I went yesterday, Monday, September 7, as a walk-in to have my builder gel removed and get a gel manicure. An older gentleman assisted me. Before starting, I communicated that my index finger was sensitive because I had recently bent it. I also explained that I wanted to try to keep some of my length, while understanding that some of my nails were fragile and that he might need to shorten them. He immediately seemed visibly frustrated. He cut my nails and then asked if the length was okay. I reiterated that my goal was to keep as much length as was appropriate, particularly so I could maintain an almond shape. We continued with the service. When it came time to choose a color, I asked if we could try one color and, if I didn't like it, potentially switch to another. He seemed frustrated by this and asked why we would have to do that. At that point, I stayed quiet, but I will admit that my guard was already up. He applied the first coat on one finger, and although I was hesitant about the color, I said we could proceed with that hand. After the first coat was applied to one hand, I asked if we could instead put two coats of another color over it to make the color lighter. I've had this done at other salons without any issue. The nail technician immediately became very upset and said it wasn't possible, that he would have to redo the entire thing, and that I shouldn't have told him to continue with the first color. He raised his voice at me. I acknowledge that I eventually raised my voice as well because I was extremely frustrated. I even pushed my chair back to gain space. I told him that he didn't need to have an attitude or speak to me that way and that I was doing my best to remain calm. He then said he didn't want me to get my nails done, make a complaint, and come back to have the service changed. I explained that I was specifically trying to avoid that situation, but at that point, the interaction had already ruined the experience for me. I told him I just wanted to finish the service and leave with the color that was already on my nails. He continued trying to convince me that the color looked fine. By that point, I had enough and told him to drop it and that I wanted us to continue the service in silence. He made several more attempts to reference the color, and I reiterated that this had already become a bad experience and that I simply wanted to finish my service. And now, less than a day later, my gel polish is already CHIPPING. Gel polish should absolutely not be chipping the very next day. Overall, I would not recommend this salon based on my experience. The attitude and customer service were extremely disappointing. I was very shocked that the manager or supervisor did not step in or intervene but instead them and the other nail techs just observed. I also want to point out that, even with pedicures, they do not appear to use liners or provide new individual tools such as clippers, nail pushers, buffers, etc., the way other salons I've been to do. That's another reason I personally would not return. If you're in the area, I would recommend checking out Nailosophy or Purity Nail Bar instead. I honestly regret not going to one of them.

Now, my opinion of my pedicure. With the regular pedicure you get this nice orange calf scrub. Smells so good, doesn't last long less then 30 sec each leg. It is followed up with a hot stone massage and hand massage which is way more than 30 secs. Ana is so good at it, I wanted to sleep. So I made a mistake and guess didn't tell her I needed my toes even so I was apologizing. This woman came from a far with attitude, I said no need I didn't tell her I'm apologizing. Then she gave me this you better be look. That was wild, it was not Ana. She was a peach the whole time. My pedicure is beautiful, I like it here.

When she was polishing my nails, I noticed a tiny hair at the tip of one of the nails. When I told her about it, she polished over it. Of course, the hair was still there. I mentioned it again and she polished it again. I finally held my finger in another direction so she could see what I was trying to tell her, and she eventually understood and removed the hair. She did a good job with the gel manicure, but I probably won't return.

A teenage boy started with my pedicure. but he kept going…read moreback and forth to the reception, the entire time wearing the gloves he was wearing for my pedicure. so gross but whatever, he did fine with everything except he took about an hour before he started painting my nails. then when he did, he took so long and such a bad job, his mom (the owner?) came over and took off the almost finished polish off all my toes and restarted completely. She also recut my nails and cut they way way way too short that they have been hurting for days now. and she redid my polish and than a man starts doing my mani. he wasn't really watching when using the file machine thing, and hurt me a couple times. and then he soaked my nails in alcohol with tin foil wrapped around my fingers. He did this twice, and the second time he definitely left them on for way too long that i almost said something. But most importantly he put so much alcohol in each tinfoil wrapping that it was splashing everywhere. all over my seat, clothes, and all over my hands. i've never had someone put so much alcohol in the tinfoil before and be so careless about it. then the lady (the owner?) did my full dip manicure. she didn't really do a good job. i did a plain pink color. and i didn't ask for extensions or anything. she had to redo 3 nails and kept trying to fix her mistakes but they ended up with a very splotchy top coat. Then after being there from 11:15-2:15 for a mani pedi, they charged me $95, i didn't know how much they charged tbh and i needed to go. but then after i paid, the guy said its actually $85, he had to refund me and i had to repay. so overall it was bad for a basic mani pedi situation, i wouldn't go back or recommend at all. update: it's been 4 days since i got my nails done and 3 of nails have already chipped...

He brought over a case for me to pick and I picked one I really liked, and he told me he couldn't do it, and if i wanted it he can get someone to do it for me. I said that was fine. 2 mins later after he kept looking at the design he tells me it'll actually be 7 dollars for that design...why? I didn't ask but i figured he didn't want to do it. He attempted to do it and could not do it. He brought over a girl to do it, and she says in vietnamese to him "you should have just told her, that her nail was too small to do that design." and he says "I tried but it didn't work"...umm no you didn't... She managed to do the design...it looked nothing like that sample but I didn't want to make a fuss.. Overall I enjoyed everything up until the design part. Don't have samples if you can't do them.... He also ended up charging me 6 dollars for the design not 7...So overall 42 for mani/pedi with a design on my index fingers...I've gotten better manicures with better designs for less. But like others said the place is very nicely decorated and the handtowels are a plus.

It's almost two weeks after I got them done and they've held up surprisingly well. The nails I got done in RI, I picked them off after less than a full week, and I hated them to begin with. As the woman was doing my nails at Leisure Nails, she paused after shaping my pinky and asked if I liked the shape. I loved it so freaking much and I told her it was great. Then, all the other nails ended up the same shape and were not lopsided! The nails today are looking a little worse for the wear, but I am kind of rough on them--I pick at them and chew them. Oh, and I just have to mention: my nails were damaged from me picking off the previous set, and the nails they put on have not damaged my nails further! I got them done in a short almond shape and they had OPI's I'm Not Really A Waitress, which is a color I highly recommend. I had ordered a medium-length set online, but when I got the nails done and went to pay they informed me that what I had gotten was actually short. They made sure to not overcharge me, which I appreciated. I also appreciated that they didn't charge me the fee for getting something different than what I ordered online, which I was worried about, because I didn't know what were short vs medium nails and I just guessed. Anyway, I am very happy with the nails. Oh also I did almost have a panic attack while they were doing them, but that had nothing to do with the service; I just have generalized anxiety disorder. As for the vibe, it's like a normal professional nail salon. What bothered me the most, though, was the attitude of the staff, especially the receptionist and the other employees. I have had my fair share of experiences with salons from NYC to England ! As a 55+ woman, I want a place that makes me look and feel my best. I want a salon that welcomes me when I am at my worst with no judgement as to how I look when I walk through their door!! I came upon Salon Lison because my teenage son needed a haircut for my daughter's wedding the day before Thanksgiving! He had gone to barbers and other salons but needed a place that was calm and quiet with a relaxing atmosphere. I called our of desperation to speak with John. I explained the situation, and he worked him in. ( I have learned they do that with many clients.) Important to note:: I wasn't a client and they treated my son and me like we had been going there for years. His hair cut was the best ever....the atmosphere just wonderful and from that moment, I knew I had found the salon for me!! I have been a client ever since November 2014. I have had my hair (long and curly) cut by John, He is amazing with a scissors and knows how to cut hair. Colored by Lisa, who is fabulous and at times styled /blown out by Ashlee! I have had neck and back surgery so I can't style my own hair but love my hair straight and Ashlee is wonderful. I consulted with Lisa on color...Amazing..I had many, many areas of grey...an area from a prior bad color experience of pure flaming red and my natural dark brown. Without a question, she transformed my hair back to it's natural soft look that I love. So for a personally wonderful experience call and make an appointment. read more

I dont normally right reviews but I thought people should know before going here, the people in the salon where very nice but there where some kinks to the place. My hairdresser cut at least twice of what I asked for off my hair and this is still what i can see with my straightened hair. I have wavy/curly hair so if you do as well you know all about shrinkage so I am very scared to see really how much shorter my hair will be after washing. She also ignored my directions of what I had asked for. I was extremely upset and unhappy with this haircut. I have been growing my hair out for years and in the span of 30 minutes my hair was ruined. She was quite harsh and rushed quite a bit. The haircut was quite painful towards my scalp. I also noticed a couple hours later giant matts of hair in the back of my head, this is normal for me with having curly/wavy hair but usually they take days and not hours to form. I dont know how this happened because I came into the appointment with freshly detangled hair. The overall experience was not very good, I would not recommend and I will not be coming back. read more

I've been going to Salon Lison for a few years now and I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else! It's a family owned business and you can feel that as soon as you walk in. It's more warm, inviting, and personal than other salons I've tried and I love that about it! The owner, Lisa, does my color (she's Board Certified!) and her husband, John, gives me awesome cuts. And I have to say, I read a post on here about him that i TOTALLY disagree with; he is SO nice and friendly and really knows his stuff, I've only ever had great experiences with him! The prices are great especially considering their location and the skill of the stylists. The Salon has a whole store area for products, and a spa that does waxing and facials (again, AWESOME facials!). They do nails, too, and even sell some super cute jewelry:) Definitely try them out! I have been a client at Salon Lison since 2007, and though I am now a student in New York City, I refuse to go anywhere else, and make sure to schedule appointments during school vacations. (It's so worth the wait.) I could sit and write quite a lengthy review about how wonderful the salon is, how accommodating, friendly, genuine, and talented the staff is, or how tastefully decorated (and clean) the salon is, but really anyone who steps foot inside already knows just how high the quality is. I was just in on July 1st for a partial foil and a trim and I still can't believe how fabulous my hair looks. I love sitting in the back in the comfy chairs, with my complimentary Aveda tea (delish), stacks of current magazines, and the relief of real privacy. Personally, I have never experienced a wait. I look forward to seeing you all in six weeks before school starts :) read more

Favorite salon by far! This salon came highly recommended to me by a friend, and because my hair needed a lot of correction, I needed a place that would not further damage my hair. The staff was highly educated and made every effort to listen to me, something that I never experienced in previous salons. I went in with beach blond hair and roots, which when corrected usually turns grey, but my colorist Lisa gave me the most natural look I've ever gotten. The result was a consistent darker blond, even on the ends! The salon is easy to get to, but leave extra time for parking. It's pleasant inside, very clean, and very friendly. They have lots of Aveda products and even though they were busy, they squeezed me in for a brow wax and free hand massage :) I love this place, two thumbs up! read more

This salon is hands down the best i've been to. you'd have to be crazy not to agree. I am a faithful client of the owner, and I couldnt be more pleased with her work. She listens to and does exactly what I want and it comes out flawless every time. I would never think of going anywhere else. I would highly recommend this salon to anyone looking for a new place, or even looking for better results than their current salon. it's easy to get to in Chestnut Hill and I have friends from miles away that come here and love it. All of the employees are friendly, the service is great, and the overall experience is amazing. its clean, timely and there is even a room full of aveda stuff, (my favorite!). I came in for services recently. I was seated into a back corner of the salon for the half hour or so that i had color. When i tried to use the wash room they were out of handsoap . The owner kept insisting i look at jewelry and other items at the front desk and try stuff on. this persistent attitude made me very uncomfortable. This salon is understaffed and over priced. Was not even close to being a pleasure to be at. After my color was rinsed I told the stylist how i wanted my hair cut,it was not what i asked for which is careless.I then declined the finishing blowdry because i was irate. It took another salon a few times to correct their careless mistakes. Your better off traveling out of the area for better service and prices. read more

I highly recommend Salon Lison for their excellent hair cutting, styling and coloring. It's also an Aveda salon and carries the full range of products which are of the highest quality. The aestheticians are highly skilled and offer a long list of services from waxing to various types of facials and makeup consultation. The staff is consistently friendly and helpful, and it's always a pleasure to be at this salon. I've been going there since 2003, and I've been consistently satisfied with every service I've ever had. I discovered Salon Lison a few yrs ago and I'm definitely a fan! Friendly staff, casual and comfortable atmosphere, they do all kinds of service besides hair - facials, mani-pedi, waxing and sell Aveda stuff. Prices are moderate. I have VERY curly, frizzy hair- difficult to cut and style properly, but not for Lisa (owner)- she's great! I've had the Keratin straightening process 4 times now and works better each time, even with my colored hair. Since I moved 45 minutes away, I had to figure out if I should look for a closer salon. I made my checklist and decided it was definitely worth the trip! read more

Everyone at Salon Lison is so friendly, accommodating, and passionate about what they do. Every stylist is incredibly talented and they have such a loyal client base that has been going to them for literally decades. Lisa the owner takes such pride in her work and impeccable treatment of her clients, as well as the work of her other stylists and all clients who enter the salon. She even bakes cake every Saturday for everyone to enjoy! Highly recommend giving them a try - have never left disappointed! I was in town visiting a friend and I needed a haircut, I noticed this salon so I gave it a try, I was very glad I did. Everyone was very friendly and nice, I like salon's that are clean and not run down, I believe if you have pride in the way to present your business you will have pride in your work, which this salon has done. It was a very clean place everything looks well maintained. I received a great haircut just as if I was on Newbury street just not paying those prices, the prices were very reasonable. THE BEST salon in the Boston area! I've been going to Lisa and Esther here for more than 10 years, and have flown back to get my hair done by them when not living in the area... even while I was living in South Beach. They are talented enough to be one of the "Newbury Street salons", but instead have a wonderful friendly atmosphere with far more reasonable prices and personalized service! And since they use Aveda products, my hair has remained extremely healthy and strong. I highly recommend them! read more

I nedded a hair cut and color because my stylist left the place where i used to go. I went to this salon because of the Aveda name,however I was not impressed. I thought if i seen the owner she would do the best job and boy was i wrong. The young shampoo girl was very nice, there was no receptionist so it took 20 minutes to be helped,the salon it self was dusty and not much of a treat to be at. The price I paid? $780!!!!! It was a SINGLE COLOR process to match my dark hair and was suppose to be an edgy A cut (longer in the front, shorter in the back type of bob). What did I get? A GOLDEN BLONDE root and the haircut of Edna from The Incredibles. I kept telling Marco, that isn't the look I was going for. He asked me to be patient for the final result. At the end, when he dried (fried) my hair, he quipped, you look so cute! it's like you put on 15lbs without actually putting any! Well, geez! That's a new type of compliment!! Looking fat without having gained any weight and then paying ridiculous $780 for it! Sasha was defensive of her lousy job by saying she didn't know she had my appointment and she had to be creative (take shortcuts) to keep my appointment and Marco was so full of himself. Absolutely the worst experience, the worst hairstyle and let's not even talk about the price jacking and cheating. There are many better options than this outdated pompous salon.
