I've been coming back for having Mandy Chen colouring my hair. But during my last visit to perm my hair, it was an awful experience. Moreover, I had to come back twice for a hair I was not happy with. The first time, the waiting time was too short to settle the curls, so she had me come back the second time, waisting a lot of my valuable time. The second time, she did not communicate well about how I want the look to be, and the outcome was very disappointing. Also her haircut skill is questionable too. I don't think she knows how to handle the layers for Asian ppl properly. I am very upset with my hair. She needs to be professional and communicate with her customers to cater their needs. I love my hair! That's something I rarely say when leaving a salon. (I usually hate new cuts after I get them) with that said I've always been satisfied after leaving Bubbles salon. My cuts always look great and the coloring is even better. You should book with Christopher. He really gets to know your hair and is very knowledgable on products and styles. I had just started a new job in the area and was looking for a new stylist. Maddie had several positive reviews so I made my appointment with her. I came here to get a partial highlight and cut (I have long, blonde hair, naturally dirty blonde). I asked if she could do the highlights in a way that would make it look as natural as possible as it grows out... She did a fabulous job and understood exactly what I wanted and gave me the best highlight job I've received in years. She was professional, nice, and informative about how to treat my hair going forward to maximize the longevity of the color and overall health of my hair. It's been almost 3 months (I'm overdue for my next appointment) but my hair honestly still looks good, and the color did grow out looking very natural, not just night and day between my highlights and natural hair color. I've been here twice and got a hair cut with Janeth, who was so sweet and did a great job! She's really personable and friendly, and she listened carefully to what I wanted and asked questions to make sure she understood the length and style I was asking for. Both times I went, I had a pleasant experience. But when I recommended the salon to my sister, she didn't have that great of a experience, which is why I give it only 4 stars. I was so confident to recommend this place, but when we went, the person in the front was rude to my sister and had a bit of an attitude. The hairdresser that cut my sister's hair (it wasn't Janeth) wasn't very personable either, and ended up charging my sister more than expected ($40) because she said she had long hair. It's weird though, because I was only charged $30 both times I went, even though I think my hair was around the same length as hers. I understand that most salons charge extra for long hair, but I think they should be upfront about it.And in the end, she wasn't happy with her haircut either. read more

This is a very delayed review, but I wanted to see how my hair would progress after my color treatment. My hair stylist and colorist was Lay, who I had read up as a color expert. My reason for choosing Bubbles is because of the reviews mentioning polite and kind service and a great haircut to boot. I had chosen the package hair deal of the treatment with a single color and cut and blow dry. I have been looking for a hair salon that I would become a regular to, and I think I have found it. The more times you go to the same person, you begin to have a relationship with them and the better the stylist can then match your haircut to your personality and become more familiarized with your unique style. My visit was very pleasant and overall fantastic. I was greeted very nicely and waited for Lay to finish up with her current customer. To be honest, I had hoped that she would rush her current customer so that I would get my turn, but I appreciated the fact that she never rushed her customers and talked to them and took her time to make sure everything was satisfactory with her customers. After patiently waiting it was my turn and I discussed with her the haircut I had wanted and explained to her my hair color ordeal. I had previous bought a Japanese hair dye that would more drastically change my hair color to an orange auburn color and it had dried out my hair and damaging it creating a million split ends. I then explained to her the color that I wanted it to be. She worked with me to find a good color together and both agreed on a red brown auburn color, and she explained to me beforehand that the color was not going to be even overall as the dye job I had done previously was not even to begin with, but she said that she would try her best. I agreed and trusted her to do her magic. She washed my hair and took her time with coloring my hair. She left me after it was done and put the timer on. As I was waiting for the dye to process, she would check up on the dye work every so often, which I appreciated very much. When it was done, washed and blow-dried, it came out to a fantastic color which even surprised me how well it came out. Employees even complimented how well the color had turned out. The haircut she gave me was the cherry on top and completed the look altogether. I am very happy with everything. My visit came in with expectations and left with a bubbly girl with a new attitude. Melissa is amazing. I've been going to her for a few years. My favorite thing about Melissa is that she takes the time to answer ALL questions and doesn't rush you AT ALL like every other stylist I've ever been too. She made my hair healthy with the cut and then she actually fixed the color that a previous hairdresser did. She gave me so much of her time during the consultation and was able to let me know what was/was not possible. She even realized when she was mixing the colors that she would need to add lowlights to achieve a proper look and made sure to come back and let me know. She was more than happy to give me an itemized price list of the services so there would be no surprise, and she worked with my limited budget. I'm looking forward to going back to her and I can tell she took time to make sure we were on the same page about where I eventually want my hair color to be. She was so diligent about making sure not to damage my hair. I just had my third visit to Bubbles Bethesda Row and will absolutely be returning to see Christopher. I saw Christopher for my first visit based on the reviews here (I was new in town) and was not disappointed. I saw someone else for my second visit because Christopher was unavailable, but I wasn't a huge fan. I returned to Christopher last night and was reminded of how awesome this place is. (Disclaimer: the person I saw is really highly regarded by a lot of customers, so it's just a personal preference--there are lots of great stylists here if you can't get in with Christopher or if you don't click with the first person you see). I am relatively low maintenance with my hair and usually don't really know what to tell stylists, but Christopher has done a great job both times. I'm growing out some old color and am looking forward to trying some new color with Christopher when all of my old color grows out. I also like that this is an affordable salon in a very expensive area, yet they make it feel like you're not at a budget salon. Bubbles salons can vary by location, and this one is GREAT! There are plenty of decks right by this location, so parking has never been an issue. Bring change for meters--you might need it! read more

Gladys is maybe the only stylist who has listened to me when I say "just a trim". The worst is when you ask for a trim and then you look down and see two inches of your hair lying on the ground. But Gladys gets it! Also, I have incredibly curly hair, but she blow dries and flat irons it better than anyone. I always leave feeling super confident and sexy! I hope she never ever leaves!! I've been here twice now, and seen two different stylists. I like that it's comparatively cheap ($30 compared to some DC salons that charge upwards of $70), and that they take walk-ins and short notice appointments. But really, it's a glorified, over-priced super cuts. I probably could have gotten the same results there. Both times the cut I received was adequate, but nothing special. Granted, I didn't go in looking for a super complicated hair makeover. But I did go in with very specific instructions, since I know what works best for my hair. But both times I got a quick, somewhat sloppy version of what I had asked for. Nothing worth complaining over, just thoroughly mediocre. Maybe I was spoiled by my old stylist back in MA. I'm not really a snob when it comes to hair salons, but I guess I just expect a little more for my $30. read more

I came to Bubbles in Bethesda on a recommendation and Mistarie did a really great job. I walked out of there floating on cloud nine. I have really long hair and until then I hadn't been able to find someone who could blend my long layers and it's always been choppy despite my feeble attempts to explain what I wanted. Mistarie understood immediately, knew exactly how much to cut off while keeping my length and how to blend everything together so it made sense. She angled the framing around my face and my side swoop perfectly and I felt like a rock star all day. It's difficult to say how the rest of the stylists are, because I only go to one person here. The actual facilities are much nicer and cleaner than the bubbles down the street. I also feel like the people working at the front desk as well as the other stylists are more professional and less immature. There is parking at the colonial parking garage for 1 dollar an hour, much better then the 3-6 dollar an hour parking, near by. I always get the most amazing haircuts from the style Patrick. He has spoiled me and now I can't go anywhere else! read more

I've been going to Bubbles for about a year after making an appointment with Saghar because my usual stylist was booked and I needed a haircut desperately. I took a chance and said whoever was available would be fine and boy did I get lucky with Saghar - she is fantastic. Not only is she incredibly friendly, she does a fantastic job cutting and coloring my hair. I have yet to walk out of the salon unhappy. I have short-medium length hair and get golden blonde highlights done every 3 months or so. She gives great suggestions on styling and options for the cut. If you can make an appointment with her, its highly recommended. I also believe that most of the staff here does a great job. I've been to two other stylists as well and they were polite and skilled. My roommate also goes here and she's never complained either. Its a great, clean, friendly environment. I wish that the highlights were a little less expensive but they are very competitive with other DC area salons. read more

Wow, STEPHANIE this review is months overdue--I'm so sorry! I read reviews, but I hardly ever write them. So, back in late August after nary a trim in nine months and a pressing event, I called to try and get a last minute appointment with a reputable stylist at the Bethesda Row Bubbles. I had of course scoured the Yelp reviews and I knew who was good and who to avoid. Unfortunately, the stellar stylists mentioned were either out of town, booked solid, or had relocated. I spoke to the lovely receptionist--DOMINIQUE who very patiently handled my neuroses over deciding on a stylist who I knew nothing about as she had no reviews. I naturally threatened Dominique with my ire should she lead me astray only later to discover I blithely intimidated a woman with child. Nice. Nevertheless, she assured me that she would hold my hand throughout my haircut and color if need be, but that I had nothing to worry about because STEPHANIE was a wonderful stylist. I'd be in capable hands. When I arrived I was warmly greeted and rightly recognized as The Bundle of Nerves and reassured. Kid gloves, people, I need KID GLOVES! I have long dark brown hair with a natural silver (looks like tinsel) streak right by my widow's peak that started coming in at 17. I'm fond of it, but not fond of the random squirrelly grays peppered about, so I wanted a Demi color that could cover the rogues, but avoid my sterling stripe. Heh. There was little-to-no judgement, which I appreciate. Stephanie was AMAZING!!! I told her I have trouble with dry scalp/flaking/dermatitis which flares up when I'm stressed and I was beyond stressed (looming MCAT). She recommended the Kérastase Dermo-Calm shampoo and Sensidote Masque which she used on my hair to see how I liked it. It was an "Elixir of Awesome." We also went with a Kérastase treatment on my hair which left it impossibly soft. She wasn't pushy with the products and just let them work their merchandizing magic on my mane. She also told me of a less expensive brand called Pureology, but I was hooked on the K-stase. My color was phenomenal! It lasted this long (Nov) and I had no problems with my white pillow cases staining. For my cut I showed her pics of the requisite--albeit ridiculous--perfectly coiffed hairstyles of anime (Alphard from Canaan) and video game (Lara Croft from Tomb Raider 2013) bad*sses in addition to the more feasible "Olivia Wilde with Dark Hair and Long Bangs" circa 2014. It was an assemblage of the three and it was sensational! Although I originally deferred the purchase, a couple of days later I went back to get the Kérastase combo as the Amazon vendor reviews seemed spotty and riddled with questionable product authenticity. SANDY at the front desk was very sweet and helpful and made sure to give Steph credit for the purchase. THANK YOU fabulous women of Bethesda Bubbles, I couldn't be happier with my experience there and I will be calling for another squeeze-in as soon as I post this treatise!! read more

I've been holding off writing my review for Bubbles because I thought if I gave myself more time, I would have a stronger opinion of my experience there. But, after two weeks, I'm still pretty ambivalent about the place. The Good: My stylist, Lay, was incredibly nice - and not the over-the-top bordering on annoying nice - but a real, sweet and genuine nice. She was generous with the scalp massage and hair wash - love! And, she helped me decide how to cut my hair, which is a plus, because walking in I only knew I wanted to chop a good portion off. I liked that she shared I had enough hair to donate to Pantene's "Beautiful Lengths" (which I did) and I appreciated that she talked me through what she was doing to my hair and why. The price is also decent- $45 for a shampoo, cut and blow dry (includes a long hair charge). The Bad: The salon is a little cramped - the waiting area is miniscule and the stylists' stations are so close to each other that you can't help but hear what's going on in the lives of the people sitting in the chairs around you (I guess the latter could be a "good" for some people.). I also had to wait for almost 30 minutes because the receptionist forgot to let Lay know that I had checked in for my appointment. This point isn't a huge deal, but when my hair was being cut, I wasn't asked where I parted my hair (which matters because I have layers in the front), and after my hair was cut, I wasn't shown how my hair looked in the back. The Ugly: The way my hair was styled. I was asked if I wanted my hair curled to look WAVY. I said "yes," thinking of beachy, loose waves. When my chair was turned around and I saw myself, I looked like Shirley Temple. I think it would have looked cute on a ten year old...but on me, it just plain looked silly. I appreciate the time spent on curling my hair, but I think I would have been better off just asking for a blow out at the end. I can't say for sure if I'll go back because as I stated upfront, I'm of two minds about the place. It's like that okay first date...there wasn't immediate chemistry, but on one hand it was nice enough that you wouldn't be against going out to dinner again, but on the other you're not ready to totally commit. read more

I felt something was off here from the moment I walked in. There was hair all over the floor and nobody was making an effort to sweep it up, like it was just normal to step through piles of hair. Mona was my stylist for a regular woman's haircut. She sat me down at her hair station, still filled with hair from the person who had just left in front of me. Then after she washed my hair, she didn't make any effort to put it in a towel. It just hung down dripping wet onto my clothes. When she sat me down at her station, she didn't even put the apron around me properly and I got hair clippings all over me. She also didn't bother putting any product in my hair and didn't do any blow dry styling better than anybody could on their own. My hair left looking flat, frizzy, and odd. The front desk people were also very rude. Don't go here. There are better places to spend your money. read more

Over the last month, my family has arrived for confirmed appointments only to be told that the stylist was sick. The manager or receptionist did not contact us beforehand. When I asked, the snippy receptionist played dumb and was like "oh this happened before?". In December we arrived for a confirmed appointment and the salon was not even open! The management at the Bethesda Row location is unprofessional. The receptionist is rude and talks down to customers. The latest (and our last) appointment today was running very late (even though I called ahead of time to ask if the appointment was running on time). The salon was packed. I heard a stylist complain that the receptionist overbooked her because they never turn away walk-ins, so those with appointments are forced to wait. The prices have gone up but the service and management have gone down. Sorry Bubbles, I've been your customer for 6 years and bring my entire family there but today was the last time that we will be treated rudely. There are many salons in Bethesda that will not be rude to us, talk down to us, cancel our appointment without notice, or make us wait while you cater to walk-ins. The salon is crowded, dirty, there is no place to change into the salon robe, and to top it all off you have the rudest, most unprofessional, incompetent, condescending receptionist. read more

Last color I had only 4 weeks ago, I paid $300 and it was over processed, fried and yellow. She was raised in a salon when her mom had one and you can tell she just knows what she is doing. I left feeling human again. From the salon, just to the car, I had 3 compliments! I was looking for a place to get a single process hair color done. I was inexperienced since 1) I had never colored my hair 2) I had been only to cheapest places for simple haircuts When I was contemplating getting my hair colored I went on a hunt on yelp to search a salon with good reviews where they offer good service, harmless/gentle products and don't charge exorbitant amounts that'd otherwise burn a hole in the pocket of a poor grad student. I messaged on Yelp/called a bunch of salons in DC/MD area as well as Pittsburgh and most places were priced $120 and above. I finally reached someone at Bubbles and they offered a quote that was much lesser. So I decided to visit Bubbles and made an appointment on a Saturday evening. This place is located very close to the Apple store in Bethesda and we were able to spot it quite easily. There's paid parking nearby. We parked on the street. The Salon was fairly crowded and seating was limited. We waited for some time until I went and met my stylist. Her name was Evelyn and she's one of the warmest and nicest stylists I have ever met. She asked what color I wanted and studied my case in detail. I had some greys as well as henna on my hair which made dying it more challenging. We tried to use INOA which is supposed to be ammonia free and gentle. She took a lot of care in covering every last piece of grey/ henna dyed hair on my head. Afterwards she gave me a wash and the color came out really well. After a very long time I had uniformity in my hair color. My hair was shining and looking good. I was very happy with the service and especially how friendly and nice Evelyn was to me. I have been recommending this place to my friends as well will definitely go back whenever I need any salon service again. read more

I was very hesitant to have my hair cut at Bubbles because my last two experiences (one in Columbia Mall and the other at this location) I left with unevenly cut hair. However, I found myself needing a haircut and no time to have it done near my house in Germantown, so I had to resort to a salon near my work in Bethesda. I diligently reviewed the websites and yelp ratings from virtually every downtown Bethesda salon and found I didn't want to pay upwards of $70 for a simple touch up to my layered ends and framing around my face. The only reasonably priced salon in Bethesda ($40 list price for a woman's haircut) appeared to be Bubbles, for which I noted a handful of bad ratings and a few positive ones for the stylist Janeth.(pronounced Janet). I called and was able to schedule an appointment with Janeth the same day at 3:15. Before leaving my office, I forewarned my boss that I may return with a hack job. She laughed and wished me luck. Upon my timely arrival, I had to wait an additional ten minutes (my only complaint) before being acknowledged by the stylist. Once Janeth introduced herself and apologized for the wait, I felt a bit more at ease. She also disclosed that the cost would be $55 which I was ok with since it's still relatively cheaper than all other Bethesda salons. While washing and cutting my hair, Janeth engaged me in laid back conversation peppered with questions and comments about my hair. She was friendly and attentive to my feedback. After all was said and done, I was AMAZED at how awesome my hair looked. She is the type of stylist that takes her time to find out what her client wants and proposes ideas/suggestions based on her experience cutting hair. She does phenomenal work! I would recommend seeing Janeth if you're brave enough to take a visit to Bubbles on Bethesda row. read more

Disappointing service experience this morning. I had intentionally made 2 appointments for myself and a family member at 10am, knowing that we have an event this afternoon. The store opens at 10am and the two stylists did not arrive until after 1015am. No explanation or apology, but rather speaking with a disrespectful attitude stating, "well we try to get here on time, but life happens..." Yes, I understand that "life happens", but the usual response in a service industry is apologizing for the wait, not berating the customer for asking why the appointment is starting 20 minutes late. read more

My stylist totally misunderstood me, and instead, I got a nice looking haircut that keeps its shape as the hair grows out. In all seriousness, JB is an awesome stylist. I got an appointment with her as a walk in while browsing the shops at Bethesda row and have been a loyal customer for over a year now. My hair grows very fast. I used to need a cut every 2-3 weeks or my hair would deteriorate into a total mess. Now I can go for 4 weeks and it just grows out nicely while maintaining the shape. I have been dying my hair black for two years now. This weekend I had the thought of going back to my natural brown. I called Bubbles to make an appointment with Lemore. She sat down with me and I showed her a few photos of the types of haircuts and colors I was most interested in. She then proceeded to give me her full and undivided attention, and what came out is spectacular. I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER with the color and cut of my hair. And the price was very fair for a salon like Bubbles. I recommend the stylist Lemore to anyone. She is wonderful at both color and cutting, and definitely deserves more than five stars!! read more

I've been going to this specific Bubbles salon for about 9 months. I have found a FANTASTIC hairdresser--I would follow Skarleth wherever she is based. Not only is she friendly and professional, but her work is top notch. I have very curly, very black hair. Other stylists have found it hard to work with my hair type. Skarleth takes the time to understand my hair type and listens to my previous experiences to adjust coloring and cutting techniques. The only reason why I am giving 4 and not 5 stars is that Bubbles Salon is not a 5 star spa. Skarleth's work is 5 stars, but the facility and front desk staff is not. This salon is in a nice location, is kept clean and neat, but this is not the place if you are looking for a very upscale salon. read more

Read Yelp reviews and decided to make an appt with the stylists that have the most impressive reviews and based on my availability. With that being said, I went with JB. The cut I desired: a little below the chin type bob, sleek, with a tad bit of bangs. I showed 2 pictures: 1 of Jennifer Aniston for the length, and another of Sandra Bullock for the bangs. She seemed very confident. She kept saying she was taking a tad more off so I don't get fly-aways. Also, this type of cut needed to be perfect. After an hour, I ended up looking like Dora the Explorer. When I looked at myself, I didn't know how to respond. So my only response: "wow. It's so short." Later as I am paying, she came back and apologized because she cut it too short. She said with the cape, she misinterpreted my neck line. Didn't realize I didn't have much of a neck where it was up past my chin, but okay. She did offer me to come back and she'll fix it. But how? I was tempted to go back after lunch and do a whole new cut and cut it all off like a pixie, because honestly, there's absolutely no style. She said I could come back when it grows out if I give her another chance, but seriously, as shallow as it may sound, my hair is what compliments me. I haven't been to bubbles since my teens. I came just for a basic blow dry bc I needed to go to a wedding & wasn't going to have time to do my hair. So I booked my appointment here & online pricing 28 + I said cool it shouldn't be over $40. I was caught off guard when they charged me $50. The stylist that assisted me is supposedly the master stylist. This blow dry was the most subpar I have ever gotten. It was not worth the $50!! I could've went to an upscale salon & pay the same price. I will not return. read more
