She was very nice and friendly. Offered me a tea, hanged my coat, and lead me to the seat. I Showed her the style I wanted and it came out pretty good. The only part I didn't like was they wash my hair prior to my cut instead of after. So I had to go home and washed it again because all the cut/loosen hair was in between. read more

What a hidden surprise the place is! My best friend has been seeing Angelica for quite some time here. I live literally on the next town over but never had an interest in trying Salon Pavel because I was a die hard fan of my gal and salon in NYC. Well, that was until Recently. Last year I wasn't able To go to my usual gal in the city due to CoVid for my hair. Tried a place in Northvale that was OK but no WOW factor. To be honest-I'm a hard person to WOW especially when it comes to hair. I finally decided to try my best friend's suggestion and booked a time with angelica via IM on her IG page. She was Able to accommodate me in a timely manner and even came in especially early for me. I came in, showed her a picture if what I wanted and even though ti wasn't exactly what she was expecting she said-'no problem' and started doing her thing immediately. She is by far one of the BEST colorists, stylists and beauty profesional I have had the pleasure of encountering. She is sassy, stylish, patient, fast, creative, sincere, responsible and so much more. Yes, I noticed this all in the 1/2 Day I was there. (I was there longer than expected bc I asked for something that took longer than originally scheduled for and it was super busy that day). During my time there, Angelica encountered a very, very rude and disrespectful, condescending client. This client basically reamed the entire salon out because her high school daughter had waited a merely 15 minutes prior to being attended to. Angelica handled the situation in a timely manner, made the young lady look absolutely stunning and was prompt, calm, professional and needless to say-was an angel to the client(s). The client still walked about on time despite waiting a little bit to be called on. Needless to say, I was in awe when I left the salon after seeing Angelicas magic on me and others!! I posted pictures online and everyone raved about my new hair! All of my face to face encounters said the same thing! I have recommended her to someone else recently who was also happy with her. Called yesterday and they were able to squeeze me in for an early appointment today. Asked for highlights and some purple color for dimension. Aneta was very polite but also straightforward stating she was not expecting a double process and would not have time before her next appointment. We would do the highlights and go from there. I appreciated her honesty because I would rather a stylist be honest instead of agreeing to do something and rushing through the whole process. Aneta used foils and even did a little freehand highlights with the leftover bleach at my ends. Martha washed and glazed my hair to perfection. Honestly, so happy with the results and glad I didn't get the purple because I am currently living for this color, really complements my natural hair and skin color.. Dishonest and abusive. As a lawyer, I have seen my fair share of sketchy individuals but I am nevertheless shocked at the predatory behavior of the cheats running Salon Pavel. Not only did my stylist not do what was asked of her (more on this later), but they charged me an egregious amount of money for what they did. They charged me nearly $1000 above market price for my treatment after being purposefully elusive about the price and performing services I did not ask for in order to drive up the price. I have for years visited countless salons for hair extensions and have never experienced anything like this. I came in to get my hair extensions pulled up (I even brought my own hair so this should've made the session cheaper!). Hair extensions prices are not listed on their website's price list and their website says "Since everyone has different needs, a one-on-one consultation with our stylist is required." Salon Pavel, however, was purposefully elusive about the price and remained so even when they were asked what the price would be half-way through my treatment (they refused to even give me an estimate!). I assume this is because they knew that I would have stopped the treatment then had they given me a realistic estimate. Any decent salon that is going to charge over $1200 for a treatment would have told their customer the price beforehand or at the very least during the treatment when asked. Not only were they elusive about the price but they purposefully tried to put in more extensions than I asked for in order to charge me as much as possible. I had asked for the extensions I had in already to be replaced with the new hair I brought in, and for them to add some more new hair but to not add too many such that my head became overcrowded. My stylist pulled up nearly ALL of my old ones instead of swapping them for the new ones (they charge per extension they pull up) and then added nearly all of the new ones too (which were mostly meant to replace the old ones)! Now my hair is overcrowded, not the color I wanted (I wanted them to be the color of the new extensions) AND I had to pay an exorbitant amount. Finally, my stylist did not even trim my natural hair so that they match the length of the extensions. Truly shoddy and dishonest work. Any hair stylist would agree that over $1200 for pulling up hair extensions is egregious. When I asked around, people I know who live in the town said this salon is known for their predatory behavior. I learned this the hard way. I am not in the habit of leaving bad reviews but I felt it was my duty to warn others of this salon. read more

This is a very pleasant salon. During the pandemic they accommodated me with an early morning appointment with Anneta who cut my ( straight hair ) several times.. no issues. She said she was a master colorist and could duplicate my color after I showed her pics of myself pre -pandemic. Unfortunately , the first time was bad and second time she tried to correct with highlights and it seemed that she really was struggling ... after several hours I left with fried red hair. Pavel arranged for another colorist to try to correct but 6 mo later I'm still growing out severely damaged hair and missing hair in front that broke off. I've had my hair colored / highlights for 30 years with never any issues. I just think she's not a good colorist, so leaving this review so you are forewarned. read more

They took advantage of me! I am visiting the United States from Paris with my fiancee. We visit Salon Pavel and they took advantage of me, charge me $1300 when my American friends who are experienced with the hair say it should be at most $400-500. When I ask about the price before the treatment is done, Salon Pavel will not tell me. They only tell me the price when it is time to pay. I ask my American friends about it and they say I should leave a bad review because I was taken advantage of. Maybe because I am foreigner and they hear my accent, they want to take advantage of me. Also, their salon is not even nice, especially not for the crazy price they charge. They do not offer any drinks and the color hair my fiancee asked for is not what she got. I naturally have dark brown hair with faded red dye and I've been wanting to go blonde for the longest time. I luckily came across Pavel from Yelp reviews at 2 in the morning and I knew I really wanted this hair dyed that day. So I gave a call at 10 AM to see if they were willing to undertake something so time consuming and drastic and luckily I was able to set an appointment at 11:30 AM the same day. Everyone is very friendly there and they really care about what they do. When I met with Pavel, he was very kind and straightforward with what expectations I should have considering it wasn't my natural hair color he was working with. Although it would be difficult and long, he said he would do the best he could to achieve what I wanted and if it didn't turn out that way he'll do whatever to get it to look normal again. It was a risk on both sides but I decided to go for it. With 20 years of experience, Pavel knows what he's doing and I'm glad I trusted him because the hair color turned out great. You can tell Pavel really cares about his work and really cares about the people he works with. I don't even know where to start, but this place is amazing! I've been doing my research for hair extensions, and Salon Pavel was one of the places i've gone to visit to see for consultation and everything. Out of all the hair dressers I've met, Pavel was the most descriptive, detailed, understandable, and reasonable person i've meet as a hairdresser. We talked back and forth about the history of my hair, and what would be the best technique for it and the pricing. For every step he was taking, he explain why he was using certain chemical for my hair, what it does, what he is going to do, and etc. Very professional. He told me to let him know if there was any discomfort, but that never happened because he was very careful about everything. The whole process took about an hour and a half since I decided to do tape-on extensions because that was the best for me and suited to what I was looking for. The quality is 100% virgin hair, and the color matched me so well! He blended my real hair and the extension hair perfectly. I've gone to one place before, in NY, but that other hairdresser didn't even have my hair color, and told me I had to pay for shipping fee (and this guy was not going to dye the hair extension for me). This salon suffers from appointment mismanagement. My appointment was not on time and after I got my cut and was in the middle of blow dry, my stylist was called off to another client. She did not finish my drying and finishing the cut. I was transferred to the assistant who did a very poor job. I did not get any final touch ups to my cut which is what usually should happen after the blow dry. When I got home I had to wet my hair and do the blow dry all over. I have had my haircut by Jackie for years and over the years I have also had to start having my hair colored...alas, aging. Needless to say Jackie does my color beautifully every time. I have moved abroad and when I visit home I come in for a cut and color. My daughter comes here as well and Jackie most recently fixed what my dark brown haired daughter did to herself...she colored it blonde. I've been going to Salon Pavel to see Lois and cannot say enough good things about my results! She and a few other girls even did my hair and my bridesmaids hair for my wedding. I walked in and was very nervous because i have had bad experience with a different salon. I had met pavel and he gave me an hour long education about different hair extensions, he asked me when I wanted to get my hair done and I had asked pavel when would be a good time he said what about today, I was a little apprehensive about getting them done that day he said to me think it over, conclusion was to get my hair done that day, I was in his chair maybe about 3 hours and I had went from clip in hair extensions to permanent hair extensions and he honored my Groupon by giving 200 off my hair extensions. My second time going was just a week ago, I had called to ask if pavel was going to be in and someone had said he's off till Monday I had gotten a call from the receptionist, saying pavel is available today come in, I had come in and said my own natural hair needs to lightened and I needed a new hair weave. He said I could wait or get them done that day again I choose that day, I was in the salon 4 or so hours with getting the extensions removed and my hair lightened and my new hair extensions and I'm beyond happy, I cannot wait to go back to Him in the fall and do something different with my hair. I go here for my eyebrows. Naz is amazing. The first time they looked incredible. But the second time my brows looked slightly uneven, but they still look great. Naz really takes her time and cares about her clients. She is a perfectionist, which is an amazing thing. She can tell if you're in pain or uncomfortable, without you saying anything, and she works around it to ensure you aren't suffering. I've never had someone truly take their time while doing my eyebrows so it's such a luxury experience. Yes, kind of pricey.. $25. But soooo worth it. Before Naz, my eyebrows used to grow in within 4 days. I don't know what she does but now it takes at least a week to start seeing any hairs. She's a goddess. If I could give zero stars I would! I had the absolute worse experience I have ever had at a salon. I made an appointment for a cut and highlights/color. Before: Waist length hair, long layers, single process colored (roots), very thick and healthy except for split ends. Color: The foils highlight process was fine, but The stylist/colorist was EXTREMELY sloppy, applying globs of color from a squeeze bottle to my roots. The color was dripping everywhere - my face, eyes, ears. The solution was some cotton shoved under my hairline. The entire time I was waiting for the color to finish, I was cleaning drips of color from my face, eyes, ears, clothes. I was also concerned the highlights were in too long. I was right, my hair was so bleached, and she had to add additional color glazing to darken my hair. She also applied more color to the non-highlighted hair, other than what was applied to the roots. Cut: When I walked in I had waist length hair. I told the stylist/colorist that I only wanted the split ends cut off, maybe 1-2 inches. And I wanted long layers. I walked out with about 6 inches gone. Blow out was fine. Which was apparently hiding the horrible haircut. The next day: I woke up with a burning itching rash everyplace the color had dripped - all along my hairline, forehead, cheek, ears, chest. My hairline, at my temples, was especially bad - swollen like hives. I washed my hair, hoping that would help. When I blew it out, I realized what a horrible cut I had gotten. It was all one length, with two pieces chopped off the front to create "layers". I looked ridiculous. And I know it wasn't my blow out skills - I am a 40-something who has been blowing my hair out for almost 30 years. I know a bad haircut..... And at this point, it was very obvious the highlights were way too light, very striped, and my hair was about 6 different shades. Since then, my hair has been extremely damaged, and no matter what I do it breaks and falls out. So, I paid $240 for the absolute worst cut and color I have ever had, and my hair is the most damaged it has ever been. Even worse than the color and perm days of the 80s. Add in horrible chemical burns... I didn't even bother to call to ask for any sort of compensation because I would never ever return to this place. To sum up - my hair is damaged beyond repair, worst cut and color ever. I was always complimented on the length, health and style of my hair. No longer - I now have horrible, multi-colored fried, shoulder length hair. My friends have said absolutely nothing, which means it is bad - I regularly received compliments from them. Avoid this place if you want to keep your hair and keep it healthy. I do have pictures and am happy to send them to anyone. read more

I have been a customer here for about 9 months, after randomly finding this salon online and calling to speak with stylist prior to making an appointment to come in for extensions and color. After living in Bergen county for 9 years, I have finally found a salon that is the best at everything, from extensions (which they do for me) to color and cut, their service is the best I have personally had from all the salons I have been to. Their prices are reasonable and their pro hairstylists are all very experienced and excellent at what they do. The salon and restroom are always clean, snacks, coffee, pampering service - exactly what a salon should be, WITHOUT breaking your wallet like some of these Bergen County places with city prices. This is a long overdue review. Pavel did my hair long before he had his own salon. He was - and is, I can see from others reviews, accommodating, informed, and attentive to what your needs and wants are, and makes them happen. As someone with...difficult hair - to say the least! - he was able to work with it as if it was nothing out of the ordinary. He is a master of the Japanese straightening technique and would rinse the product before my hair lost all of it's curl, leaving it with body and no frizz. Unfortunately, there are few stylists out there who can manage to do that with even blow-out. In terms of color? He's a genius and knows how to make subtle adjustments in shade that would make people swear this was the color you were born with. He is passionate about his work and keeps up with new developments in the field. For example, the magic he works with hair extensions. If I was back in the NY/NJ area, he is the ONLY one I would trust to match extensions to my existing hair and make it fabulous. read more
