This is a delayed review because I wanted to get professional input from other stylists before I negatively impacted a business at this trying time. I visited this salon in July 2021, to get an all over maroon/red color. For reference, I had dark brown/reddish hair. I had sent the stylist photos of my hair (color/length) & the desired result prior to the service. When I got to the appointment I STRESSED how important the quality/integrity of my hair was, and how I have had a bad experience with bleach in the past. She assured me she understood and that I wouldnt have any issues because I wasn't going lighter. Here's where things got bad... she insisted I lift my existing color because I had "box dyed" hair which was inconsistent- again I mentioned I do not want to damage my hair, and she again assured me this is a "Clay lifting treatment" that will not damage my hair. 6 hours & over $500 later, I had a great color and treatment- or so I thought because I could not tell what she had done on a full blow out. When I washed my hair at home, I realized my hair was terribly stringy, and when I combed it out I saw that an ENTIRE CHUNK of my hair was missing on my front left (so bad that I had to get bangs to try and hide the missing hair). I went back and gave them a chance to fix the terrible mistake- she offered me a quick conditioning treatment, but ALSO had the audacity to tell me she had noticed I was missing a chunk of hair when I had came into the appointment! So not only did she FRY my hair, she then lied about it and said it was existing?!?! Why didnt she mention anything at the service? Honestly... i do not know what they could possibly do to make this right, short of refunding me for the service- I just want to warn anyone else who is thinking of making the same mistake I did. The worse part is I had a great time at the salon with the stylist, and I thought we had created a good relationship. If this was all to charge me more- I am heartbroken because it will take years to fix this damage. I thought I was going to a reputable salon which is why I walked out paying over $500 dollars. It took a while to find where she went, but it is SO worth it! She is professional, talented, and does such a great job. I set an appointment that I needed to reschedule. They charge 50% fee if you have to cancel or reschedule in less than 24 hours. While attempting to reschedule and the person who turns out was the owner asked the stylist about when she might be available in a couple of weeks. The stylist started yelling SHE HAS TO PAY A FEE! EVERYONE HAS TO PAY A FEE! No worries I said I am ok with paying and offered to give her my card. The next thing I hear is the stylist yelling again AND IF SHE RESCHEDULES TO LATER SHE WILL PAY THE FEE THEN! Dude I offered to pay right there! Needless to say I am going elsewhere. Synopsis: I didn't have a great haircut. Just my guess, but men's hair may not be a specialty. Good: Pleasant decor. Beautiful location. Parking in back is great. Not so much: They forgot or didn't record that I had an appointment so it started late and went downhill. Many interruptions during the cut. Assistant was just plain lazy or bored. The end result was rough. I wasn't happy and the haircut was bad but still charged the full amount which I realize is the gamble when trying a new place. For context; imagine the character on the game "Operation", panhandlers at the metro felt compelled to give ME donations, and a dude in my line at the grocery store quietly whispered something to the effect of "don't give up, things will get better". This review is on the awesome blowout/style I received from Lauren. I will be scheduling a cut in the next few months. I have difficult hair/Asian hair that doesn't seem to stay put very well when styled unless you spray a ton of product (which I am not a fan of) in it. I explained my simple hair do which was blown out nicely with slight waves/curls. I wished her good luck and off she went. Lauren was so much fun to chat with and I felt like we were BFF"s in 10 minutes. We talked about everything under the sun and she didn't lose focus on my hair goal. One hour later, I felt we were inseparable since we had so much in common and huge plus.. my hair!! The body I didn't have was now POOF! The curls that didn't exist on my super straight hair was BOING! and on top of it, I didn't have that stiff hairspray look. It looked natural and flowy! I received tons of comments on my hair that day and can't wait to return to Lauren again for her to work her magic. These ladies are lovely, and this salon is the sweet new kid on the block. The owner has done a wonderful job from choosing staff to choosing paint colors! It's got this cozy living room/spa thing going on and I love it. The bathroom is spic and span and there's even a bar full of snacks, coffee/tea/water...etc. I've been looking for a new hair stylist after leaving Boston to save my neglected split-end, bad-perm-ridden hair and hooray... (enter Anita)! I've been to Anita a few times now for hair cuts, highlights, and several glosses (which I've just discovered/highly recommend) and she's just wonderful. She really takes the time to listen to you and understand what you're looking for. Most importantly, she tolerates... no.. embraces the fact I get bored more easily with my hair than I do with the men in my life. Everyone from the receptionist (Jamie), to the girls who wash your hair (Ellie) is very friendly. Carolyn has also mixed a gloss for me that I was very happy with. Alyvia has been coloring my hair for a couple of years now. I am completely gray.  I get a cut, color and conditioner. She is passionate, professional, does a great job, listens to my concerns, confers, recommends and possess technical skills to help maintain the health and beauty of my hair. Alyvia is outgoing and able to easily relate to people. I'm very picky about my hair color because previous color consultants left my hair yellow or purple. I had my hair colored & styled on 7/03/21 by Alyvia. She bleached my hair to a level 8 & applied vibrant magenta permanent dye via balayage. The magenta didn't fully cover a lot of where she bleached my hair & I am not happy with the results or my experience because the unbleached parts are an ugly yellow shade of blonde since I was only lifted to a level 8 & the yellow is all through my hair & pretty visible. I wasn't fully happy with my whole experience getting my hair done, not just unhappy with the coloring. I ended up leaving with pink dye all over my ears, neck, face, & bleach on my face, & a wet head because she ran over time with me & rushed processing the dye & finishing me & didn't remove the color & bleach from my body (the amount of color left on me was a lot & dyed my clothes & car seats head rest). Apparently there was a mistake with scheduling my appointment & blow drying time wasn't added to it like it should have been, but no one realized this till she got to the end of my appointment, so I had to leave with very wet hair & didn't intend to have to leave with wet hair. I paid $495 plus $99 tip, so essentially $600. I don't feel I should have had to walk out with a wet head, a lot of dye & bleach still left on me, & not fully colored hair like I thought I had gotten. & even days later for some reason this magenta dye, with my hair fully dry, continues to bleed onto my neck & ears, I wake up every morning with a pink neck & ears that I have to clean off & this happens if I leave my hair down all day as well. I've never had vibrant color continue to bleed like this when the hair is dry & with professional permanent salon quality vibrant dye. I've had vibrant dyed hair for years, in pink shades as well, both with professional salon quality permanent vibrant dye & with semi permanent vibrant dye bought from online & in store which I used to self dye my hair. I have been trying to get in touch with Alyvia since the following morning after my appointment on 7/04/21. I messaged her on her Facebook page Hair By Alyvia to ask for her to correct it & sent her multiple photos to show what was wrong, I've never received a response. On 7/07/21 I called the salon at 10:20am & asked to speak to Alyvia & I told the person on the phone that I've tried contacting her with no answer for days & had an issue with my hair color, I was told that Alyvia would call me back that day sometime but I never received a call from her or anyone. I decided as a last stitch effort I would email the salon themselves to try & get a response from someone & explained what happened, I emailed the salon on 7/08/21 in the morning. It is now 7/08/21 at 7:45pm & I haven't received any calls, emails, or messages regarding my complaints. I received a thumbs up emoji from Alyvia to my messages on her Facebook page at 5:18pm on 7/08/21 but that's it & that is not a response. This treatment has been completely unacceptable, I have been more than patient & have tried everything I could to nicely get the issues resolved. All I wanted was the color corrected, that isn't asking too much at all. At this point I am very frustrated & very disheartened by this experience. I feel my last option is to write a poor review to try & warn others not to use this stylist or salon. While me & Alyvia did have a great rapport during my appointment & I've known her for multiple years now, I won't withstand this type of poor service & communication. read more

To me, the mark of an excellent salon is not getting it right 100% of the time, but the ability to handle situations when something goes wrong. I came in for a color and decided to try a slightly different shade this time. As i left the salon with my new do, i realized that my roots came out a shade lighter then the rest of the hair, and some of the grays were left uncovered. So i came back right away, hoping to ask my stylist how to proceed from here. Let me be clear, i did NOT blame my stylist. I know my hair can pick up color in all sorts of weird ways and my grays are resistant. I did NOT imply the color was mixed incorrectly or applied poorly. I simply was sad it didn't come out right, and came back to seek an advise. My stylist seemed rather defensive, though polite enough. In short, she refused to see the problem. She made me feel very uncomfortable and enquired what "i wanted to do about it" instead of making any suggestions. I came back for help, but was made feel like a nuisance. She did eventually suggest a new dye job in the following day (and the appointment was made promptly) , but at that point I just wanted to leave. The whole experience was so awkward and unpleasant, i decided to not come back for the fix, and took my business elsewhere. Very disappointing, especially considering that everything could have been resolved so very simply if only my stylist was more accommodating. read more

I went and saw BETH, very professional and nice girl. I only had to show her the picture how I wanted my haircut ONCE, and she totally nailed it!! Absolutely loved this salon. I had a not great experience at another salon in Bethesda and desperately needed a fix. I wanted something closer to home and somewhere that user Redken, because I have some experience with the brand, and trust redken educated stylists. I ended up seeing April, and she is for sure the ish!! She is super sweet, and recently engaged so if you see her tell her congrats! :-) she knew exactly what needed to happen with my hair. I had some messed up ombré, and a basically my layers were some sort of bad mullet/bowl cut. This girl worked some serious magic on my hair, it now is back to my beautiful chocolate brown, feels super healthy, and has a great flow between layers. I have been growing my hair out since about March, and was ready to chop it today, she talked me off the ledge and said "let me fix it before you wanna chop it" and she did fabulous. The salon itself has such a good vibe. Clean, cute decor, and feels like you're going to your friends home to hang out. Worst haircut of my life! I even took in a picture (not of a celebrity - of me!) and requested something similar which was chin length. She (Belinda, the owner) basically scalped me. It has been months and it still looks like I put my head in a food processor. It is so short, it will be several more weeks before I can even go to another salon and get a decent haircut. It stickes out all over my head. It has no shape whatsoever. I'm not someone who is very particular about my hair but this is absolutely the worst. Shayla, my cutter, matched the picture that I brought in for my summer hairstyle perfectly. She is really good with both the scissors and clippers. More stylists need to be better with the clippers. I really appreciated her detailed attention to my sideburns that came out perfect which most salon stylists mess up because they usually do not care enough about it unlike barbershops which perfect them. This is my new hair salon, period. First, I must emphasize the importance of a great shampoo person. When you receive root color as I do, (shhhhhh) it's important to hide the evidence of a root color, if you know what I mean. This shampoo gal made sure no color was left on my skin around the forehead, temples or neck. A gentle touch and massage is always a plus in this business. Water temperature is oh so important and I was asked to assure comfort. Anita once again did a great job cutting and styling my hair. She wasn't happy until I was happy. I love this place! I came in as a walk-in wanting to do a fashion color ombre. I had been wanting to do this hairstyle for awhile, but I couldn't find any salons that had the color I wanted. When I walked in, Belinda showed me that they had the color I wanted and she even went out to buy more dye for me during her lunch break. Beth was my stylist and she was very nice and patient (especially since I have such thick hair). She was also very informative about the process and maintenance of this hairstyle. So a little bit of context.. I wanted to dye my hair brown, but I know that coloring the entire thing isn't the healthiest thing to do for your hair, so I was going back and forth. I had about 20 pictures of brown hair that I was thinking about: some were a dark chooclate brown, some were ombre, some were light brown, and I had absolutely no idea what to do. A friend recommended that I go to April, and oh my god, as cheesy as it sounds, she changed my life. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my hair, it's a beautiful black to brown ombre highlights so that my hair gives off the illusion that it's brown but she never messed with my actual hair color of solid black, which I love. There's so much depth to the color and my hair looks like the kind you would find on a hair model in a magazine. My hair grows at a moderate amount, so in two years, I'll be sure to go back to April so she can work her magic again! The reason I gave 4 stars though, is because it was a little pricey. For color and blowdry I paid about $143, which again is typical, but that was also after the 10% discount I got from a coupon that I had. I just got a fabulous haircut from Lauren at Salon Haven! I went in with hair that was way too long and told her to give me a style that would work well for my hair and my face, and she nailed it! She took the time to make a few adjustments once she saw how my hair reacted to the new length, and she showed me the tricks for blowing it dry right when I did it myself. The salon is small and cozy but at the same time modern and beautiful. Lauren is high energy and adorable, and the other staff are very friendly and sweet.
