Cute little gift shop on one of the corners of Carmel. I was just window shopping and they had the cutest window display I had to go in. But they had a sign that said "will be back" so I was about to step away but a nice lady said oh don't worry and let me in. Their selection is adorable. I spotted a comfortable pair of pajamas for my toddler but they did not have his size. The lady even checked the back stock and made pleasant conversation w me, never pushing the sale. That was so nice of her. I asked her to call me when her next shipment came in and she was true to her word and DID! Do u know how many stores I ask please call when so and so comes in and they never follow up. This owner was so nice and followed up and was able to ship the pjs to me. Always fun to discover a new store ... especially when shopping was not even on my agenda. We luckily snagged a parking spot on San Carlos close to our two planned stops: Scheid Tasting Room and Terry's Lounge, our traditional lunch spot. Scheid wasn't open yet so to bide time I popped into Eco. So glad I did. What a delightful shop. So welcoming. A wonderful mix of "green living and natural health" items. Merchandise is displayed beautifully. I always appreciate it when things are not too crowded. Kristi, the owner, was very helpful without being pushy on what to purchase. I was short on time ... we were eager for lunch. I returned after lunch and this time was greeted by another clerk. I believe her name was Melissa? Said she was originally a customer and was now so happy to working at Eco. I made no major purchases. Just some stocking stuffers (shop year round for those), greeting cards, and scarves. I didn't shop at too many places in Carmel, but I spent a few hours inside here! There's truly so many cool things in here that contribute to a more sustainable world that I couldn't decide what NOT to buy. They have fundraisers going all the time too for people who don't get a bag - they give you a chip that you can contribute to a fundraiser bin, which right now is to add water bottle filling stations to some areas in Carmel. The owner is really sweet and seems to really her shop's mission. They have a gorgeous layout and organized displays that really help the customers have a fun interaction with their offerings. I purchased a bamboo cutlery set, a cool lamp as a gift, and some cute baby booties for a friend who's pregnant. They also have a ton of awesome greeting cards, dop kits/bags of all sizes, soaps, essential oils, games and lots more! Eco is an amazing place! They have everything from wooden spoons to towels to essential oils to portable bento boxes. And I don't feel guilty for buying any of it! The owner is incredibly helpful and the customer service from all employees has been excellent. During the pandemic, Eco stayed open for curbside service of healthy cleaning supplies, and as the store is such a part of the Carmel community, it was a service much appreciated. As an added bonus, you get to make friends with Hudson, the tall and furry employee. read more

I placed an online order for some glass pet bowls through Eco Carmel's website. I had been hunting for these for some time, and was thrilled they had them. When they arrived they were so well wrapped that I could tell the shop owners care about their customers and the orders. (I was definitely worried about them making it to my home intact!) There was even a personal note thanking me for my order, and a follow up email to make sure I received the order OK. I always love supporting small businesses and if you are lucky enough to live in the area definitely support this awesome store. Beautiful shop with all eco friendly recycled materials. We were greeted by the handsome Hudson and made sure to give him love and scratches behind the ears. I was looking specifically for something to speak to me to memorialize our anniversary. A beautiful hammered gold crescent moon necklace caught my eye and came home with me. My roommate and I recently bought a house, and although recently painted, we wanted to give the walls some life. I had some colors already picked out when my co-worker told me about Mythic paint, a non-toxic, VOC free paint that this store sells. So I stopped by Eco Carmel one afternoon to check it out. The owner, Kristi, was so incredibly helpful. She spent a significant amount time with me, explaining all about this paint and how it stacks up to other commercial brands. She also taught me about the importance of using primers, which no other sales person had ever done. She can match Mythic paint to any color of any brand, and it also has the highest durability compared to any other paint. I ended up purchasing a gallon of a deep red (which she matched to the Sherwin-Williams color I had already picked out) and a grey primer. I was pleasantly surprised that it was cheaper than what I was about to pay per gallon at Sherwin-Williams. The verdict: There has been some minor construction going on, but we finally got to painting last night. I had been downstairs caulking some new cabinetry and my roommate was upstairs priming. I had a splitting headache from the caulking material fumes, so I had to stop. I went up to help with the painting project, and realized that after about 10 minutes, my headache had completely subsided. After priming, we put up the first coat of red. Both primer and paint had virtually no odor. The color is stunning, and paint quality is superb. Because of Kristi's advice about using grey primer under dark colors, we barely had to use two coats. I will never use any other brand of paint, from any other store, ever again. I briefly looked around at other items in this store while waiting; some things may seem pricey, but I believe that cheap things are made cheaply, and this store is quality all the way. I wish I could support this store more by shopping here regularly, but after buying and renovating a house, we will be sitting on bean bags chairs eating beans out of a can... but at least we will be looking at beautiful walls!! From home essentials, to paint, baby clothing, novel items and even a unique furniture selection--this store should be on every Carmel visitor's list. Kristi Reimers is the original owner and she puts her heart and soul into selling products she believes in. The retail philosophy seems to be, "inform, educate and entice," rather than "push and close." So refreshing for this town--Eco belongs to a select group of iconic stores. And the products are Green and Earth-friendly too! It doesn't get better than that. read more

Though I have been meaning to stop by Eco Carmel since they opened, I never made it over there until I started with a CSA farm that delivers there. I stopped in last week and have already been back twice since then! I have purchased everything from recycled crayons to vegetable-based paints for kids and from reusable plastic sandwich wraps to body butter for myself. The staff is helpful but doesn't hover. And the products are chosen with care. I love everything in this store. read more

Great selection of items from housewares, door mats, stationary, pet items, bedding, CA grown organic cotton items (so rare), paint, art, etc (etc!). The proprietor is really knowledgeable about her products and after speaking with her it turns out she researched everything for a whole year before evening opening the doors, since she didn't want to contribute to the ever-present green-washing out there today (really respect that). Service was helpful but not intrusive. Our well-behaved dog was welcomed inside. We'll definitely come back. If you don't use a bag or bring your own, you can get a token and donate 25 cents to one of three local charities (not a new concept but rarely seen in a store this size). read more
