I have silver hair with roots grown out. When I called to schedule for an appt, I asked several times if they can match my roots to the silver hair I have, to which I was told yes. On the day of, I had Angelo take care of my hair. He's a nice fellow but incompetent. He didn't touch my dyed silver hair at all so I was concerned if the roots will blend with the rest of my hair. I asked him and he word for word said it's going to blend "seamlessly." I left the salon with two tones; brassy warm tone on the top and my original cool tone silver hair on the bottom. I was so upset I went to my old salon- Xcellent Beauty Salon and paid another $500 (in total) to fix this bad hair job the very next day. The owner Janelle saw my ig story and said she will refund me immediately. It's been well over a week. I followed up with the request to which I was left on seen.

what I went for & assured no problem, shouldn't have been!

There's a difference between laid back vibe & unprofessional. Absolutely would NOT recommend. I was a model for apprentice, arrived SUPER early & sat waiting 40 min for "Educator ". Was there 6 hours in chair!!!!! Healthy hair, never had single process. Anthony little to NO help. Hour 5, I knew there was problem with color, was at sink for half hr, not comfortable! She tried toners, everything. She felt bad because she knew my hair was messed up!! Meanwhile Anthony the professional "Educator " gave her little guidance. I've been to Oscar Blandi, Lebreque, Paul himself comes to check apprentice!! Many high end to mid great places. How do you F up healthy, annual HL hair in 6 long hrs. So hungry & tired, stayed patient & kind entire time. DISAPPOINTED & DO NOT RECOMMEND. There are SOO many great places in NYC, go THERE not O&M. Tipped & hugged colorist despite feeling depressed, she should've had ASSIST. Had chemo 10 yrs ago, lost 60% hair. Was surprised how devastated it felt, hair means a lot. Hence, billion $ business. Tried calling mngr., she called once, never again, sent pics email. Nothing. Will post pics.

Original & Mineral is such a lovely place. I came here as a hair model and I really love the atmosphere. I wasn't being treated like I was just there as someone who was being used as an experiment, but as if I was a paying customer. And who ever did the interior set up for the salon really knew how to make a salon feel like home. When I walked in I was greeted by a receptionist and she asked me if I had an appointment. After that another employee, I'm going to assume she's a salon assistant or something, greeted me and helped me hang my coat up and offered to bring me some refreshments. She also helped me put on a cape and lead me to a chair with a wide table. I soon learned that that's where clients get their hair done if it were a dye job. There's a separate station for haircutting and I definitely think it's the cutest set up ever. It feels more casual and maybe even intimate if you were talking to your stylist. Some of the clients that were already getting their hair done were also using their laptops while sipping their drinks. There were also magazines you can read through, some nice decor like flowers and some styling products spread out. After a little bit of waiting I was greeted by a stylist that was going to bleach my hair. The process was about two or three hours long which was typical for most salon trips. I have to say their bleaching products weren't as painful as I expected. In fact, it didn't hurt for a long period of time either. I've only bleached my hair very few times and I was in a lot of pain throughout the whole process. Original & Mineral's bleaching product was such a light pain on my head and it disappeared really quickly after a while. It smells really good too. Actually all their products smelled nice. After the bleach set in I was lead to a washing station and had my hair washed and toned...etc? I'm not sure what products are used after bleaching honestly, but they did use one or three different products to wash my hair in. Right after that I was lead back to the table for a blow dry and light styling. I'm very happy with how my hair came out. It was definitely a great experience and I'm so happy with everything. Even though I didn't really talk to my stylist, I overheard others chatting and I could tell the employees were super friendly and caring. I'm definitely going to come back as a regular client on my next visit.

I did my hair with Nancy Casiano, she's super sweet and an amazing artist! It was an amazing experience and I would love to come back again her Instagram is @nancycasianohair

I paid $480 for my appointment and left with hair that looked patchy and not like what we had discussed. While disappointing results can sometimes happen, what bothered me most was the complete lack of communication afterward. I reached out to Masaki on May 13 regarding my concerns and attempted to resolve the issue privately. I never received a response. It has now been about a month, and despite giving plenty of time for a reply, I have been ignored. I did not immediately leave reviews or make public comments because I wanted to give him the opportunity to address the situation directly. Unfortunately, that opportunity was never taken. For $480, I expected a higher standard of work and customer service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Masaki.

Updating my review: I used to come here because the haircuts were strong, but over time the…read moreexperience deteriorated significantly. Appointments became rushed, started late, and lacked even basic professionalism. You're barely greeted when you walk in, and the overall tone makes it feel like you're inconveniencing them just by being there. I told them multiple times I had a head injury from a concussion and the lack of care was very concerning how abrasively they washed and handled my head. My most recent appointment was a complete failure. I asked for a warm, golden brown and came prepared with multiple reference photos. While the color was processing, I clearly flagged that it was pulling purple. That concern was dismissed, and the product was left on longer. The result was the darkest my hair has ever been, almost black with a cool, purple hue. The exact opposite of what I requested. The color job is all mismatched, the lower part of my hair significantly darker, the roots are sloppy and uneven. When I pointed this out, the response was defensive and dismissive. At one point, I was sarcastically asked if I wanted to "bleach it," which is an inappropriate and careless suggestion for already fine hair. It was mind blowing to have this handled so poorly and then be rushed through a cut that does not look anywhere close to the quality of the past cuts. I followed up requesting a refund, given that this will take months to correct and fade, and received no response for over 48 hours. It's not even about the money - it's about the severe lack of respect. What's most surprising is that this level of defensiveness and lack of accountability was unacceptable, especially after such a grave mistake. Instead of thoughtful adjustment and ownership, the response was dismissive in the moment and silent afterward. Mistakes happen. How they're handled is what defines a business. This was not handled well. NYC has no shortage of salons that can deliver both technical skill and professionalism. This is not one of them. Updating this with a pic and additional NYC HAIR SALON SEO terms so future customers are warned since the salon has decided to block me after no satisfactory resolution. The pic at the top right was me pre-hair f*** up. Only come to this salon if you'd like to come home and cry.

I went back recently to bleach my hair and I was so shocked by how good it came out - and in only 4-5 hours! He's definitely a professional and knows what he's doing especially when it comes to dying/bleach/toning and cutting short Asian hair to fit my face shape. I rarely need to tell him to fix or that I'm not satisfied with my hair; I trust his process and he's never failed me.

I asked for ash brown (which I usually get) but I got a way lighter color than expected and the bleach (he went over the bleach twice) really damaged my hair. On top of that, they charged me for a haircut I never asked for. During the balayage, the stylist cut/thinned (no idea what he did because he never asked me) some of my hair (maybe 10 "snips"?) and they later charged me an additional $70 for the "haircut." This really pissed me off because in the middle of my appointment, I even heard an assistant ask in Mandarin "is she getting a haircut?" and the stylist shook his head. I was really unhappy with my hair that I went to get a hair treatment (for the dry, damaged hair) and toner at a different salon a week later. That stylist even asked "who did your hair?"

My hairdresser was wonderful. Great shampooing job and she was very precise and careful when cutting. Also good at communicating and making sure I was happy with the cut. My haircut was $65, but be warned: if you do the "haircut and blow dry" it's $130. To be honest I don't even know what that means because she dried my hair... with a blow dryer... I guess she didn't style it? But anyways, if you're just looking for a basic cut make sure to communicate that so you don't accidentally double the cost of your haircut. The interior was super clean and everyone there was very friendly. The woman working the front offered me water, tea, or coffee when I arrived and hung my coat in the back.

Before starting, we both agreed that the length was good (she'd just trim split ends) and that she'd reduce the layers I already had. She ended up cutting a lot more than we agreed, and I have lots of layers (more than before, that feel a little choppy). This isn't what I asked for at all, and I'm especially unhappy because we agreed on what to do before, and I mentioned I have a family wedding coming up and I wanted to make sure my hair is what I wanted leading up to it.
