Dr. Chin is an anesthesiologist who is co-director of the GW Pain Management Center. I had a pretty serious back injury a while ago that put me through the ringer of spinal injury treatments - pretty much everything short of surgery! UGH! After months of physical therapy, I was still dealing with quite a bit of pain - so, my orthopedist referred me to Dr. Chin for some additional help.
She sat down with me and reassuringly explained all my other options (okay, to be fair, there weren't very many options - but she definitely made me feel better about things!). I ended up getting three epidural steroid injections (three because that's how many it took to get a good benefit from them), and if you've never had one of these, it is a bit of a scary process - no one likes having long needles right in there with all your spinal nerves, eek!! But Dr. Chin made me feel as comfortable as possible with the process, talking me through everything and making me feel a million times better. I was dealing with this solo, with no close family here to support me. She really held my hand through it, without making me feel stupid for worrying, which was just what I needed! The nurses at the GW outpatient surgery center were equally friendly and reassuring.
The only real downside of her practice is that it is quite slow in the afternoons and often you have to wait in a stuffy room before you get to see her - but she is always cheerful and smiling, despite a long day. Obviously, I hope I won't be seeing her anytime soon, but that's definitely not because of Dr. Chin! read more
