Called back as I had to make a transfer and was told it was open. It wasn't. Finally got there and asked about the rate on my money market account. It dropped by 60% since my last statement. Was supposed to be the highest yielding account when I opened it. Teller said they change rates all the time and put me in another account which was still only half of what I can get at another bank. I can get triple what they had me in. Oh yeah, been a customer for a decade plus. Obviously value my business. UNTRUSTWORTHY! Do not bank here. It is costing you money!

Recently I had a manager (who wasn't there at the time) named Melissa help me correct an unauthorized charge to my account. I use the Redstone branch because it's in close proximity to my home location. I've heard horror stories of it taking months for people to get their money back. Melissa immediately took action by shutting off my debit card and preparing the paper work for me. She filled out everything. All I had to do was sign it. She even offered to bring it to me personally if I didn't think I would be able to make it to the bank that day. I didn't want her to have to do that so I went in on my lunch break and she had me in and out in 2 minutes. Within 7 days, I had my money back and my new debit card. I already had the pin because Melissa gave it to me before I received the card. She also told me I qualified for power checking which allows me to use other ATM machines and be reimbursed by the bank at the end of the month. This was great! Finally, I moved 2 1/2 years ago. Since then, the bank has made it a nightmare changing my address. Every time I would go into the bank the representative would need a manager override because for some reason my address wouldn't change (I'm fairly certain it was a computer glitch.) Since Melissa has started working here I feel like the customer service has done a 180 and I'm glad I stuck with Salem Five. She's an asset to your team and should be commended!

They're always ready to help and assist with whatever I need. Their business hours are also awesome as they're open both Saturday and Sunday. I can't recommend Eastern Bank enough, specifically the Melrose branch. If you've been having issues with one of the big national banks you should definitely stop by and inquire about switching accounts.

SMEFCU is a small bank, and yes, sometimes there are some trade-offs with what the larger banks provide for services. However, at the end of the day, SMEFCU doesn't steal your hard-earned money like the large banks by demanding fees for anything and everything. Plus, their customer service has a quaint and genuine hometown quality to it which you won't get very often from large banks who redirect most of their customer service calls to foreign countries so they can exploit desperately poor people by paying them pennies on the dollar while simultaneously depriving Americans of employment opportunities just because they don't want to have to pay a livable wage to anyone.
