Salon Cielo is terrible - really awful! I should have gone to a $5 barber shop. I would have been given a better cut. I went to Salon Cielo for a second time last week. My first experience was bad, so I should have known better. The first time was about 6 months ago. The stylist gave me a cut that lasted about a week. It did not look right, though I passed it off as a one-off issue and months later decided to try again. The stylist was a nice guy, so I will not name him. However, this is the worst cut I have ever had. It is uneven on the back. The rest of my hair is also uneven making it appear as though my hair is thinning in place. It is just terrible and in my opinion appears to have been the work of a hair cutter with no experience. It is so bad, that I have been asked by a number of friends: "What happened to your hair". This place is so bad, had they charged me only $5-10 I would write the same review. My advice: Stay away!!! I wish i could give zero stars!!! read more

I don't usually pay more than $20 for a haircut, but my wife was getting her haircut here and I needed a quick cut and shave so I decided to crash an appointment. I was taken in right away, much to my surprise. by a stylist names Fred. It was one of the better haircuts I have received. He was quick and straight to the point. I received a great haircut and shave (badly needed) in twenty minutes. I did not have to give him much direction either....he kind of knew what sort of cut I wanted. It was a bit pricey though for a men's cut. $30 for the cut and $10 for the shave. The best part was the shampoo. The lady put me into a trance for about 5 minutes. Sometimes it's good to splurge on a haircut. You get what you pay for....and this salon and Fred delivers. read more

Today, I tried Salon Cielo for the first time, and I will definitely be going back. After reading several reviews about the amazing Dinh, I had to meet him myself. He completely listened to what I had to say and did a great job with my cut and color. There have been times when my head actually burned while getting my hair colored (and once, waaaay afterwards as well); but nothing like that happened today. He is clearly experienced. I never like when stylists get pushy with products, and I never felt he was being pushy. In fact, we had a good laugh while I was sitting in the chair. Apparently, some sort of light-up lip gloss came in, and he brought it over because it was just. that. funny. (As an aside, light-up lip gloss? Quel demographic is THAT for?) So in short: he listens. He gives you what you want. I'm sure he'll give you what he wants if you ask him to. And for the DC metro, it's at a competitive price. (Not cheap, but not paying a mortgage for your locks.) I am a very particular person when it comes to hair cuts and highlights and when i moved to VA a few years ago, i had to shop around for some good stylists. I've come to realize that it's not so much the salon brand (be it high or low end), it's who your stylist is and what he or she can do for your hair, or rather, how well they listen to your requests. My stylist, Vanessa was recommended to me through a friend because her hair came out awesome. I was stunned and amazed at how accurately Vanessa captured my requests. The dimensional highlights came out exactly how I wanted it to look, and I was worried about the color, because I absolutely hate golden tones. It came out to the exact pearl blonde highlights that i wanted. i did notice a tiny bleach blotch on my roots however (hardly noticeable BUT), I will take notice to leave in the color just a little bit longer. But I am sure I can go back to get the color in. Aside from this little splotch, I would have given it 5 stars. Onto the haircut, it turned out so nicely done, that I was also amazed at how much I liked it short. I had requested for my hair to be a little past my shoulders, and that's exactly what I got. I have always had layers in my hair, and the layers were cut clean and sleek and not choppy as was my last haircut. And believe it or not, my prior haircut came from the same family chain. It's a bit on the pricey side, but i am getting exactly what i am paying for.. I couldn't be happier! read more

What's almost as relaxing as getting a massage? Getting your hair washed, cut & dried at Salon Cielo. If you read my previous reviews, you'll see that I'm a huge fan of Phillip's. He's super talented and does a fantastic job with my fine hair. I also want to add that he's gentle. I've been to other stylists who pull & tug my hair & it's not fun. Not Phillip. Getting my hair cut & dried by him is relaxing, as it should be, in my opinion. Erica, the shampoo woman gives the best scalp & temple massages--I nearly fell asleep! I just love going there. I went there for the very first time one Friday afternoon. Didn't have appointment just walked in. The stylist who helped me was Niana. She was nice, trying to relax me. ( I was in a hurry, only give her 35 mins for it) So she tried her best to make it quick ( she did shampoo and cut in 25 mins for me) and the result came out great ( except I felt couple times of hair dryer burn on my scalp ) Thanks! I loved my experience when I went here! I had an appointment with Luz and she was beyond amazing!! She met with me, looked at pictures of what I wanted, and made sure we were both on the same page. I wanted a natural balayage look and she gave me just that! Luz thank you, because of you my career has taken off and I can't begin to explain the amount of compliments I have received on my new hair. To start off she sits me down evaluates my face, and tells me what works and what doesn't, like you're going to see the doctor, she then proceeds with suggestions, that would enhance my image and complete a total package. She does not push you into making any decisions you do not want to make. My opinion and choices were always heard and came through in the final result. The hair dresser was rude and arrogant about her job. She made the comment " I know this better I have been doing for 15 years" and all I was trying to take an opinion. She also kept repeating " it will cost xx dollars" like I walked into the shop not knowing how much it costs or did not have the money. She was rushing and not listening. In fact to the point my eye was injured during the hair color process. She charged for my haircut and barely spend 5 mins cutting the hair and not giving it any shape. Very unhappy with my cut here. I saw a lot of great posts about this place on here about the stylist Luz. I was in need of a new stylist closer to home so I felt comfortable going here after seeing all her pictures and reading all her reviews. End result, worst haircut I have ever had. It looked nice at the salon because they blew it out but once I showered at home I noticed how UNEVEN the cuts were. There is no angling at all it looks like a child took scissors to my hair and chopped off chunks, you can see square edges in the cut. It look extremely unprofessionally cut. The bangs are also really uneven. I have had better cuts at the hair cuttery, at least they dont rush to get me out the door so she can take another customer. She clearly needs more experience with cutting thick hair. I noticed all the great reviews are for people with thin hair. Their customer service is horrible also. The credit card machine was down when I was ready to pay so they told me it would be $70 and they took down my card info to run later. I liked the smell of the shampoo they used to wash my hair so I asked her to point it out to me. I remember the bottle was blue while I was having it washed, Luz took me to the shampoos and gave me a tiny brown bottle trying to convince me that was it. I knew she was full of s*** (excuse my French) since the bottle was $42 and clearly the most expensive item they had and she was trying to play me for a fool to get me to buy it. I knew it was not really the shampoo they washed my hair on so I passed. Later that night, they charged my card $149!!!! When I asked for the itemized receipt the next day I noticed they charged me $80 (not $70) for the haircut and for the shampoo that I passed on. When I demanded a refund they refused saying that their system doesnt process returns and that they would give me a store credit. After hours of fighting with them they finally only refunded me the shampoo. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this place again. read more

From an African-American experience (relaxed hair)... As you'll see in my other reviews, I have searched and searched for a great stylist in NOVA...to no avail. I'm always leary when salons say they can do "ethnic" hair because I have yet to find one that's good at styling African-American hair. It seems that their main (and only) concern is showing you how "straight" they can get your hair. Ok, that's cool. I do like my hair straight and bouncy...sometimes. But for the money these salons charge, I really do expect my hair to be "styled" as well. Luz - I like her for a simple blow out and would probably go to her if I wanted my hair pinned up or something. I also thought she was very friendly and open to doing my hair. Some stylists seem to cringe at the thought of doing African-American hair (and mine is easy to manage). Darryl - He was nice enough, but it seems like when Black people work in these salons, they think you, as the customer, don't know any better about hair products, what you need, what a relaxer should cost, etc. So they try and sell you on some expensive process that's not needed. I only went to him once, and I was REALLY excited about the possibility of having him as my local stylist. Great personality. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed with the end product. When I asked about having my hair set in rollers (which African-American salons do for body & to make styles last longer in between visits). he said he didn't do that. What? Now, in all fairness, this was probably a year ago, but stil I was surprised considering that he's a Black male who said he's been in the business for a long time. I went to Luz, who is new there. She was amazing. My hair was flying away, and she said it was due to other stylists thinning my hair on the top, and that should never be done. On top of that, she gave me an amazing red hair color that I keep getting praises for. I am definitely going to be a regular of hers. read more

I am a big fan of Phillip! It's so rare to find a talented, upscale stylist who's also genuinely down to earth. He is one of the best stylists I have ever had! Sadly, I had to remove two stars due to some bad customer service I experienced lately. I called the salon to ask for more information about their deep conditioning treatments, since quite a few different kinds were listed online, but without descriptions. The receptionist put me on hold for five minutes, then took my phone number down and told me someone would call me. Over two hours went by, and no one called so I called back. When I explained the situation, the receptionist snapped at me and put me on the phone with a stylist. The stylist's tone was quite unprofessional, and when she was done answering my questions she hung up on me without even asking if I wanted to book an appointment. That experience was frankly unacceptable, because I was basically saying "TAKE MY MONEY just tell me how" and I was treated like a nuisance. As much as I like Phillip, I'll be getting my conditioning treatment somewhere else, thanks. read more

I am writing based upon the blow out experience I had here. I had high hopes based upon the other reviews but I would have to say stay clear of this place if you're getting a blow out. My hair was so brittle after she dried it, I was in shock. The blow dry technique had no rhyme or reason it was just one big hot mess. So much so the stylist suggested we use a curling iron free of cost it was so embarrassingly bad. My hair for the first time in my life is knotty after a blow out. WOW why have i not come here before??? After much thought and hesitation and a a lot of research i finally decided to to see Dinh at Salon Cielo....best decision i've ever made. I've had a few pretty good cuts but this was by far the best cut of my entire life. he did everything that I asked and made sure that my long heavy hair looked healthy and vibrant. It was also the best blow dry i've ever had too!!!!!!! AND I got started right at my appointment time and finished about 40 minutes later...that's right, shampoo, cut, blowdry all in less than an hour. That may sound scary to some but that shows me he knows just what he's doing and he is a seasoned expert. It makes me wonder why i wasted money on other stylists that took almost 2 hours and it didn't look even half as good..... well now that i've found "my place" I can't wait to start coming here more often!!!! I'm going to have some fabulous hair in my future :D So looking forward to that!! (oh and it was only $50!!! which allowed me to give him a pretty good tip! love that!) read more

Luz did my hair today and she did a marvelous job! I came in with at least 5 inches of roots and pretty old highlights. She also made me feel like a queen and provided me great tips about how to care for my hare afterwards. I told her I wanted to darken my hair just a little bit and she did exactly what I asked her for but giving me her advice and opinion as well. I went to macys on a saturday (in tysons 2) and walked by this salon. I wanted to get my hair cut before my business trip and I didn't have an appointment but a stylist there took me anyway! Her name was Betty, she was great! I didn't really like the cut I got from another salon near work before, so Betty gave me a new style that was more complimentary to my face bcuz my face is kind of round. I went here not too long ago to get a haircut and my stylist was Sahar. I have very long hair that I wanted trimmed and I wanted layers because I wasn't god of the one length look. I told this to sahar and she just said no I cannot give you layers with no explanation. Everything literally looked the same as I came in and I was very disappointed. I had been going to a local Alexandria salon but after three years I could tell my colorist had lost her touch. So for a few months I was in color limbo, trying to decide if I should change my stylist. Luckily one day while at work a friend of my boss came in and put items on hold to be purchased once she came back from getting her hair done. I am SO glad she did because upon her return I was amazed! Her hair looked shiny and the perfect shade of blonde (NOT yellow!).
