Took the family to Monterey for a little get away, but as we were pulling into Carmel, all of my engine lights went off on my car (this has happened recently), and I knew I just needed to disconnect my battery to reset the system. BUT, I didn't have any tools. Hopped on Yelp and found Pacific Grove Hardware and made our way. It's a small hardware store that's packed full of whatever tools/hardware you might need for any home repairs (plumbing, tools, electrical, etc). I was actually surprised how organized everything was for how small the store was. I believe they are a part of Ace Hardware since they asked if I had a rewards number. Staff was great in asking me if I needed help as soon as I walked in, but I found the tool that I needed, they helped me remove the zip tied packaging and I was on my way. The toilet keeps flushing periodically. I suspect the flapper is bad. The folks in the store quickly walked me to the flapper section. Recommend a reasonably priced product. I've been using this store for decades . . . but I continue to get surprised by the vast variety of merchandise that they stock. They always seem to have exactly what I'm looking for! No need to take the drive to the "big box". The other thing I like is that at least one of the staff has had experience doing just about every kind of DIY fix that one can do around the house, and they never make you feel stupid for asking a question. In short, they have almost everything you could need, and they can tell you how to use what they sell. Amazingly, they also do lock work if you bring your lock(s) to them. One important last thing: the staff are not only knowledgeable, they are always helpful, cheerful, and appreciative of your business. This little gem is a local treasure. I had a tricky plumbing problem - needed to connect modern abs pipe to an old rusty cast iron stack with an very odd connection. The owner looked at my picture, walked me around the store and provided me with everything I needed. He knew about adapters and collars I've never seen (I'm not new to plumbing repairs). PG Hardware isn't the least expensive yet when you factor in the expertise, ability and value of the employees - they saved me a ton of time, frustration and money. THANK YOU! read more

Don't know what happened to this store- used to be a great place, now not so much. The store itself is a mess,seems like things are just thrown on the shelves,even before the pandemic they had trouble stocking anything, now it's just sad,things aren't in the right place and trash all over the store.I wouldn't call the employees helpful, if you can actually get one to help you- very high turnover rate and terrible attitudes abound at this location - would give no stars if possible read more

I guess this place has two entries on Yelp--Pacific Grove Hardware and Ace Hardware. I stopped by on a whim last week to see if they had a couple items that I needed. They had both, at reasonable prices. Service was friendly, and I love being able to support a local "mom & pop," as opposed to driving out to Sand City or Seaside and buying from an impersonal big box chain store. Update: late October or early November 2016: They have plenty of staff, and all seem anxious to assist customers. Quite a contrast from the big box hardware stores in Sand City/Seaside. On my last visit I had fast service in getting a key made, and it didn't break the bank. And unlike some locksmith services, the key worked perfectly. read more

I love hardware stores, particularly small old ones like this. We'd wanted to find one to buy another nightlight and a battery to replace one that had died. On our way to Pavel's, we parked on a side street and there on the corner of Forest was the hardware store. We headed first to Pavel's, but it being after noon, they were pretty much sold old, so Alan will come back early tomorrow. We walked back up the block. Outside the hardware store was an enticing display of wheelbarrows and Radio Flyer wagons artfully stacked. At the top of the stack was an adorably tiny Radio Flyer. We walked in and were immediately approached by a friendly man who directed us to the nightlights. We chose one like the one we'd bought yesterday. We'd walked by batteries on the way to the nightlights but Alan had forgotten to bring the battery w/ him. He discussed it w/ the other nice man who rang up the nightlight and said he'd be back w/ the battery in less than an hour. We drove back to the Inn where we're staying, he got the battery and we went back to the hardware store, where he bought a new one. It was a lovely experience and the store was a joy, w/ an array of honest goods and the familiar, homey smell that seems to be a part of stores like this. read more

Friendly service, reasonable prices, and knowledgeable answers when you need them. It's almost impossible to walk out of here without a clerk asking if you need help, and then--the best part of all--THEY HELP YOU. I needed a tool, but no one had one that was sharp. PG Hardware said, we can sharpen it for you (nominal fee). THAT'S the extra level of service that makes them great. The Home Despot lost a sale when I had to return the tool I bought from them because its dull blade could hardly go through warm butter. When I returned it, there was no offer to help on the part of the receiving clerk. The one and only drawback of PG Hardware is that it's small. Come here first and see if they have what you need, but understand that selection is limited, and you may have to go elsewhere to find something unusual. read more

Back in the day before the huge stores where people drive 10 miles to save 5%, we had local hardware stores. You would go there for expertise, knowledge and advice as much or more for the products they sell. PG Hardware is like one of those stores. The guys there know a lot and are happy to share with you what they know. that saves me time and money every time I go there. How can a store that is so small (compared to Orchard or Home Despot) have EVERYTHING I need? They seem to. And they research the items, picking the best stuff, so you don't need to look at 50 brands of glue: just the top 4 or 5. During checkout the only words that came out of the associate were, "are you an ace rewards member?" as she proceeded to scan and toss my items down. Sad but true especially since I'm trying to support a local business. I just returned from my vacation from my home town P.G. class of 73' I;ve been looking for these Monarch Butterflies everywhere I wanted to bring a piece of P.G. back home with me. I saw them on the front of peoples houses, I looked everywhere I happen to walk by the front of the store and there they were, wooden an ceramic I bought both kinds, they were very kind to ask that they could pack them for my trip back here in Miami.
