Great trail for a bike ride... not to steep and lots of trees to go off road on A few porta potty's it you can't wait and lots of tables to stop and take in the views . Lots of paved and unpaved trails too

    it's a good morning

I have been meaning to check out this particular trail and finally got a chance to over the weekend! Lately I've been more strength focused with my workouts (while still getting runs in with buds/teaching classes at gym)and I have found that running on more rugged/trail terrain really helps activate different muscle groups in my body than just a road run. This trail is mostly comprised of single track sand/dirt trails and are very runnable. There are a few rocky spots but mostly great if you want to get something quick in and get a solid workout in as well. I have trail buddies who love to run these trails during the week and also there is a club of runners (and walkers!) that meet on weekends. They also share their water/electrolytes to folks outside the group which I thought was very kind considering this crazy hot summer we are having! Horseshoe Trail also has their own parking lot or you may choose to park in the surrounding neighborhood and come on over. Either way this is an extremely accessible and convenient trail!! Cannot wait to be back with friends. Lots of bikers in the area so just be aware, but they are very friendly and polite.

Parking area on Hood Ln. Beginning or end? I don't know. The Horseshoe Trail is a short walk down this road.

I think it was Steven Y.'s review, on the "Recent Activity" feed, that caught my eye. I'm into walking these days, and this was relatively close to home. I've been looking for someplace new, hopefully with less noise from traffic. Well I think I found it, but it's still (partially) under water. I cannot believe the lake is still this high. The trail, which should be quite long, is chopped into piece by high water. Here's how my day played out. It was a lot of fun. Great day for a walk. First, the yelp map did not look right, so I did some research. Bad research as it turns out. The City of Grapevine page for the park (http://www.grapevinetexas.gov/facilities.aspx?page=detail&rid=15) gave the address for the park as "2099 Hood Lane." There is a small parking area at that address, with trail access, but there are no amenities. At the Dove address there is more parking, a drinking fountain and bike tools (see photo). I did not know this until later. I started my walk at Hood Lane address, and all that's there is a parking lot, about 100 yards from a trail. I get on the trail, and to the east it is under water and impassable. So I start walking west, along a wide paved trail. I see a sign for a hiking trail pointing into the woods and off the pavement. I follow it. Very nice. Marked path for hikers and mountain bikers. So after a couple miles I end up at Dove Road. Since I popped out of the woods, I (somehow) completely missed the parking lot (it was early, no cars?), the drinking fountain and the bike tools (see photo). What I didn't know is that this was the main parking area. I decide to walk east on Dove to see if I can pick up the trail. I don't. I should have gone west. Heading east, I walk to the Gaylord, turn around, and walk back. I walk on past Hood Lane, which is where I'm parked. I go back to the Dove address and now there is a lot of activity. Now this looks like the right spot, and where we will start next time, when the full trail is open. I never did make it to Oak Grove Park, which was my intended destination. Though thinking back, I'll bet that was the road, and sidewalk, that was blocked with barriers saying "closed." Here are a few URLs which I used for research: Official: http://www.grapevinetexas.gov/Facilities.aspx?Page=detail&RID=15 Better info about the trail: http://www.localhikes.com/Hikes/Horseshoe_Trail_1922.asp Oak Grove Park info: http://www.lake-grapevine.com/oak-grove-park/ Bottom line: Great multi-use area. I plan to walk, and ride, here again.

Well, it's because I have lived in this area for 6 years now and only recently discovered this beautiful course. The trail itself branches into the greater Horseshoe Trail sprawl - it is a little over a mile long and along some beautiful scenery. Here you can see the lake as well as pass through some beautiful wooded areas. The trail has some parking spaces and port-a-potties conveniently located along its route, as well as benches and picnic areas. You can come here and walk, run, or bike as the pathway is very wide and accommodating. This trail is beautifully kept, and I highly recommend adding it to your outdoor fitness course.

Hikers, bikers and nature lovers alike can enjoy the many dirt paths that lead to more paths and picnic areas. On weekend mornings the Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers club (RAW) put out industrial thermoses filled with water and sports drinks at two of the entrances. The trail weaves around Grapevine lake with several benches available for those wanting to take in the view. Every once in a while deer peek their heads out of the foliage making you realize that you are actually in the middle of their habitat. It can be startling if you aren't expecting it.

It definitely keeps you on your toes in a different way. I love how the trail winds through the trees, opens up to peaceful lake views, and gives you just enough difficulty to make the scenery feel earned. I usually start near Murrell Park, and that stretch has some of the prettiest spots. Lots of quiet coves, shaded paths and little pockets where you can stop and just listen to the water. You'll see plenty of wildlife, too. I've run into deer more than once. The trail can get rocky and narrow in places especially with mountain bikers flying through, so staying alert is a must. It will definitely keep you engaged instead of just strolling on autopilot. What I appreciate most is how peaceful the hike feels even when others are out enjoying the trail. North Shore Trail always delivers a sense of calm and connection to nature.

Plus the well maintained trails and good amount of parking along the trails, this is a great spot if you're looking to get into nature without having to go too far. As a hiker, there are a lot of bikers along the path, so don't use headphones or you could get hit. Even when it's crowded with bikers, everyone shares the path well.
