Clean and organized store. Never very crowded. Staff is knowledgeable and freely gives out samples!

I purchased items from online and they arrived damaged. I sent photos to the online customer service and spoke with them by phone and they instructed us to return the items to our local store for immediate refund processing or exchange. The items are Not in terrible condition, but not in giftable condition. Would have also been happy to exchange except the inaccuracies and discrimination from Manager Mary and associate Tracey is utterly unacceptable. I called online and they said any items could be returned to the store within 60 days. It's been less than 14 days and we returned the items, unused, to the store but the manager refused to process the return, stating first that it was "too much" and then later that the "website was wrong." So I contacted Pike and Rose and Wildwood store managers who confirmed that online purchases may absolutely be returned to the store. So after taking careful inventory for 50 minutes for each item, confirming the correct item and date of purchase, the manager Mary still refuses to process the return. Their own online customer service department is open until 9pm EST but won't return a store's phone call? Technically per their policies, I could have used the product for 59 days and still returned the product. However, I am returning unused product almost immediately after receipt, and they still refuse to process a refund. I definitely recommend going to Nordstrom for the same exact product and actual, professional beauty consultants and associates who are able to honor their own company policies. This store is discriminatory and ignorant and I will be filing a formal complaint with the State Attorney General's Office of Consumer Affairs and Office of Civil Rights. read more

It's now 24 hours later and I'm still make up free, and my eye bags are still gone. My face feels silky smooth, no bumps and my enlarge pores are non existent. Overall, my face has a nice glow that has not been seen since my 20s. I'm 52 and after this rejuvenating facial feel and look decades younger. Mediocre attitude and service... I spontaneously walked into this location after shopping at another store a few doors down. I walked in smiling and enthusiastic because I was pleasantly surprised to see this location, but was immediately greeted with a semi cold reception. Not rude, but not great energy either. The two customer service women that were present were just standing around, and I had seemed to interrupt their conversation, seeing that I was the only customer in the store. I inquired about a particular facial mask, and both women stated that they were not aware of the product, but one of the two women was very hasty in her response, even though we later saw that the mask was on display at one of the tables. Then I inquired about the mask (which comes in a multipack, but wasn't currently in stock) being ordered through the store via online. This same woman made a horrendous face as if I was making a ridiculous request, and once again hasty responded that it wasn't possible. These were just a few instances throughout the brief exchange where this woman's attitude was defensive and off-putting. Her mannerism, facial expressions, and even the tone of her voice made me not even interested in browsing other products. And...maybe that was her intention...as neither woman asked if there were any other products I would be interested in trying. Once she was finally done speaking, I just said "oh ok, thank you", and made a bee-line to the door. Her attitude made me feel almost unwelcome and uncomfortable. There are too many other places to shop, so it wasn't worth the effort to address her demeanor. On my way out of the store, the other customer service woman present, who (I think) also noticed the very awkward interaction, apologized for the item not being available..but said it in a way, like she was covertly apologizing for her coworker's behavior. This was my experience..on this particular day...with this particular woman. It'll be interesting to see if other yelpers have similar interactions..but I write this review for blue mercury to hopefully improve their ways. otherwise, shop online-you get free 2 day shipping and free gifts with purchase. read more

Extremely poor customer service. Their website claims that they honor returns for online products in the store. The manager at the Pike and Rose location confirmed this but the staff at this location protested our need to return online orders. They say they can only take online returns by calling the online department who continuously hang up on the store. read more

Bluemercury is the perfect place to shop for yourself (make-up like NARS, Laura Mercier, Ahava, Le Mer) or for family and friends. The store is neat and well-stocked. The reviews regarding subpar customer service are absolutely correct. I walked in the store and stood at the counter to make a return. The woman behind the counter was on the phone arguing with someone about a return and never looked up at me for more than 5 min. I then tried to return the product that I purchased the day before because it just didn't work with my skin. She pushed and pushed for me to buy another product. I wanted to find something new but I didn't want to purchase a large size because I know if I didn't like it and wanted to return it the store can't sell it again. I don't like being wasteful. I said I would try to find a sample size online of her recommendation and she was visibly annoyed it wasn't purchasing something. The hesitation and constant objection to me making a return was uncomfortable. They were pressuring me to buy another $300 product which I would've been fine with but they clearly have an issue with you returning things if you don't like it even though they advertise a full refund policy within 60 days. If they had a problem with me returning, why not give me a sample so I can try it first and avoid a return? Probably because they are all about making sales... Finally after my return was processed I was offered a sample of the recommended product. Even after I was told that they had no samples of this product....very strange. If you are going to verbally boast about your great return policy and use that as a selling point to customers than don't make such a big deal when something doesn't work out for someone and they want to make a return! I called the store today at 3 pm and spoke with Tracy. I asked her if they carried Nars foundation and she told me yes. I arrived to your store at 5:15 pm only to find that the store was closed and there was a sign on the door that read, "back in 30 mins." I waited until 6:10 pm and no one showed up. It's Sunday, August 5th and the store closes at 6 pm. Not only is this unprofessional, it is a complete waste of my time. I came to this store because it is closer to home. I could have traveled a few minutes further to Nordstrom, Ulta or Sephora. However, I chose to patronize this establishment. Now I am frustrated and without a product that I needed tomorrow morning. HORRIBLE!! I recently made a nearly $500 purchase from Blue Mercury. They were offering $20 gift cards if you spent $100 or more. I received $80 in gift cards with my purchase. I was excited to use the cards in the future. I noticed shortly thereafter the short expiration on the cards. Something that was pretty disappointing to begin with- a gift card should be a real gift card. Life got busy. Unfortunately, I was ONE day late to use my gift cards. The management at the store refused to honor the cards! Pretty bad business if you ask me. I had already had my eye on a few things to purchase that would have well exceeded my gift card, but decided to take my business elsewhere. This company showed me today what they are all about and it certainly isn't about the customer. They made $80 BUCKS on me today and I politely left. read more

I am not normally one to wear makeup ever. Honestly it was not till I went into bluemercury where one of the saleswomen showed me how to use eye shadow for my eye liner and showed me how to put it on properly. My family and friends are noticing when I wear it and talking about how much my eyes pop. The young lady that performed my facial was super messy. When I got to a mirror there were streaks of white down my ears, the side of my face, and drips down my neck. She wrapped my hair as normal but still managed to get so much product in my hair it feels like I drowned it in hairspray. I have never experienced such a messy facial. Thankfully I wasn't headed somewhere immediately after. The sales team when I walked in was not very friendly. No one greeted me. The stars are literally for my glow. If not for my glowy skin based on customer service and the mess left behind I would have only given them one star. read more

I have had my eyebrows waxed here and have been very pleased with the job. But the thing is, they have cancelled two appts after I got there. Then today they called to confirm my appointment for tomorrow, but didn't know what service I was having done. Then they called back in the evening to cancel because eyebrows were to small a job on the day they scheduled! When I explained this was the 3rd cancellation, she offered to come in tomorrow. So I went in for a waxing the other day and this man behind the counter said he was the resident esthetician.... I was shocked!!! I had never had a male wax me before and wasn't sure I felt comfortable to start. He boasted that he could wax me in 10 mins! I'm a betting woman so I said to him I would take him up on his offer. He smiled and told it would take him a minute to set up he room. I started to fill out the forms and I started to second guess myself. Before I was able to change my mind he was back and walked me into the room. I was at the point of no return! He told me where to lay down and where I could leave my clothes.... Everything was happening very fast all I know is, he stepped out of the room, I laid on the table, heard a knock on the door and he came back in. *Snap* *slap* of the rubber gloves then I felt the familiar warmth of the hot wax. He started asking me questions about my previous services no be fore I realized it my whole leg was covered in wax!!!!! I thought to my self is this man nuts!!!! What I have gotten my self into????? Oh well conversation time with the girls over wine...... He started laying down the strips on my legs and ripping off the wax. It was amazing how quickly he was done with my legs and so thorough! What a pleasant surprise! I have lived near the Rio shopping center for years. Having to go to Montgomery Mall for "top shelf" skincare was a hassle. BUT there it was in front of me "Blue Mercury!" at the Rio. The staff is awesome and without persuasion were willing to demo just how awesome they are. Take whoever you can get, but ask for Michael if you truly want your "brows on fleek!" Way to go guys. read more

My visit was so sad today. Had a facial (which was wonderful 5 stars for that) but while I was waiting one of the girls upsold me on some stuff and I was going to pay for it after the facial. I went in to the facial and talked to the girl about my skin type and how I can help my acne. Turned out some of the stuff I'd put aside was not good my skin type. I switched the stuff, got some serious attitude from the sales girl and left feeling terrible. If she'd been a bit nicer I might have been back to buy more but not sure I can now. I know it's just the name of the game, act like my best friend to make me buy, sell me what ever you can and earn your commission. Being nice all around just goes a long way. I don't think Sephora employees work on commission and that might be a good difference. Maybe next time I'll just do my research ahead of time and be in and out with a mission. For a chain spa and retail shop this isn't bad. I was a little late for my Brazilian but was fit in anyway. The prices are a little ridiculous for a wax. I lived in Southern California and paid less for trimming and waxing (it was all inclusive). I have a problem with the price even more because all the hair wasn't even removed. My waxer was pleasant, but once again she didn't remove all the hair. Little annoyed I paid over 70 dollars and didn't get a complete service. read more

Yesterday I needed to buy facial cleanser. After reviewing many cleansers on Blue Mercury, I came across the reviews about this super amazing esthetician, Michael, at the Blue Mercury store at Rio in Gaithersburg, MD. Thinking to myself this is good to know for future reference as I would be needing a facial. After work I went to purchase a cleanser. After browsing and just getting a few samples of cleansers, I see a young man fetching someone for a facial. I immediately went and asked if he was Michael and so it was. I immediately asked if I could book an appointment for a facial and the only available time that accommodated my schedule and his was an hour from that moment. Ladies and gentleman, all I can say is WOW WOW WOW!!!!! The best and I mean the best facial I have ever gotten in my 52 years. Michael was first and foremost so polite, knowledgeable beyond belief from what products to use on me to giving suggestions about my personal skincare needs, to diet, to giving me a massage that took me to another dimension. My skin looked so pristine and firm that I cannot wait to have my next facial with Michael. Truly blown away with Michael and his magical hands. You will not regret booking with him.
