Okay, so this is a preliminary review based on my initial visit:…read more After years of half-fast doctor's farms to manage my Crohn's disease, I found myself in suburban ER with bad pain and symptoms. I was in between gastros, and getting pretty hopeless. The ER doc told me if he had to see a gastro, dr Gupta is who hed want. Called the next day and was seen by the end of the week. Right away I felt comfortable. He and a partner work out of a house on old Georgetown. It's not fancy, but you don't feel like you're care is being assembled in a factory! He himself escorted me to his office where we TALKED for 45 minutes. He wanted to know everything, and was nonjudgmental and receptive to opinions and anecdotes. I actually felt like a human collaborator to my treatment!!!! He was very kind. I go in for a colonoscopy tomorrow and am cheered by his use of modern prep methods (seems like if a doctor is willing to try the latest colon prep, he'd probably be willing to try the latest crohns meds!).

Dr. Cohen is the best GI and overall physician I have ever had. She is my 6th or 7th GI physician…read moreover the years and by far the very best. I was very sick in a 2.5 year flare and Dr. Cohen cured me!!! I was told by previous physicians my only solution would be surgery multiple times, but Dr. Cohen did her research and we tried another combination of therapies, that have been working so well! She tried these new combinations of therapies with very close monitoring. She is so smart and experienced but ensures she explains everything in patient friendly terms, very comprehensively, practicing shared decision making as well. Our first appointment we went through my whole medication/disease history to ensure she had all the information- so patient and comprehensive!! She is always very patient with all my questions and concerns, quick with follow up, and extremely comprehensive. She focuses on GI of course, but she also ensures I am update to date on all vaccines and exams (even more so than my pcp :) ), and takes the time to discuss non- GI related medical concerns with me as well. She checks in on mental health and nutrition and provides recommendations and referrals for all specialities. She is truly the best, most comprehensive physician I have ever had and I feel so grateful to be under her care!! Highly highly recommend!!!

She immediately put me at ease. She gave me several openings in which to ask questions and at the end of the visit, she told me to email her if I had any questions before my procedure. I did end up having a question and it was answered promptly. There was also a video as well as several documents offering information concerning the Covid test, the preparation for the procedure and the procedure itself. The followup to make an appointment for the Covid test and procedure went smoothly. The Covid test was administered in her office where I felt very safe--all protocols were followed, there was only one other person in the large waiting room and I only had to wait very briefly. The day of the procedure, the staff and the doctor made me feel comfortable and were all very professional. The center seems very well-run. I was treated with such care and respect. I had great trepidation about having this procedure but Dr. Cohen gave me great confidence every step of the way.

I wanted to reschedule the appointment she made to see if I could be seen even sooner. I called the number for the Chevy Chase location several times throughout the day for a same day appointment. The receptionists were rude, cut me off and seemed inconvenienced. They kept saying they didn't have appointments. I called the number listed for the Silver Spring location and the woman immediately found me a appointment at the Chevy Chase location.... Which was extremely strange. I was already nervous about the appointment, but this interaction had me even more worried. Turns out they use a call center! I had a little bit of trouble finding the office, but it is in the lower level of the building. I was greeted by a SUPER friendly receptionist who was patient and didn't rush me through filling out the initial paperwork. My appointment was with Dr. Singa. He immediately could tell how nervous I was and made an appoint to easy my nerves. He answered all of my questions and explain to me what was happening in layman terms. He seemed genuinely concerned about how I was feeling. I was especially nervous about having a male doctor, but I cannot explain how at ease I felt at the end of the appointment. He walked me to the receptionist to check out and made sure I had an email to contact him at if I had any questions. I told Maria at reception about the horrible experience of making the appointment and she gave me an email to contact the Chevy chase location directly. I would have taken a star off for the call center but that just wouldn't be fair to the Chevy Chade location.

Sometimes you like a doctor, but not his support staff or office environment and vice versa. Our,…read moreyou pick a physician because of their reputation and stay with them even if their bedside manner stinks. None of this is the case with Dr. Shocket at Washington Gastroenterologist in Chevy Chase. He's great and so is his staff. The office is on the top floor of a busy 16 story building, so it can take a bit of time to get to it. But once you get into their space it is peaceful and calm. He also has an office in DC, but I've never been there. I'm sure it's just as lovely. Dr. Shocket is a good listener who engages with comments and questions. I've never felt rushed to get through an appointment. In fact, it's just the opposite. With an issue that is proving hard to diagnose, he is adamant about going over as many possibilities before turning to an uncomfortable, invasive procedure. I mentioned the staff was great. Beltway traffic was crazy today, so I was 20 minutes late. I called to let them know and they were understanding on the phone and upon arrival. I can't stand being late for appointments, and when I was waiting in the exam room he popped in to say that he'd be right in when he was done chatting with someone in his office. I was the one who was late, yet he was letting me know he was a few minutes behind. DOCTORS NEVER DO THAT! One of the services the office provides is blood work done right on the office. You don't even have to leave the exam room. It's so convenient to not too have to go to a lab to get blood drawn. The nurse that did it was quick and very friendly. The front desk staff is very pleasant, too. There are probably 100s of GI doctor's offices I passed by in northern Virginia on my way to Chevy Chase, but with Dr. Shocket's demeanor and reputation, the inconvenient rush-hour trip is worth it.

My initial office visit and consultation was with Dr. Jessica Korman at 10215 Fernwood Road, Bethesda location - was very unsettling, and to make it even worse, she was 1.5 hours late. *Note - this practice does not validate your parking ticket* Then, Dr. Korman rushed through my medical records I'd brought with me, she told me nothing I couldn't have found on WebMD. It seems her sole purpose was to get me scheduled for a colonoscopy and an endoscopy, yet she never once during our 7 minute consultation examined me - not even lifted up my blouse and touched my stomach. So it begs to wonder why she wanted to do an endoscopy to begin with. Needless to say, the appointment I scheduled for the upper and lower procedures - I cancelled as soon as I got home. Maybe the other Doctors in the practice were better - but I was too scared to find out. I decided to go with a GI doc from Johns Hopkins and she was did a complete workup before she scoped me, found the problem in my lower GI and now I'm good as new.
