I had a really awful experience here and I'm pretty disappointed because other people gave this place great reviews. I wasn't greeted coming into the door- awkward? I actually was asked to stand up during five minutes of my hair cut so my hairdresser could see the length. Um, actually, it's the same length as it is when I sit down. Pump up that chair girlfriend, that's what it's for! My hair dresser sprayed the water bottle IN MY FACE when she was trying to wet my hair. You see, most hairdressers if they are doing this put a hand to shield your face of the water but nope, this lady was relentless and showed no mercy! Then, this really topped the whole thing off for me- my hairdresser actually had the decency to call me UNEDUCATED. WHAT?! Are you serious? Sweetheart, sorry that I missed the news regarding Michigan voting for God knows what and wasn't able to offer an intellectual opinion on the matter. Sorry that I was studying for my NCLEX all week. She literally said, "God, kids these days are so careless and uneducated about what's going on in the world." Oh no, I do care. Sorry I don't care about Michigan voting because I DON'T LIVE THERE. Perhaps if I had one of the hairdressers everyone else was talking about I wouldn't be writing this review. Next time, instead of going for the cheaper option (which lead to a semi-decent haircut at best) I'm dropping the big bills for excellent service. read more

My 2nd visit here & my last. My son had his haircut here & they cleaned up his brows. His hair was fine, but his brows were awful. I had to ask her to fix them. Giving a 2nd chance with my hair: I showed a pic of the length I wanted which was below the jaw. It barely touched my jaw. Too short, and one side noticeably shorter than the other. read more

So, I've never been a fan of paying more than $20 for anything to do with fashion. One boring Sunday, I decided to get my hair cut. Seeing as nothing is open on Sundays, I opted to head down the street to Magic Cuts, and give it a whirl. Like I said, I don't like spending money, and generally I'll just get lazy and ct my own hair. I actually don't know the name of my stylist, but she had blonde hair and an accent, and she was awesome. I just wanted to sauce-up my boring old bob, and she did great! I told her the shape I wanted, and she got it spot-on. I also did the wash/condition/blowout options, since I am very lazy and I figured why not. If you're not totally dead-set on going to some fancy place and spending $50 for a trim, absolutely stop by Magic Cuts. You can get some amazing hair for a fabulous price! read more

When I leave Magic Cuts I look like the best possible me and that's a great feeling. It's almost an even better feeling to know I've accomplished this with as little as twenty dollars. For an Andrew Jackson I get a blowout that is ten times the result of any blowout I've had on Newbury St., and I've been to a whole lot of them. I started going to Magic Cuts approximately three years ago when I moved to Oak Square. I love them so much I've been driving from Andover for the past two of those years. With the exception of one Boylston Street salon where I paid four times the price and dealt with rude snobby staff there is no one who makes me look half as beautiful as Magic Cuts. The stylists at Magic Cuts not only remember who I am but they seem to pick up our conversation exactly where we left off, whether it's been just a few days or several months. Magic Cuts has a lovely ambiance too. Most of the stylists are European and not in a stuck up sort of way but in a very cool interesting way. We always have lots of interesting things to talk about and I find the culture there to be a great bonus. Everyone who works at Magic Cuts is highly capable. I usually see Goar, Tatiana, or Antela... ALL super nice and super amazing stylists.The three of these ladies do wonders with my mass of baby fine hair. I leave with thick looking loose curls and there is no curling iron needed! Ladies with fine hair, you know curling iron curls fall out within two hours. :-( This is certainly "magic" in my book! The stylists I haven't had a chance to see are awesome as well. Tristan's been there for over a year now and although I haven't had the chance to see her personally her clients seem to love her! I've noted that Tristan takes special consideration into giving her clients EXACTLY what they ask for. If you've had problems with stylists not listening to you it might be worth it to give her a call. It sickens me to see Magic Cuts compared to Supercuts. Unfortunately, my experience with Supercuts has been nothing but bottom of the barrel. Supercuts is the slime of the styling industry, little more than already burnt out fresh graduates who really don't care about their clientele and can't seem to get hired anywhere else. THE ONLY THING MAGIC CUTS HAS IN COMMON WITH SUPERCUTS IN THE WORD "CUTS", THE FACT THAT YOU CAN USUALLY WALK IN, AND IT'S AFFORDABLE.. THAT IS IT!!! I have been going to this place on and off for about 7 years. Antilla usually cuts my hair, but if shes not there, I go with the owner (whose name I can NEVER remember, sorry, but she sits on the first chair on the right when you walk in). As a woman, its expensive, but I think its also important to get the most bang for your buck, and spending a lot of money on these things doesnt necessarily mean you get the best of whatever youre buying. Let that be the theme of this review. In high school, I worked as a receptionist at a salon similar to this (like a super cuts). I learned a lot from working there--about how to get the best haircuts for the least money by first asking for the manager, and then figuring out who your favorite stylist is...some of our clients were the wealthiest women in Newton, MA, and they got their haircut at my work, because they are cheap but dont want anyone to know, and no one would have to know because they couldve told their friends they spent $300 on that haircut and no one would have been the wiser. Magic Cuts is $14 (?) for a hair cut, and trust me ladies, you DONT HAVE to spend more than this to get a great cut (as long as its with one of the two stylists I mention above, I can vouche for anyone else). My most memorable experience was when I chopped 8 inches off my hair to get a bob. I had broken up with a guy and just needed a change. I usually got my hair trimmed here, but literally made a decision one night, left my apartment and drove over there with no appointment. Luckily, Antilla was there (who I had never met before) and cut my hair. SHE WAS and STILL IS VERY SLOW so if you're in a rush, and need a quick cut, dont go to her. Make the time and then let her do her magic. The haircut took an hour, but listen; i would rather have someone spend so much time perfecting a cut like this (imperfections with a cut this short are VERY noticeable) and I have never gotten so many compliments no matter where I went. I would reply to peoples compliments telling them I went here and I spent $14 because no one could believe that such a fashionista would spend so little money, but its true. I love my nice things (BMW, gucci bag, louboutins, etc..not trying to brag, just trying to get you to understand the type of person I am), but I do not believe in spending more than you need to. Sometimes I feel weird walking in there because its obvious I don't belong (considering the rest of the clientele), but once you get over that, you wont be disappointed. read more

Been coming here for 8-10 years and they don't remember my name (c'mon now!!!) Had a shortcut where it hurt my sides when they were shaving and it took forever and I guess this was just my final straw. I left with no tip and the lady who cut my hair asked me if it was $18 instead of $15 and said: "No, I crossed the tip line out and it's $15." Found out today that they charged me $18 instead- so long story short even though this place is nearby my place and I've been going for quite some time, I will NOT be giving them any business anymore. read more

Went here instead as a walk in and got my hair cut from its previous way too long stays down to a comfortable shoulder length in under 15 minutes for just $15. Nothing fancy but looks fine and was very efficient. Will go here again. read more

Maybe most people wouldn't consider a Super Cuts knock off chain to have high quality hair cuts but let me tell you, this place is a hidden gem. For $14 I get a great hair cut and for $25 I get a perfect hair color. Gohar, one of the stylist, knows how to work with curly hair and is friendly and accommodating to your needs. There are few places left in this world where your repeat business is remembered but everyone at Magic Cuts remembers you when you go back. read more

I have never written a Yelp review but I had to write because my experience was so bad. I just took my daughter there for her first haircut because the reviews were so good and it was close to my house. I asked for a simple bang trim and figured it would be easy. The woman butchered my one year old's hair. She cut at least two inches off and gave the worst blunt cut, and crooked, that I have ever seen. I left in tears. I could have done a better job with my own scissors. I don't know what to do now because I can't even have it fixed because it is so short. It looks like she cut her bangs off completely. I've never seen a trim take two inches off and I have never seen anyone cut bangs as badly as this. read more

I have gone to Magic Cuts for the past few years and today I am extremely disappointed and I will never come back here again. I have gone here multiple times and most of the times they did a decent to good job in cutting my hair. Today however, it is beyond awful. I am a guy and every time I ask for a 2.5 and leaving more hair on the top they do the cut I want. Today my hair cutter who's Russian I asked to give me a 3 for the top and she used the electric cutter like I requested and cut it so short that it was a 1! My hair was so short and never would I want it this short and it's clear that I never asked for it. She cut the rest and it came out way too short. Then she came off like I told her wrongly, when I said please cut little by little. Additionally, I would not go to this place due to the negative experiences time and time again I had with this place. Now I can't blame this specific hairdresser because most have repeated the same mistakes time and time again. Every single time I go here the hairdresser cuts my ear when cutting the hair nearby. Today I asked the hairdresser to use scissors because every time electric was used my ear was cut. It got cut AGAIN today. I am very disappointed. read more

I didn't want to pay too much for, but at the same time, I didn't want to go cheap and end up with a bad haircut. I walked in to Magic Cuts on a Sunday morning and was accommodated quickly. The woman who cut my hair used scissors for the majority of the cut, except for the back and sides, instead of just buzzing over the whole thing. So my entire family have been coming here for a few years. 2 years ago I got a chemical straightner done here. They totally messed up my hair, it felt like i had a weave and like there was glue on my scalp! they used cheap stuff (revlon) and they refused to believe they screwed up my hair. My ENTIRE family comes here for haircuts and they didn't even offer a refund. Also the owner was there when this whole thing happened. Anyway I was ready to give them one last chance yesterday. I came and there was absolutley no consultation, all there was "how much do you want me to cut?" When she was done the haircut was medicore. But even worst was there rudeness. They never asked me if i wanted a blowdry. I payed and i said "thank you" there was no response, they just turned around.
