5.20.22 I got a Groupon offer for a haircut and style with blowout through Color by Marcela. Note: it's no longer available. Initially I went to the front door where the big sign is and it was locked so I called Marcela. The salon is in Suite #202 towards the left end of the building. There is a note to call or text your service provider upon arrival. When I entered, Marcela was waiting for me at the front desk. Marcela was so friendly and personable. We talked about just about everything and it made the time go by fast. She assessed my hair and suggested an Olaplex conditioning treatment for an additional $30. I always thought my hair was coarse, but she informed me that my hair is fine, but frizzy. I used to have thick hair, but it has thinned out dramatically over the years. She asked how many inches I wanted cut off and what style. Previously I had long layers and it was in a v shape. My hair is so fine that the ends looked stringy and sparse. I never look at the back of my head so didn't know how bad my hair looked until a photo was taken a few months ago. We decided that I should do only slight layers. I had about three inches cut off. After my cut, Marcela blow dried my hair and flat ironed it for an additional $10. She informed me that a regular haircut is $45. She also suggested a Keratin treatment for $240 as that would last for about 3-6 months and I wouldn't need to flat iron my hair everyday, which is damaging my hair from all the heat. I have heard mixed reviews about the Keratin treatment so decided to book an appt for next month and in the meantime research to see if there are any side effects from the formaldehyde, which is often in them. It will be worth every dollar to have straight and silky hair for a few months. Very happy to have a new dependable stylist. My hair was so silky and sleek. I was ready for date night. read more

I hadn't had a professional haircut since 2004, yes that is a long time! So I decided the bite the bullet and follow a recommendation of a friend and try signature salon. Now I would never consider myself a "salon" guy. I'm more of a barbershop with a spinning pole out front. So lots of concerns going in. As I walked in I was greeted by a wonderful young lady who walked my back to the chair of one of the owners. He was great! After asking what I was looking for he went right at it! Quickly my cut began to shape up and with the talent of a man who has a vast amount of experience, my hair was looking great. After a quick side shape up, the amazing young lady washed my hair (never had my hair washed by another person before), great experience and cost no extra!! Once the wash was done, I went back to the chair and the barber trimmed up my top and added some quick hair product. I was honestly very excited and happy with my cut and experience. Michael Sesko is a genius! I was new to this area about 4 years ago and agonized over the painful experience of trying to find a new stylist. After being butchered over and over again by crappy hair places, I finally asked a woman in a restaurant where she got her hair cut. Her cut was just gorgeous. That's when she gave me Michael's name and his salon name. She said she had been going to him for years. The day of my first haircut I brought in a picture of what I wanted but the moment I met him, there was just something about him that told me to just go with it. I'm very particular with my hair, it's so long and thick. I've never just walked into a place and said, "do what you want" but I did. He did a FANTASTIC job. What I love about him is that he doesn't get distracted by everything else around him. His full attention is on your head. That's important to me because one of my previous "butchers" got so involved in her gossip with her friends that she whacked off a huge chunk of my hair. When he finished the cut and styled it I couldn't have been happier. And the best part is that it was exactly identical to the picture I had hiding in my pocket. Just for kicks, I took the picture out and told him that I had intended on showing him this cut and he was just as shocked as I was! He just said that he knew I wanted to keep as much length as possible and knew the perfect cut for my face the second I walked into the door. He is expensive but SO worth it! I have people asking me where I get my hair cut all the time. I actually carry a couple of his cards around with me. I'll post a picture of the cut he gave me. I just love it. The salon as a whole is nice too. The staff will offer you water or coffee. It's very clean and pretty. read more

I really could have loved this salon, but I hate my haircut. I was in yesterday as a new client. The girl who cut my hair was great, I thought at first. She listened to how I described my haircut, I told her how scissor phobic I am. When she started cutting I reminded her again, not too short. I went from all of my hair being mid back to having a layer so short it looks like bangs around my entire head. I tried to hold back the tears, I mean nothing they can do after they cut my hair off, but when I got to my car I lost it. I hate my cut. I will not be back. Only go if you are OK not getting the cut you asked for. read more

I've had three of the BEST HAIRCUTS IN MY LIFE at Signature, better than at the high-dollar Georgetown and Potomac salons I used to frequent. They've all been by Kristen, who sadly just left for Regis Salon in Frederick, but I could see that the work in all the other chairs was excellent as well. I've seen some other reviews make somewhat condescending remarks about the appearance of this salon but I'm fine with it. I personally dislike being in high-end, remodeled-twice-a-year place because 1) I don't want to pay for their decor and 2) it can intimidate you from addressing bad work. I've been to this salon twice. After my last experience I had to take a star away. My stylist did a good job but for $140, for one strip of blonde in my hair and a cut, I really don't want to be smelling raw sewage. They were having a plumbing issue, which I'm assuming is cleared up but they're prices are too high for the condition of the salon. OMG I found myself without a hair stylists who used to work at signature salon, so my husband started to get his hair cut with Dee. Every time he came home happy with his hair cut, so I decided to also give her a shot and I have to say this was the best decision I could have ever made. Went in today to have me and my daughter's hair cut. My regular person on vacation so we had the pleasure of having Michael cut our hair. My daughter is 9yrs old with very long hair. This was her 1st visit to a professional salon. Michael was absolutely amazing. When michael finished with her and started on me, she spent the entire time looking in the mirror and glaming it up. I to was very pleased with my own haircut. Michael asked me questions to find out exactly how i wanted my hair to be cut, and he accomplished what i invisioned. I have been going to Signature Salon for several years and am quite pleased with the service I've received. I get a relaxer/blow dry/style every six weeks. They are always able to schedule me for my preferred time. When I arrive, they offer to take my coat and ask if i would like a drink (if its a morning appointment - coffee, juice, or tea; if it's n evening appointment - wine). The staff is always pleasant and they work as a team - someone get's me seated, get's my cape on, and preps me for the relaxer. At any point in the service if I am waiting, a staff member asks if I need anything - a drink, a magazine? I am always pleased with my relaxer and cut. If I want to do something drastic or dramatic, Michael Sesko (the owner and my hair stylist) ALWAYS talks to me about it first. We always weigh the pros and cons. Michael sets my expectations about what to expect as the style grows out, and what my options are if he does as I ask, but after a few days or weeks I don't like it. I've been going to Signature Salon for the past 4 1/2 years. Even though I went to school in College Park, I always came back to Gaithersburg to get my hair cut because the haircuts are always fantastic. The hairdresser I used to go to sadly moved on, so when I called to schedule my last appointment, I was offered an appointment with Michael. I had always heard such wonderful things about his haircuts, so I was excited to finally have him style my hair. When I got in the chair, he first spent a lot of time talking with me about my hair before he started cutting. I hadn't brought a picture, but he seemed to know exactly what I wanted. It was amazing watching Michael cut my hair! From the start, I knew my hair was in good hands. He was so focused, and and I loved how throughout the process, he explained what he was doing step by step. I was very impressed by his level of professionalism, knowledge, and experience. It's been a week, and I love my haircut. It's very playful and versatile. When I want to, I can style it, and when I don't, I can just wash it and go. It always looks good! And I can tell it will just look better and better as it grows out. Being Asian, I've always experienced difficulty finding a good hairdresser who knows how to cut Asian hair, but Michael was VERY good. I would recommend him to anyone. read more

Love, love, love!!!! Kristin is a color GENIUS. I have been trying to get my hair back to blonde for a YEAR now (yes, an entire year) and I have not yet found a stylist who can and will do it. They all just keep turning it copper/orange. Then I found Kristin! She managed to get my hair REALLY blonde without really damaging it. She did an amazing job on my color. She is also very straight and to the point. (I appreciate that in a stylist.) If something is going to look bad, she's going to tell you. She works quickly too, which is AWESOME because I don't have to sit in the chair for two hours while she does my foils. Highlights are no longer a painful experience to sit through!!! The salon staff was excellent. Front desk girl was super-nice. There was another guy there who I believe was the owner and he was great. Came to check on me twice while I was sitting under the dryer. A little pricey (I paid a little over $200 not counting the tip I gave), but honestly the color I got today was worth every penny. The products they sell, however, seem quite reasonably priced. I got my protectant/leave-in for only $18. I would absolutely, 100% recommend this salon. Especially Kristin! I love Kristen for cut and color! I went in for the first time yesterday on a recommendation from my mom who loved the haircut she received from her. Kristen made my whole day! She gave me a great, healthy cut and fixed a very bad color job done recently on me--I have so much dimension in my hair now. The first response I got when I came home was "your hair looks fantastic!" Kristen is just such a skilled stylist, and she's quick, too! She did my highlights in a fraction of the time and was so understanding about my being sensitive to going into salons after having bad experiences. On May 1, 2010, I had a thermal hair straightening procedure done at Signature salon which cost $400. This was the fourth time I had it done there (I also had it done in 2007, 2008, and 2009). Per the salon's directions, I did not wash it until May 4th, and when I did I could see it was a problem. The hair was bumpy and frizzy, completely different from the first three times I had the procedure done. I called Michael Sesko, salon owner, and I went back on May 6th. He agreed the results weren't good and they did the procedure again. However, it still didn't fix the problem, as my hair was still bumpy and frizzy. I called Michael on May 15, 2010, and told him the results weren't good and I wanted my money back. He at first said no because "the results weren't that bad." When I protested, he said he would think about it and get back to me. After not hearing from him, I made an appointment to come back on May 27th to try to discuss this face to face. I showed him my hair. He agreed the results were bad but now he said it was my fault for not using the proper shampoo. He said that on his website it notes their policy that they do not guarantee results unless people buy their shampoos. His wife, Julie, then pulled a brochure out from a drawer on the cashier's side of the front desk (which is not accessible to customers) and showed me this policy in the brochure. The policy is not posted anywhere in the salon. In the 12+ years I have been coming to Signature salon, I was never told this policy, nor was I ever given the brochure. (Michael did make suggestions about shampoos on every visit, but he never told me they were required for him to guarantee his services). I don't usually take the time to write reviews but felt this one deserved recognition. It seems pampering myself has been low on the totem pole for quite awhile. Maybe it is a coincidence that I started to really get grey when I had kids, but I am doing the math. Looking like Cruella De Vil has been having an effect on my personality. I needed a pick me up. Michael and his staff did just that. The moment I walked into Signature Salon, Julie greeted me with such warmth that I felt like I was supposed to be there. The staff was very attentive and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. Michael listened and easily understood exactly what I was saying. He even produced pictures from his cell phone to give me visual examples. He had the imagination and personalized approach to what I wanted. I relaxed to the brink of snoring when I got my hair washed and head massaged. Michael is incredibly precise, kind and really treats his clients so well. I finally got spoiled and left feeling amazing. My little Dalmatians were very happy with this new improvement, as was I. read more
