About a year ago I had a very bad experience with an extremely rude customer service…read morerepresentative. I almost changed banks because I was so disgusted. Recently I had a manager (who wasn't there at the time) named Melissa help me correct an unauthorized charge to my account. I use the Redstone branch because it's in close proximity to my home location. I've heard horror stories of it taking months for people to get their money back. Melissa immediately took action by shutting off my debit card and preparing the paper work for me. She filled out everything. All I had to do was sign it. She even offered to bring it to me personally if I didn't think I would be able to make it to the bank that day. I didn't want her to have to do that so I went in on my lunch break and she had me in and out in 2 minutes. Within 7 days, I had my money back and my new debit card. I already had the pin because Melissa gave it to me before I received the card. She also told me I qualified for power checking which allows me to use other ATM machines and be reimbursed by the bank at the end of the month. This was great! Finally, I moved 2 1/2 years ago. Since then, the bank has made it a nightmare changing my address. Every time I would go into the bank the representative would need a manager override because for some reason my address wouldn't change (I'm fairly certain it was a computer glitch.) Since Melissa has started working here I feel like the customer service has done a 180 and I'm glad I stuck with Salem Five. She's an asset to your team and should be commended!

I was disturbed to see comments on Facebook allegedly made by your loan officer, Jim Picanso,…read moresuggesting that lynching Black people should "come back in style." If these statements are authentic, they are deeply offensive and raise serious concerns about racial bias and discrimination. Does your company condone or agree with these views? If not, what actions are being taken to address them? As a representative of your organization, Mr. Picanso's public comments reflect on your company's reputation and commitment to treating all clients fairly and with respect. Statements of this nature naturally cause people to question whether Black customers and other minority clients can expect equal treatment when seeking loans or financial services. I would appreciate a response regarding your company's position on these comments and any steps being taken to ensure that all customers are treated with dignity, professionalism, and without discrimination.

SMEFCU is a small bank, and yes, sometimes there are some trade-offs with what the larger banks provide for services. However, at the end of the day, SMEFCU doesn't steal your hard-earned money like the large banks by demanding fees for anything and everything. Plus, their customer service has a quaint and genuine hometown quality to it which you won't get very often from large banks who redirect most of their customer service calls to foreign countries so they can exploit desperately poor people by paying them pennies on the dollar while simultaneously depriving Americans of employment opportunities just because they don't want to have to pay a livable wage to anyone. So, don't support the big banks. They don't support you!!! SMEFCU is a great bank. I highly recommend them for all your banking needs!
