I saw Gina for a haircut and she was amazing! I only live in OC for the winters and had not had a haircut in three months mainly because I was unsure of who to use. She basically transformed my look and made me look 10 years younger. She reached out prior to the appt and wanted to see an inspirational picture and also one of my current hairstyle. (Very caring already). She took a lot of time with me discussing my hair and what I wanted it to be exactly. I also gave her a little bit of free rein with it because I could just tell she was great before we even got started. She wanted to start by dry cutting it which I had never experienced before so that made me a little nervous but I figured she's the expert, not me. Then she washed it with the most amazing head massage I've ever had in my 67 years. Cuts it again here and there while wet (because she's a perfectionist) and then really takes her time styling it. I have pretty curly hair that I've never been able to style on my own. I am always hesitant about getting my hair cut because there's not a lot of curly hairstylists in the area. Gina reached out to me and told me she could give me a curly cut so I decided it was time. Gina is so nice and made me super comfortable right off the bat. I found Shine Salon and honestly thought the reviews were probably too good to be true. Spoiler: they aren't! From the beginning- I messaged Farra to see if she's taking clients and would be willing to take on another salon's mess. She qualified my situation with specific questions and started educating and advising me right off the bat before accepting to see me. She agreed to see me. She assessed my hair, listened, and set reasonable expectations. She didn't over promise. She was realistic but optimistic. Farra literally turned my trashed hair into my inspo pic. Watching her work was like watching an artist. She paid attention to every detail and I immediately knew I was in good hands. I was blown away at the end result. Review #112 Yelp 2017 challenge: I have an event that I found myself looking for a salon to get my hair done and looking through Groupon I stumbled across this little gem and in the area. I quickly called the salon to make an appointment for the following day on a Saturday ( their busiest day) to see if there were any availabilities because the fine print on the Groupon specifically stated that I had to be with the specific stylist. To my surprise Farra ( the owner) answered the phone, she was pleasant and upbeat and extremely helpful and stating that not only would they honor the Groupon but I would not have to have it with that particular stylist. With luck, my hair appointment would be with Ben the other owner ( her husband). During our conversation, she was able to get my information and my phone number and confirm my appointment space then my phone died. How embarrassing! Luckily after my phone was able to charge I was able to contact the salon to get more questions answered. Like lightening, I recieved a text to confirm my appt, and I liked that! On the Groupon, it's stated haircut , style, and Moroccan oil deep conditioning treatment for $39. This is exactly what I needed for my event that night. When researching this company, I notice if you go on their website they have a new client special for haircut and color. If you mention at check out their website they give you $20 off Normal hair cut is $75 with coupon it's $55. Color also is $75 . If you get both cut and color together you would get $10 off. Ben & Farra are a husband-and-wife duo and salon owners of Shine Salon. Interestingly, they come from a line of salon owners . Specifically, they are 3rd generation salon owners born and raised in orange county. I love that and the continuation of family buisness! Pros about SHINE: Friendly: Ben was super friendly, attentive, listen to what I wanted, and delivered. Thank you so much for making this experience so memorable. Location & Parking: this location is a niche in the community. Services: They offer other services which you can get more info on going on their website and looking at pricing and other important information. Service: hair extensions ( weft, tape in hair extentions, beads), massasues ( 4x a week , including sundays), Notes: it's in a bit hidden, on the bottom floor, with plenty of parking. He sat there and talked to me for awhile about what I wanted and didn't want for my hair (and he was so polite to not look bored when I was rambling on about it lol). I usually cry when I leave hair salons- not that they're bad haircuts, but I just dislike taking length off a lot and am dramatic. We just moved to Laguna Niguel and Shine Salon is only 5 minutes away from my house. Based on that and the yelp reviews, I made an appointment for my husband first (he's very picky with his hair lol) and he loved it! He also loved that Ben texted him to tell he was running late. Then I went to get my roots done, and Ben was also amazing. He truly understands what color goes best for you and I loved the way he styled my hair and the products used. Hair cuts are great but color needs LOTS of improvement. They used to be my favorite salon for haircuts but after getting a balyage from Kim, I will not be going back. I used to love their customer service, but my last appointment with Kim was completely disappointing. 1. I felt so uncomfortable when she started asking me about my political views and if I liked Trump as mush as she did. Sorry Kim, but will not be going back to your salon. I feel morally wrong supporting a business that agrees with Trump's inhumane points of views. 2. Kim's haircuts are lovely but the balayage she did on me was terrible!! It looked like someone had thrown paint on my hair, the colors were not blended at all. I called and asked her if she could fix my hair. She was nice enough to squeeze me in on a Sunday (her day off, I believe). When I showed her the pictures I had taken of my hair at home she told me "it doesn't look like that anymore" (because it looked horrible). My hair looked better after I asked her to blend in my roots, but still not nearly as good as I was expecting it to be. She was clearly rushing to get out of there ASAP, so she left my hair soaking wet after washing it. It was so cold and windy outside and I had to wait in the street for my Lyft to arrive while the back of my shirt kept getting more and more wet. If you are thinking about getting your hair colored with Kim, make sure you wear an ugly shirt that you don't care about, because she completely ruined the brand new shirt I was wearing with hair dye. 2 stars for the haircuts I have gotten with you in the past, but please stop doing balayage!!! You haven't mastered the technique and you charge an awful lot for it!! read more

First time was great, tiffany was fast and stayed with what I had so I kept the length. Went back a second time and she cut what was supposed to be two inches to almost 8! The cut was bad so I had to go back to see if she could salvage the cut. It was as if she didn't even care. I'm a little upset about my experience here. I got the Groupon price for a haircut and a highlight. In a nutshell, I came in as a blonde with dark roots, showed the owner Ben a photo (on my phone) of Kate Hudson's hair (very blonde with a lot of depth, with face-framing very light highlights in front) and I left Shine Salon looking nothing like the photo. I had more of a monotone, darkish, honey, Jennifer Aniston-type color. My hair was darker, not lighter. : - ( In the salon, after my hair dried and I was surprised by the dark tone, I told Ben the color didn't resemble the photo. He, for some reason, said I never showed him a photo. I got my phone and showed him again the photo of Kate Hudson. He looked at it a long time and said that we must have had a miscommunication. Then he said that her highlights were almost white. I said, ok maybe but this what I wanted. Photos are supposed to clear up miscommunication, I thought. (In the meantime another stylist kept saying over and over "don't you love it? Don't you love it? Which made me very uncomfortable). Anyway, I asked Ben if I could come back for like 6 or 7 blonder foils around my face, like the photo. He was NOT happy about that at ALL. He said that I got a REALLY good deal (paying him the Groupon price, but giving it all to the salon, not Groupon) and that he did a very professional job. He was very pleased with the nice honey tone. However, that's not what I came in for. I love Jennifer Aniston's hair - it's just too dark for me. I told him that being a bright, light blonde was my antidepressant. I'm a middle aged mom and it lifts me up. He didn't seem to care. I practically BEGGED Ben for just 6 or 7 light colored foils. I said I would pay him extra for them. (which I shouldn't have to do). He said that the toner will wash out and that my hair should lighten up. He said to "give it about 2 weeks and then call me back." Went home depressed with my dark hair. My boyfriend confirmed that my hair was indeed darker. But I waited the 2 weeks. At the 2 week mark I made an appointment for a few more foils. Like 6 or 7 foils. Not many. Ben texted me and said that they have a 5 or 7 day guarantee, and that's it. I reminded him that he told me to wait 2 weeks for the toner to fade. He basically said that I was mistaken, and that he wouldn't have said that. I reiterated that I was told to wait 2 weeks. I said that highlights are expensive for me. I was hoping that that would soften his heart towards me. He didn't respond. He stopped texting me I think that men don't understand how important hair color is to middle aged women. He cared more about giving me a color that HE thought looked good and was a "good job." He didn't care that I didn't like how I looked when I left. And he won't fix it. Won't even give me a few light colored foils. : - ( I'm going back to the head colorist at Toni and Guy in Mission Viejo. I was trying to save money. I made a mistake. read more

Meant to write this sooner, but I can be a bit of a procrastinator.... I met with Ben of couple of weeks ago to fix my box hair color roots, and thank goodness I did. Gosh knows I've been to too many stylists since moving to the OC, but I have to jump around because of unsatisfactory work received. Not to mention over-priced for their talents or lack thereof, but Ben really knows what he's doing and the end results are beautiful!!! He works quickly and professionally as well as being a very nice & kind person. I was referred to him and so appreciative that I was. I brought in a picture and we discussed some options and in the end, I came out with a really pretty blond color that wasn't brassy or yellow in anyway...
