Tip: The gravy is awesome. It's worth getting it for an additional charge for your fries. I passed by this Salisbury House countless times on my recent vacation. I drove between Steinbach and Winnipeg almost every day, and loved it. I'm a road trip person and it was enjoyable when traffic moves. This Sal's is located on St. Anne's Road at Fermor Avenue, which is the Trans-Canada Highway. It was easy to pull off the highway and drop by this eatery for lunch before I caught my flight back to Toronto (technically, Mississauga). This Sal's is located in a plaza with a Shell gas station, Dollarama, and FreshCo. I ended up parking behind the Sal's and walking in. I liked that there was a shallow ramp up to the doors for accessibility. The entrance door is on the left, You exit on the left. This Sal's is the most well-oiled machine that I've ever been to. A man seated everyone. Another woman made sure that each table and booth was clean. Servers worked like clockwork. Wow! Kristen, who would end up being my server, indicated that my booth was just wiped down. Both seats were wet. I asked if I could get some paper towel to wipe one of the seats down. She got me some. I dried my side of the booth and then sat down. Looking back, should a customer actually do this work? I frankly didn't mind helping out because I just wanted to sit down without the seat being damp. I don't know if she simply was tired and was more concerned warning me. I basically offered to dry off one side. Anyway, I love dropping by Sal's. I can rely on consistent, yummy food. It's a Winnipeg staple. This location is open 24 hours a day. I have my usual meal that I get at any Sal's: - Diet Pepsi - Bacon mushroom swiss nip platter, with fries and coleslaw, and pickles I got gravy for my fries. It was extra. It's worth getting gravy for your fries. It didn't take long for my meal to get to me. The wait allowed me to upload photos to Yelp. My Diet Pepsi hit the spot on a hot summery day. It was cold, fizzy, and refreshing. I got a refill midway eating my meal. The bacon mushroom swiss nip was excellent. A nip is a burger. The patty was delicious with the bacon, melted swiss cheese, and sliced mushrooms. It has everything that I love about a burger. The bun was soft and yummy. The platter came with a few sliced pickles and coleslaw. I loved the crunch and contrast that both of them added to my meal. It came with fries. I got a lot of them. The rich beef gravy was delightful with the fries. So good! I couldn't fit dessert in. I got the bill and settled it at the table. I used my credit card to tip and tap the payment machine. Done! I used the washroom before I ran a couple of final errands around Winnipeg before my flight. The stall that I used in the women's washroom was clean. No complaints. I was at the location on Portage and Parkdale today at approx. 4 PM. I ordered the Mr Big Nip Patter. When it arrived at my table the burger was disgusting. Inside it was filled with onions and lettuce. No Sal's sauce, no tomatoes. It was not hot either. II am sure it was a leftover burger because the meat was stuck to the bottom bun. I sent it back. The server came back and said that they had run out of tomatoes. That should have been told to me up front. Then they had the nerve to charge me for the fries. My check # is 802045, table 7, time 3:35 PM. I will never be back. The service was also horrible and the restaurant was not busy. Staff were too busy talking to each other. read more

This place is honestly underrated - simple food executed well and very peaceful environment! The mains are pretty average but the desserts are a must try, specifically the cinnamon buns! I was shown my seat and it was right next to prep area/ordering booth. Numerous waitresses walked past me, none of them acknowledged me. I witnessed three waitresses chatting behind the service counter and wondered if one was my server. People native to Winnipeg know of this 24 Hour restaurant as "Sal's". I am often asked "is there such a thing as CANADIAN cuisine?" I view Salisbury House as something that falls into that genre. The restaurant was named after the dish, Salisbury steak. The signature item here are the burgers called "Nips" (as in 'nips' of a Salisbury steak). Make sure to order without onions if that is your taste as the nips are topped with a mess of fried, caramelized onions. There is a 'special sauce' on the Nips and it tastes delicious with fries. The blueberry pancakes are also great, as are the pies, red velvet cake and coffee. The ambience is similar to a fast food restaurant. I have had servers at this location that fall on either ends of the grumpy/cheerful spectrum. I enjoy both. Went in for dine-in today with my roommate. I showed my card - all good. However my roommate was refused entry with his Manitoba COVID Immunization transcript. He is not eligible for an immunization card with current rules, and the employees refused to examine the transcript which matched his name, and drivers license. Apparently being fully vaccinated is still not good enough. As of today, this is what it says as "Proof Of Immunization" on the Manitoba Governments website : The following documents are considered valid proof of immunization in Manitoba: - an official document issued by a Canadian province or territory containing information of a person's COVID-19 vaccination history Way to go guys - first time introducing your restaurant to my friend and you guys blew it. read more

Just have to give a kudos to the awesome service we received from our server today! I think her name was Sylvia. I met with two of my girlfriends for a late lunch today, and brought my 2 year old daughter along. I was happily surprised by the fast arrival of our food and service. Usually Sals is just a quick in and out diner experience but today I feel like Sylvia went above and beyond, from the small things like asking about our days and our kids, to paying special attention to my daughter. I was there shortly after 1pm, it was quite busy and there was a section of tables that was closed. Several tables were available but not cleared. Although its "Seat yourself", I had to ask a waitress and she said to pick a table and then they would clear it. I ordered a coffee which came promptly. My usual order at a diner is eggs, toast and hashbrowns. This usually come with meat, though and I am a vegetarian. So I was pleased they had an option of exactly what I like without the bacon or sausage. I also inquired about the soup, and the waitress said she would check to see if it had beef broth. It did not, so she brought me a cup right away. The soup, Tomato and Rice, tasted quite good. It was not warm though. I was pretty hungry so I ate it anyway and when she returned and asked how it was, I told her. The hashbrowns on the other hand were piping hot and crispy on the outside. Cozy little diner on St Anne's road, a local legend. The company has been slingin hash for 75+ years. I ordered the Salisbury steak and the GF got the veggie nip (which in an inexplicable decision is what they call burgers) Salsibury steak was pretty tasty for diner fare and the veggie burger didn't look very good but the GF seemed to think it was fairly tasty. Nothing about this spot is mind blowing but a solid breakfast spot for sure. read more

This is my favorite Sal's in the whole city! The waitresses there are amazing and friendly. They always let me substitute tomato slices for my toast as I never eat it (and the only reason I know this is because they told me!). They have the best breakfast anywhere, and best price if you go for the special in the morning! There Cheese Nip platter is also great! read more

Good food. Decent prices, lots of seating, clean and fast service during the week. On weekends it's packed for breakfast, service is considerably slower and the tables are slow to be cleaned. We only come during the week :) read more
