I found Cherry on Yelp and messaged her just a few days ahead of the Tuesday night event. She responded with her quote and the relevant details, and after mulling over whether or not to spend the money, I secured the appointment with a deposit the night before. She only had a 1:00 slot available, but she was able to come to me, meeting me in my hotel room. She arrived right on time with an arsenal of beauty supplies. I liked her immediately. She was so friendly and energetic, and said flattering things about my skin, obviously music to my 39-year-old ears. I had a great time hanging out with her. She asked what I was looking for and I said I was walking a red carpet and just wanted to look good. She took me through her overall plan and started with my eye makeup, layering on colors and checking in to see if I was okay with the level of drama. I didn't know enough to weigh in and let her do her thing, and less than an hour later, I was fully dolled up. She even put fake eyelashes on top of my already fake eyelashes. To be honest, I was a little worried at first. I looked very dramatic for two in the afternoon, and I wondered if I'd let her go overboard. Once I was dressed and at the premiere, though, I felt fairly confident and comfortable and got lots of compliments. I walked the carpet, the second time I've done that in my life, and stood and posed awkwardly for a million photos. I've seen the pictures from both events and am really glad I got my makeup done this time around. The bolder makeup just worked better with those bright lights. I'm not professionally pretty (I'm a writer, which is, if anything, an ugly person's job) so it was fun to get my face painted and hang out with the attractive people who go to television premieres. I'm not a…read moreperson that normally wears a lot of make-up and historically, as an Asian woman, I've never really found the make-up that most professional make-up artists have done for me to be unflattering and unnatural; so I originally had grand ambitions of doing everything myself for my wedding. At the VERY last minute (maybe 2-3 weeks out?), after realizing I didn't want to be stressed out and scrambling the day of my wedding trying to put myself together, I decided to try to find someone in the NY area who had experience doing Asian make-up and might be available. I had a really hard time finding make-up artists in the NY/Brooklyn area with this experience and the first person I reached out to was (unsurprisingly) booked, but she passed along Emi's name as someone who could be a good fit and was available. I booked a trial, at which Emi was responsive to my requests and preferences, but also had great recommendations for both my make-up and hair that would look good in photos, feel comfortable, last throughout the day/night, and flatter my features. The day-of my wedding, she 100% hit the mark. I've never felt more beautiful and comfortable with full make-up and hair (normally I don't feel like myself with full make-up and hair). Everything she did for me was flattering, classy, modern, and perfect for the setting/occasion... really exactly what I wanted and I didn't need to give her much input at all. You can tell from her portfolio of work that she has great range, but for anyone who prefers a modern but natural look (like me!) but still wants to look their absolute best for an important day and the many, many photos that would be taken, Emi knew exactly what to do. Hiring her for my wedding is one of the best decisions I made (albeit last minute!). Our wedding photographer was also so impressed with her work that he asked me for her info to pass on to other wedding clients looking for make-up artists with experience doing Asian hair and make-up - a statement to how hard it is to find someone with this experience and skillset.    I would trust Emi to do my make-up or hair any day, for any occasion. But a new high school experience had her feeling unsettled about her beauty regimine. In the appointment with Shara, I discovered that she was first and foremost an incredible listener, as my teen had specific requests. Shara treated my teen like her most important client and answered questions throughout the session. She explained every step of the process (with 'why', for my scientifically minded kid) and gave her choices throughout the lesson. My daughter never felt like she was being pushed into a look that wasn't uniquely her. The best part of all was the hands-on practice which gave my teen enormous confidence. I waited another 3 hours and they still hadn't found a stylist for the appointment. This company is just fraudulent as far as I can tell. Since it was a Saturday, it was decently busy when I arrived, but I did not have to wait more than a couple minutes to get seen. The space is small and it was a bit smoky inside due to the use of the blow dryers, but it didn't bother me. My coat was hung up when I walked in and I was offered a beverage which was nice. My blowout looked great, and my stylist took care to ask me what look I wanted and checked if I was ok with product in my hair. My blowout lasted all weekend somehow and I will definitely be back the next time I'm in town!
