Nonetheless, this trail was indeed beautiful and unpredictable. Woodsy in some parts (great for bird watching), and open in others. You can find covered picnic areas and barbecue grills near the "park" area, making a great little spot for a family birthday party. I can envision the Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol balloons now. There were nice benches throughout, and different exercise stops where you could do pull ups or crunches mid-walk to mix up your workout, which was unique. Since I was flying solo, after walking a couple of miles, I eventually made a u-turn because I wasn't sure where the trail ended (even after looking at the map). I know it's no mall, but a "you are here" star somewhere on the map would have been helpful lol. I wasn't sure where I would end up if I kept walking, or if I would walk too far and end up not making it back to my car before dusk. Confession: I was low key following a guy who had arrived a few minutes before me and looked like he knew where he was going. Surprisingly, there weren't many people to choose from. Not sure if he noticed. Shhh! I enjoyed my refreshing outing and wouldn't mind exploring it further...with a buddy!

There is not a ton of parking nearby but you can park in the neighborhoods or over by the Barbara Bush track before the middle school opens in the mornings. This is also a great destination to view the sunrise or sunset skies and it is colorful with lots of nature. Lots of runners and walkers meet in the area in the mornings to do their daily miles. Bring a flashlight and a buddy if you workout in the earlier hours of the day or towards sunset. But great for families or your furry friends. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Park, Return) Atmosphere - Rio Vista Park is located in Irving's La Villita neighborhood. It's an official Irving Park so it's open to the public. It's a quiet park that sits in between houses in the neighborhood. On pretty days you'll see a pickup game or two of basketball or a family gather at the covered patio on weekends. On the weekends, several cars will be parked alongside the park because it's such a great entrance to Campion Trails. 2 Star. Park - While the entrance to Campion Trails is why most people visit the park; it still has some great features. There are two half court basketball hoops, a playground for young kids, and a covered patio with outdoor grills. Rio Vistra Park also has a long green field surrounded by a sidewalk (great for walking) where football games will spawn in the fall. This is a public park, so all amenities are first come first serve. 2 Stars Will I Return? - Yes. I love Rio Vista Park. I use the entrance to Campion Trails every weekend to ride my bike, and my kids grew up playing on the playground. There are three section-small dog, large dog & water. Be aware though-the small dog area gets a little swampy too when it rains a lot. All three sections are quite large and grassy (not muddy). There are plenty of poop bag stations, trash cans, water fountains and shady areas. The other pets and pet parents have always been wonderful and friendly. We have been to quite a few dog parks in the DFW area since moving here, and this is my favorite by far (and the dogs love it too). Note: To get to the dog park area, turn where the Carrollton Animal Shelter is-the dog park section is on the right just past the shelter.

Apparently people have flocked from there to come to McInnish Park and I'm sad to say, I'm one of those people. McInnish Park doesn't come up right away in searches when you're looking for dog parks so that's why it's a hidden gem. They have a good amount of parking and the standard separate sections for big and small dogs. But wait for.....there's a THIRD section.....ohhhh....ahhhhh.....ohhhhh! The third section is welcome to all pups and features a pond/lake/watering hole for your dogs to swim and play in! I have a six month old pup and while he's been in the water before, really had no idea that he would jump right in. Wrong I was. He could not get enough of the water and sadly I had to pay for it later while attempting to clean him off. The space is nice and heavily shaded so perfect for day time. You have your standard crazy dog people who like to camp out in the small dog section with camping chairs, coolers and cliques so be aware of that. Personally, I would rather socialize with the four legged friends.

Today I took my kids through the trails in the park for the first time in over a decade and was nearly aghast at how much canopy the city has removed. It appears the 2019 creek stabilization project nearly ruined the pristine beauty of this park. I've attached satellite images of the park before and after the stabilization project, and you can see just how much canopy the city removed as part of the renovations. They have replaced what was a beautiful, rugged, meandering set of trails with a nearly straight shot through the park on the north edge, decimating the canopy in the process all for a boring, uninventive gravel path. It seems reasonable to expect that some amount of foliage would have to be cut back as part of the creek stabilization process, but what I'm seeing today seems excessive and like it was a stylistic choice to provide an inoffensive, plain suburban walking path through the park as part of the renovations. That would be fine if it hadn't nearly ruined the rugged, dense foliage that made the original trails and creek area an unheralded gem of Coppell. The good news is Hunterwood Park is undaunted and, despite the neutering, is still a great oasis in Coppell. I do fear for the upcoming additional stabilization efforts, though, and what some middle-management parks department bureaucrat might do to strip this park of its remaining majesty.

This park is really nicely laid out with ample shade, street parking, water fountains, play area--and a mix of both shade and sun! The only thing lacking here--as with many of the area parks--is a restroom or port-a-John. Take care of your "business" before visiting this pretty park and you're all set! Ready to enjoy:)

We decided to venture out one Saturday after being invited to a Salsa/Dance concert here at Beckert Park. The event was entertaining but the big lotus bugs flying around made it hard to enjoy it. After a while of fighting with the big bugs I don't think we'll be coming back here for a whie. The bugs can have it!! UGH!! FYI: If your into Salsa/Music they have it here every Saturday @ 7:00pm in August. BYOB and BYOF along with seating and blankets..

We went here for Salsa night and it was tons of fun. There was a live band playing salsa,…read moremeringue, and cumbia music as people were dancing on the unpaved pathway in front of the stage and all along the park. It was a good atmosphere because families were out there with lounge chairs, blankets, food, and drinks. It's free of admission and you can park in the garage across from the park. I do recommend bringing bug spray because we got bit a few times. It is neat to see that a city will put on a spectacle such as this because the park was completely packed with smiling faces.
