I was originally looking for a place for my mom to get a color and cut - she needed grey coverage and a trim for dead ends. Hazel was able to take me at the same time, which worked out perfectly. Neither of us felt rushed or like an afterthought, which I've definitely experienced before when stylists take two clients at once and it turns into chaos. My mom has a language barrier so I was translating throughout the consultation, and Hazel was patient the whole way through. She even introduced herself in Japanese which was a sweet touch that didn't go unnoticed! My hair situation: flat, lifeless, and a previous stylist in Seattle had somehow given me a blunt length cut after I explicitly asked for a ton of layers. I have basically zero attachment to my hair - I would happily walk out with a mullet - so when a stylist actually listens during the consultation it makes a real difference. Hazel asked the right questions and the result showed it. Dry cut, tons of layers, styled dry so I could see the shape come together in real time. Walked out with volume I didn't know my hair was capable of. The salon is a nice airy space with big windows, way more relaxed than your average spot. One of the other stylists has a dog that hangs around - great bonus if you're into that. Already booked and attended my second appointment. I know I'll be back for more. read more

I've been going to Mercury Salon for years to have my haircut by Kim Tran, and been very happy with the results. It's a nice, comfortable, clean, environment and street parking is usually easy. Took my mom to see Arianna to have a hair cut and Brazilian blow out. I love her bubbly personality, her smile and her attitude. She is very professional yet she is very sweet. She asked my mom what she wants and she asked me if she can give her a very feminine haircut to make my mom happy. My mom had the biggest smile on her face after everything was done. I haven't seen my mom smiling like this after a hair appointment in over a year. So to me that's a blessing and success. DO NOT GO SEE SOFIA. As soon as I started my appointment I stressed to her how many years I had been working to grow my hair out, how much I hated a shorter length on myself and how I wanted to keep as much length as possible. She agreed, and held up about 2 inches when showing my how much she wanted to take off and I agreed. SHE TOOK OF 5 INCHES. Very nice lady but did not listen to me at all and ruined my years of hard work. I've cried 3x since my haircut yesterday, do not go see her. read more

I had Salon Mercury bookmarked for a year since I frequent the Greenwood and Phinney Ridge neighborhoods. My former stylist moved way up north and for a year I let my crazy hair go and only trimmed the ends. But with a professional conference coming up, I really needed a major cleanup! Cleanup on aisle 5, lol. I used Salon Mercury's handy website from the Yelp bookmark and was able to book a Saturday slot for two hours later (10/12/19). Convenient. Never been here before. I was a bit early, hoping to also spend some time next door at Coyle's Bakeshop, but it was closed. Gave me an opportunity to check this place out. Interior of the salon had lots of natural light and a pair of sparkly chandeliers. Nice artwork arranged throughout the salon. Real urban vibe without being too loud. I still remember a DJ spinning tunes at a long shuttered salon in downtown Seattle. Haircut needed, not dance club. Talk about establishing trust and rapport with a total stranger! I was literally and figuratively in good hands with Caroline. She listened patiently to a brief history about my crazy hair, assessed it thoroughly, provided a relaxing shampoo, and then I just chilled out for some long overdue me time. Gave her free rein to let her work her magic. Final results gave me a much polished, easy care new look. Terrific outcome and nothing like the worst last minute 'do from decades ago, dubbed the Svetlana Seven Dollar Super Special. It was mortifying at the time. None of that here. Okay Sean Bates has done my hair twice now and it's exactly what I ask for and looks beautiful! First time wanted to go darker and boom beautiful shades of Dark Blonde.. Three months later I wanted to go blond and boom back to a blonder shade with so much dimension... I can't say enough good things ! I happen to walk into to the Salon to see if I could make an appointment, and Heidi responded to me of her availability. I came back at the time scheduled and showed Heidi a photo of a hairline/style I was looking for and she detailed what she needed to do to achieve the length and shape. An hour later I walked out of the salon feeling I got one of the best cuts and service, and felt lucky to have met Heidi. She is a good listener and and an experienced hairstylist! I followed George over to Salon Mercury from his previous shop at Rudy's Phinney Ridge. SO. MUCH. BETTER. Salon Mercury has a whimsical neighborhood vibe that fits Greenwood so well! Its more spacious, very clean, and the atmosphere is so welcoming and positive. They feature local artists on the walls, have an array of products they sell, and offer tea, coffee, and water. George now has his own brand, Adequate Haircuts (love the name btw), and his prices are still reasonable. A couple words on George - very skilled at what he does, is an excellent listener, and somehow is not intimidated by my massively thick hair. Good stylists and salons are hard to find- highly recommend checking out this great addition to Greenwood. Also doesn't hurt that he is so close to Coyle's Bakery and the USPS. Perfect trio of errands - post office, haircut, coffee & baked goods. Loving it. read more

I came in for my first appointment today and Amanda was so freakin amazing! Color, cut, everything was perfect, she's incredibly sweet and I don't care where I move, I'm driving back here to have her do my hair. The vibe/decor in here is.....interesting? Her station was cute and there was an overall industrial/vintage chic feel which is cool but it was kinda odd that this higher end salon had this makeshift kids clothing boutique at one station (maybe there's someone here who only sees kids??) and there are these giant standing trophies at another one that kinda feel like they belong in a high school gym. I see Amanda Joy at Salon Mercury and have for many years. In fact, my whole family now sees her from my elderly mom to my husband and kids. She's been giving us all hip, stylish haircuts that hold up very well over time. She's fantastic with my kids - even when they were very little and squirmy. Plus she's a fun and lovely person to spend an hour with. She's also done color for me in the past and made me feel way cooler than my actual age warrants. She's precise and a perfectionist. My favorite thing is that my kids hair grows out so well in between cuts, in perfect shape, helping me stretch those little kid haircuts. read more

Walked in for a haircut at 730pm, closing time 9. Three employees. All saw me. Two cutting hair, one sitting in the back. Sat down, waited 10 minutes, another customer came in, the guy in the back said "how you doing bud" and took him immediately, I suspect he had an appointment? Not sure because until then no one acknowledged my presence. A minute later one of the ladies cutting hair turned and asked what I was there for, "a haircut hopefully," I explained. She responded that she didn't think there was any more availability so I left. Can't speak for the quality of the haircuts but certainly don't seem to care about potential customer''s time. read more

I really really wanted to give this place a higher rating because I read all the reviews before going here but unfortunately I left trying not to cry. I am sure that all the other stylists are amazing but if you go here I would not recommend Kim. She was nice but said a lot of extremely hurtful comments to me. There was a huge language barrier so I wonder if that was the major problem but she cut my hair way shorter than I wanted it to be. I said light layers and she practically gave me bangs. I take a chemotherapy drug for an autoimmune disease I have and she kept commenting on my hair loss, how thin my hair was, and how damaged it was. This is already a huge insecurity for me so she just made things worse. She also kept telling me how beautiful I was but that my old haircut made me look heavy. By most peoples standards I am not a heavy person but I do struggle with a severe eating disorder and body dysmorphia. Overall it was just really terrible and I would not ever want anyone else to have that experience. I'm giving it two stars because I'm sure that the other stylists are amazing. I just wouldn't recommend Kim. Also her station was really gross and looked like nothing had been cleaned. There was other peoples hair in some of her brushes which grossed me out. I've been getting my haircut from Salon Mercury owner, Sean, since 2009, back when it was still called Sugarcomb Salon. I think it was Easter Sunday and I just walked in. Even though he had a family engagement to attend, he still took me in and gave me a nice cut that wasn't rushed. Since then, I've recommended Sean to several of my own clients because he takes the time to listen to the kind of haircut or hairstyle you want, as well as what you have going on in your life (big events, vacations, wedding, etc.) that might need to be factored in. His technical ability is outstanding--I've never been nervous in his chair. Beyond that, Sean is just a really friendly person. I enjoy visiting him, and haircuts feel more like catching up with a friend than a regular service. For a little more than what you'd pay for a men's haircut at a local chain, I feel Sean delivers much better service and overall experience. read more

I decided to visit Sean at Salon Mercury after reaching out to several friends for recommendations. I received recommendations for several salons in Seattle, but went with Sean because 1) the friends that recommended him have great hair styles and 2) the price is reasonable ($50) for an experienced stylist (who is also the owner). I can't say enough good things about Sean. He is a nice guy, easy to talk to, has great skills, and offered some helpful styling suggestions to help me after listening to me explain the frustrations I have with my bangs. I came in wanting straight across bangs, but he courteously explained why that look wouldn't be as flattering as deeper and longer side bangs. The best part was that he didn't rush me to make a decision. He started cutting the rest of my hair first while I had some time to decide, which totally removed any pressure of making a decision on the spot. When it came time to decide he even pulled in another stylist for a second opinion. I got a lot of personal attention and I was valued as a client. I ended up going with the side bangs as Sean suggested.The best part is I really love my haircut - from the moment he finished styling it to now (three weeks later). I have wavy hair and the way he cut it works well both when I style it wavy and straight, which has never happened for me before. Thank you, Sean, for fixing my love-hate relationship with my bangs! If I could give no stars, i would. Walked by the salon and they had a "Walk Ins Welcome!" sign outside. My daughter had just returned from backpacking around Europe all summer and was desperate for a haircut. We walked into the salon. It wasn't busy. There was a stylist in her chair looking at her cell phone and another women working around in the back. There were no customers in shop. The woman on her phone swung around to face us while still seated and I asked her if my daughter could get an appointment scheduled for a haircut. She said each stylist schedules their own appointments, so we'd have to book with the person we wanted. I asked her how we could do that and she told me to look someone up online. It was awful and we were clearly interfering with her break time or whatever it was she was doing on her phone, so after a little more conversation, in which it was clear she wasn't interested in helping us, we quickly left with no intention of going back. My daughter got an appointment at nearby R&R Salon, she said they were WONDERFUL and it was the best haircut she's ever had. So grateful we were treated so poorly by Salon Mercury that we found R & R! So I guess, thank you? read more

I started getting my hair cut by Keli at Salon Mercury about six months ago and couldn't be happier. Keli does a great job at a reasonable price. The salon is friendly and comfortable, with lovely paintings of the Beatles on the wall. read more
