Great trail system. Lots of parking available. Goes behind a nice neighborhood and feels safe. You can watch all the planes landing at Dal Love Field. Plenty of benches throughout the trail system

Quiet, paved, and a few benches along the way. The golf course is a good, half-point marker for the trails leading to a picnic pavilion and soccer fields in the north. Unfortunately the south end wasn't part of my adventure. But I'll be back with my bike.

One of our most well-loved local urban trails, the Campion Trail is a wide, paved trail which is more than 13 miles long and passes by at least 6 parks throughout Irving/Valley Ranch/Las Colinas with many possible points of entry including parking lot and street parking options if driving to enter the trail (which we do in order to switch our routes and scenery). I am both impressed and grateful to have such an extensive, beautiful, accessible, and well-planned trail which allows users to escape some of the bustle of the city and surround themselves with the sounds of birds, bees, flowing waters...all that nature can offer. My only wishes for improvements would be more restroom facilities as most of the parks include only drinking fountains and port-a-johns, more trail etiquette signage (ie. "Share the Trail! Be polite, stay to the right. Pass on the left." or lines down the trail indicating two way foot/bike/rollerblade traffic), and more wildflower plantings/monarch waystations.

Awesome bike trail. The trail is really long, we did about 8 miles round trip. The trail is actually even longer, but part of it was blocked off due to flooding. I like how wide the path is. I believe this trail connects several different parks along the way. If you like to bike I would definitely recommend this one. It's not heavily treed, so it would probably be miserable during the summer. It was perfect on a sunny winter day!

Campion is truly one of the best things about the city of Irving. The trail itself stretches out for miles and miles and they will supposedly be done with the entire master plan by 2025. Which will be amazing for those of us who are local and love to stay active! Over the years I've done many a long run while training for marathons and races. What I love the most about it is its easily accessible and for the most part very safe. Neighbors and friends come out and bring their doggies, bikes, rollerblades and you can even have a picnic if you so desire. They've also built a "Paws Colinas" dog park which has been TRULY needed! I think this has really encouraged people to get out and get more active with their furry friends. I've honestly always felt that people in the community didn't take advantage of the beautiful nature that we do have until now. It is nice to see people outdoors, friendly and speaking to one another. Makes my little outdoorsy heart happy. I would say they still have work to do but the improvements I have seen over the last decade are absolutely noticeable. Excellent work, Irving! Keep doing what you are doing. People are taking notice and taking advantage!

Great trail for biking, walking or any fitness activity. Well paved trail with parking in different entry points. Water fountain is available in the Riverside entry point. Families need to be cognizant of runners, bikers and give them the space. I see a lot of them occupying the entire trail and will not move even when they see someone approaching. Some are found playing on the trail with kids. This can be dangerous. Today I saw some families driving their cars on the trail and parked on the grass next to the picnic tables. This is plain rude and against the regulations. It's the local people who make the trail pleasant and fun. Everyone should come together to make Campion Trail awesome.

One of the best trails in North Texas connects a series of parks that are along the Trinity River. Parks include Sam Houston Trails Park TW Richardson Grove Keenan's Crossing Spring Trail Park Bird's Fort Trail Park California Crossing Park At the south end of the north section they have the LB Houston mountain bike trail which is awesome when it's open (not often lately due to the flooding). It has water and wildlife, scenic views of the river, and porta potties at several of the parks. You can fish and you can launch canoes and kayaks.

I walk either the north/Las Colinas or the south Irving Campion Trail every day depending on the weather. I've been doing this for a few years now. I would rate the north trail 5 stars and the southern trail 2 stars. The North Trail: Very well maintained. Several water fountains and porta-pottys along the way. Since the trail north of Sam Houston park was repaired and reopened it is a wonderful trail. Plenty of beautiful wildflowers and wildlife. It IS parallel with the Trinity river so you will see snakes - just be aware! I've seen more beautiful snakes than I can count. Also have seen turtles, squirrels, rabbits, skunks, armadillos, deer, coyotes, possums, bobcats and wild hogs. There is a lot of outdoor exercise equipment located in various locations along the trail. Some of the people are oblivious to trail etiquette and I wish there were signs telling people to keep to the right. The South trail: There is plenty of parking at Mt. Creek Preserve. There is a huge pavilion there along with a cricket field, playground equipment and a nice basketball court. The entrance at the end of Nursery road in Irving is a cornucopia of potholes, patches and pitfalls. Once you get to the parking area the first thing you will notice is the smell of raw sewage. On summer days it is nearly unbearable. There are no water fountains anywhere on the southern trail and there is only one porta-potty that lately has not been maintained very well at all. They removed the lights this year after everything was flooded. If I were to rate the trail going west of the parking area I would give it 5 stars. But going east of the trail is barely above one star. In that direction there is what seems to be never ever ending work on the sewer system. You will nearly pass out from the stench. The trail has been chewed up and diverted in places because of the sewer work. You will also run the risk of being run over by trucks of the sewer workers and by golf carts along the Twin Wells Golf Course which is also under construction. These trucks and carts are always leaving mud and rocks on the trail. Also, on weekends there are three and four wheelers and motorcycles which also leave plenty of mud on the trail. It's too bad this end of the trail is so bad because there are interesting things to see like the "Old Singleton" bridges once used by Bonnie & Clyde. Both the north and south trails do flood but that is to be expected - it's next to a river.

I've been on many paved trails across the US in my travels and this is one of the best maintained and labelled trails I've been on. If you are staying in a hotel around lake Carolyn in Las Colinas/Irving this trail is less than a mile away and is excellent for running, walking, biking, whatever. There are nice accesses to see river views from the south end of the trail (by lake carolyn) and there is even a side trail that is dirt single-track if you want to wander the woods next to the river but still follow the general direction of the campion trail. I would say the only thing that is annoying on this trail is a positive and an annoyance. The trail is marked almost every 1/4mi with a colored star. On longer runs it can get difficult keeping exact track of how far you have run... It would be nice if they had the full mileage marked on the path in 1/2mi or 1mi increments so you could keep track that way. Oh and for the people complaining about pitstop locations... this is one of the best trails for pitstops I've encountered in my travels.

Hi Justin! There are some pull-up/exercise bars in Keenan Crossing Park where the trail meets La Villita Park (you can park at La Villita Park for easiest access).

It definitely keeps you on your toes in a different way. I love how the trail winds through the trees, opens up to peaceful lake views, and gives you just enough difficulty to make the scenery feel earned. I usually start near Murrell Park, and that stretch has some of the prettiest spots. Lots of quiet coves, shaded paths and little pockets where you can stop and just listen to the water. You'll see plenty of wildlife, too. I've run into deer more than once. The trail can get rocky and narrow in places especially with mountain bikers flying through, so staying alert is a must. It will definitely keep you engaged instead of just strolling on autopilot. What I appreciate most is how peaceful the hike feels even when others are out enjoying the trail. North Shore Trail always delivers a sense of calm and connection to nature.

The park itself is in a residential area, across from a large apartment complex and has a playground and plenty of open field to run around. The trail head starts a few hundred feet from the parking lot, at the end of short loop there's a sign for Dorba trail. I didn't see as much signage when I first started so I wasn't sure where I was going. A few minutes in I ran into blue trail signage and things improved. I ended up transferring to red trail and finished on the black trail. I saw an area of the black trail marked "challenge" but I think that was just due to the tree roots above the ground surface. There are separate paths for bikers versus hikers which was nice, and I think this a great trail for beginners (little to no elevation or areas requiring scrambling) who want flat terrain that isn't too challenging. Also, nice for someone looking for something less populated. I only saw one other person while hiking for an hour. A-ok experience, and I'd visit again if in the area.

There are a handful of loops you can try (all with exciting names such as Blue Trail, Red Trail, Yellow Trail). Depending on how creative you get, you can probably stretch the distance out to four miles. Some of the trails meander alongside a serene creek. It's maintained by DORBA, so it's obviously going to be biker friendly. However, these trails weren't overwhelmed with off-road Lance Armstrong wannabes the couple of times I have been out there. Although there isn't a lot of elevation change, there are plenty of twists and turns along the trails for the bikers. Speaking of which, there is a decent looking section that is just for bikers and it has some pretty sick looking dirt hills/ramps, etc. It really did look cool. Hikers should stay OUT of this area! The rest of the park: Limited parking lot, but you can park on the street if necessary (it's usually not crowded here). There's a covered pavilion near the parking lot with a handful of picnic tables, a playground and there are a few benches in the main park area. Enjoy getting outdoors folks!
