In my message, I specifically shared that I was looking for a queer/trans-friendly salon. I also explained that I have been a loyal client who has previously flown out of state to see my longtime stylist, but I was hoping to find someone local. I never received a response to my message, so I called. The person that answer confirmed the owner had received message and told me a person outside their salon would be a "better fit." I reached out to that person as well and received no response. Message received. The whole experience was disappointing and honestly painful. Looking for a new stylist as a queer/trans person already comes with a lot of anxiety around whether a space will actually be safe and welcoming. Sadly, this interactions let me know that my concerns were real. I can't speak to their intentions, but I can speak to the impact: I did not feel welcomed, wanted, or safe as a prospective LGBTQ client. I wish businesses could be more direct about who they aren't prepared to serve, because being quietly redirected elsewhere after explicitly asking for a queer/trans-friendly space feels awful.

My previous gal, that I was with for 12 years, is in Huntington Beach, and after the move, my roots really needed color before Thanksgiving, and I didn't my hairstylist didn't have time on short notice. I searched yelp for colorists in my area and Christine's name popped up - Well let me tell you, She's Incredible!!! The color is FABULOUS!! So subtle but rich, so pretty. Additionally, she only used 1 color, (other hairstylist used 2) so less processing on my baby fine hair. She was so great that I choose to have her do my extensions, and she not only put in the weft type I was wearing, she COLORED the one I had bought from the other stylist who picked out the wrong color, and I was stuck with it. Christine colored the weft beautifully, and that's tricky at best. Christine also applied the weft with much less strain to my scalp, then suggested a new type of individual smaller strands for my sides, that so far are AWESOME! If you want great color and a great stylist, look no further!!!
