VERY ANGRY. Angelo Torres did my hair. I was going for a bleach session, typically only can be achieved in 6 hours. HOWEVER, he rushed through the whole thing and only did 3 hours, kept telling me HE DOESNT HAVE TIME but will achieve what i want. I now have ORANGE AND UNEVEN HAIR. No foils, and bleached only one side of my hair when i wanted to GET RID of my base color. The staff gave me weird reactions and made me feel very uncomfortable. Charged me 300+ dollars and gave me nothing but terrible hair. WORST EXPERIENCE!!!!! read more

I purchased a gilt city deal for a haircut and added on a toner. The service here was very professional. Jason gave me such a wonderful cut. I have bleached hair and I felt that it has a lot more bounce and texture. I felt that the quality of the products are great, and the actual decor of the studio is not what I expected at all. It feels like you are in someone's apartment and that was great. It was a nice and homie vibe. When I called to make appointments everyone on the phone was very friendly. Original & Mineral is such a lovely place. I came here as a hair model and I really love the atmosphere. I wasn't being treated like I was just there as someone who was being used as an experiment, but as if I was a paying customer. And who ever did the interior set up for the salon really knew how to make a salon feel like home. When I walked in I was greeted by a receptionist and she asked me if I had an appointment. After that another employee, I'm going to assume she's a salon assistant or something, greeted me and helped me hang my coat up and offered to bring me some refreshments. She also helped me put on a cape and lead me to a chair with a wide table. I soon learned that that's where clients get their hair done if it were a dye job. There's a separate station for haircutting and I definitely think it's the cutest set up ever. It feels more casual and maybe even intimate if you were talking to your stylist. Some of the clients that were already getting their hair done were also using their laptops while sipping their drinks. There were also magazines you can read through, some nice decor like flowers and some styling products spread out. After a little bit of waiting I was greeted by a stylist that was going to bleach my hair. The process was about two or three hours long which was typical for most salon trips. I have to say their bleaching products weren't as painful as I expected. In fact, it didn't hurt for a long period of time either. I've only bleached my hair very few times and I was in a lot of pain throughout the whole process. Original & Mineral's bleaching product was such a light pain on my head and it disappeared really quickly after a while. It smells really good too. Actually all their products smelled nice. After the bleach set in I was lead to a washing station and had my hair washed and toned...etc? I'm not sure what products are used after bleaching honestly, but they did use one or three different products to wash my hair in. Right after that I was lead back to the table for a blow dry and light styling. I'm very happy with how my hair came out. It was definitely a great experience and I'm so happy with everything. Even though I didn't really talk to my stylist, I overheard others chatting and I could tell the employees were super friendly and caring. I've been here before and thought it was okay - Nothing spectacular. However this time around as I'm trying to book an appointment I can't seem to even get ahold of the place! I called 5 times over 4 days (left messages of course) and even messaged on Instagram and can't get ahold of anyone. I'm editing this from 3 to 5 stars. After I wrote my below review O&M called me within an hour to come back for a complimentary service (thanks to Jason, who is amazing). Jason is truly a talented stylist! Go to him before he gets too popular! My hair looks so great and is the perfect shade of blonde. Very impressive for only half head balayage. I'll definitely be going back again! Original: It was just okay. I had a gilt city deal for partial highlights (balayage) and they were not terrible but were but were not very strong. They have now faded a great deal, and the highlights that are left have faded to a slightly orange color only a month later. The last time I got balayage it lasted 4 months. I have wavy hair so the slight orange isn't that big of a deal, but if I wore it straight all the time you could definitely see the orange tint it has faded to. If I would have paid full price I would be much more regretful but you get what you pay for with gilt city. Another thing is if you are someone that likes to relax while getting your hair done don't go here. They make you sit at a crowded communal table while receiving your service and I found it stressful and chaotic. Positive note the blowout was great. read more

Great great great. Paprika colored my hair today. First of all this is a clean color salon so no chemical smell to the color and better for your hair. It's also a very pretty, calm vibe place. Paprika is a newer stylist and has reduced rates for now and did a great job. She does both cut and color but I just had color with some hair painting. Nice teas and coffee offered. Light filled place with lots of plants and natural materials. Feels homey and fresh. Very much up my alley and a great place to come to if you want a relaxing experience. Literally worst haircut I have ever gotten in NYC. If you have naturally curly hair, stay away. When I left my hair looked great, but I of course not tell anything about the cut (which was supposed to be just a few inches of a trim), as it was straightened and curled on the bottom via curling iron. I just blew it out myself and straightened it pretty stick straight which is how I wear it the most often, and oh my goodness. The right side has a weird attempt at a face framing layer that is unevenly between 2.5 - 5 inches shorter overlaid over my longer hair, there is like a bowl cut to the layer; it's an attempt to be a straight layer across but completely fails in some areas. Then the left side has the same except just has a shorter like 2 - 4 inch layer. I will now need to get a lot of extra inches cut off to fix this or need to let it grow out to keep my hair straight. Or I guess just hide it by curling it every day which I don't have the time or patience to do. Wow. Not what I expected from this place at all. Never again. read more

I had a partial balayge done with Jason, who proved to be the best colorist I have ever had. He was thoughtful and helpful during my consult and then worked his magic. Best of all was that he was familiar with PPD allergy, which I have, and went the extra mile to ensure that no color products ever came in contact with my skin (even though all of the salon's products are PPD-free, which is SO amazing). After some horrific experiences at other salons, whose stylists were not knowledgable about chemical sensitivities, I am so thrilled to have found such a thoughtful and skilled stylist. I really owe this place a stellar review. I came in here with a Gilt City deal, only to find out that my hairstylist from Seattle, William Scott Blair, works here now! I was beyond thrilled. Now I have finally found my home salon in New York... it only took me three years. Everything about the salon is wonderful. The style is chic and minimal and they play good music, the people who greet you are nice and offer to get you something to drink, they wash your hair and give you a head massage from heaven, and that's before scissors even touch your hair. Also, their products are really nice and smell WONDERFUL. As for the cut, William really listens to what you want and always delivers. He is wonderful at what he does, and treats it as an art form, but is also not a hair snob who would look down on you if you want something low maintenance. I walked in not sure what to expect but found a really fun, relaxed envorinoment, I was lucky enough to have Janelle handle both my color and cut. Janelle was warm, gracious, and- oh my god -talented. I've searched for the perfect red hair color forever and have always felt that the colorist was never able to hit the right tone without it looking cheap or too over the top. The red I have now is so beautiful, luxurious and really perfect. Janelle cut my hair as well into this long incredible style. She was able to really guide me to the perfect style.
