We parked in the wrong lot and had to walk alongside the gym in order to get to the playground and I couldn't believe how beautiful the pathways were with all the trees and the small creek running alongside. Not what I expected from a city park! The playground itself ("Kid Country") is almost fully enclosed and is a sprawling assortment of things to climb up, swing on, and slide down. There is a play area in the toddler section with storefronts to spark pretend play. The ground is bark. There are large trees in the center of the play area that provide shade and make the play structure look more natural than your typical playground. Almost like a tree house. There are benches scattered throughout the play area and a large covered pavilion with multiple picnic tables underneath. The city of Coppell provides free WiFi there and there were multiple moms with laptops out, working, while their kids played. The only big negative is the distance from the playground to the bathroom. I understand that they probably built the bathrooms more toward the center of the park, but the wise choice would have been to also put an additional small restroom right next to the playground. It's too far of a walk for me to feel comfortable sending my younger kids over there alone and it's kind of a bummer to have to wrangle together the entire group every time one kid has to pee. This trip, we drove a different way to get to the waterpark and happened to pass this playground. OMG! Up until now, the Raleigh (NC) playground has been the most EPIC playground we have been to but we think that this one might have just taken FIRST PLACE!! We were absolutely blown away by the sheer size of this playground! There was so much to do!! The play areas were clustered into different types. There was one for little little ones, another for toddlers, other ones for more adventurous kiddos, etc. Some of the climbing structures were quite high. I went up one and admit as an adult was a bit scared being so high. The other concern I had was with some of the "parallel" bar type climbing things... I thought they looked "dangerous" and indeed, one of our kids fell from maybe 10-12 feet and had the wind knocked out of her. She wasn't hurt hurt but it sure scared her (and me.) I loved that the ground cover was either rubberized mats OR turf. The various drinking fountains scattered throughout helped with keeping us hydrated and cooled us off. The one "negative" is actually due to the sheer size of this place. While I was watching one of my kids, the other went to a different play area and my heart stopped for a bit while I searched for her. She was safe but my mind went to a dark place when I couldn't find her right away. This playground does have restrooms! They weren't in the cleanest condition but it was nice to have them. Prepare yourself in advance for the COLD metal seats. Shockingly icey on a hot summer's day. Again, this is such an amazing playground and I am 100% jealous we don't have anything like this in Houston.

My then-7 y/o son was able to climb 8 feet up a structure for its intended use and jump off "on a dare" by other kids and ended up in the ER. I've also assisted with autistic children that elope and get separated due to the multiple exits. There are also multiple places to have a party, first come first served. This also makes things extra crowded. I haven't been there in a while since the heat, but I am hoping they will maintain a good-sized field because independent play (soccer, football, kite flying, etc.) are just as important as playground structures.

Personally, I prefer this kind of open space over a traditional dog park--as long as your pup has excellent recall and listens well. Just a heads-up: Turtle Creek Blvd runs alongside the park and it's a busy street, so keep that in mind. One of my favorite things about this park is how it feels like a little escape from the hustle of the city. Maybe I've been lucky, but's it's never gotten overly busy during my visits. Whether you're walking your dog, taking a quiet stroll, or reading under a tree, it's just a nice vibe. Pro Tip: There is some street parking available, but only on certain sides depending on signage--so double-check before leaving your car. A hidden getaway from the city, Lago de Claire is a 1.3 mile loop with spectacular views of the sunrise and sunset. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars Atmosphere - La Villita is a Spanish themed mixed-use neighborhood. There are apartments, town homes, parks, and single family homes. Right in the middle is Lago de Claire. On a cool, weekday evening or weekend morning, the lake is full of people and energy. You'll find families, runners, walkers, and people of all cultures. 1 Star. Service - The only service here is cell phone service, and it's good. 1 Star. Lake - I love walking around the lake every day. There's a gazebo on the north end of the lake, which is a great gathering/resting spot, and it overlooks the lake. On the east end are the canals, and you'll find several ducks or birds depending on the season. There's also a small square with two dancing statues. This is a very popular space for gathering and is especially busy in the evenings. I love walking around Lago de Claire at different times of days and take photos of the sunrise, sunset, and lake itself. Bonus - if you play Pokémon Go there is a gym here. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. I walk around the lake everyday depending on the time. It's the best part of this hidden neighborhood and a great place to visit. 1 Star.
