Adding another review because I just had to! I have been seeing Marcee for a few years bc Bubbles kindly referred me to her when my last stylist relocated. Marcee is amazing! Most recently I had her do some color, specifically a single color to hide the gray at the roots and then she did balayage. We had a fun time adding some color to my locks and the end result was exactly what I had in mind. She knows how to cut my hair - which not all stylists can do well - and she does a great blowout! She also colors and cuts my mom's hair too and it has never looked better. I am so grateful for Marcee and her talent and highly recommend her! read more

4.5 stars. After a mediocre experience at my regular salon recently, I decided not to go back for a much-needed cut and gave Bubbles another try. Soooo glad I did. Melissa cut my hair and she was such a delight. Very friendly, attentive and professional. I told her I'd been growing my hair out & didn't want too much cut off so she just snipped a little off the ends. The shampoo was relaxing, the cut looked great and she did a fabulous job with my blowout. We talked about an anti-frizz/shine treatment ($35) and I mentioned I'd come back in a week or so to get that done. The cut + blowout cost $45 which is pretty reasonable, considering I'd typically pay $70+. Soooo, a few days pass and I'm feeling the need to go a little shorter. So, I call the salon and schedule the anti-frizz/shine treatment and mentioned I'd like to have Melissa cut another inch off. The treatment revitalized my hair and it only took 5 minutes for the product to work its magic which I thought was cool. Who wants to sit around under a hair dryer for 30 minutes?! Melissa didn't charge me any extra to cut my hair since I'd just been there 3 days prior :) I'll definitely be back here for future cuts & treatments. Note: I believe they accept walk-ins but I'd recommend making an appointment. They sell Bumble & Bumble products which are a blessing if you have fine hair like me. I'd suggest trying the detangling spray. The salon isn't huge but it's laid out well and has a friendly vibe to it. There's street parking (bring quarters) nearby and several parking lots as well but they don't validate parking. read more

Mona was the best! I have had several poor haircuts in the past, but Mona gave me just what I had envisioned. I booked the appointment one week before at 9 am. I arrived at 8:55 and no one was there, either the stylist or the front desk. Everything was turned off. I waited 15 minutes and i decided to go back. 5 minutes later, someone called me saying the stylist was in delay and that i could book another appointment at 11, since she had another appointment at 9:30. Are you kidding? What was the reason why i booked at 9? Also, you are in delay and you have to be able to say sorry to everyone and start with me, first, in any case. Third, i can admit the delay, of course. It can happen. But, if the saloon is open at 9, the front desk should be there 5 mins before, at least, and not 15 minutes later!!!! read more

I came here today because i got a haircut last week someplace else that was not very good. After looking at some of the pictures on yelp, I felt like I would be in good hands with Saghar. After arriving, she looked st my hair and told me she would clean it up for me. She explained everything she was doing and Honest to god I could not be happier. I'm so disappointed with my haircut. I've been to this location before, and I am a long-time Bubbles client for various other locations around the DMV area for over a decade. I've never left upset with my hair until today. First of all, they incorrectly scheduled my appointment- I received a confirmation phone call last week asking if I meant for my appointment to be at 11 or 1 and I said 1. Today, the day of my appointment, I got a call at 11:10 asking if I was coming in for my 11 o'clock appointment. I explained that I had been confirmed for 1 pm, but it was clear that there were no 1 o'clock appointments left. I kindly offered to take the only one left -4:30pm. No apologies for mixing up my appointment time. I got there at 4 Bc the last thing I wanted was an employee trying to rush out by closing time at 5- they were able to wash my hair while I waited but then I proceeded to have the most confusing experience. My stylist argued with the haircut I wanted- she refused to cut short layers that I specifically asked for, and she did not ultimately end up doing anything I wanted. My hair isn't angled (even though she kept saying it was), there are minimal layers, and it is still mushrooming even though she argued and said her not cutting short layers would prevent mushrooming. I couldn't even point out her errors Bc she insisted on drying my hair "naturally" which meant sticking me under a dryer. I got charged for a shampoo, cut, and blowdry. It wasn't until I got home that I realized how terrible this cut looks, and it wasn't until I dried and straightened it myself at home that I realized it is nothing like what I asked for. I just scheduled an appointment at a different salon to get this fixed tomorrow, despite my stylist offering for me to come in this week to fix it. Don't offer to fix something later- do it correctly the first time. Needless to say, won't be returning to this location again. read more

I called last minute to get an appointment and was paired with Gladys. She gave me exactly what I needed-- real face-framing layers that blended well and just a light trim. She was quick and friendly and exactly what I'm looking for in a stylist. The salon itself was busy, which is understandable because it was at 4pm on a Saturday. The stylist literally insulted my hair the entire time to try to sell me product. She looked at my hair like it had cancer and she was so sad about it. She said "why do you even have long hair if it's going to look this bad?" ...wow ok. My hair is not THAT damaged. Sorry I have to use a ponytail holder while I workout. Not going to skip the gym just so my hair doesn't have a few breaks. Reasonable price for the cut..$40......just make sure you walk in strong enough to refuse the "extras." read more

Ugh. After 3 years of cuts, colors and up-dos, today's experience may actually have been bad enough to end my relationship with Bubbles. This morning I had a cut scheduled at 9:00 am. 9:00 am on a Saturday is not my ideal time to schedule anything, as I am a person that values their weekend sleep, however today is my birthday and I've got a posse of people heading down to the Nats game to help me celebrate. As such, I realized that if I wanted my hair cut today I would have to do it early, so 9:00 am it is! I arrived early. I got my butt out of bed, grabbed my coffee and got there early. The same cannot be said of my stylist, Reneisha. My appointment time came and went... 9:10, 9:15... no one came over. Finally, at 9:20, the receptionist walked up and said 'Erin? Are you, like, in a hurry? Because like, the stylist just called and she's really stuck on the Beltway.' I honestly couldn't believe it. Like, I actually don't. The traffic on the Beltway that morning was not sufficient enough to cause that type of tardiness. She was just straight up late. Yes, I told her, I was in a hurry. Hence the 9:00 am Saturday timeslot. Hence the reason that I made an appointment instead of walking in. This is literally the entire point of making appointments. The receptionist kinda just looked at me blankly for a bit, as if to ask if I was willing to just sit there for an indeterminate amount of time while I waited for the tardy stylist to arrive. No, I told her, today ain't nobody got time for that. I rescheduled and left. Thank god I randomly decided to wash my hair at home before my 'haircut' since I would have been attending my birthday with dirty hair otherwise. I called the salon after returning home and asked for the contact information for a manager. I was pretty bluntly told that they don't have that to give out, but they would pass my desire to speak along and I should be hearing back soon. It's now Wednesday evening and I've heard squat. I just cancelled my Friday appointment after deciding to give another local joint a try instead. read more

I like Bubbles. A lot. And to be quite honest, I have no problem with the fact that it's a chain because it's a -good- chain that I've been committed to patronizing since I moved to DC 6 years ago. I've never left -any- Bubbles salon without a haircut that I really liked and this visit was no exception. This storefront was previously Salon Cielo but was reopened as Bubbles. I used to go to the Bubbles on Wisconsin/East-West Highway but figured I'd give this one a try. I took advantage of the fact that I was only working MWF post-surgery and booked an appointment on a Thursday morning. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted, offered coffee/water and was given a card to fill in while I waited for my stylist. My stylist was Samantha and she was really nice. Before heading over to the hair-washing area, we did a quick evaluation of my hair. I had brought some photos of how I wanted the cut to be and she was able to assess my hair to make sure the cut was not only do-able but that it would shape my face well. Once my hair was washed, it was cut time - 4 inches worth. By the time she finished, my hair looks so good. It looked healthy and shiny and was just what I had asked for. And the best part? The cut was only $30. How do you really beat that? You can't. I was running low on my thermal protectant spray so I made sure to pick up a bottle of that at checkout too. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way that the lid was not screwed on tightly because a couple hours after being home, I smelled the spray all over my tablecloth. Yep...$20 of thermal spray...spilled. But not to fret! I called the store and they were super cool about replacing the bottle. I stopped back after physical therapy and picked up a new bottle that we made sure was securely closed before I walked home. To sum it up: Excellent salon. Friendly stylists. Won't hurt wallet (well, if you're just getting a basic cut). Walking distance from apartment. Can easily get Dolcezza afterward. read more

Showed up on time and was ignored for 30 minutes, when I asked the manager why they do such things to other people, she just smiled and said "you can always leave". Save your $35 and go elsewhere. Like most of you reading this review, I've gotten many haircuts in my life. All the way from $10 clipper only buzz cuts to $75 haircuts and fancy salons, and by virtue of that I have a fairly good sense of what is a good cut, a good salon and a good experience. Being new to the area, I stumbled upon Bubbles and in the need of a haircut, decided to go in here for a walk-in after a quick confirmatory check on Yelp. Unfortunately, my experience didn't live up to any of the other 4 or 5 star reviewers, and here is why: - Bubbles attempts to be a high end salon, but isn't. For a $35 men's cut, I expect more. - The decor, ambience and equipment wasn't any better than a $15 chain (Hair Cuttery/Great Clips/Super Cuts etc.) - The place was empty for a Sun afternoon with the other hair dressers/stylists singing along loudly to the background music while twiddling their thumbs - My stylist was an inexperienced mid-20 year guy who ended up nicking me behind the year and drew blood. Now I know these things happen, but the way it was handled could have been better, including the use of Cleanex/tissues instead of coarse paper towels. Forgetting his name (Talbo or something, he is the Turkish guy there), but avoid him at all costs. read more

WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. I called asking for a stylist that's very experienced in highlights, some gal recommends Melissa. My hair is not difficult to touch up. She touches up the blonde, then goes around and does the brown - while CONSTANTLY moving around the foil with the bleach that she just put in my hair. I said at least half a dozen times, "won't moving the foil make the blonde bleed". I'm not hair stylist, but even I know this. She keeps saying, "it'll be fine". Well what do you know, every single one of the highlights bled & I'm seriously Embarrassed of my hair. While trying to touch up the brown, she whipped the brown dye from the brush into my eye TWICE, this dye is running down my face, my hands & arms are covered. How is this girl even a stylist??? I have tried many different salons, and sure my hair has came out not looking the best but this is by far the Worst, Messiest, Embarrassing, and Ugliest experience of my life. I asked her to please fix the bleeding & she says she doesn't have time. After going back & forth, she touched up two highlights, and my hair came out looking worse. And now I have to try to find someone to fix my disgusting highlights before going out of town in 2 days. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON!!!!!! read more

I have been to several salons where they never really knew how to work with my hair. After yelping a few salons, I decided to go to Bubbles based on the reviews and the prices. I called in the morning and made a same day appointment. The guy at the reception...I don't remember his name! Was very nice. I have curly hair that I usually wear straight, and needed someone who could work with my hair and make it look nice and not frizzy. I also wanted some long layers. My stylist was J.B. Super nice girl and excellent stylist! I showed her the picture I wanted, and she was really honest with the things she could do and not do, like, for example, the picture was of someone with longer hair than mine. I explained that I just wanted the layers, she played with my hair a little bit, and explained what she recommended. This girl loves hair! She took the time to really work on the haircut and make it perfect. She knew I wanted to keep the length as much as possible, so if she needed to cut more after drying the hair she asked if it was ok for her to do it, which of course, I agreed to. I love the haircut, and I really enjoyed my first visit, plus the price: $35 for wash, cut, dry! On long hair! Excellent bargain! I'll definitely go and see J.B. again for my next cut. read more

Giving this particular location only 1 star because I have had two bad experiences. I went there the first time before Christmas to get a hair cut. I took a picture but it did not come out as I'd asked. I called them up and they graciously fixed it for me and I loved it. I thought I'd give them another chance and went in for a cut and color. The stylist Imelda advised me to go with highlights because I wanted to be so blonde. I agreed. She did the highlights and my hair was ORANGE!!!! She tried several toners but it still had a weird color to it. She then took 5 minutes or so to cut my hair (again I had a picture). It looks awful. With regard to the color, she said that some hair does not take the color. Now I have been highlighting my hair for over 20 years. And I'm a darkish blonde myself. I have NEVER had a problem before. But anyway, that's the 1 star deduction. And it also was a little weird that the stylist was very quiet and gave me a non-existent, lame blowout. BUT I think it really depends on who your stylist is. I basically had the same experience as Jess G. I was looking for a good salon that was above Hair Cuttery but hopefully not as expensive as Bella so after reading the glowing reviews about JB, I made an appointment with her. My first visit was in July, to fix the mess Aveda Institute made. I just wanted to go back to chocolate brown and get rid of the ugly ombre. It looked okay after she'd finished but a week later the color had already faded and looked horrible. JB had said I could return within two weeks and she could fix anything I didn't like for free so I did. She explained that my hair was just too overprocessed to hold the color so I made the painful decision to chop off my long hair, as short as needed to get rid of the dead hair. Once I did that, the color was great and it's been healthier. I went back to her this month for another color and cut. This time I wanted a lighter shade of brown, and she did a good job mixing the new color with the highlights that were in there. She also recommended a Kerastase (or whatever) treatment that has made my hair feel silky soft. I love JB because she's so sweet and bubbly and it's obvious she loves what she does. She always tells me what products she's using, why she likes them, and what they're supposed to do. She's also probably the only stylist I've ever had that tells me exactly what the cost of the visit will be, before she begins and without me asking. I'm happy happy happy with her! P.S. I've been rung up by that Nazly lady and she's kind of a grump. I wouldn't go to her for services. read more

I see Maddie. I'm in love with her! Every time I see her she is on time, in a good mood, and does exactly what I ask her. I usually only want 1-1.5 inches off and she's one of the few stylists who actually listen. Because of it, and how great she is, I always leave loving my hair. I also get my hair thinned because it's so thick, and she's able to maintain the body while getting rid of the weightiness. A couple months ago she did balayage on my hair and it still looks phenomenal. It's natural, a warm compliment to my light brown hair, and has grown out exactly as she said it would--unnoticeable. She's easy to talk to and has a great sense of humor. As someone who is pretty particular about her hair, I highly, highly recommend her. read more

So I made an appointment for Wednesday then get a voicemail an hour or so before the appointment that I couldn't understand. I call the number back to be told my appointment is confirmed. Then the receptionist checks with the stylist who I could hear saying that she didn't feel like working anymore and to try and reschedule the appointment. I get it, being on your feet all day can be exhausting so I rescheduled for Friday without making a fuss. I get to the salon on Friday and have to wait 30 minutes for my stylist to arrive. My hair was okay when she was done, but I really can't afford to have my time wasted. Might be worth it if you are flexible or not in a hurry. read more

I am SOO disappointed and angry against the STYLIST ( she told me she was as she said it to another customer who complained in another review and that I should have listened!) Melissa. I let my hair grow to start on a new basis and get a wonderful sophisticated and modern cut... That is what I told her I wanted. I was dreaming about a blunt cut with long fringes on front and a lighter back. MANDY IS AMAZING!!! I know how difficult is to find someone that can do exactly what you really want in your hair. And for a year and a half I was looking for a good stylist in the DC metro area until I found MANDY. She have been my hair stylist for the past 3 years, and I will follow her to wherever she goes... I hope she doesn't leave Bethesda. Mandy will ask you what do you really want in your hair, and she will do it exactly as requested. She will take her time with you, and make sure that you are pleased with your haircut, and even brows LOL. You will get your hair washed first. You can tell her what you want, and she will do it or as a hair professional, she will of course recommend some styles based on your type of hair trying to find a happy medium with what you want. You have to understand why I am so eager to talk about her: my hair is wavy and thick, and usually misunderstood by many hairstylist specially barber. Usually Hispanic hair stylist will understand how to handle my hair, and there are not that many (good ones) around the DC metro area. Mandy is friendly, polite, sweet and funny!!! She will take her time; dedicated completely to you!!! I wish her management or corporate office could read this because she needs to be recognized for the amazing job and customer service that she does. The salon is nice! Not a big waiting area, but you don't spend a lot of time waiting. They offer you tea, coffee,water with cucumbers. And the place seems to be always busy, because the other stylists seem to be good as well. But if you are a guy, I will certainly recommend Mandy. ++This is a review of the customer service I was given while coming in around 8:30pm, almost closing time for the girls working++ I dropped in at this location in desperate need of an effective hair straightener. Lay, the stylist available, offered her assistance, as she sensed my hesitation in choosing the right straightener. She sat down with me and took the time to straighten my hair free of charge to show me the results of the item of interest! Lay was so friendly and courteous, especially with it getting to be so late in the evening - she acted as if it wasn't even a bother. I will definitely be back for a cut and dye! read more

I've been coming back for having Mandy Chen colouring my hair. But during my last visit to perm my hair, it was an awful experience. Moreover, I had to come back twice for a hair I was not happy with. The first time, the waiting time was too short to settle the curls, so she had me come back the second time, waisting a lot of my valuable time. The second time, she did not communicate well about how I want the look to be, and the outcome was very disappointing. Also her haircut skill is questionable too. I don't think she knows how to handle the layers for Asian ppl properly. I am very upset with my hair. She needs to be professional and communicate with her customers to cater their needs.
