Aurelia Salon is really the best salon I've ever been to! The ambience is really nice, the staffs are very friendly. The shampoo girl did an amazing job, my scalp was properly massaged and my hair felt amazing afterwards! The best part about my experience? My hair stylist, Krista! I wanted a medium/shoulder length haircut for the longest time but I can never find a stylist who can do what I want. I told Krista what I wanted, showed her a picture and she did her art. She was also kind enough to give me a few styling tips for my hair, and now, she will be the only stylist I trust! I recommend this gem of a place to everybody! read more

I came in to get a haircut today with Isabel, I was sooo incredibly nervous to go from super long to super short but Isabel talked and I showed her pictures of inspiration for my haircut and she was super great and eased all my nervousness away she left me with a beautiful haircut that I'm so incredibly happy with! I've been here so many time & loved it. This review is solely to reflect the experience I had today. I hated it. My hair looked like a mess, like I got out of the shower and walked out of the door into a windstorm. It's something I could've done at home for free instead of the $30 for just a wash/blow dry. Only, I was too uncomfortable and embarrassed to tell the girl that I didn't like it. So instead, I went home washed my hair and cried. I guess it's my own fault because I didn't tell her that I didn't like it, but I didn't want to insult her. I like this place a lot and I'll be back, just to a different stylist. read more

I asked for a razor cut and showed a picture of how i wanted my hair cut which was long in length. The hairdresser proceeded to cut it how she thought it would best match me. Majority of it was cut with scissors and chopped my whole hair off. I'm not happy with this $70 haircut but i tipped her good(we all have to make a living). I'm trying to be practical and think it's going to grow back. it took 2 years to get the length but gone in a matter of a regretful session. Nope i'm not coming back for a $70 haircut which could've been achieved at a mom and pop's shop somewhere else. It is so hard to find a good saloon and i will continue to search. They've created such a wonderful and peaceful ambiance. You don't feel any tension between the employees. Everyone seems to work well together, and help one another out. I personally followed my hairstylist, Nina Lee, here. She use to work at another salon, but for the past three years she's been working here. She always speaks highly of her work place now, as she truly enjoys the company of her fellow hairstylists. It's always a great feeling walking in there, and even a better feeling when walking out. As soon as you walk in, you are always greeted, checked in, and asked if you'd like a beverage. I always love to get there a little early so I can have a tea and read trough the gossip magazines. About 10min before your appointment, they take you back to wash your hair. The ladies that wash your hair are always gentle but give you a great hair massage! I always want tell them, "please don't stop". Lol! I love my hairstylist, Nina! She was recommended to me by a friend and I've stuck with her for 7 years now ( if not longer). She's always done an amazing with my hair cuts, no matter the style of hair I want. I've also seen her hair cuts, and color for other people, her work never ceases to amaze me! The salon prices are tad bit on the pricier side, but the overall experience will have you overlook that aspect of it. read more

This is a great salon, but the best part about it is Erin, my stylist. Like one of the previous reviewers, I have been going to Erin for years and I plan to follow her wherever she might go. The salon itself is great - relaxing, trendy ambiance, comfortable chairs, lots of styling magazines, unlimited coffee and tea...and there's usually some chocolate sitting out, too. :) The hair washing station is very comfortable with barcalounger-style chairs and the girls who wash your hair are incredibly nice and give great scalp massages. Everyone at this salon is incredibly friendly and the prices can't be beat! It's the least amount of money I've paid for the best cut and color since I moved to the DC area. As for Erin, she's the only stylist who consistently gives me great cuts, colors (and I've done it all!) and tips on styling my hair myself. She's got great ideas, is very talented and is a lot of fun to chat with. She's great for product and tool suggestions, too. Give Erin a shot...you'll never go to another stylist! read more

Went there because I thought it would be a cheaper price than the Dominican hair salon but it wasn't as I was charged more than quoted initially. This lady from Ethiopia did a wonderful job washing, conditioning and using the roller set on my hair. My only problem was the amount of grease she used. As an African American, my hair gets dry, but using to much grease doesn't allow my hair to have body which is what I love about getting your hair done at the salon. My hair has so much grease that I need to spend more money just to wash all the grease out, so back to the Dominican hair salon 2 days later. Not happy read more

I went in with a coupon on a whim. I desperately needed my hair cut and styled for an event that evening. I loved the atmosphere and met Barbara, who immediately impressed me with a quick consult of what I wanted done and what I expected. From there I was amazed. She did my hair EXACTLY how I wanted it, offered great suggestions and showed me how to style it easily at home. I seriously was so impressed with her and the other staff at the salon. Never in my life have I had my hair cut and done exactly how I was expecting/wanted. She was so great I can't stop raving about her. Usually stylists don't even listen and just do what they want and are comfortable with. She even perfectly styled my unmanageable bangs and gave me tips how to style at home. Love, love, LOVE this salon!! I love the decor (so unique... it's gorgeous), the atmosphere, and the people. Everyone is so friendly here. It was my first time going to this salon and I already felt like one of the "regulars." Erin is an amazing stylist... an artist, really. She did such an incredible job on my hair color. I really think the prices are very reasonable too, given the level of service you get here. Also, they don't try to push a ton of products on you either, which is nice. Not that I wouldn't love to buy everything they have here (Erin used some kind of vegetable texturizing protein on my hair that smells AMAAAAAZING), but sometimes a girl's got to pick and choose where her money goes, so it was really nice to be able to go in and get my hair done without feeling like I was committing a crime of humanity against my hair for not buying $200 worth of additional product. Judy cut and highlighted my hair.I was very happy.When I made my next appt for just a cut I called to see if I could add highlights. I was told no,she couldn't accommodate that so I scheduled an appt for the following Wed.Wed am I get a call that she's sick-no problem that happens to people.I ask if there's anything before the next Wed- there isn't.I schedule for the following Wed and get a call that am that Judy is our sick again.I ask if there is an evening or Sat appt- the answer was no.I finally booked with another stylist who had availability on Sat.While I was setting this up,the receptionist puts me on hold ( I'm thinking its to accommodate me), but she comes back on the line to tell me the owner had called which is why I was put on hold.... I am NOT impressed.I work in healthcare where every accommodation is made to see a pt when they want to be seen.I do not feel this Salon cares if they lose me as a client.I have booked with another Salon who's owner heard this and got me in TODAY at a time I wanted. I will not be coming back to this Salon-very disappointing experience. read more

I went to this place for several services starting off from a massage which was amazing, to regular hair washes, a hair cut, a manicure, and hair colour services and had a relatively decent experience. AND then one day I went to get a blow dry, that day happened to be my birthday, when i called to book the appt i told her its for a wash and blow dry and then told the stylist again when i arrived. She started me off with a hair wash and in the middle of my hair wash left to do someones eyebrows and returned to finish my hair wash while i played there with my neck aching, she finally came back and finished my wash, she took me to the station and put crap ton of jell in my hair and started to blow dry, i sat there wondering why i dint feel silky strands against the back of my neck as i do every other time i get a blow dry, but i let her continue, she then dunked some powder on my scalp trashed my hair at the crown and started fixing her shitty blow dry with a curling iron i hated the end result my hair looked and felt like hay. I walked up to the receptionist and had her feel my hair and told her that when i called her i told her i wanted a simple blow out she then says my total is $35 and when i get home and look at my bank statement she charged me $45. So i called and she said she'll have the owner call me back, the owner calls back and offers a $25 refund to me which they process after a week of me calling them over and over again. Then letting it all go i book an appt with the girl that i got my hair coloured by in the past, the day before the appt i called to speak to her to discuss the colour i wanted and how much it'd cost, the receptionist said she'll have her call me back but she didn't instead the owner Margie called, and says oh you have too many questions and you don't seem to like our service every time ( which was a BIG LIE, and she was sour about having to refund 25$) you should consider another salon for our benefit and yours. I said what ever and hung up, their customer service by the workers is good but the owner is arrogant and has zero customer service skills. I was returning because of the individual worker isabel who was really nice to me and did a good job on me last time around but this rude ass owner who's salon i recommended to atleast 5 friends lost business. If you're looking for a long term permanent salon, DO NOT GO TO AURELIA. read more

I've been going to one stylist, Erin, for years now. I even followed her from her last position at a different Gaithersburg salon. For starters, the ambiance of this place is nice -- relaxing, laidback, you can get a nice scalp massage while they're washing your hair, and they serve tea/coffee if you're in the mood. Erin is a gem, though. Not only does she come through every time with cutting my hair the way that I want, but she also takes the time to teach me how to style it properly. Thanks to her I am constantly getting compliments on my wavy locks, and frequently referring folks back to Erin for her blow-out tutorial! If you want a stylist that you can actually build a relationship with, Erin's your girl. read more

I tried this salon because I needed a haircut and I had a few hours to kill in Gaithersburg. I called the salon and asked if they had a stylist available who specialized in curly hair. They said they did so I went in. I explained to the stylist that I wear my hair curly and let it air dry. After the cut she started to blow it out w/a round brush. I asked her not to b/c then I wouldn't be able to see what the cut would really look like on me b/c I don't blow dry my hair, I let it go curly. She then put a diffuser on the dryer and began vigorously rubbing my scalp with her hand. It looked like I'd just been riding a motorcycle without a helmet for five hours - my hair was frizzing to such an extent. The owner or manager stopped by and said, "This looks great!" and I said, "No, it looks horrible." (I have never complained in a salon before.) The manager/owner then explained to the stylist that w/curly hair "less is more" and she shouldn't rub my head. THAT IS WHY I ASKED FOR SOMEONE WHO KNEW CURLY HAIR. They ended up having to re-wash my hair and start styling again. That's when I noticed she'd cut my hair so it was a big V at the bottom down my back. She cut the back over again to make it a halfway decent cut but really only halfway. I was so disappointed. Despite my obvious lack of satisfaction there was no offer of a discount at all, and I didn't ask for one, I just wanted to get out of there. And the cut was over $50. I then had to have my hair re-cut at a salon where they have more training. read more
