The South Salinas Ace is a pleasant surprise from all the other hardware stores in town. It's a pleasure to walk down a aisle with out tripping, it's nice to be acknowledged by at least a smile and most of the time "can we help you." This Ace is neat and well stocked. I needed a new Weber gas grill. I found on line, that Ace was having a sale on it, plus they would assemble it and deliver it for free!! I went down, was helped by a personable young man. He assured me yes, they would assemble it and deliver it for free. A week later, I had my Weber delivered by the manager, Roger Deese, and the young man who put it together. I was totally blown away when I handed the young man a tip and he said, "Oh no mam we don't accept tips." Roger Deese backed him up-no tips! What a bargain!! Yvonne came up to me and asked if she could help me find anything, and after I explained my situation, she asked to come take a look at the car, having worked as a mechanic for years. She immediately recognized the missing part I needed (sold at Ace) and helped me install it, fixing my issue! I was so stressed when I came into the store because I had such a long drive ahead of me, but Yvonne saved the day and truly went above and beyond to help me out. This afternoon I brought an old, 70's guitar effects pedal into the Salinas Ace; it was missing the four small screws that hold the thing together. First one, then TWO employees searched until a good fit could be found. I must say, this beats the heck out of going to a ...larger home improvement store, where being largely ignored or treated with indifference is the norm. ACE is just up the street from me.. Easy to get there, but i will change that now. I went in today to get a couple of things. I was wearing my mask. Apparently it wasn't good enough for this snot nosed, jerk-like kid who told me I needed to pull it up to the top of my nose. (My nose was covered). I just shook my head. His attitude was just awful. He stood there refusing to help me till Ipulled it up to my eyes. (Eye roll inserted here) I left his area and went to another. As I was walking half way across the store, I hear him yell, "Mam, I am serious, you have to pull your mask up to the TOP of your nose". I asked him if he was part of the gestapo. Another employee approached and asked if I needed help. I said,"Yes, but i really just want to get away from that jerk". She asked which jerk and I pointed him out. My boyfriend was in there yesterday, he was treated the same by the same kid. OUr mouths and noses WERE covered. Ace just lost a customer in me. I won't go back. read more

This store went downhill fast after recent remodeling. The new layout and rules are ridiculous. They have a huge clothing section where the tools used to be and the tools are all locked up in glass cases. Good luck trying to find someone to open them. I've struck out four of my last five visits there and not going back. It's heartbreaking as I used to love this store. read more

Their Customer Service has been hit and miss . Went in a couple of times to pick up some supplies, no one offered to help me find what I needed. When they first opened on South side their Customer Service was excellent, someone was always reaching out to help you find what you need. Must be under new management. Ace was known for there outstanding service but lately employees just does not want to be bothered. Walmart, and Home Depot was known for that, sad to see Ace Hardware suffer same service. read more

Always amazing to see good reviews posted of places like this. Who writes them, the friends and relatives of the owner? I have been to this Ace location a few times and every time the customer service is poor. They seem to think you have to shop there and have no options. I received a $ 5 coupon in the mail from Ace Rewards and decided to use it. Selected a $ 50 item and when I presented the coupon was told by the clerk (probably the same kid others are complaining about) that their system "was down" and I would have to pay full price. Really? Why not give me the discount and enter the coupon later when the system is up? Gasoline is $ 4.79 a gallon as I write this. Why should I drive to South Main to Ace Hardware when I get to put up with games like this? I won't be back, Lowes and Home Depot have the same stuff for less and you don't have to screw around with coupons and annoying clerks. Shame on you Ace Hardware! read more

I should have reviewed these guys a long time ago. They deserve 6 stars if they were offered. They are so helpful! It's like having a personal shopper every time you go. Experts in paint matching. Experts in plumbing. And they have all of the little nuts, bolts, washers that you can't find anywhere else. Why do the box stores have to be so big? Probably the least trained salespeople I have ever experienced. The location is great and inventory is well stocked, but the personnel leave MUCH to be desired. You can spend a long time in there without anyone asking if you need help. Often when I have asked for help, it gets passed off to another employee who never shows up. Employees don't know their products very well and I have had several experiences where they seem to just make stuff up to try and sell something. One guy told me totally false information which came close to causing a fire at my home if I hadn't paused and in my mind, questioned what he told me to do. read more

I use this store a lot and I have always been happy with the service. The prices are higher because they have more employees to pay in relation to store size. Now they have started locking down tools because of theft. I hope this store does not turn into our local Walmart where everything is locked down. Love coming here when I need to grab stuff for last minute projects. The selection is decent. There has only been one occasion where they didn't have what I needed in stock. The reason i give this store five stars is because the staff are all SUPER friendly! I came in the other week to get a specific oil to lube my typewriter and the guy working was not only helpful in finding me what I needed, he actually looked up a youtube instructional video on which oil to use so that it wouldn't gunk up in the machine. He spent a good 30 minutes helping me pick out everything I needed. Another time I came in and the two things I needed seemed a little overpriced. I checked online for prices at other stores. The guy working price matched all the items for me so I didn't have to drive to Home Depot. These are just a couple examples of the great customer service. I love coming here and can't speak highly enough of the friendly service! More businesses should take note. read more

Definetly the place to go for all your hardware needs! I needed a new battery for my car key as it was only working about 35% of the time. So I called ahead to see about how much it would cost me. The phone was answered immediately with a very helpful and cheerful woman. She informed me that it would only be about five to six dollars. I drove over since I was only down the street. As I walk in I am greeted and welcomed by who I assume is the manager. I believe his name is Johnny, not 100% sure though. I then tell him that I need a new battery for my car key. He calls over a supervisor by the name of David. Johnny informs me that it would be better for David to help me. David finds the battery size that I need and even replaces it for me! If that's not great customer service than I honestly don't know what is. My total was five something and I was only in there for like ten minutes at most. Over all it was a great experience. I felt welcomed, got the help I needed, the employees went the extra mile to make sure I was a happy customer, prices are reasonable and, I was in and out in a timely manner. read more

I had been a regular customer of this store for as long as it's been open. John, Emily, Gus, Ryan and lets not forget Lauren who sadly, works elsewhere now and the other employees are as helpful as they can be, save one! I gave only three stars because of an employee named David. Over many months and many visits I finally figured out David flat didn't like me. Unlike my experience with all of the other employees David was expertly passive aggressive towards me...it took awhile for things to get through my thick skull. At first I thought he was just not talented as a sales person. Over time (many visits over many months) I realized that talent or no talent his negative demeanor was very much directed at me. I avoided him when I could however in the end I stopped patronizing this store entirely............David issues. I mentioned this to my wife who noticed I was not frequenting the South Main Ace anymore. She said I was silly and David got what he wanted. So there it is! read more
