I drove 15 miles to Ace Hardware in Carmel Valley (San Diego) knowing I would find the solution to my problem. I managed break the rod on my rollator walker. The store I bought it from didn't understand the problem and their solution would have been of no help. Also the brochure that came with the walker did not even show the broken part. I live in Southern California and I am known at my Ace Hardware Store in Woodland Hills. I LOVE my Ace Hardware Store; friendly, informative and HELPFUL and EASY. So when we were visiting family in Northern California and my inlaws need, of all things, rat traps I went looking for the nearest Ace Hardware Store at 401 Mid Valley Way. Of course the store was perfect and compared in all ways to my home store in Southern California. EXCEPT this store had something my store does not have. Her name is Vicki and she ran the cash register. CHERRFUL, as she investigated if found everything I needed, POLITE as she was PROFESSIONAL. This employee has wonderful people skills. By the time I left this store this employee made feel as welcome as I do in my neighborhood Ace Hardware Store. Vicki, I hope the owner of the store realizes what an asset you are to his bottom line. Favorite hardware store in Carmel/Monterey. I'm closer to the Ace at the Crossroads but I drive out there because the shop people are so kind, helpful and patient. I needed a key copied, so I ended up here. The Ace is located in a nice little shopping center filled with restaurants and miscellaneous shops. Walking into the store, it was sooo clean and organized, as well as it should be... seeing there was about 15 people working in this little hardware store. To those 15 employees, there was only about 5 customers in the store, so an excessive amount of help.... good, if you're a customer, bad if you're the owner. Walking to the back to get my key copied, I was stopped by 3 employees asking if I needed help. I've never in my life had too much help at a store, but it was greatly appreciated. The store was stocked with everything, from tools to office supplies. The guy that copied my key was eager to help and copied my key in a flash. I will definitely come here more often for home improvement stuff. I know I won't have trouble finding someone to help me. 5 stars for everything! read more

This Hardware store has the best service in The Valley. Well stocked with the most popular items. I have been there many time and have always found what I needed. It doesn't have lumber and some of the bulk irks but still has most items. They will show you the location of the item and take you to the isle and even answer questions. read more

Amy and Candy run a stellar hometown hardware store. The expertise and consideration the staff offers saves me from migraines and saves me money. The staff here is helpful with whatever the matter may be (sometimes it's a recipe or cooking tip from Amy, Candy, Jeremy, Bella and Jake, some days I have needed key cutting, some days I need household decorating advice and accent pieces, some days it has been storage needs, some days the staff offers their creative brain power to invent an alternative solution from what I had thought was a good enough solution and come to find out my idea is not ideal whatsoever~~ this is when they totally save my day!). I cannot say enough about the professionalism and body of knowledge shared by Mark the plumber who works on the second floor. I was given runaround by to outside plumbing agencies and then I went to see Mark and he was able to resolve my garbage disposal plumbing issue and it required a plan b solution. The plan b solution is usually not understood by many seasons plumbers and so you guys have a very very VIP employee on your hands on your staff. read more

They have a great mix of handy things you might need for a project around the house as well as a surprisingly good collection of gift items. Whoever does their buying has a great sense of humor too - the sayings on kitchen towels, napkins, and lovely wood signs are hilarious. The people that run it are very knowledgeable about their store & products and the kids that come into work after school are respectful, courteous, and friendly! Don't waste your time! After two lousy, actually non-existent, curbside service experiences I will never go back. The first time I tried curbside service, they refused so I had to go into the store, then load the items myself, defeating the purpose of curbside service. I cut them some slack. But definitely not this time. I placed an order on the Ace Hardware website then later received an email stating "Your order is ready for pickup!" and "Curbside Pickup: Call (831) 250-5666 when you arrive and a helpful associate will bring out your items". Sounds pretty A-B. Ha! What you get is an argumentative associate demanding "Did you call to see if the order was ready!!!???". Said no, I got an email stating "your order is ready for pickup!" with instructions for curbside pickup to "Call when you arrive". Her answer "You should have called first! Its not ready!" After wasting considerable time trying to get her understand the email, went into store to show her the email, which does not say to call first to see if its ready probably because it already said "Your order is ready for pickup!" Her response "its 2 minutes to closing! Come back tomorrow morning!" So that explains the wasted time arguing about whether the order is ready or not, she wanted to put me off until closing time so she didn't have to do it. Go to Home Depot, Tractor Supply, Lowes, Whole Foods, Target, Best Buy, William Sonoma, Petco, Petsmart, Safeway instead. They all have outstanding curbside service. read more
