Instead she & her assistant over processed my hair by leaving me sitting and waiting for an hour. I called that evening to speak to Stephanie but no one answered so I left a voicemail. She didn't bother to return my call! Instead she texted me! How unprofessional! I called the next morning and the receptionist told me Stephanie was too busy that's why she didn't call me, which is ridiculous! Your receptionist never contacted me, I called the next morning myself after I saw your text. You have never called my phone nor has the receptionist. I had to call you all. I told the receptionist the assistant didn't follow the 20 mins off and 20 mins on for the haircap. She left me sitting there for about 20 mins before she turned the time on. Put the cap on and set the timer. Followed by taking the cap off and setting the timer again for 20 mins! She also failed to leave me with the toner for an additional 5 minutes like Stephanie told her. She over processed bleach and under processed toner. So my hair looks terrible on the top of my head! I can't even run my finger through my hair not to mention some of my hair strands are white and not blonde!!! Stephanie if your assistant doesn't understand how important processing time is maybe it's time to teach her! I will never return and I don't recommend your Salon! You are very unprofessional! Offering to give me a deep hair treatment will not fix over processed brassy hair! Next time have some sense and call your client back! By the way I paid $440 for my hair! FYI by the way years ago she bargained prices so that's how it use to work Stephanie. I see things have changed! But the quality of service has gone down. The picture you took of my hair was a small shot. You never even sent me the pics which I asked for. You wanted to me to leave. Let's not talk about the choppy haircut you gave me to hide the broken hair. Not taking accountability or even caring for your clients is a terrible way to run your business.

I made an appointment in September 2020 with Amanda (just looked on the website for a stylist) and prepared to go blonde. She had looked over the photos I sent and we spoke and came to a better idea of what I wanted/could achieve. I had about 3 years' worth of box dye on my head (2 inches of roots) and my natural color is a Level 2, the box dye put me at maybe Level 3 or 4. The process was long but that was to be expected and Amanda very thorough - hair is her passion and it shows! We got halfway to where I wanted to be in that session and she recommended me some products (that I bought and then later purchased again on my own - Kerastase, why does everything you make have to smell SO good?!?!) I've since gone twice more to get to the level of blonde I want (the lightest parts are basically Level 9 now!) I know there are bound to be people who complain about something, anything about the process but I don't have a single complaint. It's a given that such a huge transformation will take a long time and while my little tailbone is dead at the end, these stylists have had their arms up, standing and working for ~6 hours so us clients can have gorgeous hair! Amanda is super professional and personable - I can trust her with my hair and she's always willing to make things right (the first time the toner was too light it washed out almost immediately and she saw me the day after to get it a bit darker so it would fade better, at no charge). Plus, she has the best recommendations for restaurants in the county!

My appointment was at 8am and I was given a generously full cup of hot coffee while I waited for my stylist to settle in. I was given a little tour of the salon and impressed with how much space they have, how modern all the equipment is, and that they even have a kids room! I currently struggle to find time to get my nails done as a mom, and at Progressions I could bring my kid and get some self-love time too. They also have a vegan polish line which fits with my lifestyle. Molly was my stylist and we talked the whole appointment! She is so friendly and I loved getting to know her and sharing some of my life with her. She started by preparing my hair for a hair donation. I found Progressions Salon because they are one of the few businesses that accept hair donations. Molly was able to cut three braided donations off and then pamper me at the hair washing station. Progressions Salon has a chair that massages both your back and your butt during the hair wash and shampoo stage of the appointment. It was the best shampoo experience of my life. After the hair washing Molly gave me a very cute layered bob that complimented my curls. It is hard to find a stylist knowledgeable about cutting curly hair and she nailed it! After the cut she styled my hair and I was set to meet my friends for brunch. Whether it's color, cut, or a full transformation, she truly knows what she's doing and takes great care of me from start to finish. Yes -- it's expensive (I never spend less than $500), but honestly, it's worth every cent. You can tell you're in the hands of someone who's experienced, talented, and thoughtful about her work. She also offers a free consultation, which I really appreciate. Appointments can take time (mine have ranged from 3-5 hours depending on the service), but it never feels rushed. I heard several recommendations for a few stylists here & not too far from home. I chatted with someone on phone, told them what I was looking for in a stylist's skill set & they recommended 2, both happened to already be on my list of 4 from here. I took a stab, picked 1 & made an appointment. Easy scheduling My experience was that the overall parking lot was a zoo at midday. I have a large vehicle & made circles 1.5 times. Entry to parking lot fools you when you 1st pull in, the small shopping center with all staff parking is very empty when rest of lot had only 3 spaces available. I found out, there's another side lot but only accessible from separate entrance off Georgia Avenue. Ive noted for next time. Upon entering, the salon looks nice, lots of stations as pictures showed and the front desk staff are very friendly, greeted me with smiles & acknowledged me right away. They had me sit in waiting area in front as stylist was finishing a client and I was a few minutes early. I waited a little bit, no big deal, and my stylist came and introduced themselves and took me back so we could discuss what I was looking for. After that, a wonderful shampoo & scalp massage. Heavenly & enough time provided, didn't feel rushed. Back in the chair & cutting began with sectioning & clipping hair up, then started with nape & worked a little on top sides. When stylist was almost done, had me check the back to make sure short enough, it wasn't, so more cutting. I appreciated being conservative & checking in, then going back to lift more length. I checked in the mirror again and felt length was good. Added some gel & that was it. OH! Mind you my hair is still wet. Luckily it is summer so I didn't mind, but this is 1st time I've left a salon with wet hair & not feeling complete. Now maybe we didn't communicate fully, maybe stylist planned to dry my hair, maybe not, but in talking I had mentioned I never blowdry my hair, which we talked about & isnt best for your hair & I let it dry naturally. So, maybe that influenced not drying my hair. I didn't fully mind except that I couldn't see a glamorous, LOL, but mainly professional ending & hair appointments are my only opportunity & treat to myself. What i also didn't know until now, after-the-fact, they do offer options for just cut & wash without blowdry at a lesser cost. So, I did save $. If I knew beforehand, or someone explained, I would have requested a completed style with drying. Because we talked the entire time and stylist was SUPER personable, I was distracted & on way home started wondering, did my left side get touched? Did I even get a fresh trim all around which I needed? It was 13 weeks since my last haircut & always feels nice when hair is freshly trimmed. OR did stylist only work on the main point of the nape being too long & top looking heavy, which was what I mentioned as main dislikes currently? I did bring a picture of myself t9 show what I wanted & liked about prior styling in the back. Once I got home, hubby said the back was uneven, longer on 1 side than other. He took a picture so I could see. Lucky he can cut a straight line, so he fixed. But next morning when I washed & let hair dry, the sides of my hair didn't look completely even & ends still looked needing a fresh trim. I guess my wonderingon my journey home was correct. I'm good at cutting my own hair, so next hair wash, I trimmed a little to even up sides & get a fresh cut on sides. SO, would I return? Definitely! I have options of repeat try or 3 others at this salon who were recommended. I'm willing & should return to try others as I overall had good experience. Everyone was very nice there & if I can get better parking option, definitely worth a 2nd visit. AND every customer that left appeared to be regulars & appeared very happy & looked great. Please know that they take credit for service, but tips have to be cash or Venmo only.

Not only was the color, cut, and blow dry in under an hour, but the entire experience was so lovely. I live in VA and drive an hour because of how good this salon and Melody is.
