It was my first trek…read moreon these trails, and even though I'm used to climbing mountains when I hike, navigating a hilly terrain full of rocks and tree roots was its own kind of challenge. It definitely keeps you on your toes in a different way. I love how the trail winds through the trees, opens up to peaceful lake views, and gives you just enough difficulty to make the scenery feel earned. I usually start near Murrell Park, and that stretch has some of the prettiest spots. Lots of quiet coves, shaded paths and little pockets where you can stop and just listen to the water. You'll see plenty of wildlife, too. I've run into deer more than once. The trail can get rocky and narrow in places especially with mountain bikers flying through, so staying alert is a must. It will definitely keep you engaged instead of just strolling on autopilot. What I appreciate most is how peaceful the hike feels even when others are out enjoying the trail. North Shore Trail always delivers a sense of calm and connection to nature.

We've done many Girl Scout adventures on this trail and now that the girls are older and no longer Girl Scouts we come here for walks or jogs. Our favorite way to access the trail is by walking but if you're looking for quick access to the lake and trail I suggest parking near Boat House Dr. or one of the gravel lots off of Snakey lane.

SMH BUT when we finally did get there the lady that works the entrance booth (Betty ?) was soooo sweet !! Perfect secluded trail that has little traffic from hikers. There are plenty of loops around, I went straight east and down towards the lake then took a loop trail back to the parking. About 2.5 miles was what I did. A good amount of random bugs flying around a few days after it rained. No contact with anything other then bugs. I would recommend wearing pants of long socks since there is some tall grass overshadowing the trails. There was little trash.(Keep it that way Texas!) Maybe I would go back to walk some other loops.

The nature views are colorful and it is tucked behind a neighborhood that makes you feel as if you are not in DFW anymore. If you enjoy boating they also have a dock area as well as a pavilion to bring your picnic baskets or cooler etc. They have a main entrance where they check you in but it is a free park to the public. There's also a cute marina café and other things to explore. Come enjoy and get your nature on now that the weather is cooling off.
