25 minutes. My blowout with her looks very natural and bouncy, lasting me about 5 days! I'll definitely be purchasing a different package once this ones over thanks to her amazing skills! This place is great if your looking to do a quick blowout and style. The place is small, super clean, and the staff is super helpful and professional. Most salons I've been to lately are either dirty or the staff was rude. The decor is modern but sweet. The girl that I had was really nice and did an amazing job on my hair. Jessica greeted me, offered me a drink, a magazine & shared small talk with me while she washed my hair. I told her what I was looking for and she executed perfectly. I absolutely love this place! I made an appointment online for 4:15 on Saturday, and when I got there a little early, they still started me with a nice long hair wash. The chairs at the sinks give a massage which is a nice surprise! They use all Morrocanoil products, so there's quality stuff being put on your hair. Clarissa did my blowout and was an absolute doll! She managed to give my chemically straightened hair some bounce and curl! My hair was perfect for my date later that night. I'll absolutely be returning! This place is terrific! Very welcoming - they are so lovely to my daughters who accompany me quite often. Comfortable - very clean, and great reclining shampoo chairs that massage you! But the best part of course is the staff - I've had blow outs from almost everyone and I've never had a bad one. And my blow outs last for a week. I realize that some of this is due to my hair texture. But it is also because they never put in too much product. And everyone is very nice! Also - they are always on time. This is a huge deal when you are busy as most people are. There is nothing worse than allocating a specific amount of time for something and then having to wait beforehand. Solid place to get a blowout! The best way to go about this is to get a month of blowouts, try every stylist you can, and then see who styles your hair the way you like it best. Pro's: they give you a drink when you come in (water, tea, wine or champagne if they have it), they have a separate place to hang coats, a nice bathroom in the back, and 2 styling bars. They also have music on (depending on how busy it is, and who's working you can ask for something specific), and they usually have a good 80's or 90's movie (on silent) to watch. You're provided magazines to read if that's more your thing and they have hooks for your purse on the "bar" where you sit. There's even a small table and chairs if you come with someone or are waiting for your appointment to start. Ooh-and the chairs by the sinks recline and massage! Con's: it can be pricey if you do it often-it's not terrible, but depending on who does your hair and how much product they put In (And what kind of wash you get), it may not last which makes it more of a treat for you than something functional that will last a while. Unfortunately, there's a large disparity in talent there. To be more specific, some of the stylists are more friendly and accommodating than the others (e.g. some aren't as happy if you're specific about how you'd like your hair to be blown out/styled), so those are the real downsides. TIP: go early-they have a short grace period for people who are late, and they charge for people who are very late/no shows! read more

The time had come for my 13 year old daughter's 8th grade dinner dance. I was chaperoning and she and her best friend wanted hair and makeup. My daughter is a tomboy and doesn't do this stuff.....ever, so about a month and a half ago we came in for a trial with Kerry. She did an incredible job with both girls, taking the time to talk with them and discover what they really wanted and the best way to achieve it and have it last with their different types of hair. About 2 weeks prior to I was contacted by Kerry informing me she unfortunately wasn't going to be able to do our hair and would it be ok to schedule us with other stylists. I agreed that everyone should be more than capable and took the shot that everything would be ok........well it was! Jackie did both of the girls hair and Desiree did mine and the compliments are still rolling in and it's the day after!! Jillian did all of our make-up and I'm beyond impressed!! As a woman heavily involved in the beauty and fashion industry I have to say I would call her to do make-up any time and every time. My daughter never wears make-up and we wanted something natural and appropriate, but that stood out, she achieved this beautifully! Her friend's make-up was equally fabulous and my husband told me she had done the best job on my make-up ever! In addition to the fact that the services that we received were done extremely well, the way we were treated was perfect! The girls were treated like young ladies and enjoyed getting pampered and I enjoyed relaxing and drinking my mimosa while we all got our hair and make-up done. First appointment here a few days ago, and I loved the job they did on my hair. The shampoo+massage chair was great, and the water temperature was perfect. I liked that they asked me if I wanted anything to drink (water/tea/coffee, etc.) since it was early in the day. I had a wedding to go to later in the day, so I'm glad my hair held up for most of it. My hairstylist did tell me to come back if I felt that my hair was falling flat, unfortunately, time didn't permit me to come back to them for a retouch before the reception. I was also offered a drink while I was getting my hair done. They only have two sinks, so if you are there while they are busy, you may have to wait a bit like I did. Also, i think the prices are a bit too steep, so this is definitely something I will reserve for special occasions. Disappointing experience at Up & Out - I was really looking forward to my appointment as I was visiting from out of town and was heading to a wedding later that day. I pulled about 8 photos that showed what I wanted my stylist to do and she just sort of stared at me blankly when I showed them to her. I wish I was exaggerating but literally she said nothing. Which I should have seen as a red flag but figured maybe they're just not used to people showing them photo examples and maybe she was offended. So I let her do her thing. Didn't come out aaaaanything like any of the photos I showed her. That's not to say it didn't look good, it looked alright, not great. It just wasn't the style I wanted, not the type of curls I asked for. Very disappointing experience. Additionally, it wasn't just my lady but I felt like the staff was really unfriendly. The shampoo girl and the stylist both were mute throughout my entire experience with them. Not at all looking to be entertained with conversation but when I make a comment about the rain etc. you can at least respond somehow. It was weird. I would not go back .There were a couple pros, listed below. But this isn't enough to warrant a repeat trip when there are other blowout bars in Hoboken. This place was amazing. Stylist Christian was on point with my hair. I never am satisfied with beauty professionals, so this salon was the first that exceeded my expectations. I will definitely go back and 100% recommend others to not hesitate when booking. My stylist did his best and succeeded in getting the outcome I wanted. I have heard good things about the salon and decided to try out the blow out and makeup for a wedding I had to attend later that day. My makeup looked ok, however, one of the eyelash extensions came out before I even got to the wedding. I had to run around asking the guests for someone with a glue to reattach the extension. And to make things worse, I got an eye infection within a day after getting my make up done! I have no way of knowing for certain, but I never had an eye infection before and it is just too much of a coincidence. It was a different eye from where the eyelash came out, so I know the infection wasn't from fixing the eyelash. The hair was decent, but I had someone fix my extension at the wedding as the clips were showing through my hair. read more
