Predatory fees. I am being charged for a procedure that has never been completed due to the pain I was in. As a healthcare worker myself who understands the charges and diagnostic codes of a clinic, I was able to inquire on the codes and itemized bill only to find out this is simply a false claim. I've paid an unknown amount in hidden fees and charges. They are amazing at reminding you that you have a bill that must be paid otherwise it will reach collections. Yet, when it comes to contacting someone regarding this false claim, suddenly no one has an answer and it has been a year that this has been differed and given to a supervisor for "review". The second I mentioned involving lawyers, my phone calls are no longer being answered. *** Also, Mariano with the billing department was probably the least helpful rep I've ever communicated with. Picking up the phone like he hates the job (no one is forcing you to work there). Then, once I've expressed why I called, he hung up on me. I shortly returned the call 4 times only to either have no answer or to have my call answered then hung up. *** Simply disgusting. 0/5 if I can. read more

**Predatory fess*** I am a new patient, I booked an appointment back in October. During this time my company changed insurance and I had to reschedule given that I didn't have my new Insurance. I was told that was a reasonable explanation and to reschedule with the same doctor. Before my new scheduled appointment I received a charge for canceling, it said a lot about a place I have never been to be already charging you. I needed to visit a GI for the first time and since it was urgent my doctor made an appointment for me at Capital Digestive Care. I wanted to reschedule the appointment she made to see if I could be seen even sooner. I called the number for the Chevy Chase location several times throughout the day for a same day appointment. The receptionists were rude, cut me off and seemed inconvenienced. They kept saying they didn't have appointments. I called the number listed for the Silver Spring location and the woman immediately found me a appointment at the Chevy Chase location.... Which was extremely strange. I was already nervous about the appointment, but this interaction had me even more worried. Turns out they use a call center! I had a little bit of trouble finding the office, but it is in the lower level of the building. I was greeted by a SUPER friendly receptionist who was patient and didn't rush me through filling out the initial paperwork. My appointment was with Dr. Singa. He immediately could tell how nervous I was and made an appoint to easy my nerves. He answered all of my questions and explain to me what was happening in layman terms. He seemed genuinely concerned about how I was feeling. I was especially nervous about having a male doctor, but I cannot explain how at ease I felt at the end of the appointment. He walked me to the receptionist to check out and made sure I had an email to contact him at if I had any questions. I told Maria at reception about the horrible experience of making the appointment and she gave me an email to contact the Chevy chase location directly. I would have taken a star off for the call center but that just wouldn't be fair to the Chevy Chade location. read more

Infusions should not be fun but this staff makes it a very enjoyable experience, ironically. I'm here often and they always great me and make me feel welcome. The nurses are really knowledgeable and able to answer a lot of questions (and sometimes not even just about my IBD) I would also recommend the doctors, specially Dr. Bolen. read more

FIND ANOTHER FACILITY! My Primary Care Physician referred me to the Laurel location but I had to switch locations because my insurance. I am so glad the staff who answered the phone was clueless and not helpful because it helped me to decided NOT to come to this location! When I received my results he was very nice and thorough about my results and treatment plan. If I knew upper endoscopies were this easy I would have done it so much sooner! This review is for Dr. Kathryn Kirk, the very first GI doctor I ever went to. When we went over my symptoms, she literally said "So what?" After years of suffering from GI issues, it took a lot of courage to make this appointment, so it was extremely disheartening to be dismissed so quickly, without a single test ordered. Three years later, I've been diagnosed with Crohn's Disease by another provider. That's three additional years of suffering, without treatment, for a chronic progressive disease. Dr. Kirk was rated a Top Doctor by her peers, so I trusted her. So glad I sought a second opinion. I suggest others seek help elsewhere. read more

Very frustrating and anxiety producing experience with this practice and specifically with the doctor who treated me and who recommended tests. He did not call me back with results of tests, did not share them with the cardiologist and hematologists who were coordinating my case, and did not post results on their portal. I never knew whether my calls disappeared in the ether or whether it was the doctor who didn't call back. Messages through the portal were not responded to at all or in a timely manner. The process took about three months! I attributed much of this to Covid-19 precautions and adjustments of schedule in the office, that is, until I read some of these reviews. In comparison, the offices of the specialists I worked with were organized and responsive. Thank God my tests were negative. I would have found a different doctor and practice if I had required treatment. read more

Worked with Dr. Michael Schwartz for awhile. He was knowledgeable but decided I needed a younger practitioner who wouldn't be so close to retirement. Dr. Koff was worthless about my chronic cough! And while Dr. Kirk was adored by my 20-something nephew and niece, I was not overly impressed. After several appointments and procedures to discern why I had such a bad GERD cough, I was referred by a weight management doctor for a sleep study evaluation. I was diagnosed with severe apnea and once I started using the CPAP, my cough was almost non-existent. That neither Dr. Koff nor Dr. Kirk ever thought to have me evaluated for apnea seems very negligent. Today I tried to make an apt for another issue and was told no appt for 2 months in person or 3 months virtually even though I am a known patient. And because I had another medical appt and couldn't stay on the phone to answer the formalized COVID questions, despite having given the short-hand version of no exposure, no symptoms, and had both vaccines, the guy wouldn't hold my appt. Time for a new gastro doc! read more

I have had two colonscopies and found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeble. The doctor explained the procedure completely and the follow up was extremely helpful. They have an online portal so that you can access your records and update as necessary. I will continue to use their services even though I have moved and it will take 5 hours travel time round trip! read more

Doctor Widerlite is exceptional and his nurses, medical assistants, staff and operations reflect his personal attention to patients and efficient responses. I was a first time patient having been referred by my Internist. I have had IBS for many years. Now I am normal for IBS and taking 1 stomach pill/day instead of 3. Much easier lifestyle...AMAZING!!! Doctor Widerlite spent 45 minutes with me for the initial consultation. He said he learns 95% from talking to patients, the rest from examination and testing. Then he suggested a breath test - one of three or four available to test treatable causes of IBS symptoms. Meanwhile he had me slowly reduce my stomach medication. Then he told me to CALL HIM in 2 weeks to report on my condition after reducing medication - I said call you? He said: Yeah, I return patients calls...and he did. Saves his time and my office visits!!! The scheduler set up the breath test - very efficient process with paper instructions in large type. The testing is set up in a long corridor of small rooms so there is little waiting and medical assistants and nurses are right there. The test showed I had an overgrowth of bacteria. Doctor Widerlite prescribed an antibiotic and his medical assistant, Nancy, was in touch with me and the pharmacy (again personally by phone) to ensure I had the medication ad knew what to do. Again, an amazing person Nancy. I was impressed with the organization - each doctor had a rolling laptop table for patient records. The patient on line records system is easy. The offices are modern and functional with separate spaces/personnel for scheduling, medical, testing, records and signing in/waiting room. The follow up billing was also correct, processed without error through Medicare and TriCare. TIP: There is parking underground at the 5550 Friendship Blvd offices. As other reviewers indicate, this practice has some fine physicians. Where this practice falls short; however, is the operations side. Messages do not get delivered through the portal in a timely fashion (so why have it?). Calls go unreturned, voicemails are left and the recipient denies having received them. Staff are nice, doctors are competent; but, I actually had to take a trip to the ER that was avoidable, due to unreturned calls (no one called me back --- my doctor was on vacation and that is why my messages were unreturned, so the problem grew worse untreated). The staff blamed it on the answering service (but, my calls were during business hours, every day for a week). Recently, I had another similar issue where the recipient denied receiving my message (direct to her extension), then promised a call back from my doctor after 5pm.....that never came, regarding an issue I asked about in the patient portal 5 days earlier! But my bills are always on-time. Sometimes I think a practice grows too large, and when they become a large business entity, I think the responsibility gets diluted among too many people and personal responsibility goes out the window. Don't be overly impressed by high-tech facilities and dozens of physicians...practices like this are usually more convenient for the doctor than the patient. Welcome to 21st Century medicine. Not going to wait for incident #3...have to look elsewhere. Unfortunate, because the doctors here are very good.....but, there are good doctors elsewhere with better office management. Update: Finally received a response from Capital after emailing a VP on the business side of the practice; but by that time a GI specialist at another practice had already returned my call (after only a 2 hour wait) and adjusted my meds to relieve my discomfort. Dr. Widerlite is truly AMAZING! I was having some acid reflex problems and he was so patient, knowledgeable and provided me with quality care! He truly cares about his patients and being just 25 I was so scared but he walked me through everything and made me feel comfortable. If you need a new doctor, look no further! read more

My primary physician recommended this group for a colonoscopy. I scheduled months ago for Dec. 2 weeks ago I was called by them and told that the doctor's 'schedule had changed' and that I would need to reschedule. I asked for another doc and the appointment was then changed by a day. Last week I was called and told that that doc had 'a schedule change' and I would need to reschedule. A colonoscopy is not a regular appointment - you have to organize being off work for over a day and have someone take you and pick you up. This is NOT a normal type of doctors visit appointment. Yet these people do not care one whit about that. I did not reschedule. This place is awful....no one should go there ever. I am telling my primary to never ever recommend them. I should have listened to the reviews. This place is awful. The walls are thin and you can hear the private conversations in the other room. My doctor was extremely behind, over an hour wait. When he came in he was disinterested and eager to use his phone that kept ringing during our conversation. I thought this was very rude. He was supposed to print out recommendations for me and he didn't. I will never go back... this place needs to be shut down. I scheduled an appointment with their Washington Hospital Center location because I live nearby in Bloomingdale neigborhood. I called to confirm my appointment, which I always do with doctors' offices. When I arrived they informed me that it was on their schedule for the following day. I would have chalked this up as my mistake but I confirmed the appointment the week before. Shoddy office management. Now that I see many other poor reviews for this practice on Yelp I'm glad I've switched to Georgetown University Gastroenterology. I saw this practice several years ago and Dr. O'Keefe diagnosed me with IBS and recommended how I could treat it. It worked for many years but now he's retired. Given their Yelp reviews, it's apparent the practice has gone down hill. read more

Dr widerlite is a nice man and good doctor. I came here when my chronic Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms got worse. He made sure there was nothing more serious going on. My primary care physician referred me to this practice for a colonoscopy. I wasn't able to see the doctor he recommended so I was scheduled for Dr. Aamir Ali instead. Although I found the office staff generally pleasant, Dr. Ali is cold and uncommunicative. When I was wheeled into the procedure I heard him on the phone rudely dismissing a patient who had had the temerity to call him with some questions. When I tried to ask questions after my procedure (a polyp was found) he was evasive and seemed like he wanted to bolt from the room. This guy seems totally over his job. Plus it took two weeks for me to get my results. He called me at 6:40 one evening and when I didn't hear my phone (I was in a restaurant) he left a rude message beginning with the words, "You didn't answer your phone. Your biopsy was negative." If you wish to be treated like a human being, I would recommend that you avoid Dr. Ali. read more

Horrible automated phone system, extremely confusing directions. The day I had a consult at 5550 Friendship Blvd, I got an e-mail reminder from the office about another procedure (the one that the consult was for), which was at 5530 Wisconsin Ave in Friendship Heights. Well, that's where I ended up. On top of that, I had trouble finding the building & was late. The front desk, rather than promptly suggesting another appointment or seeing if another doctor was available, just said the appointment was cancelled.... No suggestions or clue on what to do next. read more

I recently had an endoscopy performed here. The doctors at this practice are very well credentialed, accomplished and well regarded. The nurses and receptionists I encountered were professional, the facilities plush. My complaint is that my doctor's focus was on conducting the endoscopy procedure, not on learning all of the relevant information from me in advance of the procedure, which takes time and is presumably not as well compensated as conducting the procedure itself. Prior to the operation, the doctor did little more than exchange pleasantries and review some notes taken by a physician's assistant who had briefly spoken to me about my condition prior to the operation instead of talking the time to speak to me himself about my condition. Had he done so then he may have found out where in my throat I was feeling a lump that was interfering with my swallowing (upper throat) and perhaps he would not have chosen to dilate an area in a different part of my throat (lower throat). Also, at the end of the operation he was unclear as to why I had thought I had acid reflux, but had he asked me about that before the operation, I could have told him that my ENT had told me she thought it was GERD after performing a laryngoscopy. The annoying GERD like symptoms (including my difficulties in swallowing, especially in the morning) probably could not have been solved by an endoscopy. Nonetheless, I would have more confidence that everything that could have been done was done if the procedure had occurred after a carefully conducted consult with the operating doctor, instead of a brief interview with his assistant. read more
