I've been going to Salon A since it opened and was Anne's client at other Salons before she opened her own shop. I can't say enough good things about this shop. It's beautiful and serene and everyone is incredibly nice and attentive. Francesca is a doll, and always very helpful when you need an appointment at the last minute. Anne is a master stylist who is up on the trends and takes the time to explain what she is thinking before she colors or cuts. She listens and responds if I think something needs to be changed. She's one of the nicest people I know and truly appreciative of her clients' loyalty to her. I've never had a bad haircut or color at her hands. I was in the salon when Susan E had the haircut she reviewed so negatively. In fact, I was sitting in the next chair. I could describe the amount of cut hair I actually saw on the floor and the conversation between Anne and the client that I overheard, but there's not much point getting into a she said/she said dispute with someone as unhappy as Susan E. But I can say definitively that the client went into the bathroom when Anne started cutting my hair and was still in there when I left the salon over 35 minutes later, considerably more than the 10 minutes she reports. I always get compliments on my hair and have sent a number of people to Anne, all of whom have become devoted clients. I have no hesitation to continue referring. Salon A is a great place and Anne is the best! read more

I have been going to Ann for 12 years. I followed her from Jolie Day Spa when she opened her own salon, now Salon A. I have had every style haircut imaginable. From very very pixie short, to very very long. Layers, one length. bangs, no bangs. you name it. i've had it. and Ann has been there every step of the way. Sometimes i go with a picture, sometimes i go with just a ridiculous explanation of what i think i want. either way, ann helps me sort through it and i have always been pleased. i regularly get compliments on my hair, often after a month or more of growth. i have referred NUMEROUS friends to Ann (too many to count) and they all continue to go. My daughter uses Ann now and my friends' daughters now go to ann. i have now started getting color to my hair (just a little gloss!) and felt comfortable doing so with Ann after seeing all my friends have their hair colored by Ann. they all look natural and beautiful so i thought i'd give color with ann a try...and as usual i was very pleased. Francesca is wonderful at the desk and adds to the warm atmosphere. i have learned over the years that communication is key when getting a hair cut. Ann is a great communicator and strives to fully understand your request before picking up the scissors. i hope to be visiting Salon A for years to come. read more

Salon A has a lovely ambiance, easy parking, multiple services and a staff who wants to facilitate the client getting her (and I guess, his) hair done perfectly. The atmosphere is a lovely combination of upscale, professional and friendly and non-self-important.. And, they do great hair (and nails, and facials.....)._ I had great hair as a kid. It had lovely textured color with subtle streaks of blond and brown. Now, It looks like that again. Different Salon A stylists have worked on my hair with excellent results. However, Ann Amott, the owner, is a genius with color. Not only does the color look great, but it matches my skin tone. Sometimes you see people with perfect hair but it is too blonde or too ash or too gold for them; or it lacks depth. Not me, because Ann just gets it. And, she changes her formula and her approach with the seasons of the year (and my life). Needless to say the cut is impeccable as well. After I had my hair done last month, I went to a rather large meeting. No less than 12 people at work stopped me to compliment me. I have been to almost every hair salon in the DC area for the past 15 years. And not once did I get the compliments on my hair cut like I did after going to Alvaro at Salon A in Bethesda. I have super curly hair and every other stylist who told me they knew how to cut curly hair ended up giving me a huge mess to deal with. First off, the atmosphere is professional and relaxing. The massage chair at each hair washing station are the perfect touch! I would go back just to get my hair washed! But what really makes me now a life long customer is Alvaro gave me the perfect hair cut! He really knew how to cut my curl hair to give it body without making it a huge frizzy mess. After every other hair cut I have received elsewhere my friends have just commented: "Oh you got your hair cut. Cute." After my first hair cut with Alvaro at Salon A, had people who I didn't know complimenting me on my hair cut. 4 other women who have similar hair asked me who styled my hair because they have had trouble finding a stylist who really knew how to deal with curly hair. You will add Lena to your list of "bests" you might have for every service you go to...she is what an expert should encompass in any profession. Not only does she know all about skin care, but she also seems to have the knowledge of a doctor when it comes to related areas, such as physical therapy, massage, stress...she should open her own wellness clinic! My 90 minute deep facial was the best I have ever had for many reasons: it felt great, not a second was wasted; Lena massages shoulders, upper arms and upper torso while waiting for lotions to do their trick instead of leaving the room, as many others do, she never tried to 'sell' any of the products she was using, and she really informed me about my skin. It was the least expensive facial I've had...$90 included all this and free eyebrow waxing and stubborn in-grown hair removal!! To top it off, I really, really liked Lena. This is her own business and she really cares about her clients. You will feel like you are in good, professional hands!! read more

I have been going to Salon A for a number of years for haircut, color, highlights and facials. I have nothing but wonderful experiences. I started with Taryn for hair and when she went on maternity leave, I moved over to Ann for hair. Both have been great for me. I continue to see Ann and think she is wonderful. I have long, very curly hair with overall color and highlights so my hair can be challenging for anyone. But not Ann - she not only does an extraordinary job, but her rates are wonderful. And Lena, the skin care person, has got me completely hooked on the best organic facials and products. I have seen a huge difference in my skin. All of the products at Salon A are top notch and the staff. from the front desk to the shampoo bowl, are kind and good. I recommend them to all of my family and friends and they have found success with Salon A too. In summary, I recommend Ann and Taryn for hair and Lena for facials - plus it is a very nice, relaxing environment. read more

I'm sorry after reading some of these reviews, I must say I never experienced unprofessionalism as much as it saids on here. I recently purchased a groupon for this salon. Honestly, I never knew there was a salon that was so close to me I just moved to the city anyway, I called and made an appointment, the woman on the other line was very pleasant and called and confirmed my service for that day. When you walk into the salon it is very quiet, I was greeted by the receptionist, there were cookies she took my coat and offered me something to drink. My stylist was with me in seconds. I forgot the stylist name but he listened and understood my wants and needs s far as hair color and cut was concerned. What was so great my entire day was not spent in the salon he got me in and out this salon exceeded my expectations after reading some of these posts. P.S. They have the best massage shampoo bar quiet and relaxing. I will be back... read more

Lena Levanda is, hands down, the best facialist in town. What makes her great? Her knowledge, her training, the quality of her products, her personality, and her ability to make your skin look flawless. Another thing she does that you almost never find among facialists is that while you are swathed in botanical masks on your face, she simply moves to shoulder, hand and foot massages so that you are never left alone, and you are constantly being pampered and attended to. For kicks, I tried her chocolate treatment as a Valentine's promotion and it was not only aromatic, it got results from the blend of products and techniques. Finally -- her best advertising is her own skin. She could pass for twenty, and she's not, but does a great imitation of it without the benefit of plastic surgery! read more

I have been going to Salon A for many years and have always been thrilled with the results. The salon is beautiful, always impeccably clean, with pleasant staff who make you feel comfortable without feeling self-conscious. Ann is a master stylist whose calm demeanor instantly puts you at ease. Francesca is wonderfully helpful, always professional, yet personable. Today I had the Brazilian Blowout hair smoothing treatment and I absolutely love it. Ann took so much time explaining each step, considering the specific results I wanted, and offering lots of maintenance advice. Over the years I've had many facials and been to different salons but I can honestly say that Lena in Salon A gives the best facial EVER. The overall experience is just wonderful, and you come away feeling rejuvenated, pampered, glowing, and BEAUTIFUL! At no time do you feel rushed, Lena takes her time to review your skin and makes thoughtful recommendations to enhance your skin. She also includes warm wraps, and arm and feet massage in the facial. For me, what distinguishes Lena even more from others is her warm and genuine personality, her extensive knowledge of naturopathy and how she uses that knowledge in the selection of products, and the fact that she uses only organic products. I've been going to Salon A since its inception and couldn't be happier. The salon is attractive, spacious and has shampoo chairs that massage your back as you are enjoying an excellent shampoo. Ann is the best colorist and stylist I could wish. My hair looks very natural and healthy. Lena's facials leave my skin soft, smooth and refreshed. She uses Suki and other organic products, and truly cares about making her clients look their best and creating an environment for the 90 minutes spent with her a relaxing, nurturing experience. Ann has been doing my hair for approximately 18 years! I am extremely picky and my hair always looks great, thanks to Ann. As a result, I have referred multiple clients to her over the years and they are still getting their hair done by Ann. She is a master stylist and colorist. She has many loyal clients and these negative remarks I have read are definitely the exception. I receive many compliments regarding my hair on an ongoing basis. Not only that she is very skilled and experienced...what makes her unique is that she really CARES about you, you skin and your wellbeing..... When you are in her hands (literally) she is all "about you" ...you don't need to request anything, all you do is relax and enjoy - she will take care of everythig. I went to Salon A on Sunday February 26th for a Brazalian Blowout. Corey did an excellent job with my hair. I have very curly fine hair and he knows how to handle my hair without any issues. My hair is frizz free and very soft after my Brazilian blowout. I washed my hair last night and my curls are very loose the way I like it. Anyone that wants to have a Brazilian Blowout definately go to Corey. He is thorough and precise with putting the product in the hair and great at styling as well. It was well worth the cost to have a some months of freedom from having frizzy tight curly hair. read more

Ann is a genius! My hair has made a gradual transition from dark brown to nearly blond (I'm in my late 50s and would otherwise be quite gray by now) and no one can believe this isn't my natural color. Ann also keeps my cut updated and doesn't let me get bogged down in the same old look. Lena is also wonderful - since I've been getting facials with her, my skin feels great, and sun damage spots have completely disappeared. The products are great. So is the atmosphere - Francesca keeps everything running smoothly, and no one has the attitude that is so off-putting at other Bethesda salons. read more

I loved my experience at Salon A! I went for the first time to get my haircut. I really enjoyed the ambience and the stylist that cut my hair, Alma was great! It's really hard to find someone that knows how to cut my hair, being that it's curly but she definitely nailed it.
